Hi, does anyone know of a way to change the default WiFi hostname in Stock Unrooted? I am on B211.
I know it is possible with root but I was wondering about non-rooted.
Perhaps through a service code I don't know about like the one mentioned here?

I am new to this and i have successfully rooted and unlocked my phone because i waned to put it on straight talk...and after all that i found out all i had to do was download and app and change the network settings. The phone can make calls and text however i dont have data. There is nonthing listed in my apn settings. Straight talk gave me the information that im suppose to enter in the setting but ice cream sandwhich doesnt allow you to change apn. So my question is what can i do? Could i change the rom to one that would allow me to alter the apn? I was told i would have to downgrade systems...that ICS and up. Would not allow changes to apn.
P.s. could you post links to how to install rom and what rom would allow apn access.
Im trying to research but havent really found a direct answer to my questiion.
Hello!
I got Motorola XYboard MZ617.
I rooted it and installed safestrap.
Now i have only one problem. i can't connect to internet because the tablet is locked to the Verizon network.
I would pay for the unlock code to unlock it, but the biggest problem is that there is no prompt for the code.
Anyone know any way to get the code prompt, or other way to unlock the network?
Well, i've decided to try to approach the solution myself.
Since flashing to custom ROM(whick does'nt exist for this) would debrand it, then i thought that maybe changing some files from retail version dump to the stock version would do it.
But i've searched the net for a retail version system dump, but have'nt fount any.
So anyone have a retail version dump or can make a dump? It does'nt necessarily have to be for same model. I think those carrier files are about the same for all.
I would compare the files and see if i can debrand this
EDIT:
For some reason, it appears that all other than 4G is working without any modification. I just needed to type APN settings manually.
All this time i though that everything is blocked, but appears not. But i still want the LTE/4G to work.
Now i've found out that maybe editing build.prop file would do the thing. So far no results when i tried to change few lines related to Verizon.
Is there any way to change it?
I'm currently running 4.4.4 and I tried with the iplink command and ifconfig but none of these works since I have the "Authentication problem"
Does anyone knows how to successfully do it?

Hello, and welcome to XDA!
In short, there is no legal way.
The long answer is that the MAC address is stored with your IMEI number, in an area known as the EFS. The EFS is your device identity, and there should be no two devices with the same identity. Changing the identity (particularly the IMEI), is illegal in most countries. As a result, this site is a site that would not offer help in this regard.
A more targeted approach is to work with your router to accept your device as is. Hopefully that will get you past your authentication problem.
Hope this helps.
Hi guys I'm sort of a newb not sure if this is in the right place but what the hell. I was wondering if anyone has found a fast stable root for the boost mobile version of the samsung galaxy s7? I tried the most popular version and i lost my ability to make calls and get data. I was wondering has anyone found a working version that doesnt delete your data or makes you lose the ability to make calls or get data?

I'm going to assume you didn't flash the patches to resolve all the current root issues.
Try this:

You could also try the Echoe Rom once you're rooted which is very stable from my testing.
Hi... I'm wondering the same thing. I have been researching this whole "rooting the s7" process and doing countless Google searches sometimes til 3-4 am and I can't find any new or reveled info to my issue. If I'm in the wrong section please point me to the right one. This is the only thread that comes close to my situation. I have successfully rooted my s7 but have no data/mms. I have followed a few guides with no luck getting root and data to work. I'm using a sprint s7 sm-g 930 that is flashed to work with boost mobile. My problem I believe is with the apn settings. If I'm on stock, I can't view my an settings as the are grayed out. When I root, I can view the apn settings but when I modify them and save they don't show up on the list of apns. All the info ive found only talks about the sprint or credo apn settings but nothing for boost mobile settings. Please let me know if you need any other info from me to successfully root this phone and have data working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am trying to change a sm-920t to an sm-920r4. I would like to use this phone with us cellular but because it is a 920t it's not possible. Is there a way to root the phone and change this? I'm familiar with Odin and changing firmware but I don't know about changing models? Any help appriciated.
