Hello anyway to root yet... - Samsung Galaxy J7 Questions & Answers

Just got my phone from bestbuy 2 days ago and was wondering if theres a way to root at the moment... its a boost mobile galaxy j7 cause it was on sale for $150 on a price match i used... seems to be a pretty good phone iam still setting everything up on it... i mostly need for my bank and to pay bills online... root wouldnt effect a banking app would it like 5th 3rd bank app... or effect paying bills online... if its going to effect my banking experience than id rather not root at all... ive known of roms to have buggy cameras and one the options in 5th 3rd banking app is to snap a photo of youre checks and it direct deposits it into youre checking or savings account so if the roms are just gonna have buggy cameras then ill stay away from them..

No. Look around next time, no one has root

New market with carousel update!

I was about to update some apps from the market when to my surprise, the market appeared to receive the New update with the carousel. To my understanding this version was just for devices running 2.2+? Anybody else have any ideas. Oh btw Im rrunning stock jh7

I got the new Market update and I'm still on the stock 2.1. There goes that theory.
Same here. I'm on a rooted NookColor and I got the new market fine.

I'd still like to know why I can't have my Market purchases billed to my AT$T account like I could with my Tilt 2.
Because its not affiliated in any way to at&t. Its Google's app store. Kind of like how appworld, iTunes and the palm app stores operate.

Well, the Windows Marketplace is not affiliated with AT$T (it is run by Microsoft), but they were able to bill AT$T for my purchases through them. I would get an e-mail receipt from Microsoft and then the charge would appear on my AT$T bill. I'm sure Google could do the same if they wanted to.
Carosel
I wish they hadn't have done it. The carosel slows down my phone. In fact, it STOPS my phone while the products for the carosel are loading, as if we didn't have enough things causing lags.

Yes i noticed it is a bit slower too. However, i just installed the One click lag fix and did all that and the market is now extremely fast for some reason. all the images in the carousel pop up almost instantly. I have come to enjoy it now with the lag fix.
Just noticed that I can now choose to have purchases billed to my wireless account. I bought an app about 5 minutes ago and selected to bill to my AT$T account. The phone has since been saying "Authorizing purchase..." without any confirmation, but at least the choice is now there.

Glad that you got the option you wanted. I am not sure about it my self as now ATT can add taxes to the app that is billed to them plus with the 15 min return on apps now, if att servers dont push it back within that time I see answering alot of why was I billed for these apps lol

I never paid any tax on purchases before, but that was on WinMo where the purchases went directly through Microsoft and were only billed to AT$T. I also liked having 24 hours to ask for a refund instead of just 15 minutes with Android. Oh well, can't have everything.

Are you on a stock ROM or custom ROM? I don't have this option yet. I am running auxura 2.5
Stock ROM. You should see an AT$T logo in front of the credit card logos. If so, then the option is in the drop-down box.

I presume carriers do not do this for free. They would be charging a percentage. This option of not having carrier bill in a reduces the overall price.

Like I said, AT$T never added anything to my purchases from Windows Marketplace and I expect they won't with Android Market. They have a vested interest in keeping us happy with our phones and if this little convenience helps with that, I'm sure they're glad to do it. Billing to the carrier account also denies the credit card company their 2.9% transaction fee.

I think what he meant is that they would take a percentage of whatever the app costs. So for example the app costed .99 then at&t would get .11 or something from that sale.

I'd say simply Calling it, and leaving a few Reward if Found Texts!
So, I do deliveries, and my phone is always in my car as the GPS is a MUST. Well, tonight, the unfortunate happened. GOt in my car, about to head home from my shift, when my stereo popped up and said failed to connect with bluetooth device. "Uh oh, i must've left my phone at work, wonder why i brought it out of my car..." Turned around, a block down the road, no such luck pairing while in the parking lot next to the small office building. "maybe it just doesn't reach this far" went inside and searched everywhere. No luck. had another employee call it form his cell. "Welcome to verizon wireless..." he hung up and tried again, same message. Third time it went to voicemail. So, i called verizon, they suspended my line, and added the ESN to the stolen list.
Well, now I am without a phone in a critical position where one is needed. Maybe I can get by for a few days without, but will slow me down alot, and my preformance based pay will be docked massively. Question is, what phone should I be looking at? I still have my upgrade eligibility, but instead of $100 credit which I earned on a more expensive plan, I only have $30. So, verizon has screwed me over. Also to find out, i have not been paying insurance all this time, when I never requested for it to be removed.
What phones should I be looking at? any new changes to verizons policies/pricing that I should watch out for?

Maybe you can install Lookout Security remotely. The free version will show you where the phone is on a pc and you can do contact backup as well as make the phone scream. I have never tried to install Lookout myself remotely so I don't know what if any responses it may ask on the phone, but I do have this app.

