Internal memory problem. - General Questions and Answers

Hello good people. I got a problem that is driving me crazy. When I have a general look with the Es Explorer it shows so little free space in my internal memory.
But... When I select ALL files in internal memory, it just 1gb and a little more used.
But I can't install anything big in internal, ok, I use the ext but....why this happens?
Thanks in advance

Please, nobody got a clue? It's drive in me crazy this problem. And don't want to factory reset. Thanks

Files explorers says it's full, but when you look for the details, hiden files including, there's just 1 gb and a little more used. Like there's some ghost file there.

Look, it says I got 5 gb used, 4 gb of cache, I deleted cache via CWM, and in the details of the Es Explorer don't show 5 gb used... What's going on?

Click on "Datos en cache". It should prompt you to delete all cache. Press yes and report how it goes. Also can you click on the "utilized storage" to see what is using the storage?

Miscellaneous files?

I still havent seen an answer for this issue, but I have over 6GB of Miscellaneous Files in Setting->Storage. nothing in there shows that much info, so I know its from loading different ROMs. I have no idea how to get rid of these files. I've been looking all around CWM for something to clear, but I'm not too confident about messing with that.
Does anyone have an idea of how to clear up this stuff?
Do you have a few nandroid backups? Those will register there. If you're using TWRP, there's a TWRP folder and you can remove them or archive them off. Clockwork is the same, I just don't remember offhand where it stores them.
If this isn't it, you can install busybox, and then either adb shell, or use a terminal emulator on the phone and run `du /mnt/sdcard -hl -d 1` you can then drill down to the directories which are the biggest offenders. Changing the 1 to another number increases the depth that it reports.

Okay. I finally managed to get this started. I went through terminal emulator and found that the /sdcard is only 7.6GB while the number in the main settings says over 10. /android has 2GB from some games, but I can't find anything showing where the 6GB of miscellaneous file is at. Even cwm is only 1.7GB from the one backup I have.

I've been fiddling with this for the last day or so and found that under miscellaneous file, System Memory now shows up as taking 3.67 GB of data. I've been looking everywhere to see where that much info could be, but I'm kinda stuck now.
I now know where that extra space has gone, but I have no idea how to free it up.

Galaxy S4 Miscellaneous Files: what and where are they?
So I'm getting a warning that the internal SD is out of memory, I've moved all movable apps to external SD, photos, music too.
Rooted and have TWIP as recovery *BUT* before I install a custom ROM, I want a backup *BUT* there's no room as the backup wants to use internal SD (not external)
Somehow Miscellaneous Files show over 8GB but in My Files it only shows about 200MB addressable (erasable). I deleted all Dropbox files and saved 200MB.
Where the heck are the other 7.8GB of files? How can I see them please?
Thanks in advance.

I did this but didn't solve the problem for me. However, I did find a solution which worked for me. I used CWM, went in to the >Backup and Restore>Delete> and chose to delete all backups in the internal SD. Solved my problem

Yes its kinda simple, at least it worked for me. Don't forget to thank me
Download ES Explorer
and go into the /data/media folder.
the troublesome files are there. Careful what you delete tho. For myself I had old remnants from another ROM and the entire rom zip file.
Don't forget the thanx button.
A lot of that is cached data for apps. If you use apps like gmusic, it caches music files to the device and that cache folder will grow. Root access will allow you to clear all your data es, including hidden files and that size will drop.

There's nothing in that folder.
So not that simple.
If you're rooted, get Cache Cleaner NG and let it wipe all that unnecessary data. I run it weekly.
With roms like gummy, you can click on Misc and see which app has all the data... It's likely something like Vine (it had a huuuuuuuge cache) or another app like gmusic.

Sir (or madam).
I need you to fully understand exactly how amazing of a person you are. I don't know where the data was or what ate it all, but this app got it all back and you are awesome for recommending it.

I recently ran into a similar issue with my rooted nook tablet. It was killing my sd cards. When I put the sd cards in my laptop, I erased all partitions and that fixed them.

