Z3 D6633 Marshmallow microphone problem - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My primary microphone doesnt work normally on calling but it is working well on both voice and video recording! I also changed microphone but still problem exist. even setting microphone sensitivity to high doesnt change anything.
Could it be a problem with Noise canceling? Is there any way to disable that setting in Marshmallow? I tried to change persist.audio.fluence.voicecall=true to "false" but same results.
Im on .570 rooted firmware.
Thanks

The .570 firmware does not have the option for noise cancellation. So I think it may be a problem with the software itself. Did you do a clean install?
Video recording uses the secondary microphone. Are you sure voice recording works?
Try to record an audio on whatsapp and listen to it or try with the "Diagnosis" app. You can find it by going to Settings > About Phone > Diagnosis.
If that doesn't help, I'd try a clean install of the software, but use the .575 FW for that.

Yes i did a clean install. Both voice and video recording working perfectly. I tried voice recording with primary mic and it working perfect, also tried Diagnostic app and it hadn't any problem at all. I covered secondary microphone and 3.5mm jack with tape but results was same, tried with another sim card, another sim slot, and nothing changed. I will downgrade rom to 4.4 for last solution but it will take lots of time!
Thanks for reply

Still seems like a software issue to me. Try as well wiping cache first. You can do that by pressing volume up and power button at the same time while the phone is turned on until you hear the phone vibrate 3 times. Afterwards boot it normally and try again.

RE: Speakers not working

RE: Speakers not working
Hello, my 1+ was working fine yesterday. I charged up my home to 100% when sleeping, when I woke to watch a XDA video on Youtube. There were no sounds coming from the speakers.
I called my phone, the ringer didn't sound off but I was able to hear what the other end of saying. I put on headphones and it worked.
I tried resetting Synapse, rebooting, power off. I made sure the volumes were on. Nothing worked.
Yesterday I installed Facebook app and Messenger, before I slept.
Update:
Oh it works now.
I used Clean master app. And rebooted phone.
I would like to know if that didn't work, what would be an appropriate step to take?
Thank you in advance.
It didn't work again after I went back and changed the Synapse settimgs. These settings has always worked before. I don't know why it doesn't now. I tried the method above and it doesn't work still.
Update:
I cleared the Synapse data and rebooted. It works now.
This step didn't work before as mentioned above, but it worked now.
How come?
Dont use the Sound Control Lock in sound section....i was having same problem and took that setting back off
Speaker not working
hi everyone,
I appear to have the same problem. My speakers aren't working but my earphones and bluetooth speakers are.
the comments above didn't fix anything.
any ideas?
I have the same issue. No external speaker sound. Playing youtube or video clips. just wondering if other people has resolve this? thx
I appear to have the same issue. It appears the phone 'thinks' my earbuds are plugged in while they're not. That results in the speaker not working when I tried to play sound over the speakers and the earpiece not working when I try to call people. I have to put the phone manually on speaker while calling or use earbuds. I am not sure, but I think the problem might be related to the google play app. Rebooting does not work, neither the new version of google play that got isssued today solves the problem.
I could probably try installing soundabout or such app, but that's a bandaid and not a real solution, so I wait for now for a real solution.
edit: Installing Soundabout does not make a difference.

Same trouble here..
Hi! I have the same trouble since yesterday, I have tried wiping all, reset as factory settings, changing roms (from cm12 nightlies to colorOs), reinstalling audio fx and trying with viper4android.. I Don't Know what else to try.. Did you find a solution?? Thanks!
speaker issue solved
I had the same issue. The speaker didn't respond except for alarms & ringtones.
There is an issue with the 3.5mm jack.
Try the putting headfone in & out couple of times.
The speaker will turn on.

Thanks this worked for me
Yeah, I'm having these issues as well. I moved my motherboard to another OPO and it seems like the speaker I/O just doesn't work anymore. I can try these solutions, but I'm pretty sure that wiping the entire system and installing different firmwares (ROMs) would fix the issue. I'm quite vexed, to be honest.
My right speaker stopped working after taking my phone from the service center. I gave my phone to change display! My phone speaker is just dead
Speakers mic not working OnePlus X
Hii guys,
I have a sudden peculiar problem.
The left speaker as well as the mic and earpiece speaker are not working.
When I make or receive a call, the dialer crashes.*A terrible state when the phone problem affects basic functions like making calls (basic purpose of a mobile phone).
I have tried factory reset as well, But no magic!
Any immediate help is more than appreciated!!
Thanks
I had the same problem: media audio (youtube/facebook-videos etc.) was not playing through the speaker, but when I plugged headphones in the sound worked perfectly. Notification sounds were playing normally even through the speaker.
I contacted OnePlus live online support and they suggested me to download the "Clean Master" app. I downloaded it, cleaned my phone using it, rebooted, and after that my speaker was working fine!
Maybe you could try this if you have a similar problem.

Well, I can see why you think I'm kidding because I myself didn't want to trust the OnePlus clerk but I'm not kidding at all.
I was amazed too, it actually worked that way: I installed the program, cleaned, rebooted and the speaker was working again.
So maybe it was a software issue after all.
At least people can try this solution because it is so much simpler than rooting your phone / installing Bootloader etc.

