Boost LG Stylo Soft Brick? Please help. - LG G Stylo Questions & Answers

I have a boost mobile LG Stylo that I rooted last November using 6th_Hokage's custom room method provided here http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g-stylo/development/boost-stylo-5-1-1-zv5-custom-rom-v1-t3216307 on this forum. I used the rooted-zv5-system.img file. All has been well for 7 moths until last night when I was using Google Chrome and the app hung (which happens occasionally, not frequently). Had to pull and reinstert battery and upon booting, I am getting in this weird loop of Setup/Activation Wizard - Wifi Connect - and TalkBack Activation that I cannot get out of. HOME and RECENT SCREENS buttons are disabled, BACK button is enabled. I am assuming some corruption took place.
Can anyone point me in the direction of steps to take on resolving this? I am good either going back to factory or root, I just need my phone working. I have reviewed this forum, and am confused on best option on how to proceed, or do I have a permanent brick.
Thanks so much in advance for the assistance!

I'd reset it from recovery mode. I reset my phone whenever it acts wonky. When you do reset it in recovery do it like 3 times like you are clearing it out to put in a rom. If all else fails you can at least flash the rooted rom or original rom again, Good Luck! At least you have root, I'm on 6.0 and no root sux big time!

Thanks so much. Cool, I hope it is an easy fix. Because I am pretty much a noob with this stuff, I have never "cleared it out" to put in a rom. I might have done it, but do not recall. I will have to review my process steps again to make sure. Any chance you can provide some step by step instruction that I can follow with regard to resetting and clearing out from recovery mode?.
Here are the steps I found online, does this look correct to you...a hard factory reset? Is this ok even with rooted phone?
Hard reset LG G Stylo
Turn off the device
Press and hold Volume Down key + Power Key about 6-7 seconds
Release Power key when LG logo appear
When still pressing Volume Down key, press Power key one more
Release Volume down key when Factory Data Reset menu appears
Use Volume key to select “Yes”
Pres Power key to confirm.
I do still have the rooted rom I originally used and instructions from 6th_Hockage...are you saying that if I just flash that again following the steps I used to originally root the phone that this will work even though the phone is already rooted?
Thanks!

Turn off the device
Press and hold Volume Down key + Power Key about 6-7 seconds
Release Power key when LG logo appear AND it says "Recovery Mode"
You'll get a recovery menu and you use the volume up and down keys to highlight the "factory reset" after highlighting "factory reset" press the power key to activate selection. Do that three times and you will have a clean slate of your rooted rom.
You don't have to re-flash the reset will be the rooted rom

Did it work???

Recovery mode?

Anyone knows how to enter recovery mode on Optimus one?
vol down + home + power
aint working on mine...
I tried vol down + home + power when my phone was switched off and voila, it got reset . Does not matter much as I am playing with it and shoud be ready for consequences But this is not what I expected to see.
What did I do wrong? I tried using vol down + home + power when phone is ON unlocked/locked both, did not do anything.
Install the custom recovery, then the 3-button-combo should work.
With stock firmware, I think you can't enter recovery...

I am hearing this (Custom Recovery) for first time, I don't know how I missed it. :| Thanks, will try that too.
I was having the same problem, so I downloaded on Google Play the "Rom Recovery", inside app I download the Recovery.
Fine, now [ Home + volume donw + power ] enters into custom recovery.
Reboot into Recovery
You first have to install Custom Recovery, The easiest way is to download Rom Manager and flash recovery from there (your phone should be rooted for that).
After the recovery is successfully flashed, you can reboot into recovery from there itself (there is an option for that).
Or if you want to manually reboot into recovery, shut down the phone and press and hold Power + Vol up + Home keys.
If it didn't work, again shut down the phone, turn on the phone and as soon as you see the LG logo, press and hold Vol UP/DOWN + Home keys (no need to press or hold the Power key).
Guys, i was having the same issue on mine. Luckly i'm as dumb as i am smart and i kept trying... What happened on mine was that i was using the custom recovery named "TWRP - 2.8.3".. Specifically in this version, the shortcut keys combo to access the recovery mode is with Vol UP+home+power. Hope i have helped you! See ya!

