Need my GS5 ROOTED in New Orleans, Galaxy S5 16GB. Will pay if done properly. - Verizon Galaxy S 5 General

If you can do it, go ahead and contact me.
Prefer New Orleans local.
Still have over a year on contract, but stupidly contracted for a 16gb s5.
It's full. Can't install any apps, though I still have the 64GB microsd which is basically unusable.

Root will not help install apps on microsd. You need a rom for that. Download EMMC brick bug check from the play store and send a screenshot of it.

If all you are looking for is more space to install apps wouldn't it be easier to take the update to Android 6.01 and use the Adoptable Storage feature? Of course you didn't mention which carrier you are using. I can only speak for Verizon which has rolled out 6.01.

Thank you.
Screenshot attached. I was under the impression that root was required to install apps to the sd card. The phone gives an option for moving apps, but IRL it's less than probably 5% of the space.
16gb on this phone is only 12 after bloatware... UGH
ETA: I do have a custom ROM (NOVA Launcher?) but it doesn't help in that regard.

I was basing my comment regarding adoptable storage from info from another XDA Thread that indicated a method used on the S7 also works for the S5. Haven't tried it though.

Nope. All the space freed is on the system partition, which apps cannot be installed to.

Cripes.
Any advice for dealing with Verizon in a case like this?
I've spent hours on the phone with them attempting to switch out this phone early (a year left), but all I hear are excessive costs for "upgrades", even after I said I'd be willing to go back to a 64gb S3.

Do you have your old phone? If not, buy one. They're dirt cheap.

Can you download samsung info from the play store and post screenshots of general and firmware tabs?

After rooting, copy all data from the SD card to prepare to format and partition. Personally, I used Apps2SD PRO: All in one tool. It created the partitions, mounted the second to internal storage and left the balance as SD storage.
Used TB to backup app data, then deleted and restored through market to free up internal memory, then restored the data. Had no issues.
From what I've read, it seems that there is question that Link2SD may be a superior way to create the additional internal storage. Apps2SD worked for me, so I didn't do further research. YMMV.
The workaround for the S7 did not work on my phone with MM. You could list the disks, but setting the force flag and partitioning as private did not work.
Good luck.

Anyone Recieve Update On ATT?

The Official update page. If someone receives us tell us so we can all enjoy actually using our SD cards
I still haven't
Fun Fact: My phone was rooted but I wanted this update so I factory reset it and now it is not rooted - alternative to using ODIN So you can receive the update!
I check for updates daily and so far nothing.

You guys will be refreshing for a long while. I would not expect ATT to release this for a month or two if not longer unless Samsung releases it via Kies. Plus I would wait until we confirm root and Loki works on it or you will regret you ever updated.
Plus from what I read the move to SD card is a joke it moves app but not data. Example the app for a game can be 15mb but the data it downloads can be 2gb in size. Well the 15mb would move but not the 2gb.

Yeah I was looking at how the big games I have put their large extra files into data.
Advanced rooted users could move them microSD and then symlink to them, and don't need an update to do it...
I'm looking at Asphalt 7 and it is just one big 1.05GB file (is that typical?) so it would be pretty easy for those who have root and know their way around the terminal (or ROM toolbox apparently has a 'create shortcut' function).

I would normally agree with you about this, but the AMDL update was pushed pretty quick for this phone and Designgears already has his hands on a leak of the new firmware updatet. So I would say it might come out a little sooner than updates for other phones are released. But it's still hard to know exactly when.
For everyone else...
I'm not sure why people with AT&T S4s are checking for this OTA anyway? The only safe way to get it will be to let the DEVs check it and release it. With the I9505 update already being cooked into ROMs, I doubt there will be any further benefit to the AT&T release. Give it a little time and more DEVs will safely include it in future ROM updates if they choose to. It is their choice.
When AT&T does start to push this OTA, DO NOT INSTALL IT! Wait until the final release has been checked and cleared by the DEVs. Consider this a warning so if you install it or do not protect yourself from it auto-installing, it is your own fault! No excuses.

In it's raw released form, it is useless, but Developers are already using portions of the update in their AT&T ROMs.
Example...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2313469
Again, I highly recommend you do not touch the AT&T version of the update (when it is released) until DEVs can rip out the safe parts and make them available to AT&T users. It's up to you if you want to take the chance or not.

You can download foldermount from the play store and have it move app data to the sdcard and remount it there. It creates the symlink automatically works very well but you have to be rooted.

Spotify is only a couple Mb if not less. What you have to do is contact the developer of the app to include save downloads to sd if its not already available.

SD card or not? I don't think is a problem, with a 32GB phone you have plenty of space. Now, if you like having a lot of music, photos, videos and movies it might not be enough. The SD card option is always welcome, after reading all of google reasons not to include a SD card on the nexus line up, I still don't get it. Is always nice to have some extra space.

You wouldn't have had to remove the sdcard. Just mount USB mass storage from recovery
adb push is only a minor inconvenience. You should be able to do it in your sleep.

None of my phones have had one, so while I may not know what I'm missing it seems I'm fine without it. Last phone was 16GB and currently at 32GB. I only ever keep a few albums of music on at one time, and I delete most videos or games when I'm done with them.
If I did use one I would make sure to buy the fastest SD card avaiable that cost 3x as much, as I would not want it to become a bottleneck.

32gb is definitely not enough. I need that amount of space just for my apps, and AT LEAST another 32gb for my music. That's one of the main reasons why I always have an iPhone as well- more storage space. I had the 64gb iPhone 5s and it was maxed. My 32gb N5 is maxed, and I don't have a single song on it. I can't stand streaming music.

