TWRP not flashing anything other than B180 - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone
Thanks in advance for reading this. I'm having another issue here which has me stumped.
As mentioned in my other thread, I'm having issues with the wifi hotspot on this B180 ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/development/rom-stock-b162-rooted-t3336931
So I tried to flash other roms available in the forum through TWRP (Wipe then Install) however whenever I try to flash any other ROM; TWRP just boots me back into the main menu.
So Now i'm flashed back into the above ROM and the WIFI issue still persists.
Am I doing something wrong here to make TWRP not flash any other ROM other than the one mentioned above?
Thank you again for all the help
Eddie

If you're trying to flash B320 over your B180 with TWRP that won't work properly.
Grab the correct firmware package for your device here and flash the stock recovery for your device (you can put TWRP back later)
Store the update.app file in sdcard/dload/update.app
Dial *#*#2846579#*#* and choose option 4 for software upgrade
Once successfully updated to B320 you can then install the latest version of TWRP 3.0.2 for EMUI4.1 and reap the benefits

Thank you @MuPp3t33r

@MuPp3t33r I just tried doing that and all it does is boot me into TWRP. Am I missing something? Thanks

At which point does it send you back to TWRP? Was it when you dialled the number to upgrade? If so that means you haven't flashed the stock recovery yet. You will need to use fastboot to flash recovery.img from the stock rom in the same way you originally flashed TWRP.
The recovery.img can be extracted using Huawei Update Extractor if you don't have it, otherwise let me know and I can upload a copy for you...

@MuPp3t33r I figured it out, I used SRK tool to flash OEM Recovery then flashed to 180 then to 320. I then went back and flashed TWRP 3.0.2 and then wiped and tried to install the following ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/development/rom-simply-google-t3311395
TWRP keeps saying "Zip FIle is Corrupt!"

Update: got it fixed. figured out it was a corrupted SD Card! Thanks everyone

Nope! WiFi issue persists with every rom I've tried! I'm about to flush it down the toilet haha

[Q] Bricked?

I've been in the samsung family for so long that I didn't realize how different flashing can be. I broke my phone so I bought a Moto G. Rooted it right away with only a little trouble. I installed a Lollipop ROM afterward and couldn't get my phone to boot. Guess who forgot to do a backup of the stock ROM? Yay me... but anyway, I found a stock file and went through all the steps in the screenshot. Each time, I got the okay to move on and I assumed I had the stock file flashed. Upon rebooting, I stay at the "warning, bootloader is unlocked" and phone doesn't go any further. I'm not booting up at all and custom recovery is gone now.
Can anyone help? I'm at my wit's end.
Thanks in advance.

Follow this step by step. I did it twice. If your phone boots, it is more than likely recoverable. Once you get everything sorted out and are ready to flash a custom ROM, I recommend Carbon ROM (personal preference).
The lollipop ones are still shaky. I would try em out but they truly aren't daily drivers yet

Another thought. You have your bootloader unlocked. You can flash the TWRP image through fastboot. Then you can flash the "flashable zip" stock firmware

That's actually the instructions I used to try to flash back to stock. But when it reboots, it never gets past the warning about bootloader. I can get the TWRP recovery back but from there is there another way to flash the "flashable zip"? With Samsung I could always use ODIN but I don't think it works with Moto G. I can't get the zip to internal storage to flash it.
Thanks for the reply by the way I'm going to try it one more time I think....

Flashable stock zips. I don't have a PC to do a full reset. But with TWRP and the flashable stock zip I have had absolutely no problem.
If all else fails I would give it a shot
I have the xt 1032 cricket/aio. I am using stock "us retail" and it works just fine. If you have radio issues etc there is also a repository of flashable radio images

I hate sounding dumb... but how will I flash the zip if I can't get it on my phone?
Get back TWRP custom recovery by booting your phone into bootloader and flash via fastboot. You can get the .IMG file for the falcon from their website latest version is 2.8.5.0
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/233
Then simply install the corresponding stock flashable zip

Quick question. When I go into recovery to flash the zip, do I go to 'advanced' and then ' terminal command'? and go from there? I feel like a noob and I've flashed dozens of roms...
To flash a zip, choose the install option, find the name of the zip, select it, swipe to install it.

The problem is that I didn't make a backup. When I tried flashing back to stock using fastboot everything was wiped. I don't even have the original custom ROM that started the whole mess. The stock file flashed but phone won't boot. I never get passed the boot loader warning screen. I did everything to the tee (following the directions that BBobby posted above. Actually did it twice. Isn't there an ODIN type deal for this phone. Brand new and I've broke it dangit.
Oh and I can't get into the phone to enable us debugging.
There is rsd lite but it may not help. Odin doesn't help if you can't enter download mode too. Usb debugging isn't require to flash a rom or install recovery.
It sounds like your phone is not booting because of the bootloade or the data partition is messed up.
I can get into bootloader and I have TWRP installed and can boot into it. I'm starting to think it's a lost cause. Thanks though y'all.

