Its happend because of you pluggrd your phone with other chargers (volatage variation), once its happen can't do anything have to change full display. if your phone under warranty then goto near samsung care
Warranty is over and still you dont want to change display ?? Then slightly increase the brightness till the flickering is over and use bluelight filter app.
My j7 have problem. Is there a solution to this problem.

I also have this issue on my j7... sometimes. It doesn't seem to be a constant issue for me, just occasionally. I currently have it at the lowest brightness with no problem. Another symptom of this bug is a flash of pink when I lock the device.
I was also facing the similar issue and my phone is under warranty. I went to Service Center and told them that the issue keeps happening after New version update. They said it's a defect in my display in Samsung J7 and they agreed that they will replace display with free of cost since my phone is under warranty. Thanks to Samsung.
I am also having the same issue in my Samsung j7 phone.i am using ooriginal samsung charger.then how do I get this problem .plz help regarding this issue. I bought this 8months back only. Can I go Samsung care

Go to customer care
There is no way you could fix this.. It is a hardware problem. They dont check if you tripped knox or something, at least in my case they didn't. Because it is a hardware problem.

And also who thinks it is their fault, it's not. It is samsung's fault. Whole j7 series has faulty display like note 7 battery.

yes its looks hardware problem because samsung service center where i gave they updated my cell from ics to jb and formated twice but still i have the same problem.
I bought a refurbished note pro from amazon about a week ago. The screen flickers randomly for about 3 seconds onoffonoff. No real harm to anything but I would like it fixed and don't want to ship it out and wait for a new one. Any suggestions would be great thanks in advance.
Force GPU Render and Turn off Hardware overlays
Enable Developer Mode (Google it)
In Developer Options
Force GPU Rendering : Enable (Check)
Turn off Hardware overlays : Enable (Check)
Try it, it has worked for some folks.
What is the reason of screen flickering?
I have exactly the same problem. But can someone please explain the reason of this?
Is it hardware related or is it just a firmware bug that can be permanently fixed?
In my case, this problem disappears after restart and then I can have 10-24 hours of normal operation before this problem comes back again. I personally find this very strange...
Flickering also
Mine also is flickering. This happens in highend games and when the battery is lower dan 51 % and the screen brightness is full. When I adjust screen brightness to 50 % or less the flickering stops. I guess it is a battery problem combined with software problem.
I already did fresh install and changed setting in developer setting.
Does someone has an solution?
I have the same issue that happens with the battery lower than 45%....... I hope someone can solve this .....

Tomorrow mine will go back to Samsung Supplier. Case Magnet also does not work.
I thought I was the only one with this issue. Glad to see its not just me. I am also experiencing heavy flickering on this device. I'm thinking maybe I should flash a firmware upgrade??? I am already at NC5, but isnt there a newer one available - ND* , NE*, NF* ??? Its really starting to bother me.

Updating did not help for me, also tried other original firmwares. I only experienced flickering under 50% battery and full resolution till 70% resolution. Also flipcovermagnet did not work. Today I returned mine for repair. I triggered Knox 1 time, Samsung will only repair the tablet one time for that.
It is firmware related. It is fixed in NG2 firmware, which is released for Netherlands and Poland so far. On all older firmwares, enabling "disable hardware overlays" in developer options fixes this. But this option needs to be enabled on every reboot, as it doesn't stick.

Also installed NG2, it wasn't Dutch by the way. It also did not solved the problem.
When my tablet is coming back I will let you know what Samsung had to say.
This problem is so stange. After restart I can have a few days without any problem at all. I can play games, I watch videos, I try to provoke the flickering by opening different programs that use hardware overlay feature but everything works perfectly... The problem comes back suddenly, the device at that time can be hot or cold, it can be just turned on from sleep mode or be used for many hours prior the moment the problem appears again. I really cannot identify the pattern and determine what can trigger this flickering. It is so annoying.

Hm, did you check the RAM usage when it happens? Every device starts having issues when there are too many apps in the cache and the RAM is too full (from freezes to lag to reboots), and since you mention it can take days after a reboot, it might be RAM related. Did you try clearing that when it happens?