I hear you, but Google Play Music is not bad, the problem is that you need to have internet to listen to your songs... but i wanted more space for my music, I have over 80gb of music on my PC and I wanna be able to play them on my phone without having to stream it thru Play Music
I have an old iPod Video (1st gen) that I se for my music, it has 120GB and it's almost maxed with videos and music
For me, Play music just doesn't cut it. Every file I've ever listened to from Play has had horrible compression artifacts. Spotify extreme quality is passable in a pinch, but I like my lossless files. ALAC on iPod/iPhone, FLAC on everything else.

Just stick an SD card in and use that for the compatible ones. Most big apps like games and things will happily sit on SD and download their additional data to it. If you get a nice speedy class (6 or above) you'll have no problem.

only the D6616 variant will have 32 GB of internal storage. AFAIK the UK will receive the D6603.

No they dont. Its a real problem. Sony dont do one phone that has more than 16GB in Europe. Although the old short lived xperia T did.
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
I own Xperia TX and still use it.... Never has Sony done more than 16GB except for some special case imports.... the phone will be out of date by the time you can get your hands on one... worse than that is Android not allowing you to switch anything you like onto SDCard.. Its bad enough that they reserve X GB for system and not allow non critical apps to be completely stored on SDCard.

Sigh. If you don't want to root then don't. There's loads of apps you can't use if unrooted and I for one wouldn't dream of using a banking app on an insecure, unencrypted mobile device that is prone to be lost or stolen.
I was pointing the way to a mod that helps to save large amounts of space on internal storage. No matter how much internal storage you have, it will always free up some. It's not a replacement for larger internal storage, but a utility that performs a specific and useful function. If you don't want to use it, maybe others reading this thread might want to give it a spin.

Is there a way to root this phone yet? I would love to. I used easy root tools for the Z2 and it made the phone so much more useable. I don't want to flash any roms or anything like that. I simply want access to some of the great root required apps in the playstore.
Thanks
You can gain root access with unlocked bootloader, check development forum.

Oculus apps to sdcard

Is there a way to move oculus apps to sdcard? I've just started using this thing and only 14.81 Gb is left . Reminds me Htc desire times, when we had ~140 mb of internal storage.. Well apps on those days were 100 kb - 2 mb in size Now oculus eats gazillions bytes of precious internal storage.
I skimmed few articles about adoptive storage, but as far as I understand Samsung throwed this away
I thought you could move most apps to SD card, have you tried?
If it cannot move the Oculus apps to SD, then VR is going to flop. As 32 GB (24GB actually) is really insufficient to hold regular + VR apps.

Give this a try http://www.modaco.com/news/android/...e-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632/
I went to one of my games for example and changed the storage location and it moved everything. I had to go to the application manager to do it. when you open the application in there just select the storage type which mentions internal and select internal and click move. worked like a charm
Thank you @peachpuff I will try that
@milesk182 I know this feature but it does not work on oculus apps

@vukis, can you confirm that @peachpuff's solution works? I've only had my phone for about a month and am already out of space!!! I'll be more than happy to go buy a larger SD card if this method will work.

Yes it works, make sure type out the disk stuff properly and migrate data at the end.
Didn't work for me - many Oculus games and apps don't give you the option to move them to the external storage (yes, even with adoptable storage configured).

Well crap! Haven't bought my card yet. Waiting for a good deal on a 200GB, I only have a 32GB now. Maybe by then they'll fix this. I have about 6 or so VR apps/games and it's killing my space! How did they miss this? Seems like such a blunder to give these headsets out on a phone with limited memory and not give people the ability to add more!
Can confirm. With latest Samsung update can move regular apps to sdcard but not a single oculus app or game can move to adoptable storage.

The phone should have come with 64GB option really. The SD card, even the Samsung Evo Pro+ is slow. Actually, the internal memory controler for the SD card is half the speed of what the Pro+ supports on a PC. Sad really, and it's such a sweet phone. What a shame!

Probably on purpose because running huge VR games off a (possibly) slow SD card would cause performance issues.

To use the adaptable storage method you need at least a U3 card. I was about to buy one when I came across this app on google play:
Link2SD allows you to move Gear VR apps to external storage. I have moved 3 successfully and have not encounter a problem. There is a plus version which allows you to link after moving but I'm loving the free version so far!

+20GB space unaccounted for in all File managers. Ghost Data. Need help.

As you can see from the 2 pics, my phone shows 92Gb used in settings whereas multiple different file managers show my entire used Storage/ SD to be precisely 68.92Gb.
Where is this ghost data from and how can i find it?
PS this is not an error because the available space is indeed according to 92GB space filled. So only 23gb left.
Any advice is highly appreciated.
I have had very good success with the app SDmaid to clarify those occurences (aside from many other useful features of this app)
Have you tried to backup your important data then format down everything? I know this solution is not the best but perhaps can help you
use sd maid

Silly me mixed a few things and didn't realize file managers were not including app+data+obb
I can't believe i never saw this amazingg gem before!
I just bought the pro version because its so freakin awesome!
i always use DiskUsage so that you can see which folders take up the space.

Damn, what a fantastically simple app! Thanks man! Love how i find such hidden gems in this community :victory:
only thing i could tell was that it is showing my full storage to be 108gb which is probably incorrect. I think 128Gb model gets atleast 116GB storage fpr use.
Do u have 128gb storage model?

yea, i have the 128 model and when i first got the phone it said 116gb but i think not the OS takes up 20 GB so it leaves me with 106-108 and then i got like 12gb of data so i am already at 94gb, which is still enough but i really hate how big the android system takes up and guess it has to do with the A and B partition also.

Oh wow, i didn't know that. I think ur right because i went to the root folder in diskusage and there was the entire system, away from the /SD 108gb, so this is separate data worth 20gb or so! Damn :/