I also got similar problem as yours. I have xt1033 dual sim phone and i had flashed lollipop 5.0.2 soak version. When official update was released for xt1033 i got back to kitkat 4.4.4 to download ota. But when i flashed kitkat through fastboot it got stuck on unlocked bootloader screen. Only solution i got still is converting to gpe. Only Gpe firmware boots. Im still finding solution for bootloop
You can get into TWRP? What happens when you use it to flash a custom ROM?

I originally flashed a custom ROM but it never would get past the loading screen. I went through all the steps to flash back to stock and now all my data is gone. The ROM I had in my download folder is gone as is all my other info. So I get into TWRP but there's nothing in my phone I can flash.

I've flashed dozens, probably hundreds of ROMs in the past and never ran into such an issue. Custom ROM seemed to take, but got stuck. So I used fastboot and followed the directions to the tee in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
When the ROM is finished flashing (stock that is) it never gets past the bootloader warning screen. If I could just get a zip onto the phone, I could flash through TWRP but I have no idea how to or if it's even possible.
Cwm have a option "sdcard mount" via usb. I dont remember the specific option but you can mount your device and connect it to a computer.

The moto g just needs to do a wipe. Advanced wipe is not necessary. Then install the zip from the folder. By the way you can flash from USB otg (USB storage device such as a flash drive)
I fixed it!!!

update to latest OTA and recovery issue

HI all, I have CM12 installed on my rooted phone and this morning when I switched it on, I got a message saying:
"WARNING: Update Cyanogen recovery is disabled. This may cause issues with updating your device. Please enable Update Cyanogen recovery in developer options"
Now, that option is off because I have my custom recovery TWRP installed on the phone, I'd like to keep that and I don't want to reinstall it after the update, so I believe I should ignore the message, but what I wanted to check with you guys is whether ignoring it will in fact cause any issues as this is the first time ever I've seen this message (this update by the way I think is the first one after installing CM12).
Any idea?
thanks
Disregard the message.
Thanks Heisenberg,
I did that but when the phone restarts trying to install the update, it goes straight into recovery mode (TWRP) and from there I don't think I can install the update, as none of the options seem to allow me to do so, see screenshot http://s23.postimg.org/6d6s7wyq3/IMG_20150625_135453.jpg
All right, I downloaded the zip from here http://cyanogen-ota-bacon.somee.com/ and tried to flash it from TWRP, but I get an error, screenshot here http://s28.postimg.org/zb06wtcpp/OTA_error.jpg, any idea why?
Same here, got an error in TWRP logs that prevented the update to install.
I'd like to avoid reflashing stock recovery only to install the update...
Heres the log: http://s29.postimg.org/njqqqlfc7/Screenshot_2015_06_25_08_49_42.png
Seems something related to outdated "build fingerprint" my device has currently 12.0-YNG1TAS17L
I guess the alternative would be to do it thru Cyanogen Recovery, but let's see what more knowledgeable members have to say as, like you, I don't want to have to reinstall TWRP and SU just for the sake of the update
Looks like you cant use the official update with TWRP. Either flash it via cyanogen recovery then flash back TWRP, or use a differnt zip for update not the official
Thanks for clarifying that davebugyi, then so be it, I'll do it thru cyanogen recovery and then reflash TWRP and probably SU as well
thanks

Apparently even by enabling cyanogen recovery, I still can't get the updated installed as the phone keeps rebooting in the TWRP recovery, which is very odd.

flashing the 5.0 update on my k1 with flashfire

hey guys i got the update this morning on my stock rooted k1 and tried to flash with flashfire, it went through fine and i kept twrp and root, but after a half an hour it rebooted and was stuck in a bootloop so i used my marshmallow backup i made with twrp to get my tablet back working.
has anyone else had this problem or how has everyone else got to nougat?
You are not alone. However, if you had AC Adapter plugged in, thats the main cause for boot loops.
I also wrote a little guide get rid of that. Maybe it helps you as well to get it to work.

No problem! Also thank you GtrCraft for blob!
Same issue here, same fix worked. (just step 4) Thanks all.
hey guys this worked for me the blob file has everything in check, so when (or if) the next update comes can you just use flashfire again or do we need a new blob file?
For explaining... Flashfire got some problems with flashing bootloader... so you have to flash blob manualy. I think new blob is needed only with new major Android update 6.0 > 7.0 etc... So it should be ok to just use Flashfire with small ROM updates. But I suggest flashing always new blob if new version is released... Hope Flashfire will fix that issue in the future! GL

XT1254 Won't boot to system after factory reset

Hi,
I have a VZW Quark that's been unlocked with Sunshine and rooted and running fine on custom ROM's for a year. Today I did a factory reset and complete wipe and reinstalled RR Rom and GApps etc. However, on reboot, it only goes back to recovery (TWRP 3.1.1-0). I faced this the last time as well and managed to find the fix by googling it but can't seem to get to it now. It was a quick fix and then it booted to system fine and I cannot remember it. Can anyone help! Thanks.

