Hello there,
I have noticed a few low end phones that are using 64 bit MTK cpus are running 32 bit roms of lollipop.
Although most apps on the market may be 32 bit anyway, it just seems odd to use the older version.
I doubt there much in it it terms of speed, but some of these phones may never get an update, also the 64 bit chip phones are more
money the 32 bit versions.
My oneplus is super fast and I think is 32 bit, however I was looking out I for spare backup phone for about £60 and at that price, I think every little bit helps.

I am going to spend some money on buying a CDMA android device pretty soon for my father. Its a unlocked CDMA phone running android 2.3. Model (MTS mtag 352) which is actually a zte device. The deal is I am able to buy a new piece for only $80.
Details:

The device won't be used for multimedia much at all. Very rarely for browsing. Mainly for phone and contact management. No audio storage no video storage either.
My only worry is the device sports only 256 mb ram and 140 mob internal memory. So do you think for the usage I described , the mentioned specs are good enough ? Mainly memory ?
Apologies if the post is not in the right section, but I couldnt find the device having a specific forum section so am posting this in q and a here.

buy to him a jiayu g3, 2750mha battery, 1g ram, dual core cortex a7, 4,5 screen, sd support, gorila glass, 2 sim capacity, and more! and isnt expensive, it can be chinese, but it is even better that this. i love it, or a jiayu g2, it is nearly the same, but a bit smaller with less things
if you can pay more than 80, or a jiayu g1 even cheaper, there are very cheap phones in internet

The thing is even though I want to buy better I am avoiding purposely. In India currently there are absolutely no good android CDMA handsets. While I did think of getting from us via eBay, it won't help much. He uses his phone for nothing other than talking. So In my view a android device with gtalk is better than non his android CDMA device.
So what's your view regarding that device. I am mainly worried about running out of memory with only sms and contacts.

Can someone tell me if one can manage with 128 mob internal memory on a android device ? If its not used for any applications , just contacts, phone calls,SMS and gtalk at most. ?

Hey all. Im thinkin about putting together a computer to build roms. I have an idea of what i want.
Now i was wondering if i could get some ideas from devs or home builders with experience.
Now this is what id like to build
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XpwKK8
Now im wondering. Would an i7 really be all that much better at building roms than a amd fx 8 core?
I would like to play some games also but they dont have to be perfect.
Just looking for opinions
From my past experience, you will need lots of RAM to complete builds quickly.
You might want to consider increasing your current 8gb to at least 16gb or even 32gb. And using a SSD will save you a lot of time as well, but I don't know how much you're willing to spend.
First of all, I would recommend with the i7 because in my experience Intel has always worked much more smoothly and easily with Linux. And like the guy above me mentioned lots of ram and an ssd would help you greatly.

What distro of Linux do you plan on using?
You should post your budget so we know what you can buy.
i7 over amd fx...not that i hate amd products,am a big fan except for its CPU that overheat a little bit

Looks solid. Just get 16 GB of RAM if you can. You won't need the GTX 760 to build android from source; but I think you choose that part to do some gaming instead.
You might want a SSD as your boot drive. Using a SSD to store and compile android from source may not be the best idea as the entire process needs quite a bit of space. But hey, that's up to you to decide.
And uh for Linux distro to use, some suggestions are Elementary OS or Linux Mint. Recent Ubuntu (14.04) seems very strange to use. Then again, there's a lot of distros to choose from, so give them a try down the line.
Sorry for the late response, but thanks for the replies.
Right now im using xubuntu 14.04.
Im not very experienced but im learnin. Just learned how to build slim from source and im typing on the rom i built right now, its stock slim. Id like to learn how to cherry pic stuff so i can make it my own, then maybe one day be able to write my own source code.
So, I guess id use xubuntu, has worked so far. Unless theres a better suggestion or reason to use something ells.
I plan to piece this rig together over a month or two or however long it takes. I guess my budget is sorta endless, $1,000 is more than i would like to spend, but id like to have a pretty darn good rig. It doesnt have to be the absolute fastest computer in the world, but id like to be up there. Ive heard lots of good things about the gpu and cpu i picked and kinda set on it. Id maybe change to a cheaper i5 equivalent, i heard the i7 isnt a huge difference in gaming as most games dont utilize HT. But i assume it would help build roms.
So anyway, im ok with spending $800-$1,000 to have a great rig to start. But I always plan on adding to it. This list is just to get me going, first id maybe buy the MB, then the cpu, then the case, then maybe a 8gb stick of ram and a hdd etc.
In the end, id like to have at least 16gb of ram, dunno if more would make a difference
And have maybe 2 250gb ssd, one with windows 7 installed and the other with linux installed (dont know if thats possible) then 2 1tb 64mb hd's and another gpu, which i believe the mb i picked is not good for dual gpu's so i might need to find a different mb
Edit: well, now that i think about it. 2 250's might be over kill, maybe 2 80's or 64's just for the os
Anybody got any good suggestion s on ssd's? I heard they dont last very long without some tweaking. But, what are some dependable brands?
Create multiple partitions and dual boot lol
&& Yes you can put multiple SSD's with different OS on them. Ideally you want the OS on the SSD because they're extremely fast. Just get a high RPM HDD for storage tbh. I'm pretty sure mods will delete my link if I post one, so just Google newegg and see what they have to offer
Hallo to all!
In the past days there a ton of rumors that says Android L will support 64bit. So my question is will our NEXUS 5 support this 64bit to and what benefit can we expect from it?
Hope someone can answer my question. :silly:

I honestly think with people freaking out about when its going to launch and since I/o there have been some things thrown out of proportion or misconstrued. They said L supports 64 bit which the processor in the nexus 9 will have but as you've probably read here its not happening yet on a phone. L does support 32,bit also. Google never said its 64 or nothing its UP to 64 bit. So whatever the nexus 6 has it will support L. Otherwise what's the point of saying L will support older devices.

I've always been under the impression that you need 64-bit operating systems to break the 4 GB of RAM threshold. Meaning, 2^32 = 4,294,967,296 (4 GB being theoretical, the OS will claim more)
So a device like the Nexus 5 which has 2 GB of RAM, would see zero benefit other than possibly supporting apps that target only 64-bit architecture. Those apps likely won't even exist.
Since Android presently only supports 32 bit, Every android phone on the market now only has a 32 bit CPU.
Hi all,
looking for a nice smartphone that sports a big battery life, I've always had 3GB of RAM as a second must. Now I've got my eye on a phone that comes in 2GB and 3GB version. I've read on this forum in a couple of older posts that 2GB should be more than enough (normal use) and that 3GB is future proofing or for heavy multi taskers.
Is this still true? Or is 3GB RAM the best buy these days? What is more RAM good for? Is 2GB of RAM enough with the new Lollipop version? Will 2GB be enough in one years time?
Hope someone can shed some recent light on this subject!
Sewrizer said:
Could you be more specific? RAM usage depends on ROM: vanilla android takes a small amount, therefore 2GB should be enough. Touchwiz, on the other hand takes a lot more ( Note 3 SM-N9005 uses 2,1GB out of 2,75). This is just a guideline, of course, but I am sure Samsung, LG and HTC will make their heavy theming and bloating even heavier.

I will try! atm I am looking at the HUAWEI Mate 7 as a possible new phone. Massive battery, slim bezels! In my country the 2GB version is standard, the 3GB version will be a lot more difficult to purchase ( and of course, it is more expensive).
That is why I wonder if 2GB is enough on a phone that I will most likely use in 2014 and 2015. Can they run the latest android versions that will be coming up, and most apps without problems? Or if 3GB already is the standard and I shouldn't settle for a phone that has less?
I know it is a very general question, but I hope I've given enough information for a good answer. :good:
P.s.: I think this question should have been posted in Q&A section.

If it does, my appologies, and I would not mind anyone moving it.
Thanks for your opinion! It keeps the Mate 7 at the top of my list atm
Yeah you should def go for the mate 7, its a good phone and i have my eyes on it also
My Nexus 5 has always full Storage and it p****s me off. I searched for Storage Upgrade posiibiloties and found a thread from a dude upgrading his storage to 64gb. So i decided to try that to with an spare nexus 5. I also found a post about nexus 5x users upgrading their ram to 4gb. So I researched and found out that the Nexus 5 uses the "H9CKNNNBPTMRLR-NTM" RAM-Chip.
It says that it has 216-ball fbga socket and i searched for similar chips with 216-ball socket with more capacity. Since the snapdragon 800 is a 32-bit chip it'll "only" support 4gb ram. I found the "H9CKNNNBPTATDR" and need to know if it has the same pinout as the "H9CKNNNBPTMRLR-NTM".
I cant find enough information about the chips and contacting the Manufacturer doesn't work for me :crying: (cant register somehow)
Hope you can help me
Count me in!

I don't have any answers for you, but if an extra nexus 5 would help you experiment, let me know. I have many of these devices and obviously the ram is a huge bottleneck, especially running 7 or 8 ROMs.
Also, you may get more action on the dedicated Nexus 5 subforums on this site.
Good luck!

An extra nexus 5 would be very nice. Where are you from and what do you want for it?
On ebay also the defectives are way too expensive. Like >30€
I'll try to put the thread into the nexus subforum! Thx!