So, i recieved an email today while I was at work stating someone tried to change my facebook password. I rarely use facebook, but this is still a big issue. I think I may have found a way to catch the bastard who stole the phone. I hope facebook logs the IP when such an attempt occurs, including logins. How do I go about retrieving such IP?

ok so i see you listed the version number, I'm guessing that means you didn't do the newest update =/ I use my phone as my internet connection and updated foxfi because it gave me an error saying i had to update it to use it.
Now i'm stuck with a 2.51Mb limit before i have to restart foxfi, Any work arounds for this? Im not trying to spend $7 for an app thats been free this long. It strikes me as someone getting greedy, And $7 is pretty steep when i can root the phone and tether for free. Just not trying to root my S3 atm.
Thanks, and sorry i'm not trying to hijack your post just a honest question

Its cool. Lol. I wouldn't update because of the limit and felt the same way about the app being free then 7 bucks.I don't mind supporting the devs for their hard work and have many bought paid apps that I have purchased. But this just didn't seem right. But as of yesterday the old version quit working had a pop-up saying it wasn't supported and wouldn't connect. So I guess it got blocked to force you to buy if you want the program.

darn, im wondering if theres a way around it or another app. Because like you i dont mind supporting dev's and i have also bought many apps, but this isn't right its been free for this long this is someone who is just getting greedy and trying to force people into paying them money. The app had over 1million downloads, If that many people use it and he now forces them to pay 7 thats 7 million dollars. I dont blame him i wouldn't mind having 7 million but still i'm not putting in on him being greedy.
Lol you guys are spoiled. The developer has a right to ask for money for his app... People have been using something he has done on his free time for free for a long time... Who knows what is going on in his life but maybe it's reached a point where the money is needed. For what it offers, it is easily worth 7 dollars one time. The only reason i have not bought it yet is because people are reporting it doesnt work on 4.1 anyway, so we'll see.

Well i'll straight up say i'm far from spoiled, I've spent money on apps that i didn't have to just to support the devs. But when you go from "i'm doing this for the people and its free i just made it to help out" to "i'm charging 7 dollars when i've changed nothing" that just a bit greedy to me, I work hard for my money and i'm not about to just throw it at someone because they got greedy. I've done my homework downloaded a widget called hotspot toggle and i tether threw my phone's built in hotspot for free. Easy to use, turns on faster, and i haven't seen any issues with it yet. So i guess good try to the foxfi guy. Hope you guys find the hotspot toggle widget useful

Samsung Pay after Root

Hello everyone,
I've been hopping around, trying to do some research on this but decided to make a post to confirm and also in hopes of informing others.
Is it true that once rooting the Note 5, we permanently lose Samsung Pay abilities due to tripping the KNOX meter?
Thanks!
Yes, the way Samsung designed Samsung pay is to make it as secure as possible, and unfortunately that includes blocking access on modded devices. Is there a way around this? I belive it would have to involve tricking Knox and I don't think it will be easy.
With that said, the galaxy s6 had a root that didn't trip knox. Even still, had to be extremely careful after that with flashing roms and such but it was b possible.
It's really the only thing that's going to make me think twice about rooting.
Sent from my SM-N920T using XDA Free mobile app
Indeed. I know there are alternatives like PayPal but what about Android Pay? Will we still be able to use that as an alternative, after root?
I dug around the Korean Samsung pay apk that's floating around and I found where it's doing that check, it's just a matter of disabling it and seeing it it works. Also, the string says something to the effect of "this application won't work on rooted devices for security, please unroot your device to use Samsung pay". Notice it says unroot. We'll see what the reality is when we get our hands on the final US apk.

This is my only concern at this point. While I don't know for sure how much if at all I'll be using Samsung Pay, I don't want to root and trip Knox quite yet so I can at least try it when it's released.
You guys are exactly in my situation. I want root but i think samsung pay might be a nice feature.. speacially sonce it works anywhere eith a card reader, not just tap and go.. only if they swipe only. Some how samsung pay still works... thats awesome

What about if we used root cloak and or Xprivacy on xposed to hide detection of root or somthing? Maybe somone needs to create an app like root cloak that his the detection of it checking if you tripped Knox? Also why is everyone so worried about Samsung Pay Google Wallet allows you to use the app on rooted debices and it does the NFC paying and they send you a physical debit card. You can even send money to people through the app too.
Does Samsung Pay have some extra cool feature that Google Wallet Doesn't? I'm just asking cause I haven't looked into Samsung Pay. In my opinion if a pay system app can't be used on r root I'm not sure if I trust the app because they might think it will be hacked but they need to make it secure on all aspects.
I've been accepted into Samsung Pay beta testing and unfortunately since I've tripped knox this is what happens. I have the apk files for both the app and framework.

