Searched for this problem but couldn't find anything directly related. Is there an advanced search option on the forum?
I just got a Samsung S2 LTE/Skyrocket on the Rogers network here in Canada and love the phone so far. Only problem is when I have the phone in the car, the Bluetooth connects properly when I fire the car up, but it disconnects after a short period of time (2-4 minutes)...then it may reconnect on its own...then disconnects minutes later.
The car is a 2008 Audi RS4 which is basically the same bluetooth system used on the more popular A4, (2005-2008) so hopefully someone else has some input.
Initial thoughts
1. phone software - Maybe the phone needs a software update - this exact scenario happened on a blackberry I had a few years ago and updating the blackberry's system software fixed the issue. There is no 'firmware update' possible for the car for the record. The phone is running GingerBread 2.3.5
2. bluetooth/sleep/battery saver settings - as I've only had an Android for about 5 minutes, this is likely where I'm missing something. Is there a setting on the phone that puts bluetooth to sleep to save battery power? I've not downloaded any apps to interfere with power management yet etc. so I'm just on OEM settings.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
This is more of a development forum than anything, so most of the folks are running custom ROM's here. But you'll still find knowledgeable folks when it comes to stock ROM.
I would try going to settings and at the bottom of the menu is a software update option. Some folks are getting 2.3.6 rolled out to them so it couldn't hurt to check and see if it's available for you right now.
Otherwise, you might try un-pairing the bluetooth connection, reboot and then try making a new pair?
Good luck.
To OP, sorry I don't have a solution for you. But I gotta tell ya, the bluetooth on this phone is pretty crappy, I'm hoping the ICS will fix a lot of Bluetooth bugs. I have an issue connecting with my Bluetooth Music Reciever (which is plugged into the AUX). I have a 2008 MB C300 and the Bluetooth wors about 95% of the time.
By the way Nice ride. RS4, same engine as the Audi R8.

thanks for nothing guys. this place sucks
just messing. Sorry, I didn't quite grasp that this was the premier developer forum vs. users shooting the **** about their phones. A buddy referred me over here when I told him about the problem.
Yeah, I've heard a few complaints about the bluetooth similar to yours Jamolah. Some guys complain that it only connects once in a while, so 95% of the time is pretty good! Mine connects right away every time which is nice...but the constant disconnect/connect/disconnect routine gets real old, and results in me turning bluetooth off. Unfortunately then you have to turn it on to use it etc.
Anyway, I'll keep trying for a solution to my seemingly unique problem and will see about an update to ICS when its available. Quite a different world, the android world (vs. blackberry or iPhone where everything's so closed and limited and simple).
Thanks for the input guys.
Hi,
if you keep your android running with the navigation app (preventing standby) do you still experience disconnects? If this helps you can try my app "BluetoothKeepalive" from the market, it automatically prevents android standby when being connected via bluetooth.
Regards
...Alex
I am pleased to report that the phone now works flawlessly with my Audi's bluetooth.
The solution? Ice Cream Sandwich / 4.0, the latest operating system available for my phone.
I upgraded the phone to ICS, and it immediately began co-operating with the bluetooth.

