[Q] P900's Gpu - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I wanted to know whether the Mali Gpu has enough power to render HD Games on a 12.2 inch screen without lack of frames or not! Has anybody with the Exynos version installed HD Games(Like Modern Combat 4, Asphalt 8,...) to see whether it's smooth or it has lack of frames?? Thanks.

Gaming perfotmance should be nigh identical to then note 2014 which if you have read the forums you know chews through all the high end games out. With exception of a few that arent optimized yet. Its a bigger screen but in the end its pushing the same number of pixels so no difference. Actually might be better because of 4.4. Emulators also work very nicely and are my preference for gaming.

I know that the number of pixels are equivalent but the pixels in note pro are bigger!

Unless resoultion changes there should be no difference, just as one should see no difference in frame rate when changing the size of monitor plugged into a PC as long as the monitors have the same resolution. The larger monitors simply have larger pixel sizes which in effect means they're the one doing the scaling for you, not the gpu. With similar hardware specs for both notes other than the display panel size one should expect the performance to be similar as well. Any variations in performance would likely be attributed to software improvements on the newer tablet.

That doesnt make any difference though. If the pixels are bigger (they shouldn't be) the gpu still sends the same number of signals and processess the same signals. It could be a 20 inch screen with the same overal pixel count and get the same performance. But anyways yes it rocks at gaming

1080p in 3d

Hi lads can anyone explain what is keeping the device from shooting 1080p in 3d?
Sent from my LG-P920 using XDA Premium App
It's the lgsoftware... the prozessor is able to prozess 1080p videos in 3d.
It's only a matter of time...
My optimus 3D wrote it with xda app
Isn't it a restriction of the current 3D? as it seems odd there is 3x 3D phones, this, evo and the sharp and they all only do 3D @ 720p and the Sharp has 8mb cameras in also and the 3D snaps are restricted @ 2mp .
I suspect that the restriction affords us some extra battery life because processing that amount of dadta will not only saturate rvery bus in the phone and fill the memory rapidly, it will also hammer the battery life.

According to TI we can't. The only thing that might give us hope is that our chipset can record 3d with both cameras at 5mp not just at 2 or 3mp as it is now.
Aha, only the 4460 supports 1080p 3D. This is probably due to the higher clock speed though of 1.5ghz so if we eventually can overclock it could maybe be done. That is making the assumption that these SOCs are "binned" similarly to regular desktop cpus where all 44xx are 4460s but the ****tier batches recieve the designation 4430 and are sold at a lower clock speed.

Can you really see that much difference between 1080p and 720p? Personally I don't think the rather tiny quality differences would be worth the increase in file size that the 1080 quality video would bring, not to mention the reduction in battery life.
only we really need the phone to do is to record at 1080p which it already does, but putting each lens information into each side of it, just like the 720p does.. its not really 2X 1080p that gets recorded. its one 1080p cut in two
I find it weird that all the 3d phones have dual >5mp camera's but cant shoot abve 3mp...this makes me think the evo3d and the sharp have a second 2mp camera instead of a 5. And the optimus 3d got a second 3mp camera.
Prove me wrong...no one did research on this matter as far as i am aware.
I definitely can see a difference between 720p and 1080p especially when I watch it on a large screen(>50inches) and about the battery - if you would need 720p and less battery drain you just could switch between two of them but it would be very handy to have 3d full hd camera in your pocket

If you cant tell the difference between 720 and 1080 you have eye problems and should get them looked at.

[Q] External Monitor Questions

I'm looking into getting an external monitor for my TF700. 1920x1200 monitors start at about $100 more than otherwise similar 1080 ones. Will the difference in resolutions be a problem? Does the resolution of the monitor need to match the resolution of the device?
The external resolution will only go to 1080. Used to have crop and scale options before update to jb.

So it wouldn't make sense to buy anything at a higher resolution than that?
Sorry for posting twice in a row, but is there any benefit (or drawback) to using a 24" television as an external display compared to a 24" computer monitor of the same resolution?
With the same resolution, the only difference is really the audio since TVs usually have speakers/tuner and monitors usually don't.
No reason to get anything higher than 1080 unless you are doing something special other than connecting the infinity.

Bad graphics on games

I've been trying some games on my GT p3110 and I've noticed the graphics are pretty weak compared to other devices', games such as The Dark Knight Rises, MC4 and others. I'm uploading some printscreens of Blitz Brigade I took while playing. Check out the outlines of the shapes..Are your graphics better than this or it's normal on this device?

