Nice writeup. (Hit thanks) Don't really have any experience with nvflash, but most people say it's safer than cwm because if your stuck in a boot loop, you are screwed. So, my question is, (I came from the Vibrant), and we sometimes used what was called Odin to flash back to stock. Is this kind of like the same thing?
Great writeup, one minor addition perhaps. On XP, I had to keep the volume keys held while the recovery.img file was written to my device. If I removed the volume keys the bootloader failed to initialize.

It is, just without the convenient UI.
Another piece that may help people, I had to put my battery back into the device. So remove battery, hold volume keys while plugiging in USB, put battery back in. Without this last piece NVflash couldn't finish.
love that you made this. I ran into one problem. Not sure if this ia noob thing or just me, but can you add to your steps that you can only run one nvflash command at a time. after each command you have to unplug and replug in the USB cable. After i installed the driver and unplugged the phone, when i replugged in the phone i ran nvflash --sync to make sure the phone was plugged it ok. Once i just ran the recovery flash command after plunging in the phone it jumped to the software screen and all was fine. Thanks for the steps also to add your recovery link still doesn't work.
edit: I did not need to have the battery in and all for the recovery flash.

i've done this many times already, and on other devices in the past. with the g2x i never had the battery in the phone. but if that works for you, amen!
I noticed this is simalar to the instructions here .. Just a suggestion but I would give credit to the original poster.. I've been around android for a bit and this can cause some tension when people don't show appreciation.. Other then that I used your instructions to install recovery, it worked for me.. The only issue I had is you stated:
"step 3--
download clockwork recovery test2-- http://mirror.dal.tdrevolution.net/c...h-recovery.tgz . extract it.
in the extracted folder of cwm recovery test2, copy all the files except for test2.img and nvflash and put them in your nvflash folder."
I tried this and it kept failing install of img.. I had to put all files in my nvflash folder for it to work...
Wanted to get some input from the experts in this forum.
I bought and rooted my Nexus S (i9020T) the day the phone was available in the USA. I have tried various ROMs and kernels from these forums and have been extremely happy with the phone.
Several weeks ago the phone was completely submerged in water when I rolled my truck in a creek. I placed the phone in a bag of rice for about a week, and when I turned it on for the first time it only showed the Google screen with the unlocked boot loader icon at the bottom. I pulled the battery, and checked to see if I could get into fastboot mode, and I could. However, I couldn't boot into recovery.
I have completely disassembled the phone and cleaned the board(s) and contacts with 91% alcohol and again let it sit in rice for over a week -- still the same: can only boot into fastboot.
What I have tried in fastboot:
Flashed recovery - tried multiple(original, clockwork mod, clockwork mod touch, etc.) but still won't boot into recovery.
Extracted boot and bootloader images and flashed them, still no change.
Erased everything -- successfully except for bootloader (maybe you can't erase the boot loader???)
After erase, tried reflashing -- all successful (boot, bootloader, recovery, even tried radio), but no boot, only fastboot mode.
So, does this sound like a lost cause? Time to trash the phone? I don't have much experience with this stuff, only what I have learned since getting the Nexus S. Is there a way to flash a rom without recovery mode? Where would I get such a ROM? I tried using the OTA update in fastboot mode, but it wasn't recognized. I just extracted the boot and bootloader images from the update and flashed them…
I appreciate any input.
I realize the nand or something else could be bad after getting wet, so I am not expecting any miracles, just trying to exhaust my options before moving on.

Rather than buy a new phone, try look for a new motherboard for Nexus S
I would drown the board in isopropyl alcohol again then blast it dry with air. Be really thorough.
You might try baking the board in an oven it if that doesn't work, to melt the contacts. Do some research first! You don't want to burn anything. Just a high enough temperature to melt solder, and the minimum amount of time.
I had exactly the same problem with my mother's nexus s, she dropped it in water, full submersion and it never worked again, it did exactly the same, show the Google logo, I even managed to unlock the bootloader through fastboot. But it wouldn't boot, nor could I flash anything through to it.
I can only assume that even after the drying the electrical charge from turning it on must have sort of fried something. How's the truck?
The memory! The hard drive in the phone must have been corrupted and damaged. There is nothing for the boot loader to load, since the HD is broken. Good luck
oops! accidentally beamed from my awesome NEXUS S!

I unlocked my friends Htc desire S
unlocked the boot loader, but didnt think much of it at the time - rooted and installed superuser from recovery (Clockworkmod Recovery)..
A few days later he got a push notification for an update
(don't ask what number as i have no idea) he tried to update (OTA - which he said froze so he turned it off...) and for all his effort he got a brick.
We can't seem to get it to boot into either boot loader menu or the recovery mod to restore his back up.
I have read other threads but i don't think any of these things will help.
Thanks in Advance

Is adb working?
Is the phone dead stiff or are there any signs of live within it?
Edit: have you tried pulling the battery out (take it off for a minute or so )
When you insert it back try to boot again ( in to bootloader)
Write back , we may try to brainstorm it

Sometime ago i've found a post where the OP, reveals the method
for recovering a phone from brick...
Funny thing is that he (OP ), uses that same method to brick a phone your friend have chosen for
to break up his... try to search for it- it is somewhere here onXDA
anyway, ...

