As you may know, Google has remove App Ops on Android 4.4.2. This app helps you to bring it back
Root device only for now
What is App Ops
App Ops is an activity, within the Settings app, that allows users to enable or disable operations on a per-app basis. These operations cover many common scenarios identified by permissions (e.g., read contacts, write contacts, access location), though it is not a pure one-to-one mapping.
Operations blocked by App Ops are inaccessible by the affected app, though that may vary by device.
Toggle-able permissions
- Access notifications
- Alarm volume
- Audio focus
- Bluetooth volume
- Call phone
- Camera
- Draw on top
- Keep awake

Ver 1.0

It's weird that this thread has no activity.. it's a proper mod tbh.
After clicking to "Install AppOps Root", the device reboots, but nothing seems to change. Starting the Installer again still shows the same message: "Click to install AppOps Root..."
If I click "Launch Stock App Ops", I see Settings that promptly closes.
I am rooted and running a 4.4.2 ROM.
What am I missing?
App is working great. But can you please change the Icon in the drawer? It is really hard to see with this dark grey color

Not for me.
I have run through installation twice and didn't see any errors.
I just got prompted to d/l new firmware for my note 3 today. and after hearing they took this out. I declined it! keeping an eye on this, hopefully there will be a way to bring this back for non rooted devices. as my phone is only 2 months old. and I wana wait 4-6 months to make sure its not faulty B4 I go rooting it. plus there arent enough stable ROMS for note 3 anyway. I like Wanam as its stock ish without bloat. so waiting for wanam!
Reboot after install
Im using CM11.0 and the phone reboots after I click "Install AppOps Root" but seems to work fine with the "Lauch Stock AppOps" option.
Good job. Thank you.
Works great for me running Stock 4.4.2 on Nexus 5.
Can i use this app with ART?

thanks developer
Awesome. I was looking for something like this.
As this changes this system files can we uninstall if we want? I have not installed it yet

It only installs one apk in /system/priv-app/
If you are rooted and have titanium backup or other toolbox you can easily uninstall it (titanium can uninstall system apps); second easiest option is to use ES File Explorer or other root file manager; other ways include adb shell commands (mount / rm), and finally another method that actually doesn't require root is via custom recovery that has a builtin file manager like twrp does... you would mount /system and delete the apk from /system/priv-app

Thanks have titanium backup installed, will just use that if I want to uninstall, good to know for other root apps that I might use in the future
:good:
How does this compare to the likes of XPrivacy. It appears this completely denies the permission which would cause certain apps to crash vs providing random false data.

XPrivacy is way more powerful and allows you to revoke many more permissions, but App Ops although limited, works quite well. You cannot remove network access with it, but I removed location, contacts, vibrate, camera, from some apps, and none crashed so far. I've been using App Ops since it was introduced in Jelly Bean, and still do in KitKat.

I still get a quick reboot and nothing else.
On 4.4.2, rooted and have given the app SuperUser privileges.

If it works, you should see a new app named "App Ops [Root]" in your app drawer. Anyway, which is your ROM?
Hi, i am trying to make a run script action in tasker to use the settings binary to change font_scaling only while in one particular app, so i need actually more help with the settings binary itself than tasker, as i do know what is needed on the tasker side, but i cant get the command to work in terminal.
If i do
settings get system font_scaling
response is 1.0 if it is set to standard in system settings, but if i try to
settings put system font_scaling= 1.3
like it is set if i switch to big fonts in system settings and then do the get again it is still set to 1.0 and the font is small. So i thought i need to do something like
settings --user current put system font_scaling= 1.3
but that didnt work as well, also if i replace "current" with the user id o get from whoami while not being root, it just doesnt work, but i am pretty sure that it has to do with the user id or the way i specify the user id. Would be cool if someone who has used the settings binary a bit more can give me a hint.

Hello,
i never had problems using Netflix on all my other phones/devices. Even if rooted (actually, all my devices are rooted).
But on my S8+, netflix starts fine, i can login, but as soon as i play a movie, i get a message (in German):
"Es ist ein Problem mit der Wiedergabe des Videos aufgetreten. Bitte versuchen Sie es erneut (5.2)"
There is a problem playing this movie 5.2.
Downloading of the movie works fine, but playing back the downloaded movie also does not work. Error:
"Es liegt ein Problem mit der Videodatei vor (102.2.6)
Problem with the video file.
I already signed out, cleaned all the storage, uninstalled, reinstalled -> same error!
Reinstalled my phone using the new stock firmware(rooted again using magisk)
Now i can't find Netflix anymore in the playstore. Already deleted data&cache for Playstore and rebooted-> now Certified
In Magisk, Safetynet is Green (OK)
Restored Netflix from Titanium backup -> can download, but playing (stream&download) still NOK.
Anyone else got this problem?