I'm looking at buying a new car and I tried playing music through a couple 2010 Toyota non-navigation radios. All the Android music/video players I tried would sound great for the first few seconds and then start a subtle warble/echo that continues until you pause/resume or switch tracks.
I've got an ADP1 currently running Cyanogen 4.2.11.1, but I saw the same problem with 4.2.9 and 1.6 (don't know about all the other various builds). I have several A2DP headsets and they always work fine (no warble).
I believe this Toyota radio is running Symbian OS from what I found on the web; and I'm going to try to see if Toyota has a software upgrade tomorrow. (I doubt it) Toyota does mention that most Bluetooth features are supported for the MyTouch, but doesn't mention A2DP either way. http://toyota.letstalk.com/brands/toyota-bt/home.htm
I'm downloading the whole Cyanogen tree and preparing to build it and then sniff through the code for buffer sizes and other likely suspects.
I just thought I'd pop this on XDA and see if anyone else has seen the same problem and found a solution.
Or does anyone know specifically where to look in the source to adjust buffer sizes and other things that might cause a warble with Bluetooth audio.
You should test before getting the car, ask the dealer if you can test the BT with the car when you get there.
I have been running A2DP on my Sony headunit for some time now. I have never experienced a warble on any of the roms I have used. I do get another issue however and maybe they are related. I can not stream stereo audio over BT to any device it seems, IF I also have my phones wifi enabled. As stated I do not get a warble, I get an audio drop for a few seconds every 30secs or so. This does not seem to happen if the headset is the only part connect, as soon as I connect the A2DP portions it starts up. Disabling wifi is my work around at present.
I have tried A2DP with/without WIFI enabled. No difference; still warbles.
Nothing interesting shows up in logcat.
I run A2DP through my ford focus with the microsoft sync system with no issues. Although the AVCRP does have issues. The control won't work after the phone goes to sleep.
The warble or echo may be due to an active system used to reduce road noise when using the phone hands free via bluetooth. Might check and see if there is a way of turning that off. Some of the foreign cars have active mics placed in the car that might cause this.
try an eclair rom (like manup456's 1.3)
BLUETOOTH IS IMPECCABLE ON THESE ROMS
it will work.
I tried turning off/on the auto volume; no help.
I'm not sure how to check/disable any bluetooth feedback; but it doesn't sound like that.
My friends Blackberry either worked fine (no warble) or was very very jerky (played quarter second, cut out a half second). And split its time about 50/50 between these modes.
I should mention the "warble" is not very pronounced, I can listen to most music without it making me crazy; but it bugs me.
Finally got all the stuff from git; now compiling the kernel.
I will try the compiled kernel tonight and if no luck there I may try the eclair rom mentioned; but I thought Steve's build already had most of the eclair stuff; maybe he is waiting on his experimental branch.
Edit:
oops, looks like a2dp stuff is not in the kernel....
I run A2DP on my kenwood deck. The only issue I experience is if I turn off the car and kill the stereo before killing my BT on my phone, my phone goes into freak out mode. I can't enable or disable BT untill I give a 3 finger salute and it just runs really slow. No warble, actually from CM 4.2.11.1 it sounds pretty damn decent.
I'm still trying to figure out how to compile the code from git; got the kernel and main tree compiled; but not the external apps (like a2dp).
Toyota gave me phone #s for Panasonic and somebody else who make the head units. So I am still pursuing a software update from that end as well. I'll call them next week after the holidays.
I've read thru the liba2dp.c code and have a couple ideas to try if I can figure out how to compile it (haven't really tried that hard, just looking for the official directions so I don't waste hours on something that is already known)
dude your doing too much work just try the eclair rom!!
I was looking for this on all forum and did not find answer. I get second one skyrocket and second blutooth device plantronic voyager pro HD and still have problem as is had with last one. Devices paired with no problem and worked for some one-two days with no problem. After that time sound is scrachy and disconnect from phone, then i can not turn on or off blutooth on phone and also can not find device antill i restart phone. Skayrocket running on rooted stock and I installed CWM on. Did not flash with any rom yet. Any idea what is the problem or this is hardware problem again ( that why i replace last one phone and bluetooth) ???
There's an issue with bluetooth on the skyrocket and the galaxy s2 for some reason. I am running the newest version of seanzscreams ROM and I've had no issues since I updated. My bluetooth would think it was connected but when I made a call I'll have no audio. I would have to reboot my skyrocket and resync my bluetooth. Hopefully they fix it in the ICS release.
so many ppl having bluetooth issue. SO i ma gonna take out my jawbone and see if i can help these ppl out.
I have the Era, Plantronics backbeat 903+, and the Blue Ant Q2 and they all do the same darn thing. It's weird, the phone even shows it's connected. When I press the button on my Era is says how much talk time is left but not connect me to your phone. It is a pain. I wish it would automatically sync to my car when I turn it on and switch off my earpiece. Guess we need to wait for an app or something.
Well my jawbone got connected to phone easily. Made phone call and every thing went smooth so good news for me. Running Ice cream rom.
What I found was that you have to make sure it's set to auto connect if not then you'll have to manually connect it every time in your Bluetooth settings.

