Screen shows remnants of previous screens - T-Mobile LG G5 Questions & Answers

Noticed this maybe a couple weeks ago. Ill see lines and letters whatever from previous screens mostly visible over darker areas of the screen. Anyone know what this is about? Not sure I've ever had this problem before with a phone. Maybe one with a dying damaged screen but this phone is almost new. Oh btw can't believe they're selling it now for $400 almost $300 less than what I bought it for almost two months ago.

Replacement screen?

My Nexus One took quite a nasty spill last year. At first I could see lines under the screen and didn't think much of it, but as the day when on the pixels started to bleed more and more until the whole thing went black.
After that I got a Galaxy S phone and am still using that as my primary. However, I've gotten the sudden urge to resurect my Nexus.
Anybody know where I can get a decently priced quality replacement screen? Any guides on replacing it? I think I can figure it out on my own but a guide never hurts
I used www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus-One-Teardown/1654/1 successfully today. Replaced digitizer so it will be 99% the same. Not sure about screen though
Replacing the screen isn't much different than replacing the digitizer. There are also multi-part video tutorials on youtube on how to do it.
Just make sure that you get the right type of screen. There were two types of screens for our phones. The SLCD and the AMOLED. Google can help you determine what type of screen you have in your phone. And ebay is a good place to find new screens.
I have broken my screen on year ago. I have bought a new screen in japan. And change it by myself. One hour to disassemble my n1 and one more to reassemble it.
I can retrieve the shop if you want.

Yellow spots on display.

Hi.
I have a yellow spot on the display. It seems to be the same like many people had it on the HTC One X. I had it too, on the One X.
I read, it was something with some glue in the display.
Cheers
factory warranty covers it so bring it back and if its whitin 28 days of purchase, demand a new sealed box as consumer right entitles you on.
That looks like a manufacturer defect right there. Get it exchanged ASAP.
Display Issues
Forgive me, but what's wrong with These Displays These days? Or am I doing something wrong?
I've been having Trouble with spots on Displays for years.
When it came out I bought a HTC One X. After a month there appeared a yellow spot on the left edge. I brought it back, waitet for 1,5 months and then became back my device with a replaced Screen and battery.
After another month i got again a yellow line... It was always the same, at first there is a slightly yellow line on the left or right edge, after a while it gets darker and darker and turns violet/Brown.
I returned my htc one x 3 times, after the 4th attempt to repair i became the Money back.
After that i bought a HTC One X Plus. Same Story! I returned it 3 times for the same Screen issues, in the end after another year struggling I became again the Money back.
Then i bought a Xperia Z2: Believe it or not, again same pain 3 attempts to repair and then Money back.
The good Thing is, I always got the Money back. But i buy a device for using and working with it, not for having this Trouble.
In december 2014 i bought a Xperia Z3. Yesterday I noticed a yellow line on the left edge ...
In the meanwhile i bought a Surface Pro 2 also... and had the same Trouble, I had to send it in because of yellow lines ("just" one time, for now...)
What is going wrong here?
Its probably the glue, I guess you are just very unlucky. I went through two One Xs and luckily no yellow spots, in fact I have never gotten any device with that. Just get a warranty replacement, nothing else you can do. Its pretty bad on your phone, I believe its UV cured glue.

Bad luck, dude
It seems that yellow spots do happen in some of the phones manufactured in a certain period of time and cause mainly by the OCA(Optical Clear Adhesive) glue between the glass and digitizer
Thanks for your replies, i'm gonna return the phonre for repair again.
Could this Problem be connected with heat issues? All the Devices ( well, except maybe the xperia z3) could get very hot.
Yeah that can also cause that, do you live in a very hot area? I went to med school in a place where it commonly reached 45C/113F+ in the summer and I still never got this issue with my LG Optimus 2X, HTC One X and HTC Butterfly
Well no, it's not that warm here, it barely gets to 30C in Summer, and I got the issues also in winter... But my htc's and the z2 were itself good heaters
Did you solve this issue ? Did you need to replace screen ?

Yeah, unfortunately I had to replace the screen.
Actually they replaced the screen 3 times and after that (and after quite a bit of fight ) I returned the phone to the seller.
I seem to have some kind of bad luck in that regard, here is my statistic for the past few years:
Yellow spots on HTC One X -> screen replaced 3 times
Yellow spots on HTC One X + -> screen replaced 3 times
Yellow spots on Sony Xperia Z2 -> screen replaced 3 times
Yellow spots on Sony Xperia Z3 -> screen replaced 3 times
Yellow spots on Microsoft Surface Pro 2 -> screen replaced 1 time, it's yellow again and has to be replaced but I need it for work
And now:
Yellow spots on Microsoft Lumia 1520, have to send it in
I thought that I do something wrong (although I never had these Issues before HTC One X), then a few weeks ago I went to an electronics reseller to take a look at an exposed Surface Pro 3 and saw that picture... Look at that the yellow line on the left edge :silly:
You're very very unlucky mate....
3 different retailers and 5 different devices, with similar/same problems? There's something wrong happening there..

