[Q] Anything for the Boost LG Stylo LGLS770 on 6.0? - LG G Stylo Questions & Answers

Sorry for asking what everyone is asking, but I can't seem to find anything too specific. With all of the different models, differences between the GSM and CDMA versions, etc., I just want to be sure. I wanted to know if there was anything I could do with my Boost LG Stylo LGLS770 on 6.0? Completely stock. Could I root? (I know the temp root thread, but supposedly the method messes up your phone?) Could I install TWRP? Could I install another ROM? Could I do anything with it or is it completely locked down?

You are locked out of flashing the kernel by the new protections in MM. No mods at all. The best you can hope for is enough people figuring out how to flash back to Lollipop without tripping qfuse, and root from there. But flashing back has not been successfully reported on.

I flashed back from zv7 to zv5 using the files from herehttp://lg-firmware-rom.com/downloads/sprint-lg-ls770-stock-firmware-ls770zv5-dll-for-lg-uplg-up-for-store/.If you get stuck on the configuring phone screen, try a combination of up,down, power keys until you see the word skip with the red x.Choose skip and the desktop will appear.I rooted with kingo root pc version first. Then from download mode I installed the rooted zv5 system image. When I rebooted I uninstalled the kingo root superuser and updated the. super-su version 2.46 to 2.65.It's been running fine the last 3 days.Sorry but I'm not allowed to share zv5 tot file and dll files but take my word it works thanks to dev gary vestal from xda!

Thanks , good to know that flashing back works. Hopefully the ZV5 will be out and about for the rest of us at some point, as LG is on Stylo2+ now.

[Q] Safest Root Method for D80020y

Hi there,
I got a "certified like new" D800 from an At&t Device Support Center recently and it came with the latest OTA D80020y.
I'm trying to figure out what the most conservative way to root 20y would be.
I've looked into:
- IOroot25: Seems like it only supports up to D800 10q.
- Towelroot v3 by geohot: This post makes me think towelroot won't work with 20y (confirms that ioroot won't work either).
- Stump Root?: As I understand it's for Sprint/Verizon G3, but this post confirms that it will likely work on D80020y with a brute force method (not sure what that entails).
So stump root sounds like the only option for rooting on 20y, but does anyone know if there is any issues or risks associated with this brute force method compared with other root methods?
Is the safest way to get root for someone on 20y to simply use the LG Flash Tool and go back to older KK or JB firmware? If that is the case, which firmware is ideal for rooting?
I don't want custom recovery at this point, but I will eventually when I grow weary of the LG overlay.
Hopefully this thread will help others who find themselves on D80020y and want root privileges (or even get recovery for that matter). I think if you're planning on getting recovery and flashing a new firmware, LG Flash Tool is the way to go though. I just don't want to abandon my setup simply for root.
Thanks!
~bokonon9
im on 20y and been using Stump root since day one. Absolutely no issues for me. You brute force it, it takes 2 or 3 minutes then it asks you to reboot. reboot, install superSU then you are golden.
From 20u, I OTA updated to 20y then used Stump to root (bruteforce of course). Everything works fine since.
It works just smooth.. no hiccups at all..
Its worked like charm.. I was really hesitated to root my device as it was my first time to root to get my lost files which I accidentally deleted. I saw this post and thought of giving a try. The steps I followed are
1. Installed stump root on my device (downloaded and transferred from my mac)
2. it will ask permission to Bruteforce and select yes.
3. it takes less than a minute to install
4. restarted twice
5. installed supersu and rootchecker
6. Done.. got ROOT access.
Can anyone please please suggest me how to get deleted files from my LG G2. I deleted 2 files to save memory and later realized that I need that files and it contained my important data.
Please please..

FYI, I got TWRP with this download: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407585979
non-AT&T users should select the correct file from http://kevinwithtech.blogspot.com/2014/09/how-to-make-lg-g2-look-like-lg-g3.html
So, I have a D80020y unrooted. First I must use Stumproot to get root, and then use Autorec to install TWRP, right?
Also, can anyone explain me if I can use LG Flash Tool on D80020y? Can I use it without root?
Finally!