Thanks all for answers.. I hope someone will find solution for problem , i also will try to flash some roms to see what is working what not..
I was having a strange problem with bluetooth as well. The audio would become undecipherable sometimes. I found that when I had wifi turned on I could recreate the issue and when I turned it off the issue when away. I've since used tasker to turn off the wifi when initiating a bluetooth connection and haven't had the problem since. Your results may vary, but couldn't hurt to try it out. Hopefully it'll fix your issue.
There is a definitely issue with bluetooth. I use 5 different sets of bluetooth (Bose, Plantronics Voyager Pro, Plantroinics 975, Blueant Q2, Jawbone) and they all seem to have an issue with Skyrocket. Even tho they are paired and connected to the phone, I can't seem to hear anything. Also, sometimes it does not turn on or off. There are times when it won't even connect/pair even though the bluetooth is set on auto connect. I have to reboot in order to get it working correctly. With my Bionic, I never have that issue. This is my 2nd set of Skyrocket and my first one had the same issues.

In "Settings", "Use Power saving mode", there are a number of defaults, one of which is "turn off blutetooth".
If you have powersavings enabled and this ticked off it will drop your BT connection if it's idle for a bit... It also has the same foy wi-fi, gps, and sync, and timeout and response values for brightness and timeout.
Also note that reaching your "low power" threshold set in this area will turn off all of those too.

I'm on my second White Skyrocket and am still having the same bluetooth issue. After connecting with my car, then leaving the car and returning later, I cannot turn BT back on without a reboot. Once it connects, it works well though.
Issue w/Speaker
I've not connected with a bluetooth headset, but I have HORRIBLE audio issues when using my Parrot 2.1 b'tooth speaker.
Rocket connects & keeps connection, but audio drops & is choppy - even when < 4' away.

I did something diffriend on my wifes skayrocket with stock rom and no root totaly clean...
I turn on bloototh on phone and connect to handset, connection is exelent so i never turn off bluetooth on phone and so fare so good for last 2 days.

BT sucks down too much battery life to leave on all the time for me.
That's what we have found to be the issue....everything works unless bt is toggled off then back on
Bt draining battery when not connected does not make much sense...it doesn't scan frequently once on from what I can tell. Would have to run some logs to verify

