[Q] Ram usage.

I am currently running stock with franco kernel 32...
i always see that my ram consumption is always very high about 1 gb...
i have auto sync off and by using gravity box module i often clear all the apps but still i get this high ram usage.. the apps i use are mostly paid version and dont have adds. I use greenify as well but still usage is high..
in my cached processes google search and aosp keyboard consume around 100 mb of memory
will this affect my battery life.?
pls can someone help?

Don't worry. Android uses as much ram as it can. Unless you're seeing performance issues if just leave it alone.

Nothing abnormal to have about 1Gb used (there was a thing about RAM usage in the last version if I remember right, but not with R32 so...).
Maybe not necessary to clear often the recent apps (nor useful).
Nothing to worry about your battery life.
You apps stays in memory for faster use, let Android manage its ram, with 2Gb (a bit less for user/app) it's enough...

Ram is supposed to be used. The old adage "free ram is useless ram" applies here.
The ram device itself will use power as all components will however, it is "always on" it doesn't matter if its 1MB or 1GB.... it's same power regardless.

@rootSU thanks u! ya i had heard that in linux as opposed to conventional windows belief its rather that free ram is wasted ram.. so even if i start a game a high requirement one the OS will do the job itself?

Re,
No, what I mean is let your apps currently running like they are, in the recent apps. If a day you are really very low in memory for whatever reason (like 200-300Mb free for example) and you experience lags, reboot ant it's fine. But Android will do the necessary before (unless a "huge memory leak" like we have seen or some wrong memory management settings caused by a "RAM manager app" or some "magic RAM script").
My opinion was not about Greenify in particular, I have no opinion about it... If you need or want to hibernate them, do it, for the other apps, leave them running

If you want post some screenshots of your apps running and cache process to see, but with what you said it seems that there is nothing wrong...

ya there is nothing wrong... its just that I am probably being a bit too curious for no reason...
i shall leave it to the OS memory management..I just checked there's no rogue app consuming memory.. the ones which are running seem quite justified!:good:

ps. this applies to pretty much all desktop OS's as well as mobile in the past 10 years or so.. linux, windows, osx etc.. 90% ram usage or more should be normal unless you have an insane amount of ram in the system.

Get rid of ram booster. You don't need it and it's causing more problems than it's fixing.

If I notice my device slow down, I click the button to switch apps and swipe them all closed.

CM11 Ram usage

Hi all guys!
This is my first post, so i can't write on the right section.
As many other user (from january!) i've noticed a strange ram usage in cm11 (i've tryed different nightly) that decrease constantly.
There's some kind of solution for this issue? The M5 snapshot had this problem?
I've flashed the CM because it's one of the older and stable rom..but damn..now i need to reboot my phone every day!..
Thank in advance for any kind of support or solution!

first off, cm is far from the most stable rom(id say not even close). and about ram usage you didnt say at all what your issue is, so nobody can help you. if you have an issue, write it down and post it, the more detail the better.

Hi! probably you're right, this was only my first opinion relatively the CM!
About the ram issue, it's nothing more from what i've write in my previous post!
When i reboot (or switch on) my N5 the free ram it's about 1,1gb - 1,2gb. After few hours the free ram goes to 0,9gb..after a while 800mb..700mb..and constantly decrease!
After 24hours i'm with 500mb free.
The apps are the same of the stock..and i had always 1,1gb free.
I can't explain nothing more from what i see..i've checked but apparently there are no apps that use this ram.

oh, ok. your ram usage is actually normal per how android uses it. itll free ram as you need it. but i myself arent a fan at how android uses it. personally i use greenify(which keeps apps from opening in the background) and an app called fast reboot pro(which frees ram), and that keeps my ram anywhere from 1200-1500mb

[Q] RAM usage normal?

just wondering, how come the ram usage for my phone is always at 1.60-1.80GB even without any app running? is this normal? so the 3gb allocation for ram isn't really used to it's max capacity? does this ram usage result to battery bleed?

mine usage is 900MB only

i changed my runtime to ART and i'm seeing significant drop in RAM usage and increase in battery life. .

i too use ART, hence RM usage < 1GB

i noticed that my device freezes more now that i'm on ART. does this happen to you as well?

luckly no freezing / hang as yet with more than 3 weeks of use

If you aren't running xposed framework, its I'm developers options. "Select runtime" select art. ART uses a lot less RAM, it increases my battery life too. Results may vary for others.

