I haven't tried VR, but it doesnt overheat at all, only when charging. GPU can be a bottleneck with heavier apps though, but it should handle them.

If you tell me a specific app I'll try it, I just haven't used my cardboard for months.
EDIT: I've tried two apps, a Rollercoaster one, it ran well, but the gyroscope didn't. However it works in InMind VR, some microlags, but it is enjoyable. Phone became a bit warm though.

Cant try as Im away for a week or so, but I think you'll be okay with the A9. S800/801 gets much hotter than this, I've experienced it. The GPU is weaker than adreno 330, but it should be enough.
Btw 50 degrees Celsius isnt that hot IMO, it is a pretty normal operating temperature. If it ran over 70°, then it would throttle the frequencies.
EDIT: just checked the idle temperatures, it is around 30-40 degrees. My LG G2 with S800 ran around 40-45, so don't expect it to be much cooler.

It's really not good for VR. Processor is kinda slow for VR and the screen is only 1080P.

Pics taken straight from my galaxy s 2.
I have converted the maps to Blitz3d format and redid all the lighting using gile , I'm using a single 1024x1024 lightmap for each level.
I use the proton sdk which has a functional irrlicht port to load and render the levels on android.
The performance is pretty good, I get a constant 60fps in de_dust and fy_pool_day , and 55fps average in cs_assault, ofcourse you would know these maps if you have ever played cs
I will upload the apk if anyone wants that.
EDIT: http://www.mediafire.com/?30y17an70yvxe65
I've also included de_dust2 but it's buggy, lots of textures aren't loading.
Anyone who tries this, it'd be nice if you post your frame rates here.
LOL that's awesome. be more fun if we could play cs on our phones lol
I would love to play around with this. I'm honestly surprised by your FPS data.
Could you upload the apk please? Thanks.
hell yeah !! Upload already!!
Ok I will upload the apk later.
Uploading , it'll be up shortly
EDIT: it's up!
In my Desire S i get 27 FPS on de_dust and 54 on fy_pool_day in cs_assault like 20
On my Droid x: cs_assault: 29-30; de_dust: 31-32; fy_pool_day: 55-57
Very nice!
I'm pretty sure the performance will boost if I reduce the lightmap size, 1024x1024 seems too big for mobile gpus.
Got an HTC Evo Running Synergy RC1
Getting some pretty mediocre framerates comparatively..
CS_Assault - 17-20 FPS
DE_Dust - 24-28 FPS (Never got above 31)
DE_Dust - 23-26 FPS
FY_Pool_Day - 26-30 FPS
I get 54 FPS constant in the menu.
If I remember correctly, I got 50+ in all maps.

Damn, that gave me some serious flashbacks from my old LAN party days... I could almost smell the sweat and feel the taste of Jolt Cola in my mouth hehe... the lowest frame rate i got was 49 on all maps and a an all over framerate of 49 - 56. Good hummingbird *pats on head*. Love your work man. Cheers!

I'm very surprised at how well this runs. I'm getting about 25 fps on my T-Mobile G2 (same as Desire-Z) @ 1.1 GHz.
I know that sometime our sensation gets hotter when used for highend gaming or while watching HD movies for long times. But my Sensation gets way too hot.. I mean scary hot.. it becomes almost dificult to hold in hands and feel as if its going to go BOOM!
i am on Hypernonsense 1.5 rom now, which btw is underclocked(1.08ghz) rom. Usualy ARHD roms(1.5ghz) makes my sensation hot even while surfing through internet. i found the hypersensation roms to be the best rom that keep my sensation cool.
the point is if dual core heats the hell out of phone whats the use of it? i mean i used to play same games on my single core android devices like galaxy tab and on my nexus s as well and they used to get hotter after hrs of usage. while my sensation starts gets hotter in like 5mins and by 15mins i have to quit gaming, because of the insanly increasing temprature...
is there any solution to this? i hope my sensation doesnt need micro-liquid-cooling kit! lolz.. Does usually all dual core devices behaves like this?

yes me too....one question...i have problems with mc3..it wont load on time compared to my desire hd on multiplayer and it hangs a lot...do you have the same problem...??
I would talk to HTC about it. They may be willing to help.
ROM?
Btw when you guys were playing games on your Sen, what rom were you guys on? I have never been on stock rom. The moment i got it, i started playing around different roms..
Since ARHD ROMs have OC GPU set up by default maybe it might be heating up the phone. Specially the bottom back side heats up as HELL!! Also the battry sucks up like 5%/min. I was playing Gun Bros Offline and my battry was about 30%, and after completing a few levels i.e. about 5/10mins of gaming the battry was 8%....
Man!! I feel my Galaxy TAB was like WAY better. I used to play about 4hrs with wifi and bluetooth on for whole day +emails and browsing for more then 3hrs.. and still i got about 20hrs battry time...
May be ICS can give me better perfomance, since its optimized for dual core phones....
Running cm7 my phone goes up to 115-120 degrees while game. Youtube or some web browsing heats it up to around 100+.

my sensation xe got 45C when playing any games....
not normal at all!
Mine was getting that hot and eventually started blinking the LED light orange and green, then I'd get an "overheating" message and the phone would reboot. I bought an Anker battery and haven't had the problem since.
Could be a battery defect or you could try underclocking the cpu.