Try with Wifi turned off and see if that helps
I'm running Sky Ice Cream Snadwich 6.5Z. I seem to have bluetooth issues with my Backbeat 903+ when Wifi is turned on. I just tested it. I hung up the call, turned off Wifi and the audio was much better. I still have to have the in-call volume turned way down though
I will say that the 903+ were kind of crappy when I used them with my iPhone 3GS too though. Again, had to turn the volume all the way down. Its too bad because I really loved the first gen of this headset
I was palying with bluetooth and I notice if i turn off Bluetooth PBAP and Bluetooth Share my connection to handset if perfect. Can somebody explain what are this two thinks and what role they have in phone ?
You can find Bluetooth info here:
(sorry new member... can't post outside links... search wikipedia for "Bluetooth profile")
It will explain what PBAP and all those other services that do not work and cause you grief...
I have a feeling that this issue with this model of phone could be because it is using Bluetooth 3.0, maybe the Bluetooth devices we are trying to connect to are not compatible or struggle with the data transfer rate?
In any case it is super annoying, lets hope the issue gets fixed with ICS. I am trying to use my SGS2 LTE (on Rogers in Canada) with my Bluetooth in my Hyundai Tucson 2010... it rarely connects, and when it does either it cannot download my address book or people cannot hear me.
I read in this thread "set it to connect automatically", I cannot find this setting on the phone, any help?
Thanks,
Marc
Solved - Finally following setup works for me
No ICS Roms worked for me, but following ROM is working perfectly. I have tried for a day and no issue. As soon as I start my car bluetooth connected and BOTH Phone and Media Profiles remain connected. Audio Track information displays perfectly!!
XDA Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1621679
ROM: Skyrocket CM9 RC 2: cm-9.0.0-RC2-skyrocket.zip
Radio: Radio for AT&T and Rogers: Radio_RIL__I727UCLE2.zip
Bluetooth Device: Car Honda CRV 2012
Background:
1) I have two bluetooth devices that I use with my phone. Blueant Q2 bluetooth headset and Bluetooth enabled car audio system in Honda CRV (factory not after market)
Note: This works fine in all GB ROMS
Behavior
1) Bluetooth is different in GB and ICS. Go to Settings => Bluetooth and look at Paired Devices.
- In ICS you will see a Settings wheel next to Device Name. Click on that and you can see "Phone" and "Media" Profiles.
- GB does not have these profiles separate.
See attached image for the state of Phone and Media profiles after I start my car.
2) Bluetooth "Phone" Profile does not auto-connect. "Media" Profile auto connects and works fine. I need to go to Bluetooth => Settings => Click on wheel next to Device Name => Check the checkbox next to "Phone" profile everytime to connect the phone and send-recieve calls using Bluetooth.
3) Steps to duplicate the issue
I see bluetooth icon seeing it connect
Few seconds later I see message "Samsung SGS ..... has been disconnected"
At this time "Media" is connected and "Phone" profile is not. In Honda it shows that Phone is disconnected (even though "Media" is connected and Music plays fine
Finally If I try to connect to Phone via Honda it always fails. But if I open Bluetooth settings and select "Phone" profile it connects and remains connected.
More Information
My guess it that in GB there were no separate "Phone" and "Media" profiles. Phone would just connect to car or headset via BT and stay connected. With ICS the phone is initiating two processes. First Phone profile connects and within few seconds when Media profiles tries to connect. This somehow throws off my Car and my BlueAnt Q2 BT and it drop the BT Phone profile connection

New public methods fetchUuidsWithSdp() and getUuids() let apps determine the features (UUIDs) supported by a remote device. In the case of fetchUuidsWithSdp(), the system performs a service discovery on the remote device to get the UUIDs supported, then broadcasts the result in an ACTION_UUID intent.

I have the EXACT same issues with my 2012 Honda CRV (Non nav). (well, I’m working on this on behalf of a friend, so their car)I hooked it up to another my car with a Pioneer Avic X920bt head unit, and it was doing the same thing. I then did a firmware upgrade and initialization through KIES and now my Avic loads up, but the Honda is doing the same thing still. Although, before I did the wipe the Honda would disconnect and reconnect randomly and it would take forever for the phone profile to connect and it looked like the bluetooth would turn on and off and “freak out”. So far it seems stable, but I have yet to have much time with it.

I have a Galaxy Nexus with 4.0.4 that worked perfectly fine. Both profiles reconnect upon turning a car on and off. I wonder if Honda is detecting the kind of phone and sending the way to connect based on that and not by what OS version it is. Just a complete guess. Also, I tried with a T mobile Galaxy S II and the same thing occurs on it's ICS update.

Sorry, T-mobile Galaxy S II does same thing as the Skyrocket. Yup, same thing..honda says connection failed when trying to connect through the car. I sent Honda an email and all I got was a generic responce about turning your wifi off and repairing.
Same behavior with Infiniti G37S
I have the same behavior of my AT&T Skyrocket with SKY-ICS 4.2F6-2.1 and 2011 Infiniti G37S. It is driving me nuts that I have to manually reconnect Bluetooth every time. Furthermore, it tends to disconnect Bluetooth randomly and I have to reconnect it again.

It would be great if one of the dev can find a way to install GB Bluetooth files on ICS. GB worked perfectly for me.