I use xposed. Does it mean I can't turn from dalvik to ART??

some apps don't run in ART mode. I'm using Dalvik but i only have 1GB usage after rebooting.

Xperia Z5 Compact high RAM usage / slow

Hi
My Xperia Z5 compact has always been a bit of a disappointment re speed; really no improvement over the z2, in fact picture and camera loading is painfully slow.
There's a number of threads around commenting on the same issues so I've just lived with it.
Now I've just upgraded to Marshmallow, the new memory manager shows a whopping 1.7gb usage (total 1.8gb, a measly 41mb free!!!) and drilling down, Android OS is using 900mb.
The next biggest is android system and google play services at around 110 mb each and everything else is below 100mb.
I'm astonished Android OS is taking over half my ram just to run, and this is when I'm not doing anything major on my phone... Just a few SMS, bit of browsing and a lot of not being used time.
This, combined with the generally slow speed leads me to question is this normal?
What's the expected ram usage on this device?
Anything I can look at to reduce the OS ram? Ideally I'd look at a non stock rom to remove bloatware but as far as I know this phone isn't rootable yet? Or can I still get a more efficient rom on board?

Android ram management is different than Windows os,they say in Android that free ram is wasted ram,in other meaning android will free up ram when needed so you will always see high ram usage.

Is the compact not 3GB ram? Mine looks like this -

Looks like the Z5 (non compact) is 3GB.

You guys are aware, that you can smash down the ram usage of your phones right??
I made my device - Z5 (non compact version) - go from using a whopping 2.7GB of the 3GB of RAM to only about 1.4-1.7GB RAM usage

Its probably the amount of bloatware installed in his phone, things like facebook and other wakelocks really hog the phone battery, theres a good guide here on the forums on how to preserve battery life all without losing performance.

In sleep mode you will notice the difference.. But in general it does improve battery life by a bit.. Maybe for everybody else its different..
Just remember all the pre installed bloatware on the phone hog the ram and run in the background..
Especially the weather app/widget.. Thats a battery killer

By normal, I mean force closing apps to save RAM. Normally they are just idling and using a little bit of RAM - doesn't hurt the battery. If the app is using the CPU a lot then there's probably a problem in the app and you should close it. Android has a pretty good RAM management system.
Getting rid of bloatware like Facebook ect is a good idea and will help your battery

Just disable the apps you don't use. That way they can't run for no reason using ram and system ota updates will still work fine

Very heavy RAM usage

Hi all
I am Quite new to rooting. Started about 5 months ago.
Am currently using the below ROM:

My issues is that my RAM usage is constantly very high.
Over 80%.
I have greenified most of the apps.
Lagfix done and increased the speed slightly but RAM usage is still very high
Anyone can assist with the reason why and what I can do to reduce RAM usage and make the phone faster?

Post a screenshot of your application manager so we can see if there any apps that use an abnormal amount of ram.
It's worth to mention that more unused ram won't make your device faster. If you're having performance issues you should post it in the rom thread and ask for help.

If you are on Lollipop so yeah The Ram usage of lollipop is very high as compare to Kitkat......try some custom rom with less Ram usage!

Try uninstalling bloatwares which you dont use!it will also help a bit.

which specific bloatware would you recommend I remove and would be safe to remove without causing any stability issues?

High RAM usage is not a problem on Android, unlike Windows.
Android will free up RAM on it's own if necessary. Apps are kept in RAM as long as there is available memory to allow faster app start-up. Should there be larger need for RAM, older apps are removed from RAM.