You are the effing man!
I completely messed up my wife's new LG G2 by flashing the wrong recovery image through TWRP (like an idiot). My immediate inability to get into recovery mode led me down a rabbit hole filled with failed solutions... each one compounding the problem more and more until it all snowballed into a situation where the 'Settings' function in Android stopped working altogether, I had no recovery, and download mode froze every time I attempted to use it. Despite all this, somehow my computer still recognized the phone as a media device >> All I had left was the ability to drag and drop files into the internal storage.
... and then I came across this magnificent link to AutoRec that you posted and flashed the proper version of TWRP onto the phone effortlessly. I downloaded it, launched it through File Manager, dropped the CloudyG2 Rom onto the SD card, and installed that S.O.B. with ease. THE PHONE WORKS LIKE AN ABSOLUTE CHAMP NOW. Flawless.
I never... NEVER post on forums, but I made this account specifically to tell you "Thank you!". That tiny little link solved countless hours of mind bending stress (and quite possibly saved my marriage) in mere minutes. Cheers buddy! PM me if you get the chance. I want to give you a shout out on my podcast this week.
What is the download link for stumproot?

Sorry folks for bringing up an old post but i need some serious opinion on this one;
-Couple of months ago when there was a deal on eBay when AT&T LG G2 32GB went on sale like real cheap, I've purchased one for myself. Ever since than its been rock solid n performed well on daily tasks. pretty much handles everything i through at it.
-For the last few days i've been going through serious Battery Drain because of Android OS(Kernel), Pics i've attached, kindly check for brief idea about what i'm been through.
-No intention of Rooting it, though I'm aware of rooting devices in the past. But If anyone has encountered such issue and found a way out, i'll be happy. I just don't want to Root my device. That's what the main purpose of this post.
-I've done factory reset once 2 days ago but ratio to Screen On Time to Android OS is always like 1:2, you may check on attachment.
-There's no such app could cause Battery drain, Bcos i've been using the same apps for over a month n never encountered such in the past Or any of other devices.
-If Rooting is the last option then guide me the steps, If I'm doing anything wrong or not.
For the record I've d80020y build come PreInstalled, last OTA for 4.4.2 from AT&T
Steps:
-Fully Charged > Unplug it > Under Settings > Turned on USB Debugging while tapping 7 times on Build number.
-Mark on Unknown application Under Security.
-Insatll Stump Root v1.2 .apk
-Hit Grind > If Message pop ups > choose Brute Force > Ask for Reboot > After that Install SuperSU from PlayStore.
That's all about Rooting the device. But what about Bootloader? How to Unlock the bootloader?
As i go through several thread, it redirects me onto AutoRec to flash TWRP over Stock recovery. But my concern, Does Rooting will Unlocked the bootloader on itself? Or Have to follow fastboot commands to do it.
Do i have to partitioned my device, like External or Internal, as my all previous devices had MicroSD support whereas this one is 32GB Inbuilt.

Is being rooted going to be a problem when taking the OTA Lollipop update?

I'm asking for my girlfriend. I have the T-Mobile variant with a custom recovery and I know not to take an OTA because custom recoveries and OTAs don't mix. She, however, has an AT&T variant and she just told me she was prompted to update to Lollipop. She rooted long ago with whatever root for AT&T app was popular at the time.
Doesn't taking an OTA just make you lose root? Nothing else to worry about?
I would not recommend due to the chance it could boot loop. I would wait for a OTA zip and flash through TWRP.
If she is rooted it will break root, If she has a custom recovery (twrp) than it will cause a boot loop.
advice: if she wants lollipop she's gonna have to follow these steps.
http://www.androidrootz.com/2014/07/how-to-unroot-lg-g3-all-variants.html
Going to pass the link on to her now.
There is no custom recovery. She used Stump Root originally to get her phone route, if that makes any difference.

You would still lose root
2SHAYNEZ
Yep.. I went through the whole process of going completely back to stock and then rooted before updating to Lollipop hoping it would stay. It didn't and Stump Root says it's already rooted.
Thanks for this cool tool and method. The LGFlashtool gets up the 'Change to download mode' step adn then fails, with a '[16:10:26] can't change to download mode 00000064' error in the box. Any help would be appreciated. In the meantime I'll try another usb port. Also, when I first ran the Flashtool I had to select from three choices: the default checked off one had the word Korea in it, the second had Brazil and the third had the word Global. I left in on Korea--you think I should have gone with global?
Thanks again, Xamadiex.