I have more confidence in our dev's fixing this or finding a work around. It might be as easy as replacing ICS BT libraries with GB ones. However I am unable to get their attention.
I have the same issue but with a Dice Mediabridge installed in my BMW. Works for about 10 min then drops, will reconnect with a reboot. My Jawbone Icon stays connected and works fine, but that just had a recent firmware update. I hope this is resolved soon.
Finally a ICS Rom that works for me - see OP
So, what is so different in that ROM? How can the 'fix' from that ROM be applied onto other ROMs?

BUMP: Still have issue
The last poster says issue comes back even running ROM. I have been dealing with this most annoying issue and still have it. I noticed when i uninstall Pandora app, its goes away. Seems to be a bug in the bluetooth stack and Pandora. Were you guys running Pandora at the time? Seems weird this thread just died with no resolution. Anybody care to explain to me what the fix is if any? does this problem follow the Galaxy S4? I am using an LG HBS-700 earpiece but it did the same thing on my Plantronics. is there a Jellybean available for this version? if so, ATT has not released it for over the air. Thanks.

Thanks for your suggestion, it was actually helpful but as far as the comment about the age of thread.. if someone is suffering from the exact problem i dont think it matters much.
So, I wanted to let anyone else struggling with this bluetooth issue what worked for me. I downloaded and installed Samsung KIES software on my PC as suggested above, performed a full backup of phone and made sure it was fully charged. Now, there will be an upgrade to JellyBean from within KIES. UPGRADE! after upgrade perform a restore and most all your stuff comes back.
** A few of my games/apps installed on my SD Card kept uninstalling itself. this is a bug in JB. Go to Settings, APPS, and move the app to your phone memory and that fixes it. **
Other than that, i have been running the update for a couple of weeks without all the annoying bluetooth issues and its like having a new phone!!! LOVE THE UPDATE.
Only issue is i have more battery drain than before. i have read that installing Jellybean clean install fixed that but will have to research how to do that. Good luck.. hope this helps someone else.
P.S. this is update is NOT available over the air, so dont look for it from your phone. only the KIES software gets you this update.
Hi Folks,
Anyone had any similar problems? When my Z5 is connected to my VW Golf it constantly disconnects and reconnects, tried rebooting the phone, un-pairing and re-pairing still no joy
Just wondered if it was a bug sony needed to be aware, it's as if it's a power save feature that turns it off and on?
Cheers in advance.
Mine stays connected to my van fine
I use one of these in my car -> http://www.amazon.com/SoundBot-Bluetooth-Hands-Free-Wireless-Streaming/dp/B00RH29CJO
No problem so far, it stays connected
I´we got the same problem with my Z5 and Pebble Time
I also have bluetooth streaming issues. Connections initiated by the phone seem to work fine. Those initiated by the car do not. Have zero issues with a Nexus 5. I believe the issue may be related to the "Throw" service.
My Z5 only connects to my Nissan Qashqai 50% of the time. My previous HTC M8 would connect every single time, but Z5 has to have bluetooth turned on/off to work with the car. It's incredibly annoying and I hope it can be improved with software
Sony will probably have to fix it in next update...
I have the same issue with a garmin watch but only since the update I had yesterday, same with the car stereo again since yesterday

