Hello Everyone, I am Extremely new to posting on XDA so I am not sure if there is a standard or not. Basically The Problem I am having is that the Screen randomly turns black and does not turn back on unless connected to the charger for about a minute. I know that the phone does not die as both the digitizer and speaker continue to function. I have Tried:
-Software Initialization in SmartSwitch
-Factory Reset in Settings
-Factory Reset through Recovery Menu
-Odin reset Image 5.1.1 and 6.0.1
I also can not turn it into the Samsung Service Center as I already replaced the back of the phone in attempt to reseat the lcd/digitizer cable. If Anyone has any experience or insight into this I would fully Appreciate it. Thank You.

Does your phone function 100% as designed (i.e. are you able to use your phone) while it is turned on or does your phone gets frozen?
Is your phone still under warranty? If your phone is still under warrant call or online chat with support and get a shipping label and send it for repairs. There is no need to inform the support about what happen to your phone before. If support determines that your warranty is void they will provide a quote to repair your phone. Also you can dispute the claim that your warranty is void. If you decide not to repair the phone they will ship it back to you for free. So you have nothing to lose but a lot to gain by send your phone for repairs under warrant.
I observe that many members post questions but seems to bee too busy don't care to provide an update in this forum once the issue is resolved. Hence kindly update us of your progress as it will expand our collective knowledge.
This seems to be a common problem and it a known main board defect. I have a similar issue and I have to send for repair after I return to the US from my vacation.

Okay so I retried updating it without a reset within smartswitch and so far it hasn't turned off. Also If I did want to Ship the Phone, Will they accept warranty if there is a small crack in the bottom right of the back glass. BTW Thanks you for the reply.

In my opinion that should not void warranty (not a water damage - you could always claim that you're phone fell).
As I said if the repairs are not covered under warranty they will give you a ridiculousness high quote to repair it out of warranty and you could decline and they will ship it back to you at no cost to you. So on the downside you have nothing to lose and you will get back your phone as is but on the upside you might get lucky and get it fixed for fee

Update(June 21, 2016)- Samsung Gave a Free Label For UPS 2nd Day Air A.M. The service center they are shipping it to is only about 15 minutes away, but I am just going to utilize the label.

Ok so they had my phone since Friday, but said they received it Monday. I found out today that the back glass did cause it to not be in warranty. Fortunately, they have already sent it back to me and it should be back tomorrow. Hopefully they tried some software trick and it fixed it. Fingers crossed!
Ok so They gave me a free box with some packaging(samsung). Looks like they didn't even touch the phone as it was not factory reset.

I bought my phone new back in late December and only after about a month of use got the oil spot problem and my volume button would stick and bring up the volume control over and over basically making the phone unusable. So I got and RMA from HTC repair, sent it in, got it back about a week later but the volume button problem was still there. So I sent it in again and they finally fixed it. Here it is 5 months later, same exact problems come back "phone is still in warranty until 01/2010" so I call RMA center, tell them to submit an RMA with the SAME exact issues as before on my account and I send it in but this time they respond with this:
Diagnosis:
Newton ring (oil spot) indicates excessive pressure to LCD
Button failure
Suggested Repair:
Replace LCD and refurbish
Total Repair Price:
$202.57
What gives?! I call them and they say under the phones new circumstances the warranty is NOT covered so there is the charge. My question is how can they repair it the first time at NO cost under warranty and this time say it was excesive use and given that it has the EXACT same problems as before want to charge me for repair?? Am I justified in calling them and complaining?
Hello, I know this is a WAY LONG PAST RELEVANT ITEM for you, but I found your thread in my search. I have had similar problems before with HTC AMERICA, but this time they have gone too far, so I am bumping your thread for this occasion, and simply directing you to my current thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002951
I would just like to ask if you would read Post #1 and tell me if the experience overall sounds similar in tone and attitude to the one you describe.
It disgusts me to read of your situation. The one that I am describing currently is for my HTC DESIRE, under warranty, warranty not being honored.
However, YOUR SCENARIO, and i realize it's now 2 years old, sounds more like my FIRST encounter with HTC AMERICA with a brand new HTC HERO, with a wifi receptor problem. (I still had my HTC /T-Mobile Wing and it was picking up WIFI signals perfectly everywhere, in my home, on the street, in cafes... but the new Hero -- no.)
HTC-AMerica diagnosed that indeed it was broken. The phone was just weeks old so I asked "don't i just get a new phone?" They said NO, WE HAVE TO REPAIR IT. So i was out of a phone for several weeks. Then it comes back. No charge, that's great. But same problem. Whatever they did, didn't fix it. I called and said this is ridiculous, they said "send it back, here is new RMA"...
I said "You're kidding right? A brand new phone, you repair it, it didn't fix it, same problem, and you want me to REPAIR IT AGAIN? Isn't it time you just give me a new phone?"
"No, per policy blah blah, we must repair it".... I told them they were nuts, and my warranty was useless, what is their problem, and I was now forced to use my SECONDARY INSURANCE with "SquareTrade.com" ---- They were of course like "whatever"
And SquareTrade paid out the full price of the phone within 48 hours.
That was with the HTC Hero.
I'd almost forgotten about that. because i then bought the HTC Desire, a phenomenal phone... til i had this recent warranty problem.
Anyway, I'm bumping your thread because i intend to make an issue out of this. Any help on your end would be great. (IE case # ect.... but, i total;ly understand you have long since moved on, so, don;t worry about it. Just bumping this is helpful. thank you.