Oh the irony of calling me idiot and you don't realize this is a post from 14th February 2011. duh.
I ended up trying at least 10 roms until I finally went back to stock V20 from LG which worked best of all in long run. Later bought multiple android devices like HTC M8, LG G4, V10 etc. and played with them.
Also I was new at the time of the comment, starting with my first android phone and all. Just thought I would try whatever I could find to play with the phone. Also my post clearly shows I understood the risk and was amused at my stupidity myself.

[Q] Safe to hand over non-responding phone for repair?

hi guys. I have a nexus s i9023, it was running well with 2.3.4 for three months. Got an OTA update for 2.3.6 two days ago, installed it.Im running stock, and the root is locked.
Everything seemed to be running fine when last night it just stopped responding and freezing. Taking battery out doesnt help, it again freezes at the colorful x logo or at the unlock screen.
I read on how to do a reset, but pressing volume down and power button gives me only a flash of blacklight (for a millisecond) and then nothing happens. tried it many times. What am I doing wrong? Pressing volume up and power button gives me a fastboot menu, and recovery mode only gives me an exclamation mark android, then I have to take battery out again.
Also, if I hand in my phone to the dealer for repair (its under warranty), are they locked out too or can they access my data when they repair it? Please help.
Volume down and power doesn't do anything. You have to use volume UP and power.
Also what do you mean"root is locked?"
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
apologies matt, it says the lock state = locked, when i press volume up and power button.
the options i get are reboot bootloader, reboot, recovery and power off.
please tell me how to go about formatting/wiping my nexus s? also, if i cant wipe it, is it a good idea to hand it over with my data in it to the dealer for warranty claim i.e. can they access my data?

You can wipe the phone from recovery. Go into recovery then when it loads press power + volume up.

[Q] Factory reset problem

Hey guys I updated my Razr HD to JB then after that factory reset then never boot up and just a boot cycle between motorola logo and dead android logo and retailer replaced that for me.and second one the same problem again and they send it to repair .they called me from repair centre that your mobile is rooted and you should pay and the thing is i didnt root and i dont know how to root and they said you installed an app and the app rooted your device by itself. Funny isnt it? I told them that i just indtalled flash player from xda and they said yesss they hacked yr device and rooted it by flash player so blah blah blah. Im with telstra australia and just wondering anyone with telestra in australia has this problem. Factory reset after jb update i saw other people with this issue.i appreciate anyhelp or test thank you in advanced.

I had the exact same problem with my first handset and there was a thread in here somewhere. Took it back to Fone Zone and they replaced the handset for me as it was within the first 30 days. After the replacement I brought the handset home and let JB install before doing anything else. Has been solid and I wouldn't want to risk having the same thing happen again.

First handset was factory reset after the update to JB. Second was not.
I was lucky that I got my phone through Fone Zone as they are a reseller which is why I was allowed to swap it out, but if I had got it through Telstra they would have needed to send it away to assess it because that's their policy.
Fix
I had the exact same problem that you describe on a phone from french carrier SFR.
Update to jelly bean ==> factory reset ==> dead device.
I followed the steps in the alternate method for factory reset of the "old" razr (xt910)
The trick worked for me (XT 925) I saw some french people that also managed to recover it this way:
(I found it on verizon website but don't have the righ to post link yet)
1] Power the device off.
---(Note Press the Power button then select Power off.)
---(Note If the device doesn't respond to input, press and hold the Volume Up/Down then press and hold Power button. When the device screen goes blank release the Power button while continuing to hold Volume Up/Down, proceed with step 3.)
2] Press and hold the Volume Up/Down then press the Power button.
3] When presented with the Boot Mode Selection Menu release all buttons.
4] Press Volume Down to select Recovery then press Volume Up.
5] From the Droid triage screen, simultaneously press Volume Up/Down.
6] Select wipe data /Factory Reset then press the Power button.
---(Note Use Volume keys to navigate options.)
7] Select Yes -- delete all user data then press the Power button.
---(Note Use Volume keys to navigate options.)
---(Note Data wipe may take several moments.)
8] Select reboot system now then press the Power button.
---(Note Use Volume keys to navigate options.)
Hope that can help someone !
Try booting into recovery and wiping cache.
I have yet to see an app than can root your phone without you knowing. Bollocks....

Can't access stock recovery on 4.4.2?