Have you tried using Netflix before rooting again?
No, but on a friend's S8+ it works fine (without root)
Btw: Does supersu root work with the S8+, or only magisk?
I had the same problem but deleting liboemcrypto.so in system/libs/ fixed it
Unfortunately, after a complete Stock reinstall without root, and Developer mode, oem unlock & usb debug disabled, Netflix is not found anymore in Playstore! Device certification is uncertified..
After Playstore Data&cache deleted, restart phone, still no netflix, but also the field "Device certification" is not there anymore. No info about certification.
ALL updates are installed.
PDA G955FXXU1AQDG
CSC G955FOXM1AQDG
Before, i had:
PDA G955FXXU1AQDD
CSC G955FOXM1AQDD
Is it possible to downgrade, and try again to the "older" firmware?
Sorry, don't know why, but after some times, netflix is available again in the playstore. Installed, and playback OK (without root, dev mode, oem unlock and usb debug disabled)
Now rooted again (with supersu SR3), and no netflix in playstore..... (also restore every app at the beginning did not install netflix.)
Edit:

Yup seems Netflix is now blocked for rooted users.

i had that issue 2 days ago...uncertified playstore=no netflix.
if u have a uncertied in playstore restore to stock lock oem in options again then do a full factory reset and then ull be able to get certified in playstore to find netflix in search.
now if u root again ull not be allow to download netflix from playstore i think u can still install it as normal apk.
I am stock and I have uncertified play store and I see Netflix and everything works.

This. It is count to be a new policy for them do to restrictions with there licensing for movies. It might be good to hold off on rooting it you use Netflix. It may become like Samsung Pay where it will no longer work if you are rooted. Even on magisk
Maybe related or not - but i have similair issues with Amazon Prime video and NEtflix
- I am rooted - using jeese's first twrp image
i've encountered the following:
- stream netflix video - no problem
- download netflix watch offline - not possible - error: there is a problem wit the video file 102.2.6
- watch amazon prime streaming or downloaded - not possible: error code: decryption failure
i tried removing the liboemcrypto.so script
any thoughts on how to fix
anything to do with the forced disabling of decryption during installation of twrp and rooting?
Netflix works fine on root with Magisk and MagiskSU, although I'm unsure if that extends to SuperSU. If you're just using Magisk(SU), use a root browser to delete liboemcrypto.so and it will work as another user has pointed out further up. I can confirm this worked for me at least.
Could it be detecting root with SuperSU? I had to reflash my stock boot.IMG and remove SuperSU to access another app that was blocking access because it was still detecting root. I neglected to try with Netflix with SuperSU installed but could it potentially be the culprit?

How did you delete it bro? Whenever i try to delete it i get the message operationele failed in root explorer

I used ES File Explorer. Give it a try if you want. When you download it, click on the hamburger (option) menu and enable an option labelled "Root Explorer". Then navigate to the file in question and delete. Fair warning, the app is a bloated ad filled turd these days. Probably better off using a better app than the current version if you plan on using it long term.
Here's why Netflix no longer works on rooted or unlocked devises. There's a way around it though.

bei mir geht netflix perfekt, habe es von einem Backup installiert und alles klappt.
on my phone (s8) netflix is working perfectly. I have restored the apk from a backup
my phone is rooted and runing the renovated ice rom
Had the same problem, now solved.
Google Play showed uncertified, even after hiding SU with magisk. After erasing Google Play data it turned certified.
Despite that, Netflix still didn't play videos (error 5.2)
Then erased liboemcrypto.so in system/lib/ using ES File Explorer (Total Commander couldn't erase it for some reason so I installed ES for 5 minutes to do the job and then unisnstalled it - too many ads).
Netflix then had some weird behaviour after that so I reinstalled it and videos now play with no problem.
I read somewhere (think it was on reddit), that netflix closed someone's account due to "illegally" watching streams using a non certified device !?

Don't believe everything you read.
I only use netflix to stream to chromecast. That still works fine. Do you all watch it on your phone?
In earlier Android Version (e. g. CM) I can open a list, which Apps have the permissions and rights for auto boot during start the phone. I could enable or disable the right of the apps on an easy way.
In Pie (XZP) I didn't found anymore this list. I can open each app after the other and must tap in to the enhanced permissions to see, if the Apk starts at boot up or not. But I can not change this one.
Does I haven't found the point in the settings or how I can change this one?
In the appstore the boot manager all for older version and/or doesn't work anymore with Orego and later. In the Dev menu I can only stop a running Service, but this is only temporary.

xXx no limits rom you can uninstall system apps with the profile included

No need for other roms or a computer.
Just a magisk module and the Android terMinal emulator.
The module is the "debloater".

Es file explorer or Titanium Backup can. (ofcourse you need root)
Or you could use Tomatot's script.
trying all this method but not working

I usually use this Magisk module but as the name dictates, Magisk is required: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-terminal-debloater-debloat-t3584163