The power button decided it doesn't want to work anymore. Since its been rooted, and I don't trust the shops in town, it's going back to HTC for repairs. They told me it will get wiped during the service (and I will do a factory reset before it leaves), what are the chances of it coming back locked with the factory ROM installed?
Any other things, besides the S3, I should watch for when it comes back? I'm not worried about losing LeeDroid, it's all backed up, and can be restored as soon as it comes home.
Well the power button is a part of the removable SIM cover so unless it's the button in turn being pressed by that that's causing your problem then it's a very easy repair... All bets are of as to whether they'll also RUU your phone for you.

The switch itself is on the phone. Only the physically pressable part is on the SIM cover.
I don't think you will get a s3 version back given the fact that you sent out s4 version and this repair should not be so difficult that they have to give you a replacement.
But, they will very likely factory reset your phone and put everything back to "out of box status". So you will have stock Rom, locked bootloader. I learned this from other threads where people saying it is part of HTC's repair process to flash everything to factory state no matter it's hardware or software repair.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Got the quote back on the repair today.
In order to properly repair your device, the following action(s) will need to be taken which will require payment due to the out of warranty diagnosis:
• Replace Device Main Board

So, when it comes back, it will probably be locked and untampered. It's bad that the guys at T-mobile were telling me to lose it, but I wanted to take the high road and do it right. A main board is $240, btw.

So not worth it...It will be $240 + tax.
You can buy a new one locally for ~$350...Probably could sell the other sucker to some idiot desperate for a deal for $200 as well...
Did they give you any reason why exchanging the mobo is out of warranty? You should ask so if not.
I mean, you sent it in because of a defective power-on button...
They'll just say the reason why is because the HBOOT displays "unlocked".
Honestly if you want to get warranty coverage on an unlocked phone in Europe your best bet is to brick it to QHUSB_DLOAD mode and then send it in.

That was exactly the reason I got. Oh well, it's on it's way back, I can finally put the Nokia 7510 I have been using out of its misery (and mine), and have my One back. There is at least a thread now, in case someone else runs into this problem, they will know what to expect.
I took my tmobile one s back with me to taiwan and got the screen fixed there (HTC has repair/service centers there, it's kinda like an apple store without the products, all they do is help you with your phone)
Anyways, they called me and said, literally, "the mainboad is unstable and needs to be changed" (i sent it in for a cracked lcd) I declined and said just fix the screen....they ended up sending me a brand new/refurb device..
I have a nexus 5 rooted with stock rom and kernel and stock recovery+ xposed+GravityBox and some other xposed modules.
this happened sunday and again today.
I unlocked the screen and then the screen looked like that:
even on reboot the screen still was with the pixel snow
and after a few minutes of locking and unlocking repeatedly the screen turned OK again.
couldn't find a lot of information online.
does anyone knows why has this happened?
has someone experienced this kind of failure?
any advice?
thanks.
It's a hardware failure. Most probably the screen or the Flex cable went bad. It can only be solved by replacing it.
Definitely a hardware fault.... Had exactly the same screen on my n86 when the repair guyz told me that flex cable was damaged...
thanks..
the problem is I bought the phone on ebay and had it sent to my uncle who was in the states for a business trip and then he brought it to me when he finished his trip.
I'm not from the US so I don't know who should I complain to :\
sending it back to the US and **** will take a lot of time and probably money

Totally depends on the device's IMEI. If the IMEI if not of the country you're residing in, warranty goes out of the window. In any case, you need to send it in to get it fixed whether it's under warranty or not.
Good Luck :good:

Hello everybody.
I have an S21 + 5G with which I was comfortable until yesterday. After sending a message with Whatsapp, the screen went black.
I tried soft reset and hard reset but nothing has changed. The smartphone is under warranty but they informed me that the repair times could be long (repair centers are closed).
I am also willing to invalidate the warranty if necessary, in order to be able to use the phone again (I have not activated the download mode).
Do you think it is possible to restore the firmware in any way?
Thanks in advance to everyone.
also having this problem with my wife's s21+, she was using it fine this morning but the screen went black and wont turn on. any fix for this?

is it still out of power? i'd take it to the nearest service center; either ubreakifix or samsung care store
DO NOT INVALIDATE YOUR WARRANTY... you will need it!
The black screen of death is getting to be common with this model.
Samsung hasn't been transparent at all about the cause. Firmware and/or display seem to be to possible causes... another Sammy blunder.
Sammy wasting too many resources on the Fold line and not putting them where they are needed... on their bread winners.
Just another day in the box of rabid gerbils known as Samsung
