NooB here need advice before flashing phone, basically a few questions? lg g3 d850 MM - AT&T LG G3

Hello this is my first post and also my first time even trying this, what I want to do is eventually have my phone rooted and maybe running unbloated LL or MM. I have of course the lg g3 d850 running MM 6.0 D85030l.
I have read and read and even downloaded both the tot and the kdz type of software for kitkat and have them in different files of course. I have the lg flash tool 2014. I just need to know with my phone what is the best way to go about to achieve the root process? From what I gather the TOT files flashing back to kitkat and then rooting there, installing twrp, and then upgrading from there with I would think a custom rom to get to maybe LL or higher.
I know this is all on this site a little here and there and I have really tried to put it together, especially from Hyelton his tutorial so far I understand the best. If someone could just tell me if I am understanding this correctly before I plug in my phone would be greatly appreciated. Or give some better advice.
Thanks in advance

You would use LGUP since your coming from MM. LG flashtools wont work. But yes you would downgrade then root. But at the moment becareful downgrading due to AntiRollback which can brick. But most of the time with LGUP it will stop you from doing it.
Also how did you download a kdz? The D850 is TOT method only, if you downloaded a KDZ its not for your model.

Yes you are right it was not a kdz it was a LL file that came from your server, my bad
So the lgup is ok for the d850 now? I was reading your tutorial and it said d855 only, just asking and being careful and thank you for responding and helping me.

Lgup works with every model. It just that lgup sometimes won't recognize the phone. But lgup is the only program that works once your MM.
And your welcome

Hi again sorry to bother you, have not took the plunge yet had to get my computer straight..random weirdness so reformatted anyhow
should I downgrade just to LL or can I go right to KK from MM? And the LL file I am not sure I understand it cause it is quite different in structure not like the KK file. Like I said a noob. I can deal with files just have never with android so much. I do not read anywhere where anyone downgrades that far, but when they were at LL maybe, but isn't it easier to root in kitkat? from what I have read, a million questions, sorry trying to put it together.

What are you meaning my LL? You mean LP? You cannot downgrade to LP as there's no LP you can only get LP in form of an OTA update from Kitkat. The only stock firmware that can be flashed is Kitkat.

Many thanks for the guidance it all worked perfect am back to kitkat and rooted with twrp installed, guess that was the easy part? Now it opens up a whole new world

Help With Update After Root - Virgin Mobile Variant

Hello, I have the Virgin Mobile LG G Stylo and I had rooted it before I knew that I would not be able to get the Android 6.0 marshmallow update after rooting, as the update shows the android with a red triangle and says "error" after trying to install. I know why this happens, but is there any way to fix this issue so I can update?
Thanks guys!
BTW, I used Kingroot to root it, if that matters.
You HAVE to return to stock, you can't update to MM by just unrooting, you'll brick. You can start on this unbrick page- http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-stylo/how-to/official-boost-lg-g-stylo-unbrick-guide-t3215198 and get the 5.1.1 clean image, and then wait forever for an OTA update, OR, after you've restored the clean image to 5.1.1 from the 1st link use this link to update from your clean 5.1.1 to 6.0. It says 6.0.1 but it's 6.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-stylo/how-to/untouched-6-0-1-boost-sprint-t3285764
I hope you'll reconsider updating. LG has limited MM on our phones and you have to mess around to get adoptable storage that has pitfalls, and you can ONLY get temp root now and we may NEVER get full root and with virgin /boost/sprint they have on MM limited the internal storage and even if you have a large sd it will say it's full and you can't move apps. I'd try to check up on what you'll lose and just hold off to see if some major player comes up with a root, a real root. Many of the temp roots now are bricking and it's rough sending it in to LG. Do think twice and read up. Good Luck You can always move forward from Lollipop, but you cannot go back to Lollipop from MM
Thanks very much. I have ran into another issue. I dont know why this happened, but now when turn on the phone, it will stay at the virgin mobile screen when the sd card is in, but when the sd card is out, the phone will boot to the screen where it says "Starting Apps" then it will stay there for ever. I dont know what I did, but before this I tried using super sume to replace king root with supersu, which didnt work, and and I also installed titanium backup, but didnt use it. That is all I did different. What is wrong?? LG offered to repair it, it is still under warranty, but I want to fix it myself if at all possible. Please help, thanks!
Also, if I follow those instructions you gave me to turn back to stock, how do I know if I have ZV4 or ZV5, and what does ZV4 or ZV5 mean?

You go on the settings of the phone, click on the software info, but I think ZV5 is 5.1.1 and ZV4 is 5.0.2. You definitely need to use the exact right one or you will be really bricked.
The thing is, I cannot get into my phone now. I am pretty sure it was 5.1.1 but I don't know for sure.

[Q] Anything for the Boost LG Stylo LGLS770 on 6.0?