Our tab isn't the best option for games... maybe its normal for our tab.
the Nexus 7 with Tegra 3 is the best gamer tab!

First of all post high res pics .
And secondly i have tried many games(almost all good ones)
I don't see any graphics issue leaving games like real racing 3 which set graphics intensity according to devices(which can be set to high with some patches after which it too works great).

I guess they read the device specifications and automatically they include only resolutions that the device would run

But if they choose the graphical options automatically, why our devices run the same games at differently? Also, when I was playing Dungeon Hunter I could only switch between very low graphics and low graphics....why can't I choose better graphics?

U can probably do something similar with other games!

If you run custom ROMs like CyanogenMod or flash a custom kernel such as KK, you realise that most graphic issues are resolved. The problem lies mostly with the outdated/poor implementation of PowerVR drivers in Samsung's stock ROM. Custom ROMs & kernels are using newer drivers.
HM I tried to do that with the game in example (Real Racing 3) and it worked but I don't see how to do that with other games

There's some patching tool for Modern Combat 4 that can tweak the graphics if I recall. I think you can check in the HTC One X forum.
But that's beside the point, the main point being that the PowerVR SGX540 GPU is starting to feel a little underpowered as it shows its age. Even if you could force the games to run on high or max settings, performance would take a big hit, in some cases, the game slows to an unplayable pace.
The reason why there are patches, tools & mods to manually tweak graphics settings is because of the fragmented nature of Android, some devices have powerful hardware but have not been properly supported by the game developer yet.
---------- Post added at 04:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:41 PM ----------
By the way, I have checked out the screenshots in this thread, they seem fine?
I would recommend the threadstarter to check out these games on other PowerVR SGX540 devices for a better comparison. If these games look better on other PowerVR SGX540 devices, then it would warrant further investigation.
As I mentioned already, the stock Samsung firmware for P31xx uses older PowerVR drivers according to various modders. By switching to custom ROMs or kernels that implement newer PowerVR drivers, users have reported better graphic performance/compatibility in games.
Well i had bad graphics with brotherhood of violence
I had installed brotherhood of violence game and was surprised to see the difference in graphics between s2 and tab2 for the same game. Graphics were soo terrible that i had tp uninstall the game from my tab and had to play on s2....
Well one possibility to have better graphics is to overclock the gpu(more computations per second) and then use patches for higher settings in games... as previously mentioned in the thread some developers ( mainly gameloff) seriously cap the performance...
u can use any custom kernel like kk's blackhawk/next kernel or dhollem kernel to overclock the GPU... see their respective threads for more info..
Our tabs GPU is clocked at 304mHz by default in stick and cm... these kernels allow overclocking 384mHz and 512mHz..
so the problem of frame rate drops when using patches can be solved by overclocking the GPU...
But we need to remember that Powervr540 is at least 4 yr old technology( i first saw it in galaxy s)... so we need to cut it some slack...
Cheers

HD playback

Afternoon all.
Recently got an upgrade and since I wasnt to fussed on the S5 I decided to get a Xperia Z1. .
Bad choice since id gotta used to samsung from S2 owned all S devices. . .so luckily i was given the chance to swap the xperia to a lovely note 3
I really like it and since the specs dont differ much from the upcoming S5 ( camera slighty better and 2.5 ghz instead of notes 2.3) its a good choice i feel.
What i have noticed is the pixel density is lower from S4 and S5 but i really dont see it the difference in fact the note 3 screen seems better?
Anyway sorry for long intro but when i play HD youtube or even the HD helicopter video included on phone i cant help but think the HD isnt as clear or good as the S4 . .
Could that be the pixel density or something else?
Cheers guys

Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
HD on Youtube isn't really HD. It's 'close enough to fool everyone who can't tell the difference between 720 and 1080'.
They've compressed the video so tightly it' s become blurry. You don't notice it on an s4 because the screen is much smaller.
Send From My Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9005 Using Tapatalk
The S4 or S5 have the same screen resolution as the note 3 but are considerably smaller in screen size. As the picture is spread out there will be some slight degradation in hd quality but not so noticeable as to be called bad...

higher gamin performance and full graphics nova 3

Hi Here i show the easy way to enable nova 3 full effects without using the navbar in the Galaxy s4
You need rooted device,
Resolution changer from playstore
Set screen resolution to 540x960 and dpi to 220 apply and enjoy
You will notice that the screen ist AS sharp AS before.
Now you will notice that games run smoother
Why is the grafics sharper at lower resolution?
It cant be sharper then fullhd or?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Free mobile app
I don't think we should change resolution to have the games run at full speed as they should on such a high end device...
