update with a rooted Mate 8 - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am on rooted stock B331 and I just received an update to B356 (492 MB). If I acceot the OTA will the bootloader get locked? I know I will most likely loose root and twrp. I'd like to updated but not get locked again. Any advice?
Or should I flash the image file in TWRP along with insecure boot?
If anybody has gone this route please advice. Thanks

huh? thats new! here i thought that once u unlock bootloader and root u dont receive ota updates anymore! how is that possible?!
in any case, whats the big deal about bootloader getting locked? u just unlock it again using your code via fastboot, no problem then flash twrp and supersu, done!

Yeah, I know it is wierd. My bootloader is unlocked, I'm rooted and have twrp installed and received the B356 OTA this morning.
I was hopping to dirty flash so I don't have to go through all the setup process again

true, unlocking BL again would mean that your phone would be reset...

You can still do OTA'S with an unlocked bootloader. You should be able to OTA but it may remove root or fail in the process because of root. I always recommend backing up the stock rom in TWRP so you can always go back to it to take an OTA. Fastboot flash the stock rom you're on and the stock recovery then boot up and take the OTA then fastboot flash twrp again.

I have also received the notification for b357 and I am on stock rooted b356...sounds fishy, I am not updating

I'd love it if anybody could make a flashable zip rooted B356 or 357 rom to be safe.

[Q] Back to stock

I was running cm12 on my nexus 5 and I had unlocked the boot loader and was asking xposed framework aplha version .
But then I decided to go back to stock android and I flashed the flashed the factory image of android 5.1 build number lmy47I . I wiped the data and even relocked the boot loader and now my phone is running smoothly and is on stock android.
But is there a way by which I can check if I flashed it correctly or not?
I mean nothing is broken but I heard android 5.1.1 update is around the corner so I was worried will I be able to apply the ota
Huh what? If it booted and is running smoothly its fine. If you didnt mod anything you'll get the ota
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
If you've flashed the factory image and everything is stock you should be fine for the OTA!
Thanks for the help
Lol....
You didn't need to relock the bootloader though. I tend to not ever want to relock it after unlocking it since that's about he only way you could potentially brick the device I think (Like if you relocked the bootloader and then for some reason the phone would not boot or something I am not sure how you'd unlock the bootloader again but whatever)

Good to know. Btw, can you tell me, I'm on stock 5.1 unlocked bl, twrp, rooted. Will I be able to apply 5.1.1 over OTA when it comes out ?

I can not flash any .img files after updating to B103, Is there any solution ?

Hi,,
When I received my device I got an update to L29 B103, after that I unlocked boot-loader..
Now, I can not re-lock or flash any .img files like twrp or boot images...
Is there any solution to this??
did u do anything else aside from unlocking the bootloader? flash twrp? root? flash any other rom?
if so, and uve tried relocking the bootloader when ure NOT 100% stock, then youre out of luck, the bootloader gets stuck in a kind of lock/unlock limbo...

Recevied an update with rooted phone, is it safe to update ?

I'm currently on NXT-29C185B190 and I received update with NXT-29C185B1200, my phone is unlocked and rooted, I have flash fire installed and it recognized that update was downloaded.
My question is flash fire have big red huawei device warning, saying Huawei device is very easy to hard brick (also my mate 8 is my first locked bootloader phone) so is it safe to use flash fire ? or install update throught huawei system without losing root ?

Is this an EMUI update through the standard update menu in settings - updater?
The version seems a bit odd to me, the last update for C185 was B320, I wouldn't expect an official update to jump as high as that. Mind uploading a screenshot?
Anyway, as for actually updating, as long as you are running stock recovery (not TWRP) then it shouldn't be an issue. Just know that you WILL lose root after updating. And I'd strongly suggest making a data backup before the update.

I'm currently on B190 and I got update to B200.

I have twrp installed so that means I can't update at all ?
Plz i want to know how to return to the normal situation after root and unlock bootloader in order to receibe update without problem

Well if you unlocked bootlader and rooted, it safe to say that you have TWRP installed, fire up SRKToolHuawei choose (2)install recovery then install stock recovery after that it reboots and then update using system updater from huawei.
PS: You will lose your root access and new to install TWRP then root again.