Screen Discolouration

My Z3 has just started showing a spot of discolouration at the top left of the screen, right by the charge port.
A phone repair guy told me that this is caused by overheating, does anyone else have experience with this? The place I purchased the phone from told me over the phone they wouldn't replace this under warranty due to my neglect putting too much pressure on the screen at that point, are they kidding me!!!
See attached photo
I had a similar issue but my phone had that color all over the edges and they did replace it under warranty. But mind you the screen they replace it with is not the original sony display. It looks and works OK but i dont think its the original one. Also I doubt the gorilla glass quality after replacement.
Interesting I was just about to post same issue, I have this green discolouration around all the edges of my phone as the pic attached shows, thought my eyes were seeing things, but it has definitely has gotten worse over the last few weeks, it easily seen on greys or white background.
Same like mine problem...

I've got the same issue on mine, but rather worse and mine is nearly a year old. Had no issues up until about a month ago an then a small bit of discolouration, then there was a second spot and then eventually it became what it is now it's been gradually getting worse and worse.

Maybe you push you power button too hard, lol.
It was also interesting to note that the Z2 had the exact same issue reported and displayed

Quality Control issues with the screen - Be warned

I ordered the G7 from T-Mobile pretty much as soon as I could. I received it 2 days later. From the second I turned on the screen, I could clearly see a huge spot of LCD bleed to the right of the charging port. It was only really visible on white/off-white backgrounds, but it was plain as day and unacceptable for a $750 device.
I called T-Mobile within a day to try and swap it out. Long story short, it would involve sending it back, waiting for them to confirm, then sending me a replacement. I didn't want to deal with any of that, so I just returned it. Fun fact: The original tech on the phone wanted me to run a diagnostic and reboot the phone to troubleshoot (LOL!).
Anyway, I went to a local T-Mobile store and found another display model with the EXACT SAME LIGHT BLEED ISSUE and in the same spot. I pointed it out to the rep and he was surprised. So, what I originally thought was bad luck may, in fact, be a more widespread issue. That, or I just happened to find the only two LG G7 devices with this particular issue.
We all know that LCD panels have light bleed issues of varying amounts (the one notable exception being iPhones). But this was still disappointing, especially on new screen tech from LG. I just want people to be informed before buying. I loved the phone otherwise, although the taller, thinner form factor was a little odd. I prefer the V30's form factor.
Attached are photos of my unit. You can clearly see the blinding white spot shining up like a spotlight from the bottom. If you're buying this phone, good luck. I did see a Pink unit at T-Mobile without this issue. Both units that had it were Silver, for what it's worth.
yea, my wife had this issue in the same spot on her red edition. i easily found others online with the same issue in the same spot.
LG has quality control issues. the screen on the v30 was so bad that i ended up returning it.
my g7 has no such issues and i have been pleasantly surprised with my experience on it thus far.
if you can get a good, unaffected model you will probably be happy with it.
Unfortunate that many people are experiencing this. My 2 phones that arrived seem flawless to me so far.
What do you guys think?
There's already a post on this

You definitely have it in the same spot, though to a lesser degree than I had. It's your call, but I think that's unacceptable given the price. Since it only really rears its ugly head on white backgrounds, some people may find they can live with it.
please remove
Lol. Man I didn't even notice that issue. But I can see the same bleeding in the exact same area. I'm on JOD so I might just keep it since I'll jump to the note 9 in 3 or 4 months.

I ordered two via the BOGO sale, both Rose color and the screens are flawless
Major backlight bleed through the LCD screen right out of the box. Apparently its a common issue. Went back to Sprint to swap it only to find that the would have been replacement had the same issue. Opened up two more new G7s with the manager only to find the same problem. LG fell through on this one. Id suggest looking elsewhere as of now. Unless you dont mind the visual nuisance
I picked up a Verizon G7 from Best Buy 2 days ago and I have no screen issues. My is performing just fine with no light bleed.
Got mine in store from Tmo. Have had no issues with mine so far. Try not to read too much into this. Samsung has had screen issues with about every model they've released since the S6.
Verizon edition here and it's perfect. We've sold probably 50 out of my Verizon store also and not a single issue
How do we test our screen for bleed?
I used this test page http://www.lightbleedtest.com/ at 100% brightness in a pitch black bathroom. Is this the proper way?
Flawless here also, T Mobile version.

In the case of the G7, a white background seems to bring the bleed out the most. Open a white image or the settings menu and check the bottom edge. It appears to occur in the same place on all G7 units that have it.
US 710ULM and no issues with the display, color or bleed. Purchased Black from Bestbuy.
its one of the nicest LCD displays ive seen. Brightness and colors are fantastic.

No bleed here either.
no bleed here all good
Got mine from B&H yesterday. No light bleed at all.

Burn-in display

I am having my phone for 8 months now and few days ago I started to notice burns on the upper sides of the display. It is easiest to notice it on white screen even still they are not so obvious but noticeable if you look carefully. So does anyone else have the same problems and is it covered with warranty from HTC coz I bought phone over HTC official site?

+1 i got same thing since one week after used my phone for 9 month !!!! i went htc they said need to replace phone screen also there is no warranty for it ??
Same problem here.. Since I bought the phone online from HK and I am in the Middle East, the warranty is not covered. Such a bummer!
Guess I have to look for after market replacement screens.
Let me know if you find any solution.
This is the ips bleed thingy tons of u11 got, unfortunately it's very frequent with ips panels and many brands don't consider this as a fault unless its too big