I read somewhere the LG Flashtool had to be modified at installation to avoid what you are going through.
You're right, it's just a matter of overwriting the megalock.dll file after you install the tool. It was a step I didn't miss. But good news for me, I used another pc and when I installed the flashtool it again gave me the three choices (not sure, but the title bar of the window was something like 'DMB').
This time I chose the 'global' selection and ran the tool as before and it completed for me. I'm currently DL'ing the lollipop update right now. Thanks for the quick reply, netomel.

I just received my G3 for AT&T yesterday. It had 4.4.2 firmware on it. I rooted and installed titanium backup and froze all of the AT&T bloatware. Got notification last night that I had a system update available so I went ahead and let it update thinking it would be 4.4.4 but I was wrong. End result, I wound up with a perfectly functional Lollipop with all bloatware removed, but did lose root in the process. I can live with that until someone figures root for lollipop out I think.

Yes, it installed with no problems at all. And I must say that I am loving it. So glad that I froze all of those at&t apps before I lost root. I am looking forward to root for lollipop so that I can freeze a few more. I must say that this is the best stock android rom that I have ever had the pleasure of using. I will probably stick with it for quite some time because of the speed and excellent battery life.

Call Bull**** all you want, I don't lie. To be honest, I can't even remember what method I used to root when on KitKat. Then I used TiBu to freeze a bunch of apps that I didn't want or need. Shortly thereafter the update hit me so I went ahead and let it do its thing. As stated, I did lose root afterwards but the apps I had frozen with TiBu remained frozen and everything still worked as it should. I waited patiently for a few weeks until the one click root script became available and used it to root lollipop, then installed TWRP and flashed Cloudy G3 stock ROM which is where I am happily at at this moment.
It could possibly have successfully updated due to the fact that I had not installed a custom recovery, that's the only thing I can think of that would have allowed it to happen on mine, yet not on others that were rooted.
EDIT: After reading back through this thread it jogged my memory. I used the Stump Root method to root while on KitKat.
You'd be the first person reported to be able to do this.
It would be a boon to the AT&T G3 community if you could remember the precise details of how you pulled this off as it would save loads of time and hassle for everyone else who has to restore to KK (which means a full wipe), then take the OTA to L, then root there.
Thanks in advance.
*edit
I think you're L is version 20f, not the latest 21l, based on the date of your posts above.
Further, I'd suppose that what may have happened to you, is that the deivce had already downloaded the L update (from 10f to 20f) before you pulled off the root on KitKat. Then you simply acknowledged the install, which perhaps KK would allow to continue through.
Reports are the L will not allow this. So, going forward, someone rooted on L would not be allowed to complete the install even if the package is already downloaded on the device.
Still, it is, interesting.

how exactly are you installing the rooted system? maybe post a link so i can have a look at it. leave off the http and .com or whatever so it will let you post it.
once you flash a rooted system, you shouldnt need to root again, unless you can show me some other info that says this is necessary. a rooted system is rooted, kinda doesnt make sense to root it again.

ahh, being stuck in a bootloop is important info you should have included before.
in that case, i recommend you stick with trying to restore the stock software. its best to try and fix it, and learn how, before possibly making it worse.
i would search google for ways to help you fix it, and forget about the root and non stock stuff until its working again.