Not sure if anyone else has tried but today's ioroot 25 update includes root for those on 4.4.2. I tried using the manual method indicated only to realize that I can't reboot into the stock recovery. Apparently two other people with the D801 have the same problem, where after doing "adb reboot recovery" the phone boots into recovery for an instant and immediately reboots. Can anyone else running stock 4.4.2 confirm whether they experience the same behavior?

That sucks. By any chance did you happen to have a copy of the stock ROM on your phone? I'm wondering if it just automatically flashes whatever file is made available to it. I did notice some of my widgets were reset but otherwise I can't see that anything about my phone was changed.

No, sure didn't. I have it all setup again.. Going to hold off now until we see a for sure fix.
I really miss having root so I decided to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
But now for what ever reason attempting to back to 4.2.2 will not work. Fails every time... I didn't have that issue before so I am not sure what the deal is.

TMO D801 users on KK... there is SOME hope still. I am on ZVA on my Sprint G2(4.2.2) which has no "adb reboot recovery" option... it does tne same thing thats happening to you guys.. quick "system update" msg (or something along those lines) and then reboots phone.
now.. on sprint g2.. vol up + power brings you to the hard reset menu. BUT.. vol down + power brings me to the full STOCK recovery menu.
Now I know your method to get into the hard reboot screen is different.. i believe its vol down + power.. let go at lg screen the press again? well has anyone tried any alternate combos? there may be another button combo to bring you into the full stock recovery menu instead of the hard reset menu. once at the full recovery menu you can use adb sideload to flash to kk_root.zip in ioroot25.
good luck

It seems that ours is not the only model G2 with this issue. Looks like if we can figure out the button combo to bring us into stock recovery we should be able to get this to work. Having spent the greater part of the last hour trying to come up with something, I still haven't found anything. What I do know is pressing vol down + power until the LG logo and either vol down + power OR vol up + power will take me to the hard reset menu.
I also managed to get to a menu that asked if I want to answer phone calls with physical buttons by holding down all three, releasing and holding them again. But for some reason I wasn't able to replicate this. Now when I continue holding down all three buttons at the LG logo, after getting there using any button combo, the phone just shuts off.
Has anyone successfully entered the D801 stock recovery using button combos? I have yet to find any method other G2 users discussed that works for me.

Lenovo A916 Boot Loop

Hey there,
I have a Lenovo A916 which was pretty reliable. However, it is currently stuck in a boot loop. It wasn't the average type of bricking where one was trying to flash a new rom or where one was trying to root the phone. It was one where a vital app was deleted (I believe the OS UI, I may be wrong) and thus it won't restart properly. I have searched several forums and researched several processes but I wanted more advice before I tried to unbrick the phone myself.
Unfortunately, the drawbacks are that there isn't much information out there about the particular type of phone, and it makes it hard to apply methods that are made for more popular models.
The phone is rooted but the boot loader is locked. Obviously I cannot go into USB debugging mode but the phone does have a memory card slot. I have both the original and a custom rom downloaded and the relevant drivers. I even have Lenovo's LeTools.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Have you tried factory reset? I have the same phone.
Turn it off, then hold the middle of the volume rocker firmly and keep holding it while you turn on the phone - you will see a green tilted android.
Press on/off button 1 time
use the volume rocker to move down to wipe data/factory reset and press the in the middle of the volume rocker. Then on the next screen move down to Yes and press the middle of the volume rocker.
Your phone will now factory reset - wait until its done.
it will restart by itself - if not, then move to reboot now and press the middle of the volume rocker.
Hopefully this will fix your issue - though now your facing another one - there might be spyware on your phone and you have to re-root it and depending on the method install either superuser or supersu(best), then remove the spyware with malwarebytes, avast, 360 security. Make a list of those that can't be cleaned.
Then disable the offending apps.
BE CAREFUL! I'm not responsible for what you do!
If you by accident choose the wrong thing, then hold the power button for 30 seconds and your phone will restart. Turn if off and try again.
Be advised that you will loose all your apps and files, you should remove your MicroSD card first.
Good luck
Factory reset won't work.
You said you just flashed a new rom right?
If you done factory reset, it wouldn't reset your phone COMPLETELY. It will just reset the settings and the data.
What you need to do is you need to find the stock rom of your device. Then reflash it into your device.