Strange Internal Storage Problem

Please take a look at the attached screen shot where it shows that the information I have on my phone only takes up about half of the internal storage, yet I only have 511MB available. Can someone please help me find out where my internal storage went?
I am running CyanogenMod 10 on my SG3. Before this I ran all of the Experimental M builds and before that I ran several different nightlies.
Update:
I can't tell if my screenshot is working. I will type out what I see when I go to settings, storage:
Internal Storage:
Total Space
12.05GB
- Apps 3.03GB
- Pictures, videos 635MB
- Audio 22KB
- Downloads 97.64MB
- Available 510MB
Thre is also a graph of which more than half is dark gray representing Available.
Do you have a lot of backups? My backups don't show up in that chart either, but I've got 2.5 GB worth. Use something like storage analyzer from the play store.

Accidentally saved some CWM backups to internal SD. Deleted them through CWM, but still shows 4.4GB in CWM folder. Also have several weird folders, USBDriveA-F, dated the same as CWM backups. Running Jelly Beans build 6. noob, so any help is very much appreciated.
Shouldn't your Total Space list 16 GB though?
I have the 32 GB model, and I just checked mine, and it says I have exactly 32 GB of Total Space.

Go back into cwm and clear unused backup data in the backup menu, should clear up a little room. They do take up a lot of space though, they will take roughly 1.2 gb per backup. Also, i have those folders too. Not sure why, but they don't take y space, do they yours?

That perfect sense, and actually that is what I would expect. I was surprised when I saw mine reading "32.00 GB" Total Space. I thought it was going to read 27 or 28 GB or something like that.
Attached a screenshot. Maybe my phone is just including the system partition files in the Miscellaneous category or something?
I tried deleting backups from CWM, but the blobs folder was still 4GB. Is there a way to delete blobs folder contents through CWM? After flashing TOB 4.5, knew I wasn't going back so I deleted the contents of the blobs folder from file manager :good: My usbdrive folders are empty too, just wondering if that was normal.

[Q] 1.2 gig of memory missing

hi all,
i have a problem with my galaxy s4 mini, yesterday i copied a movie from my pc to my phone, it was 1.2 gig big and after i copied it there was no movie to be found in the folder where i put it in.
i got a message that my memory was full, so im missing 1.2 gig of my internal memory, how can i fix this?
probebly it will be solved by going back to factory setting but thats a last resort for me, im hoping sombody knows a solution whitout a hard reset.
Silly suggestion, but have you rebooted the phone? Sometimes the file indexers crash (or get disabled) and the files are there but won't show up.
Also, tried another file manager?

You can, if you format your phone
If you copied the file via MTP from your computer, it sometimes fails to refresh the media index.
Try to look at the copy destination with an app from your phone, i.e. a file explorer that does not hide hidden or temp files. It possible that the file is there and you can manually delete it.

Edit internal memory to add to phone storage?

Is it possible to increase my (rooted 4.4.4) fake galaxy note 4's phone storage, by taking some storage from the internal memory? Is it possible via root, or ROM at all? I don't want apps2sd or anything like that.
I think the phone storage is smaller than listed in settings, and I can get less than a mb of storage on it. No downloads go to my SD card, even when the settings are right.
By increasing my phone storage, I can at least see what's wrong.
Thanks

Well, upon lengthy consideration, I think I still want to. Can you tell me a little more? Can I do this with the stock ROM? Where would I find a guide to do this?

I never actually did this, and it seems to me that this is device specific meaning that you will not find a universal method how to change system partition.
I am not by a pc now, so I can't make really any research.

OK bro I think you have a option that is creat partition on SD card & use link2sd app to free internal memory but remember I am not responsible for kind of damage, try this at ur own risk...

Delete the Lost.dir folder if you have it or try es file explorer and select Sd card analyst, it'll give you a good idea on what's eating your storage.
Have you tried clearing your cache?