In that thread, many questions have been answered- try there as well
Hey Everyone,
Recently the touchscreen on my HTC Sensation stopped working, including the capacitive buttons. I pulled the battery to reset it (several times), but still the problem persisted. I then though that maybe I should do a full wipe and reflash my ROM (CM10.1 AOSP 4.2.2 Jellybean [KANG]) but I have CWM Touch installed and therefore can not achieve this from the phone. I then searched for ways to flash the ROM from the PC through adb, but haven't had much luck at finding a precise step-by-step guide on how to do this. I searched through XDA and found a thread outlining a 'foil trick' to fix a potential grounding problem, however this did not resolve the issue.
Question 1: Is this (most likely) a digitizer issue?
Question 2: If not, is it possible to flash CWM Recovery (not Touch) over the top of the Touch version FROM MY PC so that I can reflash my ROM?
Question 3: If not possible, can someone please outline the steps to be taken to wipe and flash a ROM FROM MY PC?
I have attempted to connect my phone to my PC and flash the ROM using UniFlash, but my PC does not recognise my phone as being connected. I have made sure that the drivers are installed and HTC Sync is uninstalled, but it still does not recognise the phone being connected. Cannot check if USB-Debuggung is turned on as I cannot use the touchscreen.
Anything else I should try?
Thanks,
Matt
Edit: the screen itself lights up, I can receive texts, calls, etc. but I cannot actually interact with the phone due to the touchscreen issue
Hi yh id say ul need new digitizer, they cheap on ebay. Anyway if ur s-off u can use fastboot commands to flash non touch recovery. go here
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Download non touch recovery (rename file to recovery.img)
Then go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317536
Setup adb & fastboot
Once uv setup everything, put recovery.img in the fastboot folder then boot ur phone into fastboot mode (turn off phone then press n hold volume down + power then select fastboot) connect to pc and now shoud say fastboot usb. Now open command window from fastboot folder (shift right click, open cmd window here) then type
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
U now should have non touch recovery
If im honest, if ur digitizer is broke then a full wipe and fresh flash of rom wont make a difference, but u can try.
You can try this thread aswell for some other fixes

Thank you for your reply, your instructions about installing CWM Recovery were incredibly straight forward and made the process of re-flashing my ROM very easy. Unfortunately, re-flashing my ROM didn't help (wasn't expecting it to, in all honesty) so it looks like I will have to replace the digitizer Hopefully this relatively cheap fix will solve the problem. The thanks button has been pressed

Yh didnt think it would either. Did u try the last link to touchscreen fix? Theres a couple of things there u can try, also the pic i posted, u could try that too. It fixed my touch screen problem. Anyway i know off ebay u can get a digitizer for no more than 20 euro, i baught one off there for my desire s for 10 euro and its perfect, they fairly easy to change urself. I did my own with no problems, just make sure the seller gives 3m double sided tape with it so u can stick the digitizer to the lcd.

Yeah I tried the things in the link and what you suggested in your picture but nothing worked. I pulled my phone apart and I'm going to pick up a new digitizer (and tape) tomorrow. Hopefully that'll sort everything.
Matt
I replaced my digitizer with no problems. Or so I thought. My phone does not turn on! Battery indicator shows that the battery is recharged, so this is not the issue. Everything seems to be plugged/clipped into place. Could I have placed tape (3m sticker) over something important without realising it?
Any ideas?
Matt
What happens when the phone is off then u press power button? Does it vibrate as if it turns on?
Take off the back battery cover n try turn it on without the cover, if nothing then i suppose ul have to take it apart again and check if everything is connected

+1.
How are you going with this? Does it vibrate, does it not make HTC boot music? I'm wondering if the screen is hooked up properly.
I knew I should have backed up the rom once i rooted the device /facepalm
If anyone who has picked up the tablet and rooted it can dump the stock rom,
Id GREATLY appreciate it , as Im getting nowhere with customer service and I refuse to send it in.

Did you ever have any luck with this? I've got an R1 that hangs at the Pioneer logo and won't go any further. Additionally, my attempts to find out how to get to recovery mode have been fruitless.
utter trash tablet
I managed to dump the stock rom but without anyway to boot into recovery, it was worthless.
As far as anyone could tell me there is NO recovery mode for that tablet and the only way to fix it is to send it back.
I ended up sending the tablet in for a replacement , and that one lasted a month, the next one lasted 2 months, and i repeatedly communicated thru email to the actual tablet manufacture esi. After 3 replacements they authorized a full refund.
Which i used 16 $ to buy a used nook hd and promptly installed kitkat on.
Esi's email is : [email protected]

Outstanding - I hadn't had any luck getting a good contact method.
I'm with you that it's crap, but I got it for free and I don't like it when technology beats me.
I'll email them and see if I can get a hold of the files I need to flash.
Thanks!
(note: I read your other thread first)

Have you had any luck with esi ? The last time I brought up flashing the tablet they told me they couldn't release it to me and they would look into building a recovery into an update.
Also , in handling 4 different units they seemed to vary by a large margin, 1 tablets WiFi was very weak, another was inverted ( everything displayed with the plug side at the top) hmmm let's see the 3rd one had issues switching to landscape mode. The last one was just slow straight out of the box, anything I did took 3x as long to load then my wife's nook HD.
Also if it helps in post 8 of this thread

I have a link to the stock ROM I compiled from the second tablet, I never got a chance to use it due to different problems with the 2nd to final tablet.
2nd slept on me and screen never came back on( returned)
3rd refused to charge after awhile, battery soldered to mainboard( returned)
4th went thru various "services are stopping" constantly, and finally wouldn't load after lock screen.
Keep in mind not only did I factory reset these tablets(inside the main settings menu) anytime it seemed like it wasn't responding properly, most of the issues never went away.

Thanx. I was going to try to change the bootanimation via a no- root method with the risk of going into boot loop. The bootloop then could be fixed my wiping the tablet clean. I'm wondering if that can be done via recovery or adb? Thanx. Also can u help me get CM on this tablet. Thank You in advance
