Just picked up a used Note Pro 12.2 P900. The SPen is not working. It does work on my Note 4 and my Note 4 pen does not work on the Note Pro.
It recognizes when the pen is removed but I can't perform any actions on screen nor can I use it to write. Any ideas?
EDIT: I can sometimes get it to recognize...if i hold it just right above the air command menu, sometimes it will select what I am pointing at.
If anyone is wondering, I only found one obscure reference to the issue. Apparently the LCD connector may be damaged. If you use the SPEN on the back or home button, it works.
I sent this back to where I bought it.

Sometimes my pen isn't recognized by my surface and I have to use the keyboard or the touch screen as the only input devices. After I place the pen in the charging holder for a little while it works fine again.
Does the pen need to be charged, or is mine just acting buggy? Anyone else having similar issues?

the pen doesn't need charging, i think it may be due to faulty digitizer, better go and have it replaced.
you may just need to calibrate it or the tip might be bad try your eraser see if that end works ok
You have to change your OS scaling from 150% (default) to 100% for pen and touch to work in ALL desktop and Metro apps. Otherwise pen and some touch functionality is broken.

How can I calibrate the pen (sorry if it's a silly question).

I recently had the pleasure of looking at my Photon Q to find a mess of cracks in what had previously been a pristine display. I have no idea how it happened, since the phone had been in my pocket for about ten minutes while I was shopping and it definitely wasn't cracked before that. My only guess is that I bumped into something while I was shopping. I'm guessing this detail is irrelevant, but I'm including it in case it's of-interest.
I've done replacement surgery on phones before, and I was in no mood to do it again so I took it to a local shop. They managed to replace it, but when it came back from the shop it was stuck in landscape mode. I checked out the accelerometer with Z-DeviceTest and it seems to be just fine. It seems like the logical culprit is that the phone always thinks the slider keyboard is open, even when it's not. I don't know how to test for this, though, and I haven't been able to find a Google search incantation that tells me anything of interest.
So my questions are: Does my diagnosis seem plausible? How does the Photon Q detect when they keyboard is open or closed? Is this something that probably got borked in the process of disassembly/reassembly? The phone is going back to the repair guy shortly because he also broke the earpiece speaker and he needs to replace it (at no charge, of course), and I demonstrated the won't-do-portrait-mode problem to him before I left the shop. Is there something along the line of "make sure that you screw the flibbertywidget into the whoozamawhatzit" information that I can give him?
Thanks in advance!
Am running cm11 and there is an option in system; dispay; to set 90,180 degrees etc.

Nah, when the keyboard is recognised as open, auto-rotate won't work.
A possible workaround is to use a terminal command to simulate keyboard open/close, but I'm not sire if it would work. I'll post the command later.

Thanks, both of you. I've confirmed my diagnosis, I think-- I've noticed that the keyboard backlight stays on even when the keyboard is closed.
Think that's normal, I us backlight off app to turn it off.
If you paid good money to get your phone fixed, may take it back and make them do it right?

In adb shell:
Code:
dumpsys window | grep mLidState
mLidState=1 means that hw keyboard is out (at least the lid sensor says so)
mLidState=0 hw keyboard is hidden

That's certainly not normal, keyboard backlight is automatically turned off when the keyboard is hidden.

Solution
This problem is caused by a small magnet being removed during repair. The magnet isn't held in place by screws or tape or anything, it just sits in a small open space between the sliding keyboard tray and the LCD display layers of the phone. The location of the magnet is on the right side of the phone if you are looking at it up-right and about an inch below the volume buttons. Without this magnet the phone thinks the keyboard is out the entire time and the screen won't rotate. Replacing the magnet requires nearly complete disassembly. I've found you can save several minutes and a headache by taking the phone apart until you get to the sliding keyboard tray and taking off the 6 or so screws on the right side, then lifting the right side several millimeters and popping the magnet in from there. This way you won't have to take off the touch screen digitizer and other fragile ribbon cables. Once the sliding keyboard tray is re-attached with screws the magnet can't go anywhere. Good Luck.
I've been noticing an interesting problem of late with my Note 5. As most of us do, I put my phone in my front pocket when it's not in use. Since the camera now activates with a double press of the home button, I'm getting the camera activated quite a bit, which is draining the battery. Has anyone found a solution to keep this from happening? Just curious.
Shut off double tap or add a case so home button is recessed

Go into the camera settings and turn it off

I don't know why I didn't see that option when I looked for it the other day. Silly me.
I just got the Note 20 Ultra today and found out that after some time of usage the Spen becomes unresponsive and responds only when pressed really hard with pressure.
I tried resetting/formatting the phone(Also tried resetting the spen),but no luck.Initailly the Spen works for a few minutes lika a charm but after some time it suddenly becomes unresponsive and the pen needs to be pressed really hard.If I reinsert the spen in the slot and remov e it back it starts working again and after sometime again it becomes unresponsive
I even tried enabling the touch sensitivity but still the problem persisits.
I am visiting the store on monday but do you guys think removing the factory appliedscreen protector will help or worth a try before going to the store?
I am really dissapointed with Sammy
No idea. But I always remove it. Like I did with the note 10. Never scratches.
Apropos I had once the spen not working.
Quick insert and pull out did help me.
Huib
SO i just figured out my SPen is faulty.I used my friends note10 spen and its working without any issue. So the culprit is Spen.
Hope they will replace it in warranty.
So Samsung service center confirmed that the spen is defective. They are arranging a replacement, although no stock spen with the service center.
First pay 1300 dollars and then run around service centers.
This really sucks, so much for premium phone support.
One day last week when i pulled my S Pen out, nothing happened.
I tried to write on the screen, nothing happened. I thought it ran out of battery, but it's always inside my phone, and battery is only used for air actions, as touch input is made magnetically.
The pen was always inside my phone, and yet it randomly prompted me "Got your S Pen? It's not inside your phone"
Then it started working again but partially, it detects when i pull it out of the phone and put it back in, but touch input is horrible and it doesn't connect wirelessly
This is weird, do any of you ever experencied something like this on S22 Ultra ?
I have never experienced something like this, only thing related happened with my note 7, the spen lagged when writing, in that case it was the spen, I bought another one and that solved the issue, with my note 10+, agter 2 years, it suddenly stopped working for air actions, but again, it was the s pen's fault, as it no longer charged, I sugest you to take your device to be checked under warranty claim
I haven't experienced it either. I suspect the pen is at fault.
Experienced that, because I dropped my phone so much times, that it wasn't operating correctly. Repaired it with warranty and bought new S Pen sadly...