I have a 2014 mini and the Bluetooth doesn't have any connectivity issues, but I definitely have bugs with music skipping, especially if I have maps open or something. Better than the initial 5.0 Bluetooth bugs but still really annoying. Probably my main gripe with this phone so far other than the fingerprint scanner
I have exactly the same issue as the OP with my garmin watch it connects then disconnects every 5min or so, whats weird is if i unpair and repair the connection is good for about 3hrs then starts playing up...
I also have a nexus 6 which i've tested with lollipop 5.1.1 and marshmallow and it works perfectly, my HTC M8 i used to have did exactly the same issue's as this sony, its got something to do with the trusted device settings i think the nexus doesn't ever ask about trusted devices both the HTC and this Sony do so it can't be just coincidence...
Is there anyway to disable the trusted setup on the device ? Garmin are saying to connect via there garmin connect app and don't actually connect with the phones bluetooth directly, i've tried that still doesn't work properly... frustrating...
I also have the same problem in my BMW.
Additionally, when I start call using built-in handsfree it suddenly switches to the phone's speaker then after 10 second back to handsfree.
Hope Sony fix this soon.
Does anyone know if its possible to install a apk or whatever it needs to be so that you get rid of whatever modifications sony have done to the bluetooth process the only reason i ask is i know through my nexus 6 that the bluetooth works perfect from google so replacing the Sony setup with the pure google setup should cure the bluetooth issue's or if there is anyway to disable the trusted devices issue that i'm sure is causing my bluetooth problems this is annoying me enough to consider getting rid of this phone... Excuse me ignorance i'm not clever enough to understand if this is an impossible task...
Don't know if this will work for others but last night i unpaired everything bluetooth on my phone switched the bluetooth off restarted my phone switched the bluetooth on and re-paired and now the 2 things i had issue with are working flawlessly since about 6pm last night... ???

Similar issue with pebble time, every so often it disconnects. My only doubt is which of the two is failing the pebble or the phone.
No problem with car in-calls or audio bluetooth.
I have a Z5 and I have pretty much the same issue with a 2010 Jag XF, phone connects via BT for a differing period of time then disconnects, sometimes reconnecting sometime not.
I've not had this happen during a call, and not with other Sony Xperia Z's I've owned.
Also I don't appear to have this with other items connected Via BT.
'I aslo have problems with the BT. The z5 will pair with my garmin edge 520, after that it can't find it no more and can't connect.
With my Stereo amplifyer, NAD D3020 it can connect as it does not require pairing but the connection is poor and i get alot of artifacts when i play music over it.
For the Edge 520 it stops everytime it ask for Trusted device.
My phone is in for warrenty repair, Was for a cracked rear glass, but i told them about the problems with the BT too. The phone is on it's way back now. Hope this will fix the issue. If the BT don't work, the Z5 won't be usefull for what i want to do with it.
I know with my garmin, garmin told me not to connect with the phone directly just the connect app, weirdly my watch has been working perfect for about 3 days and now this afternoon is playing up again I've installed nothing new or changed any settings baffling
Sent from my Sony Z5 ooossshhhh
Similar problem here with my Android Wear and my Cartio Strip. Continuosly disconnect, B icon on status bar disappear, then re-appear after 1 - 2 min.
Someone known how to disable throw?
Thanks
Hi All,
I'm having trouble with Bluetooth on my v10. I've looked through the forums but haven't seen any people with an issue quite like mine.
My car is a Hyundai and the radio was updated to the latest software about 6 months ago. The phone will pair fine and works perfectly for phone calls but I can't get it to play audio over bluetooth. In the bluetooth menu the "Media Option" check box is not visible at all. The particularly weird part is that while the audio still comes out of the phone the rest of the bluetooth features will work, I can change the song with the radio controls and the Artist/Title are displayed on the radio.
It works great with my soundbar, alarm clock, portable speaker, and my moms Dodge truck. That would lead me to believe it's the car however I never had any issues with my gs5 for a year and a half. I tried it with two different iphones and my roommates G4 and all of them worked perfectly.
My phone is an h900 on 5.1.1 rooted(had the same issue before root).
I'm at a loss here. Any ideas? Thanks.
I have a bug report w/ google on this. Please take a look and chime in to get them to fix this. https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=221322&thanks=221322&ts=1472583426
Im going to guess you have a 2011 to 2013 hyundai right? Probably with navi?
So google is blaming samsung of course so I have an email into them. Their chat was useless.
Your device is using Samsung's heavily customised version of Android which this website has no visibility of so cannot support. You need to speak to Samsung for user support and issues with their devices and their software. Thanks.