Today I ran different stress test apps and one app that fills RAM up to the limit when all background programs are gets killed by the internal Android "safety" feature and I did not get any flickering! But I am almost 100% confident that it will appear again in a few days. I also tried to carefully twist and bend the tablet thinking that the problem might be related to loose cable connection but still nothing.
Registered to say that I've had the same screen flickering problem with my Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 wi-fi tablet. I have actually returned two and am hoping for better luck with the third. I've bought all three from Costco in Phoenix, Arizona. With the first, I used the tablet for almost two months before the screen started flickering and I got random shutoffs/reboots. With the second, I got these same symptoms within two days. The flickering continued after a system restore, so I don't think it's a software problem.
Elsewhere on the internet, people have reported flickering while watching video and fixed it by turning off software rendering in developer options. That, however, seems to be a separate problem. I experienced the flickering during all activities, and changing the rendering setting didn't fix it. Nor did turning off auto-brightness.
The flickering seemed to show up most often when the battery was low, making me wonder if it was a power problem. I've also noticed, though, that the tablet seems to get really hot around the top center, where the camera lens is, especially on the backside. This makes me wonder if the tablet is burning itself out, or if using a case might hasten the problem by holding in heat.
Bought this third tablet from a different location, thinking maybe there was a bad run or something. If anyone figures out the issue or gets any kind of useful response from Samsung, please post.
This makes me wonder... Are you all using the WiFi edition of the tablet? Anyone with the LTE P905 having the problem?

Hello, I'm just getting my replaced K1 from Nvidia today and I'm incredibly disappointed to find that this unit is showing the exact same symptom as the one that I originally sent back to them; the screen flickers at low backlight levels. It doesn't matter whether I have PRISM set on or off or adaptive brightness, the screen flickers.
To me a screen that flickers like this is really not acceptable.
Does your screen flicker when the backlight level is set low? Should I keep trying through the RMA process with Nvidia until I get one that works? Or, am I just going to keep being disappointed?
Disabling quto adjust solved it for me
On 0% brightness the screen sometimes flickers slightly mostly perceivable on snow white backgrounds like the Settings. Bump the brightness up a notch like 2% and the flickering immediately ceases. Deactivating PRISM can help in some cases too.
Nvidia customer support has told me that they've isolated the flickering problem as a software issue and that they will be issuing a fix for it in an upcoming update. Hopefully this is the case.
I am returning this previous RMA replacement K1 again due to the fact that it came with a mark on the screen, so hopefully when I get the new one a fix for the original issue will be forthcoming.
Here me too ... and this is the third K1 replaced (I changed the old k1 for other problems)
edit: i found that video on YT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h24YdpHinVE
Yes. it happened since i upgraded my tablet to Shield firmware version 5.0. upgrading to 5.1 also cannot resolve it. It never happened with previous firmware versions.

it must be a software issue since it never happened before the firmware version 5.0. I noticed it started to happen when i upgrade it to the Shield firmware 5.0 (it is even worse at 5.0). then, when they release 5.1, i noticed that the flickering is still there but a bit better than previously happened in version 5.0
I doubt that. I'm still on Lollipop 5.1.1 and the flicker exist inconsistently.
I presume that the screen merely doesn't get *enough* juice at 0% brightness hence the flickering. A software update would consist of bumping the brightness level of 0% by 1 or 2 percent. Problem solved.
Yes, it looks like a software problem, because on my current K1 i never have that problem. After a seriously freeze ( impossible to reboot manually, after several seconds it has restarted by itself) the K1 shows a burn-in image for some seconds (like the amoled) and then it began to flicker too much, now it's much better, but there is yet.
this is my video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_0vaad8L7zDSGtzaW1BN3RlWU0/view?usp=drivesdk
But i don't think is a problem of the update, I agree with what @Niii4 said, maybe the system can't support the lowest brightness,
maybe is an hardware+software problem

Since i had updated to nougat this has happened exactly word for word how you explained it. is there a fix for this if it is software related
Hello I have my honor 9 since it launch june 2017.
I use global rom strait from the (aliexpress) store. I use EMUI 8.0.0.368 (C432) my model is STF-L09, Kernel version is 4.4.23)
Slowly i get frustrated from the device and ill explain why (if there are solved problem ill like to hear that)
1. Performance issues - after every update or upgrade it become slower and laggy, and now it reacts even slower than my xiaomi mi4 !
2. Reliability - since now screen got broke (too easy), battery got damaged (bulged) and the rear cover opened, and now camera getting out of focus (well known huawei problem that on youtube you can find temporary solution - hit hard :crying . good point for the phone is that fixing isn't expensive.
3. Camera Video issues - focus was never good (before my recent problem) and stability bad for 2018 phones.
4. Heating too fast - in summer phone get hot and screen become darker so almost cant see anything.
5. Display - till today it can not be automatic brightness cause it getting immediately to minimum light - come on couldn't they fix it till now ? another issue is not bright enough in direct sunlight no matter what other users say, compare it to samsung phones and you understand !
6. Connectivity - Wifi too slow. i test the wifi speed of the phone next to others and next to laptop and it was half speed of the others
7. Smart assistance - Draw never work at my phone, no matter how hard i knock on it
Please if any of the issues solved il like to hear that
Thanks
I never had one of these problems and I am on 8.0.0.368 too.
Well, after a time in full summer sun and full usuage it got a bit hot but i guess that is normal with every phone.
Maybe you should clear all caches, there could be some rubbish left from previous firmwares.