I agree 1,000%. Google Wallet is accepted at a lot of places and works well while rooted. If I have to part with Samsung Pay to 1) Turn the camera shutter sound off on my phone via Root Explorer...2) Disable a bunch of Samsung bloat I don't use...3) Have the ability to back up my apps and data as well as restore them...4)Customize my phone using XPosed and Wanam on a deodexed stock rom...etc, then it's not even a close trade off. I'm going with root 3 times out of 4.

Yes, Samsung Pay uses MST (magnetic secure transmission), aka the tech they acquired from LoopPay. This allows you to use your phone to pay at terminals, even if they don't have NFC. It'll emulate the magnetic field created when you physically swipe your card. So, basically it'll work in most places that Google Wallet (or Apple Pay) won't.
Sure, you can just use the Google Wallet card, but if you have it connected to multiple accounts, it's not always easy to remember which one is set as default or to change on the fly the one you want to use. At least with Samsung Pay & the Wallet app, I can choose my card on the fly.
I'm in the beta and raring to go. Sadly my BoA debit card was compromised earlier in the week and so I have to wait for the new one to arrive before I can test.

So I too have been accepted to the beta for Samsung pay. The only issue is I don't have any qualifying debit or credit cards to add because they don't have that many the day except at this time which is kind of dumb. But you spoke of LoopPay and I had also read that Samsung had acquired that or something like that so I checked in Google Play and sure enough LoopPay is still there so I thought hey if they have this cool feature where you can just use existing card readers and phone acts as a magnetic strip and seeing how the new Samsung phones have a feature built in and that it's possible that it works if you're rooted or if it doesn't it probably just checks for root and in theory you could just use root cloak to hide your route for the app so I thought why not download LoopPay.
So I downloaded Lupe installed it I'm verified my information but then when I go to add cards it says you currently don't have a connecting device to add a card because with LoopPay it requires you to buy a fob that plugs in to where the 3.5 mm or you can also use a card reader in the 3.5 mm which costs around 40 or 50 bucks. If the LoopPay hardware is built into our devices why does it ask me to have these add ons hooked into the 3.5 mm? Why would they do this? that seems pretty stupid if you ask me.
Maybe they can update LoopPay to not have to have the additional hardware that you need to buy. As far as what I've been saying about the app there's no information in Google Play saying that they are emerging over the Samsung pay for that the apps closing but I could be or they just haven't released anything yet. But it would be kind of a stupid move to murder / to Samsung pay for everyone because not everybody has a Samsung device and won't be able to use samsung pay so maybe that's why is not changing or merging.

Oh that makes sense, bring your Sprint device into a T-Mobile thread and complain
On a serious note, it seems like Sprint takes out quite a few features, kinda sucks. A simple feature for muting the shutter sound? Why remove?

Actually I was just speaking in general as far as people justifying why they root. Its pretty universal as far as what you can and can't do. ?
I actually haven't owned a Samsung device where you could turn the shutter sound off for Sprint. The last one I could was the HTC EVO LTE. Its an easy fix once rooted though. My Gear 2 had no shutter sound option either. I had to root it in order to turn it off. Its something about privacy or something like that. I can easily turn the volume on my Ringer to silent and it will remedy that problem.

Getting my ‎note 20 ultra international (SM-N986B) saterday and thinking about getting back into the root scean.

So back in the day I used to root all my phones. HTC one, HTC one m9, some old LG phone, all of my Samsung notes and anything ni could get my hands on. I loved and died by the venom roms for anything I could put them on. Recently I started looking back Into the scean and it seems like it's not as popular anymore. That being said is it really worth rooting the note 20 ultra once I get it? I could care less about Samsung pay but I do need access to my bank account, PayPal and so on. I read about a work around for the saftynet thing and wanted to know if that was indeed still possible, if so what good roms are there now? I'm upgrading from my note 10+ from att that's Sim unlocked so I'm excited to be able to root again after all these years but want to make sure it's still worth it.

So back in the day I used to root all my phones. HTC one, HTC one m9, some old LG phone, all of my Samsung notes and anything ni could get my hands on. Yes you can use close to any app with Magisk Zygisk Deny List + Universal SafetyNet Fix.
Is root still worth it? Nobody can answer this but you.
AdBlock, GMSDoze, Debloat and other Mods are enough to justify root for me.
Is it enough for you? IDK

That's fair, imo it still is but I'm still stuck on where to find decent roms. Before there was a lot of options but from what I gathered it's a very niche market that still makes roms.

Its a niche by now on many phones. I think samsung is closed too much but they are very good out of the box. You have to seperate a lot if you like to have custom roms. OnePlus before the 8 series or the pixel series are a very good choice. I guess "Nothing" will be good in the future too.