That would probably solve it, I guess... I havent had the issue myself after I underclocked it... Then again, I'm running MIUI.
Good, thought that I ws the only one having heat issues. My sensation would heatup to 50 degrees celsuis when playing modern combat 3 or shadow gun, and when you go to system info, it says "overheat" on the battery status. I hope this is not a rom or kernel issue.

UC works!
I UC to 1.08 and it seems to get prettly less hotter now..!! also the gaming perfomance did decrease a bit.. a very less noticable...
There are two reasons why i bought the sensation xe against the sensation, first is the beats earphone and second is the higher clock. Now i need to underclock to below the clock specs of the basic sensation? Wwwwwwaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!! When i have the time i will to revert to stock and try if it will still heat up, luckily I still havent sold me desire hd.

same thing here. I got the same result on my mothers phone as well
Is anyone else having trouble with playing emulators while HDMI outing to their TV while playing emulators? I tried some different test cases: Playing a mix of the different *oid emulators just on my phone, while using a ps3 controller, and while using a ps3 controller with the output being displayed on my TV. The only case in which I got unbearable lag and stuttering was when I use outputing to my TV through a monoprice MLH adapter. Everything ran smoothly otherwise. Furthermore I ran Cool Tool in the background to watch my cpu usage and even though it was lagging the cpu usage wasn't spiking or getting very high. Is anyone else having problem with HDMI out? I don't know why this faster phone can't even handle something my slower year old Atrix could
I believe most emulators aren't coded properly for ICS. I gave up on them for now. If you want a little boost, try out the dual core mod.
I have also noticed that emulators don't work as they did pre-ICS. My galaxy s2 running CM7 ran bit64/n64oid much smoother than my HOXL does on Clean Rom 2.6.
This is very infuriating. Using it as my phone as a retro game station used to be one of the biggest things I did with it and now I can't. Which emulators have people tried that don't seem to work that well on ICS? So far I know the oid ones at least don't seem to work too well.

Yea from my understanding a lot of emulator dev was being completed a while back, and then everything was taken off the market. A few new emulators are poping up again but they don't seem to be optimised for ICS or JB. A real shame as I too enjoyed the ol Mario 64 and GoldenEye.

How many pages back did you have to go to find this thread lol. But really since then I've found on most emulators the games are actually playing at full fps just fine, it's the audio that is lagging which makes playing them unbearable. On all of the oid's I was able to get no slow downs in video just fine. It's just the audio that sounds like crap. The DAC on these phones just seems to really suck.
Download the slideme market, and search "yongzh"

That's what I'm wondering. I have been trying to play FF9 for ages and just can't get it to run smoothly since he started trying to use opengl (started back on my Atrix) and just gave up. I tried again today and still no good.
I don't use opengl on mine. Although it makes a few things look prettier it messes up a lot of the effects in twisted metal, mainly smoke and water. For now I'm content with the default render settings.
Ah yeah well even my Atrix can do full speed software rendering with fpse. It looks so bad though especially the ff games which looked so good.

I got it cause I can get a hardware upgrade every 12 months so I figured what the hell, a free 3D phone how bad can it be.
My previous android was an xperia x10 which had just recently been having this issue where it would not want to record video.
The LG 3D worked fine for a few months but now I have to restart it at least once a day or the internet and phone capabilities will stop working. It wont turn off or anything but when I try to call something the dialer just keeps closing and the internet just wont connect. The battery is pretty bad, I got a fat aftermarket one on ebay but I can still take that down quite a bit in a day if Im actually using the phone. On top of that the music player has a constant inter-midden skip issues that are pretty annoying. As for the 3D I hardly ever use it since it doesnt do much good when its not on the phone. And Ive talked to a few other people with the phone and they arent happy with it either.
So is it LG that struggles to make a solid android or was this one just on the bottom end so they could slap a 3D label on it?

You are right and you are wrong.
You are right about the device out-of-the-box. LG ROMs are crap, period.
You are wrong because the developers here have done an AWESOME work improving this phone.
Try some custom roms (ThiaiZ, Promethius by Samno, Acura,...) and you'll see a BIG difference.

Gaming perfotmance should be nigh identical to then note 2014 which if you have read the forums you know chews through all the high end games out. With exception of a few that arent optimized yet. Its a bigger screen but in the end its pushing the same number of pixels so no difference. Actually might be better because of 4.4. Emulators also work very nicely and are my preference for gaming.

Unless resoultion changes there should be no difference, just as one should see no difference in frame rate when changing the size of monitor plugged into a PC as long as the monitors have the same resolution. The larger monitors simply have larger pixel sizes which in effect means they're the one doing the scaling for you, not the gpu. With similar hardware specs for both notes other than the display panel size one should expect the performance to be similar as well. Any variations in performance would likely be attributed to software improvements on the newer tablet.

That doesnt make any difference though. If the pixels are bigger (they shouldn't be) the gpu still sends the same number of signals and processess the same signals. It could be a 20 inch screen with the same overal pixel count and get the same performance. But anyways yes it rocks at gaming
