[HELP] Custom Boot Animations on J700T1 (2016)? - Samsung Galaxy J7 Questions & Answers

Has anyone with a J7 2016 been able to change their boot animation without issue? I would like to dabble in that but I don't know what to use and what steps to take without screwing up my phone or bricking it. If anyone could point me to some steps and sources for changing my boot animation smoothly on this specific phone model, I'd kindly appreciate it.

I did

You need Samsung QMG boot animation files. Search Samsung boot animation qmg on the Internet. Also, they need to be placed in the /system/media directory, and you'll want to backup your stock ones first.

Hopefully, a AOSP based rom will be developed soon for our phone that will allow for the traditional install method with zip files.

[TUTORIAL] [BOOT SCREEN] How to change bootscreen in custom rom

I'm roaming around a few days, but couldn't find any link explaining exactly how to change the bootscreen in custom ROM in desire s like RunnyMede ROMs or other sense ROMs. So, here's how to change in the easiest way:
Requirements:
1. S-off
2. Rooted phone
3. Custom ROM (sense ROMs)
Procedure:
1. Download ES File Explorer. Install it. In the settings, you will find 'Root explorer' & 'Mount file system'.. Check in both the boxes. I mean enable them both. It may ask for superuser permission. Accept it.
2. Download any custom made bootscreen available here in XDA. [you will find them in .zip format. some are even flashable. don't download them.]
3. You can use two animations- one for boot start and another for shutdown.
4. Now rename one file as htc_bootanimation.zip [don't write Htc or HTC]
5. Rename the other one as htc_downanimation.zip
6. Now cut them both & paste them in yr root directory in /data/local [use ES explorer now to explore your root directory]
7. Overwrite the existing files
8. You are done. You will see in your next boot.
I knew that, anyways thanks man
never knew this and was tryin to flash th zip untill nw...wait i'll try..

got a prob...changed th boot anim but nw phone won't switch off...if i give power off it just switches off and then back on all by itself...
Yah I got the same prob too with my new own custom bootanimation... Looking for a solution too...

do post here if u find it...thnx in advance...
Thank you!
Thanks man!
Something important
you all are welcome.
but remember, bootanimation location for different ROMs are different.
for example:
Runny based rom (proxuser's v1.5.1 or older) --> data/local
Sensation based rom (proxuser's latest roms) --> system/customization/resource
Problem solved
Sorry guys, I made a mistake. you should not use the same file as 'bootanimation' and 'downaniamtion'. If you use the same, when the phone starts shutting down, it cannot recognize it's been shutting down rather it restarts. so, here's the thing- you can use two different animations, one for phone start up and another for shut down walaaaaaaa....
[first post has been corrected]
Is it working for Cyanogen or only for Sense ROMs ?
I never used cyanogen Roms

Changing boot animation

There is a thread in the Universal S6 Edge that has some bootanis but after following the instructions it's still not working for me.
Went into System/media and replaced the qmg files as per OP's instructions. However, I'm still getting the stock Samsung bootani. I noticed that in system/media there are lots of other QMG files with the term "boot" in them. I'm guessing one of these files has to be deleted or changed. Anyone have any thoughts?
The files for sprint boot animations are:
SPR_bootsamsung.qmg
and
SPR_bootsmsungloop.qmg
I would goto /system/media, rename the existing SPR_ files to something else, and then rename the bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg that were installed from what you downloaded from the other thread to the SPR_ filename.
Should work then.
What about the sound

Did you replace the other one and reboot? What rom are you on?
Stock rom and yes reboot

Maybe because you're stock and assuming not deodexed
This might work for you too if your comfortable moving some files around and making sure permissions are okay and such (doesn't seem to matter much anymore though)

Thanks fgr for the reply that's cool what u led me to but I have currently changed the animation but not the sound
This is the thread everyone is talking about:

Change Boot animation?

So i've tried to use the bootbox app to change my boot animation, i've used itvon my old phones bu t this is 1st Samsung, what's the proper way to change it?
I'm also interested in this.
You might want to read this thread my friends ...