Sorry for asking what everyone is asking, but I can't seem to find anything too specific. With all of the different models, differences between the GSM and CDMA versions, etc., I just want to be sure. I wanted to know if there was anything I could do with my Boost LG Stylo LGLS770 on 6.0? Completely stock. Could I root? (I know the temp root thread, but supposedly the method messes up your phone?) Could I install TWRP? Could I install another ROM? Could I do anything with it or is it completely locked down?
You are locked out of flashing the kernel by the new protections in MM. No mods at all. The best you can hope for is enough people figuring out how to flash back to Lollipop without tripping qfuse, and root from there. But flashing back has not been successfully reported on.
I flashed back from zv7 to zv5 using the files from herehttp://lg-firmware-rom.com/downloads/sprint-lg-ls770-stock-firmware-ls770zv5-dll-for-lg-uplg-up-for-store/.If you get stuck on the configuring phone screen, try a combination of up,down, power keys until you see the word skip with the red x.Choose skip and the desktop will appear.I rooted with kingo root pc version first. Then from download mode I installed the rooted zv5 system image. When I rebooted I uninstalled the kingo root superuser and updated the. super-su version 2.46 to 2.65.It's been running fine the last 3 days.Sorry but I'm not allowed to share zv5 tot file and dll files but take my word it works thanks to dev gary vestal from xda!

Thanks , good to know that flashing back works. Hopefully the ZV5 will be out and about for the rest of us at some point, as LG is on Stylo2+ now.

Updated to 6.0.1, CAN THIS BE UNDONE??

First, I'd like to say that while I'm not new to this, I AM quite rusty. So before you call me retarded for doing what I did, I already know. Now...
I have been just daily driving along on 4.4.2 for a good few years on my phone but I just got a Tab4 and rooted it and noticed that the TWRP version I wound up with was newer than on my phone, and had a few more options. Sooo, I tried to Odin the TWRP to my phone and caused all kinds of problems. Wouldn't boot. So I downloaded everything I could get my hands on to try to Odin onto the G900V to get it up and running again. The ONLY this I could flash was this...
PD1_Full_Factory_Restore_No_Aboot.tar
So now the phone is on the 6.0.1 which I figured was great but quickly noticed that not everything was working. No WiFi, no Camera, no Back and Recent keys, and no extsdcard recognition, so obviously unacceptable. Is this too new to be undone? I spent all night last night and today reading through the various forums, and I haven't seen it directly addressed.
Here are my questions...
1. Can I root this and fix the issues from there? If so, with what tool?
2. If I cannot yet root this, how do I downgrade from this kernel/firmware to something that is at least stable for this device?
Point me in the right direction, I'm not a total newb. I've rooted many devices, many times, but I really haven't been keeping up on anything for some time. Any help would be awesome, I'll pour some beer out for you, Thx in advance.
~Chris
I tried all of these, none will flash via Odin but the one that got me to where I am (PD1)
mods, please delete this post #2.
I edited it all into #1
Odin back to stock
I did something similar, which is what I get for just reading the instructions instead of the warnings at the top of a post.
I tried a number of things, but ended up using odin to do a complete wipe and go back to stock.
Thanks for the reply.
AFAIK this IS a stock ROM, but as I said this was the only thing I could get to flash after I tried to flash a new TWRP. Nothing else will go.
Being a bit rusty myself, it caught my ear when you mentioned the full wipe, I never performed a wipe of any sort during my efforts.
Could that be the problem?
Also, someone please refresh my memory, what piece is it that actually determines whether a device is rootable?
Is it the kernel? Is this one rootable? What is the modern method for acquiring root? I was using towelroot back in the 4.4.2/4.4.4 days.
Thanks
UPDATE : It also will not make a phone call. Hitting the CALL button or trying to answer when it rings will cause the phone to reboot, lol
Someone please get me back to a custom recovery, I've got some great TWRP backups and a ****load of titaniumBU
Just downgrade to PB1 using the stock TAR and unlock your bl from there...
Thank you for the PB1 advice.
Should I be able to accomplish this via Odin?
Is a full wipe/reset required?
Thank you for the PB1 tip
Got that handled, all is up and running, but not rooted
Gunna have to wait till after work for that stuff
Thanks again
OK so now I'm fully stock PB1, where do I want to go from here to acquire root?
Which of these 2 threads shall I follow?
[GUIDE] Unlocking the Galaxys S5 Bootloader using DEV Bootloader [KK-MM], OR...
Working Root Method For 5.0 Lollipop Roms [OE1] [OG5] [OK3] [PB1] [3-3-16]
I ask because above I was advised to "downgrade to PB1 using the stock TAR and unlock your bl from there..."
My question arises from the fact that I had this phone rooted for YEARS before I messed it up, and the thread proclaiming that "S5 bootloader unlock is here!" seems to be only 3 months old. Leading me to wonder, do I need an unlocked bootloader, or merely to acquire root? Seems like a valid question to me. I just want to make sure in advance before proceeding.
SO in summary, this is the question...

Thx for that. Being able to see the video helped a lot, not because I can't read, but just because I was able to see what was SUPPOSED to happen at each step.
All fixed up now. Thx again.