Surprising this works for me after multiple reboots and cache cleaning from recovery mode.
More specific information on how I go about with cache cleaning:
In Clean Master:
1. Clean junk files. Grant permission for cleaning more junk files when asked.
2. Continue to "Advanced Cleaning" and remove Phone Junk.
Optional (Found this works when camera or Media-related apps began FC-ing, along with speaker not working):
In ES File Explorer:
1. Go to APP
2. Switch from "User Apps" to "System Apps"
3. Long press on "Media Storage", choose "Properties", choose "Storage", then choose "CLEAR DATA" and "CLEAR CACHE". (System-based phone ringtones and message ringtones will not work for a while until the phone automatically regenerates this info, you don't have to do anything, just wait for the phone to do it's job).
Reboot
1. Reboot and select reboot into recovery.
2. Select "Advanced Wipe", then select "Wipe Cache".
3. Reboot System.
Repeat the above 2-3 times if the first attempt doesn't fix the issue. Usually more phone junk is discovered after second reboot.
Hope this helps!

Can't hear any audio during an incoming call

I am using a non-rooted stock rom based Moto G 2015, XT1550.
Sometimes when i accept a call, I can't hear anything but the caller can hear my voice perfectly, that is the mic is still working.
This occurs only once or twice during the day and only when somebody calls me. Unfortunately the 30 day return/replacement period is over so I can't return the phone and my network receptions seems to be ok.
Theses are the steps I have taken to try to resolve the issue on my own but without any fruitful result:
1.Tried factory resetting the phone.
2.Wiping cache partition
3. Rebooted the phone
4.When this issue occurred tried plugging in the headphone, switched to the loudspeaker,
placed the in-call volume to the maximum but none of this produced any audio output.
5. Tried testing the earpiece using the service mode *#*#2486#*#*, worked OK.
When I faced this problem I wasn't listening to music or using any apps(like if the audio was routed to the headphone port and not switching back to the earpiece).
6.This happened before and after the recent stage fright update.
7.Disabled OK Google detection.
8. Moto assist was also off.
My data and bluetooth are always off, I am not using any new or unfamiliar apps that might cause this issue. Could this be a hardware issue? Please advise me on how to fix this issue...Really need your help :crying:
If I could find any fix I will update this post soon.
Try flashing the stock firmware, maybe that helps it.
(Warning: downgrading can cause problems)

Microphone not working on phone calls

Hello,
After struggling to get microphone to work on phone calls, I did a complete wipe and flashed the latest stock factory image.
I'm still having this issue. It's on both hangouts dialer and phone app.
When I use a voice recording app, microphone works. Google Now "OK Google" does not work though. I'm perplexed how to resolve this issue.
Thanks
Now I'm not 100% sure, but i think Google now, phone calls, etc. use the bottom microphone and video recording, audio recording, etc. use the second microphone on the device. It's possible that one of them is dead and the other functioning. I know you tried a clean marshmallow flash, but have you tried clean flashes of previous Android builds?

Samsung galaxy s8 plus audio problem during videocalls

Hello!
I have a major issue during videocalls using google duo, skype where if there are any background noise around me, i can't hear the person i am talking to. The audio cuts off. It has to be silent around me in order for me to hear the person i am talking to. Is there any fix to this problem? I have already reset the phone but the problem is still there.
mic (over) sensitivity? perhaps some will stop by and know the file and file entry to edit.
any of this type setting elsewhere (Settings, the app itself, and sound modification yo have installed, eg Viper, etc... that you can check/get to?
I have no sound modification installed. I checked the settings but there seems to be no part adressing this issue. The same problem happens when i use different apps like skype, google duo and signal. Could it be a hardware problem? The microphone works fine when i record a video or recording audio.
Maybe.
Rooted? If so, and you've done a full, clean install, and sure that the install is working ok, maybe try another custom ROM.
Normal calls work, as I get you it's (just) video calls? Another possibility, I'd consider looking up mic sensitivity and ways to decrease it. On the OnePlus One I am aware there was a configuration file folks could mess with to try and resolve that phone's mics over sampling. That was a common issue for many.
Have you tried turning the volume down and see if that has any effect?
Wish I could offer more ideas, I have used video calls maybe 3 times in 8 years.
The phone is not rooted. This problem occurs only when i use internet based videocalls (skype, google duo). The volyme is not usually high when i call. Thank you for your time, hopefully i will find a solution soon.
Frustrating. Good luck.

My phone doesn't record audio

Hello,
I just took my first video using the phone today, then I noticed audio is not recorded. I tried several times, both high-res and 3D audio, but there was no audio. Checked both on my phone and my laptop. I even installed Google Camera app, but the video from there still didn't have audio.
Then I used Voice Recorder app to record audio, and interestingly it did not record audio either. 3rd party voice recorder app didn't record audio either!
There is no problem when I call, my voice is heard clearly from the other phone. I checked the permissions of the camera apps / recorder apps, and microphone is ticked.
What could be the problem? This is very frustrating. Please help!
EDIT:
I just installed a 3rd party camera app, took a video, and the app gave a video with audio. Then I tried stock camera app, which also gave audio. Then voice recorder app, which also gave audio. It seems to work now. I didn't do anything special, didn't reboot the phone, etc. I have no idea what happened...
It is quite possible that one of the apps didn't release the connection to the microphone "for whatever reason". If you encounter problems with hardware the first option is reboot. The reason for this is all of the external and internal connections to hardware get reset. Most apps rely on the drivers within the os and sometimes those connections don't get closed because of crap coding or bugs in the os itself.
Most phones will have a hidden self test menu. It is worth a Google to find that code and test the hardware when things go a bit wierd.
Hope that helps.

Now that I thought about it again, I think you are right. One of my apps might have been in love with the microphone so that it did not allow other apps to use the mic. I have no idea which app had that kind of love, but anyway, yeah thank you for the comment!