So yea, the reason I rooted my phone in the first place was to hopefully be shed of that obnoxious boot animation, but it seems our phones are "unique". I've done the bootanimation.zip replacement and permissions, I've done the individual files (my media directory has both, as well as one in the bin). And I STILL get the obnoxious virgin mobile animation. I followed the link above.. and uh..whaaaaa??
I'd like to hear from anyone that has successfully changed their boot up animation to something cool on their SM-J700P.
Would going to a custom ROM work? I have hesitated since I have marshmellow at present.
I have boot animation support. Depending on the response I get back I might write a "how to" thread. Plus I have a BUNCH of boot animations. I can post the directions and Samsungani files needed.. right now my phone boots up like PlayStation

Awesome. I have one that I like, the zip containing the three qmg files. I've replaced the files manually and followed step by step on YouTube, so I hope you have what I'm missing.

Do you have the Android default boot animation system working, or just support for the qmg system?
Got it working. Look up bootanimation4U... Flash it. If you can't find it lemme know and I'll post it
Then, manually change out your boot animations or make a flashbable zip
Help here
I accidentally deleted bootanimation.qmg file in my Galaxy j7 and after that the samsung boot up screen is not showing... I tried flashing and manual methods to fix it but nothing seems to help.
Devs please provide different boot animation flashable zips..
Thanks in advance

Boot Animations! Show and share!

Welcome! This is a separate thread from the homescreen & wallpaper one.
Here you can share boot animations and splash screens and only that!
If you show, please try to share it! Either in a flashable zip, system file (replaceable file in system), or APK (like LiveBoot)
Also, try to state the dimensions of your file if it was not originally meant for/sized to the S7/E
Try to avoid requesting custom animations, but I understand there are wishes.
PLEASE
-Give credit to the creator
-Do not be rude when someone asks how to use your method of installing your animation - if anything PM me with a tutorial and a link to your file/s and I'll add it to this main post.
This will eventually be made into a Boot Animation Central Thread - a place you can find boot animations for your S7/E - So PM me if you want anything added here!:good:
Need Original Boot QMGs
I tried making my own boot animation (failed horribly, btw), and now I am stuck with this crappy animation and I kinda need the original animation files (from /system/media, bootsamsung.qmg, bootsamsungloop.qmg, shutdown.qmg). I kinda said 'crap' in my head as soon as I had overwritten those files. Anyone mind sending me them? And maybe adding them to this post here?
--Addition
I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge on the SM-G935U firmware.
--Addition
I made another one, anyways. Looks a lot nicer than the one I had before.

Need help with creating Boot Animations for Samsung

So as you guys probably know , Samsung's OS is a bit different than other roms and and therefore I can't install the specific boot animation I want , because it requires QMG and the boot animation I want is a ZIP file , if anyone can help me to convert it from ZIP to QMG or just do that for me , it would be much appreciated , thanks in advance

Google can be your friend on this one. You need to make them image by image in png format. Then use whatever Samsung uses it does. You can't just convert a zip to qmg.
If it was absolutely that simple every one would be making them. There are guides out there. But tedious work.
I tried googling but this stuff is complicated for me and it could be cool if anyone would do that for me or atleast help me with that cuz I didnt really understand everything

I used to have a zip file that enables the use of boot animations in .zip format it's old coming from Lollipop era try searching the file name Lollipop Bootanimation Zip Enabler in Google you should be able to find old posts and links about it
If you decide to do this always remember to backup everything since you'll be flashing a zip file in twrp to enable the option to use bootanimation.zip

I've seen that, pretty outdated and I think has some issues on the Android versions not mentioned on that post. What I noticed is that all that zip does is replace the bin/bootanimation file. If my crazy noob logic tells me something, I'm thinking that it may be possible to get a bin/bootanimation file from AOSP and replace it on current Samsung firmware to try to bring back bootanimation.zip support. It prooooooooobably won't work but it's funny to think about

Hi,
I've been looking for a while now to flash custom boot animations. There are tutorials, but I don't dare start well. Unfortunately, not many, if any, custom bootanimations are in qmg format.

I also searched behind a Magisk or Exposed module, which could fix this, but I don't think there is one.

Is there no safe way to do this? I have replaced the qmg files but nothing changes. I've deleted the files and they come back. Kind of afraid to flash the marshmalow bootanimation.zip support since its quite outdated. Would love to know if someone managed to use the zip instead of the qmg on a s9+ with oneui 2.0
Thanks in advance
I forget which Samsung galaxy I did this on but I simply renamed bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg to another name and then copied a bootanimation.zip file into that same folder (/system/media) and it worked.
You also have to make sure permissions are set correctly