Bootloader Unlock and 6.0 Flashing Progress.

Iv started this thread to get talking about unlocking the bootloader and a proven flashing method for 6.0. @LGMONO and @ZVNexus are working on root for a 6.0 tot, if it its authenticated. But, we still need a method for unlocking the bootloader, aswell as a stable way to flash the tot so we can back up and gain root. So for these cases, anyone have a clue where we are at with them?
UPDATE: 3-27-17
So no way for root has been found yet, but its not over. Android 7.0 Nougat has been confirmed for the LGV10 and we are supposed to have it by the end of this month so realistically, I say sometime next month. Now hopefully they will ease up on the restrictions in 7.0. But i have found something interesting with 6.0 on the v10. I tried to install Stump.apk (a root-kit app) and android warned me that the app contains code that tried to alter android or something like that. Anyways, so my guess that a new way might be possible to gain root access. If you can force an app to change its code after being installed, that might work... If it can even work like that. They have over hauled the security on the v10, so atleast your stuff is relatively safe if you do your part.
For now, im gonna start talking to people to see if maybe lg or at&t would consider removing their block once a phone has gone out of warranty. Im on lease for mine so I can kinda understand why they dont want it modified, but if i pay it off or out right, i should have the right to do as i wish for it, so im gonna try to talk with them about that.
UPDATE:
After looking around, some people found success of downgrading to 5.0 or 5.1 with LGUP on the g4. Now it didnt say it was carrier specific, but, if its not, then im beginning to wonder where the problem of just flashing a tot really is on the v10.

We are pretty close. This is pretty weird though, when I open boot.img on the Marshmallow TOT, it refuses to open the archive, and fails. The boot.img on the 5.1.1 TOT does not have this problem however and opens just fine. This is strange and it is risky to flash not knowing if it might work. If only I had extra phones to test this lol

It might be as simple as just a broken boot.img. im not 100%, but i dont think there is any signitures of authenticity in the boot.img, so you might could use a different one. I have a copy of the 6.0 TOT. Later ill go try to unpack the boot.img and see what i can find.

We would have to use the boot.img from a 6.0 AT&T LG V10 Though, because of Anti-TOT Rollback. Changing the boot.img with one from 5.1..1 would screw that up I think.
I'll pay for mm root, please keep the effort alive. This is the best phone with a removable battery - so best phone I can own - and since I'm stuck with it... I'll pay to improve it, as we all should.

As far as donations, talk to @LGMONO and @ZVNexus

Its not that the phone is dead, its just that the majority of the people who bought this phone did not buy it to root or anything. They bought it because of the camera. Anyone else would have bought a LG G4, G5, or a Samsung Note. All of those are VERY good options if you want to root.

I got it because of the removable battery and micro SD support... and yeah the camera too, but at the time it had root, so I wasn't really too worried about it. Guess I'm SOL now.

I mean, its not that bad. Right now without root you can still customize your phone to a extent. You can use a program to disable (NOT REMOVE) any programs you want, so all AT&T bloat doesn't show on my app drawer anymore, same with any LG apps. A nice wallpaper, Nova, a icon pack, and it looks pretty fine and dandy! Right now I have about 4 months left and then I can get a new phone. Not too bad. Was thinking about the new Nexus lineup.

Yeah I still have some time, but I'm going to just save to pay for the new "Nexus" out-right (I think you have to anyways). This is really too bad. I've never owned a phone that was so locked down that we can't unlock the bootloader, root or anything. It's maddening. I should have done better research; if I had, I would have found that the "root" we had for 5.1.1 was only temporary and there was no unlocked bootloader.
Hey all! Good news! A 9-year-old bug called the "Dirty Cow" exploit still exists in the Linux/Android kernel can easily grant root on any Android phone!!! See the video below.
http://www.xda-developers.com/9-year...on-of-android/
So there's another bug to exploit for root and even possibly unlocking the bootloader! The bug has been fixed recently in Linux but hasn't been rolled into Android yet. If anyone can get this working on my AT&T LG V10 (running Marshmallow) I'll give a reward of $50! Plus you'll be my hero! Now get crackin!

Questions about Rooting 20C

Hello,
Unfortunately, I have 20C. In order to root my phone I need to downgrade to 20A. I believe these are the following downgrade steps.
Download LGUp
Download Uppercut
Download 20A KDZ
Will the 20A KDZ located here work?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...ock-h830-20a-rom-flashable-zips-imgs-t3511294
Please let me know if the following steps are correct, and if I'm using the correct KDZ. Thanks!
yup.. all looks good. only thing missing which you might already have would be the LG usb drivers.
Yep, that works. I'd like to add that if you have Windows 10 & haven't touched windows defender, it will say it's got a virus and remove it automatically. To fix this, i had to completely turn off windows defender in settings before running uppercut. That's what made it work for me because otherwise i just kept getting an error that it couldn't find a required file to install uppercut.
I have an 830 with 20c too. I've been reading around trying to find a working guide to root. Is downgrading to 20a still the recommended path?
Thanks