Updating to EMUI5, Rooted/Unlocked Bootloader

Hey guys - So i have a bootloader unlocked Honor 8. I just got a pop up saying EMUI5 update is available. What should i do get this installed? Do i just update ti via OTA or do i have to flash stock, lock bootloader and then update via OTA? Is there a reliable guide somewhere where i can refer to/look at? Any help/links are really appreciated!
no need to relock the bootloader , it will lock the loader .just simply update

You have to rollback. Lets the system updates via clean OS.
I guess your updates showing 1.39gb?
You can read my post from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/news-emui-5-0-starts-to-roll-to-honor-8-t3553992
Flash the stock recovery. If you update while using TWRP, it will fail.

SAFE rooting to HUAWEI MATE 9

hi guys ,
I`ve read this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-how-to-root-mate-9-decrypt-data-t3569986
my ask : Does this rooting goes well with MHA-L29C185B172 ?
if not , then how can i root my device SAFELY ?
thanks all
one, post, no experience with rooting android phones, do NOT root this phone unless there is some important reason to.
do ALOT more reading before you even think about rooting
Thx to reply. Like the others i wanna root to have root apps in my phone ,
Thx . Wanna have apps requires root in my phone . That simple
You don't even need to decrypt if you don't want to.
Unlock Developer Options (Settings - About: tap build number until it says it's enabled)
Go to the Developer Options and enable OEM Unlocking
Unlock bootloader
Flash twrp 3.1.0
Flash SuperSU no-decrypt (https://mega.nz/#!lkV0jbYJ!b1h-5uVksvpt7rw0tRHV7Qxjwk2xkKox0w-iRsCLlbU)
Have fun.
For decryption follow the decrypt guide.
To undo root and relock (Bootloader Locked) flash a stock firmware using the Force flash guide under Guides or use firmware finder).
For Magiskv12 root you need firmware B182+
super!!! , I did unlock the device and flashed twrp ,then tried install SU but failed , that made me afraid of bricking if i did further action

Original SuperSU 2.79 won't install. We have no loop support in kernel pre-B182. And even with support it doesn't install. The one I linked is a phh supersu hybrid. It uses phh su's method of installing, but installs SuperSU.

Hi. I just happen to come across your post and noticed you said that there is no loop support pre-B182. I have the Chinese version with B213. Some apps, like Linux on Android need, unless something has changed, loop support as well as root. Do you have a reference or a link about the loop support on this phone? Thanks!
I failed install su however still waiting for any updates

Just would like to say that it's not fair to say him that in case that the second entry said: One post on xda and he wants to root!
I think the problem is the order you gave him @ante0 (MAYBE!)
Unlock bootloader
flash TWRP
And I think he now has a BIG problem bc you DIDN'T said or forced him to go into developer settings and turn on OEM-unlock!
@nawraz did you turned on OEM-unlock in developer settings?
if you boot into fastboot mode are BOTH (bootloader and FRP = unlocked (in red letters), or and I really hoper NOT is FRP lock (in green letters)???
Maybe that is now the problem for him, not being able to flash SuperSU?
If you have luck @nawraz then try to flash TWRP 3.0.2-2 and with that SuperSU2.79
If you have root then you can install latest TWRP (3.1.0-1)
If you can't flash anything... oh oh!

He already unlocked and flashed twrp.
3.1.0 installs SuperSU fine. 3.0.3 does not.
And if oem was locked he wouldn't even be in twrp as you can't flash anything with fastboot if it is locked.
But I'll update my post in case anyone does miss to unlock oem.
Hope you don't get me wrong!
Just said that bc I had that problem 5 days ago and the only thing that helped was funky!
I had a softbrick and a reboot always kicked me into eRecovery
I just had eRecovery and fastboot!
Bootloader relocked and frp locked!
Stupid me relocked the bootloader bc I read that you then can unlock oem, then unlock bootloader again!
Well, that was a mistake!

Yeah. Only way then would be to rebrand to C636 using the DLOAD method, then rebrand back to your stock version using the Update thread under Guides. The latter requires twrp though so you'd need to rebrand first to get a working system.
To be honest I just figured he had already unlocked and flashed twrp as he was in the decrypt thread
Missing oem was an error on my side. It was long since I had to unlock oem xD

Weird. I tested with 3.1.0 a few days ago. But I guess it could have to do with builds. 3.1.0 is using kernel for B182. Maybe it's fixed if you use 3.1.0 with B182.
Oh well, good you managed to install it anyway.
Edit: I tested with the SuperSU I linked.

All I know is that it wasn't present in builds before B182.
@st_voss is the one who found out it was added in B182 (Kernel build April. 11th probably as that's what I have on B182.).
It might be present in B181 on C636 as well, that was released 8th of May.