Someone else had this issue and they solved it by flashing the latest @bhb27 modded TWRP. You say you have TWRP 3.1.1, but is it from the TWRP website or from @bhb27? Flash this one below to make sure.
twrp-3.1.1-mod_2-quark.img
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=39562
Once they flashed it, they were able to boot to system, then they booted back to TWRP (on purpose) -- and then upon subsequent reboots everything was fine.

The best suggestion I can give you is to flash stock oos with TWRP, reboot to stock recovery, without flashing anything else, wipe data from stock recovery and startup system.. if it is working you can flash back TWRP and magisk if you need it
Just be careful because at your point is easy to lose all of your stored data

If you wipe system, then flash oos ROM, TWRP will think there is no os. You can just ignore and boot.
Wiping system then flashing any time will make twrp display "no os installed" it does this because it hasn't created files for twrp to check if you have a ton installed. Flashing twrp then rebooting to twrp fixes it.
Reboot to stock recovery?

Hi, need a little bit of support, since I'm new to this as well. I was in a working OOS open beta 25/28, but then I think I flashed the wrong zip (OOS 9.0.9?), and I was not able to boot to system. It kept going to "bootloader unlocked" screen and custom recovery. Currently in TWRP blu_spark 3.3.1-x v. 9.109, and it's showing me no OS installed when I attempt to reboot. I haven't rebooted to system yet.
All the folders in my /sdcard is gibberish... if I try to push a file to it, it says "Required key not available." I did remove all security/passwords from my phone before doing any updates/backups.
I completed a wipe cache/dalvik/system via TWRP, and flashed the OOS OTA stable Android 10 zip downloaded directly from OnePlus Support. Considering this situation, do you still think it's safe for me to reboot to system? Then how do I get to stock recovery from there--is that by holding down the buttons?

No, your internal storage Is like trash cause the last rom you flashed has older security patch than oos10. Your device Is now encrypted and wont boot to system. I Guess you have to erase all via MSN tool or fastboot signed rom. Even if you wiped what mentioned above, your problem still be the data.
Fastboot method?

Thank you for replying. I'm relieved that you know of a couple methods to try.
Is using "Format Data" in TWRP an option for dealing with the encryption??
For the MSN tool, can I use this one? Tried looking around, but it's unclear. "[TOOL] MsmDownloadTool V4.0 International (Oxygen OS 5.1.5)" https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...wnloadtool-v4-0-international-t3798892/page10
I would be more comfortable with using fastboot, but am I at any risk of having lost fastboot, or can I just turn off my device from TWRP right now and hold down the buttons to get there? Afraid to move out of TWRP right now, in case I can't get back. I do have twrp-3.3.1-18-enchilada-Q-mauronofrio.img that I can run from fastboot if needed.
By "signed rom," do you mean I can simply flash one of the zips here from fastboot? "[OnePlus 6][ROM][OTA][Oxygen OS] Mirrors for official Oxygen OS ROMs and OTA updates" https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/oneplus-6-mirrors-official-oxygen-os-t3792244

Thanks again.

I hardbricked my device about 10 times and i was able to recovery It even from a blank screen. Btw format data Will erase all your data but also the internal storage. About fastboot dont be afraid, go under twrp reboot section and reboot to bootloader. Then go under xda op6 guide section and search for mirrors for fastboot rom guide by Mauronofrio. He pushed my ass out the **** a lot of time.
P.s. Sorry but I dunno how to paste a link via xda app. Yes, ik! It's a vert newbie thing.

Thank you for replying. I'm relieved that you know of a couple methods to try.
Is using "Format Data" in TWRP an option for dealing with the encryption??

That's awesome, I'm starting to grasp how much of a genius Mauronofrio is, after so many people referencing his work.
In his guide, he says, "These ROMs can't be used to update or downgrade your phone but just to restore your phone, so don't use them to come back to oreo or to update from oreo to pie." This may be a dumb question, but how do I know which zip/OOS version to flash, when I don't have a functioning OS on my phone?

I talked with Mauronofrio in pm and he said me that you could solve your issue simply flash the ROM you want and format data after flash that one. Remember that your internal will be wiped but it would happen in any scenario we talked.
Magisk, boot img?

That worked! And starstruck that you were able to check that with him. I flashed Mauronofrio's fastboot ROM for 10.3.2 and it rebooted (WOW). I clicked through the Google setup pages and checked that my data and wifi worked.
I then went back into fastboot, booted M's twrp img, fomatted data, and then installed twrp-3.3.1-x_blu_spark_v9.109_op6.zip, rebooted into recovery.
Then I think I made a mistake, because I installed Magisk-v20.4.zip. It succeeded, but now I can't boot into system anymore. Is it too late to flash the 10.3.2 boot.img?

I ended up following the guide to Magisk Root without TWRP for OnePlus 6 Oxygen OS https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/patched-boot-image-magisk-16-7-beta-t3818853 since it was referenced by Mauronofrio's post for having issues getting his TWRP to work with latest Magisk.
Someone posted a patched boot.img for 10.3.2, so now I'm rooted without TWRP. Priorities. Now all I need is for special characters and emojis to work Will keep an eye on other threads.
I'm learning a lot, thanks so much for all your help. You pointed me in the right direction when I was not sure what the hell to do!