Help With Update After Root - Virgin Mobile Variant

Hello, I have the Virgin Mobile LG G Stylo and I had rooted it before I knew that I would not be able to get the Android 6.0 marshmallow update after rooting, as the update shows the android with a red triangle and says "error" after trying to install. I know why this happens, but is there any way to fix this issue so I can update?
Thanks guys!
BTW, I used Kingroot to root it, if that matters.
You HAVE to return to stock, you can't update to MM by just unrooting, you'll brick. You can start on this unbrick page- http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-stylo/how-to/official-boost-lg-g-stylo-unbrick-guide-t3215198 and get the 5.1.1 clean image, and then wait forever for an OTA update, OR, after you've restored the clean image to 5.1.1 from the 1st link use this link to update from your clean 5.1.1 to 6.0. It says 6.0.1 but it's 6.0 http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-stylo/how-to/untouched-6-0-1-boost-sprint-t3285764
I hope you'll reconsider updating. LG has limited MM on our phones and you have to mess around to get adoptable storage that has pitfalls, and you can ONLY get temp root now and we may NEVER get full root and with virgin /boost/sprint they have on MM limited the internal storage and even if you have a large sd it will say it's full and you can't move apps. I'd try to check up on what you'll lose and just hold off to see if some major player comes up with a root, a real root. Many of the temp roots now are bricking and it's rough sending it in to LG. Do think twice and read up. Good Luck You can always move forward from Lollipop, but you cannot go back to Lollipop from MM
Thanks very much. I have ran into another issue. I dont know why this happened, but now when turn on the phone, it will stay at the virgin mobile screen when the sd card is in, but when the sd card is out, the phone will boot to the screen where it says "Starting Apps" then it will stay there for ever. I dont know what I did, but before this I tried using super sume to replace king root with supersu, which didnt work, and and I also installed titanium backup, but didnt use it. That is all I did different. What is wrong?? LG offered to repair it, it is still under warranty, but I want to fix it myself if at all possible. Please help, thanks!
Also, if I follow those instructions you gave me to turn back to stock, how do I know if I have ZV4 or ZV5, and what does ZV4 or ZV5 mean?

You go on the settings of the phone, click on the software info, but I think ZV5 is 5.1.1 and ZV4 is 5.0.2. You definitely need to use the exact right one or you will be really bricked.
The thing is, I cannot get into my phone now. I am pretty sure it was 5.1.1 but I don't know for sure.

NooB here need advice before flashing phone, basically a few questions? lg g3 d850 MM

Hello this is my first post and also my first time even trying this, what I want to do is eventually have my phone rooted and maybe running unbloated LL or MM. I have of course the lg g3 d850 running MM 6.0 D85030l.
I have read and read and even downloaded both the tot and the kdz type of software for kitkat and have them in different files of course. I have the lg flash tool 2014. I just need to know with my phone what is the best way to go about to achieve the root process? From what I gather the TOT files flashing back to kitkat and then rooting there, installing twrp, and then upgrading from there with I would think a custom rom to get to maybe LL or higher.
I know this is all on this site a little here and there and I have really tried to put it together, especially from Hyelton his tutorial so far I understand the best. If someone could just tell me if I am understanding this correctly before I plug in my phone would be greatly appreciated. Or give some better advice.
Thanks in advance

You would use LGUP since your coming from MM. LG flashtools wont work. But yes you would downgrade then root. But at the moment becareful downgrading due to AntiRollback which can brick. But most of the time with LGUP it will stop you from doing it.
Also how did you download a kdz? The D850 is TOT method only, if you downloaded a KDZ its not for your model.

Yes you are right it was not a kdz it was a LL file that came from your server, my bad
So the lgup is ok for the d850 now? I was reading your tutorial and it said d855 only, just asking and being careful and thank you for responding and helping me.

Lgup works with every model. It just that lgup sometimes won't recognize the phone. But lgup is the only program that works once your MM.

Hi again sorry to bother you, have not took the plunge yet had to get my computer straight..random weirdness so reformatted anyhow
should I downgrade just to LL or can I go right to KK from MM? And the LL file I am not sure I understand it cause it is quite different in structure not like the KK file. Like I said a noob. I can deal with files just have never with android so much. I do not read anywhere where anyone downgrades that far, but when they were at LL maybe, but isn't it easier to root in kitkat? from what I have read, a million questions, sorry trying to put it together.

What are you meaning my LL? You mean LP? You cannot downgrade to LP as there's no LP you can only get LP in form of an OTA update from Kitkat. The only stock firmware that can be flashed is Kitkat.

I'm sorry yes LP, Ok now I know what everyone means by back to stock. makes sense. This is why I have to ask. What I thought in the first place and then I read something somewhere it just gets way confusing, now you got me right.
Many thanks for the guidance it all worked perfect am back to kitkat and rooted with twrp installed, guess that was the easy part? Now it opens up a whole new world