A. I already replace the battery a month ago so its a new one. i know no warranty anymore (no worry)
B. Can i test light captor or replace it ?
C. regarding Smart assistance any thoughts ?
I've had mine for 3 months now and haven't seen any of those problems . sounds to me like the phones been damaged , probably dropped on a hard surface .
i checked my light sensor and it work fine, the problem must be software !
Try a full factory's settings restore.
factory's settings should go to Chinese version or global rom ?
A factory reset won't rebrand your device.

No i didnt do nothing. it come like this from the shop (aliexpress to shop) when i asked them to send it with global rom
Why its not look ok ?
I said you may have rebranded wrong because your old post : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?&p=73073528
But if it was done last year by chinese seller you should be ok.
So when you get your phone you were on nougat C432, since then, you're now on oreo.
Maybe somethings gone wrong during the last year updates. Does your flahlight still working ?
It may be a good thing to test again your problem after
-a reset to factory settings
or better
-a full restore with a dload firmware image via sdcard or usb-otg
I did not do it it come from the shop (aliexpress top shop) i requested global rom
Update - after factory reset i test sensors and all working fine and also flashlight (164,000 on antutu), but still some issues:
1, autobrightness still bad - in very direct sun light reach only to half so cant use it .
2, Smart assistance - draw still not working no matter how hard i knock
Hi,
i got my Zenfone 6 today, and i really like it, but there is one thing that probably makes me return it...
The display is flickering when it‘s set to really low brightness, i think its the backlight.
I‘m not sure if it's broken or not. So, am i the only one with a flickering display?
Thank you

I had the same situation yesterday, it was on low brightness too.
But only for a few seconds, for now, everything seems fine, even in low brightness.
With adaptive brightness set on or off?
Do you have the latest firmware version WW-16.1210.1904.133?
It doesn‘t matterif adaptive brightness is on or off, it does it as soon as the display lowers its brightness to the 1st 1/4 of the brightness bar...
Ok. Do you have the latest firmware version WW-16.1210.1904.133?

Hi, i have the same problem. Received the phone a week ago and trying to find a solution. I am on the last firmware, tried the dev option about overlay, hard reset and still the same. Going to send it back to Asus for a refund...
I wonder if this is software or hardware related. As of now i can't use it at night with low brightness.
It will probably be a problem for a particular phone, I would recommend that you replace it with a new one.
https://swedroid.se/forum/threads/snabba-fragor-snabba-svar-zenfone-6.165775/page-38#post-2443073
Thanks for the feedback. Called Asus this morning to replace it hopefully.
My Zenfone 6 does the same. If I set the adaptive brightness on the low brightness flickering disappears. I think it's a software related problem because others Zenfone have the same behaviour.
Tried it. No matter the settings it flickers. I found a video that match the problem, weird no one noticed : youtu.be/DN1La8AbZsI
Check at 1.16 min, on the right side, it flickers like that, when the luminosity is low. This is what i see on my screen.
Same here. White backgrounds flicker when brightness set to low. Tried disabling HW overlay, but it didn't help. Phone on the latest firmware WW_16.1210.1904.133.
Anybody letting the techs at Asus know about these problems? I would like to hear about a fix before I buy anything.
I am in touch with Asus France, i have to send back the phone for an exchange as they told me it MAY be a hardware problem.
I linked the thread to them if it can help.
Every zenfone I have had (2 and 3) have had this issue.

I think it's a software issue...if you let the brightness working in auto mode the problem disappears.
It is set in auto mode on my device and still the same. With or without doesn't help sadly.
Hmmm is this international version? The U.S is coming next month. Hopefully this get fix before I'm buying it.

Mine is flickering when brightness is set to low (about 1/4-th of the brightness slider and down) no matter auto or no auto.
Funny how we here in the US complain that so many phones are released in the EU, or India, or China long before they ever appear here....but in reality it could be that we benefit from this practice so that some of these issues can be resolved by others before we have to deal with them.

I hope that when this phone is released in your country, this issue will be solved definitively via software update. The way I see it, this problem isn't a huge problem, fortunately. Actually the screen flickering occours only if the brightness is set to a very low level (e.g. <20%) but, with this setting, the backlight is too dim as well for use even in a dark room (obviously for my taste). Since I use adaptive brightness with default settings, the minimum value the screen brightness reaches is 34% so I never get the problem....
