I know that sometime our sensation gets hotter when used for highend gaming or while watching HD movies for long times. But my Sensation gets way too hot.. I mean scary hot.. it becomes almost dificult to hold in hands and feel as if its going to go BOOM!
i am on Hypernonsense 1.5 rom now, which btw is underclocked(1.08ghz) rom. Usualy ARHD roms(1.5ghz) makes my sensation hot even while surfing through internet. i found the hypersensation roms to be the best rom that keep my sensation cool.
the point is if dual core heats the hell out of phone whats the use of it? i mean i used to play same games on my single core android devices like galaxy tab and on my nexus s as well and they used to get hotter after hrs of usage. while my sensation starts gets hotter in like 5mins and by 15mins i have to quit gaming, because of the insanly increasing temprature...
is there any solution to this? i hope my sensation doesnt need micro-liquid-cooling kit! lolz.. Does usually all dual core devices behaves like this?

yes me too....one question...i have problems with mc3..it wont load on time compared to my desire hd on multiplayer and it hangs a lot...do you have the same problem...??
I would talk to HTC about it. They may be willing to help.
ROM?
Btw when you guys were playing games on your Sen, what rom were you guys on? I have never been on stock rom. The moment i got it, i started playing around different roms..
Since ARHD ROMs have OC GPU set up by default maybe it might be heating up the phone. Specially the bottom back side heats up as HELL!! Also the battry sucks up like 5%/min. I was playing Gun Bros Offline and my battry was about 30%, and after completing a few levels i.e. about 5/10mins of gaming the battry was 8%....
Man!! I feel my Galaxy TAB was like WAY better. I used to play about 4hrs with wifi and bluetooth on for whole day +emails and browsing for more then 3hrs.. and still i got about 20hrs battry time...
May be ICS can give me better perfomance, since its optimized for dual core phones....
Running cm7 my phone goes up to 115-120 degrees while game. Youtube or some web browsing heats it up to around 100+.

my sensation xe got 45C when playing any games....
not normal at all!
Mine was getting that hot and eventually started blinking the LED light orange and green, then I'd get an "overheating" message and the phone would reboot. I bought an Anker battery and haven't had the problem since.
Could be a battery defect or you could try underclocking the cpu.

That would probably solve it, I guess... I havent had the issue myself after I underclocked it... Then again, I'm running MIUI.
Good, thought that I ws the only one having heat issues. My sensation would heatup to 50 degrees celsuis when playing modern combat 3 or shadow gun, and when you go to system info, it says "overheat" on the battery status. I hope this is not a rom or kernel issue.

UC works!
I UC to 1.08 and it seems to get prettly less hotter now..!! also the gaming perfomance did decrease a bit.. a very less noticable...
There are two reasons why i bought the sensation xe against the sensation, first is the beats earphone and second is the higher clock. Now i need to underclock to below the clock specs of the basic sensation? Wwwwwwaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!! When i have the time i will to revert to stock and try if it will still heat up, luckily I still havent sold me desire hd.

I also have encounter overheating problem when using gingerbread rom. but after upgrading to ICS 4 with stock kernel, i have experience less overheating problem when playing game.
after upgrading to ics I had the same issue with oc kernel. Switched to stock kernel and no problems since.

T mobile is a good company to work with. I've traded 4 phones in 4 weeks, and by far, the Sensation is a great device.
The only thing I've noticed is that when using MX video hardware decoding for divx movies is choppy. Software decoding is on PAR.
The other little gotcha is that it has rebooted 11 times since I've started using it. Coming from the lock screen as well as, just in general sitting there ( 2 days). T mobile is sending me another one. (Never does it on Wifi calling is on, which I have noticed...)

Usually reboots either if it's over clocked in anyway or Sense using too much memory. But glad you are getting good service from the folks at tmo. I have to call into service to get such service/answers lol. Have fun!
Congrats! Sensation is turning out to be the best device for me so far.
Welcome to the club! Same story here.
That G2x was the biggest POS ever made.
HTC is soooo much better.
Your sensation should NEVER have to reboot unless you have over clocked it. I saw what LG was about to do like nokia did with the n900 and i quickly jump ship. Wasn't going to be burned again.

They are really helpful, my sister got the sensation too and was having problems with phone not charging, I took it back and they replaced it for a brand new.

My GF has a g2x and there is little wrong with it. GPS sucks from time to time and the camera is lacking...Thats it.
It has MUCH less issues than my sensation has, thats for sure. Its got great battery life (mine sucks), SMOOTH GLASS (mine feels tacky), and a buttery smooth browser. (Mine is jittery and rough).
Best of all, it was free for her (adding a line).
Matt
Cool that tmo is sending you another one. Just curious, are you running stock rom and kernel? Both mine and my wife's sensations used to reboot several times a day on the stock tmous 2.3.3 rom and kernel. The problem went away after I started messing with our phones a bit more.
My MX seems to play fine. Mkvs, avis, you name it, it plays.

Hey Bigmixx, I noticed you from tmonews. You always have good points to make. I too was having issues with my Vibrant, and T-Mobile hooked me up with a refurbished Sensation. I'm sure the problems you were having were with that device only because my Sensation is working well. Now I know what it's like to have a decent Android device!
Im too come from LG..O2X, similar to g2x..haha..really glad i did it..

Hey guys! I'm considering upgrading from my G2x b/c I'd really like to have official ICS and some better specs while I'm at it seeing as how I basically can trade by G2x for a Sensation b/c of their similar pricing. And now, my questions!
I know battery life is bad because of the great performance of the phone but just how bad is it? I'm somebody who would just browse the web in the morning for 20 min, send some texts and browse some forums throughout the day, and watch some videos and do a bit more browsing in the evening. Could I make it through a day without charging?
Any other general problems with the phone? Be HONEST. What's your biggest complaint about the phone besides battery?
I know you guys are gonna be getting a 'lite' version of Sense 4.0 but Google search didn't tell me much about what that means. Do you guys have a better idea about just how 'lite' it'll be?
And last of all, any idea if you guys will be getting CM9 or AOSP?
Thanks in advance!
Well battery is a usually good for me. I usually get about 12 -14 hours with the screen on for 2-3. Though I do have some days where it will be at 10% with just 7 hours of standby.
Complaints other than battery life? The dust that gets under the screen! It's my third sensation and it still has it. It's also tends to get very warm.
We do have CM9 and I was using it as a daily driver for about 2 weeks. But there are some issues like no LPA ( Low power audio ), some audio routing issues and a couple of minor Bluetooth bugs. I really miss it but no LPA a is a dealbreaker since I listen to to music a lot with my.phone so the battery drains more than it should with out it.

The heating ? Well some kernels do a better job at staying cool than others. But I think devs can only ameliorate the issue but not completely solve it.

Hot...yes, overheat... no. Try slowing down your processor when playing games and go into developer options via setting ( can't remember if it's in ginger bread) and check force gpu. Also reduce the amount of apps running when your going to play games for a while. There isn't a fix for that but this should help.

I put a ice cube under the phone while watching a movie, but i don't think you can do it on hardcore games like nova.

you can also turn off the capacitive button backlight. from my experience, the lit up buttons really heat the phone up a lot(only around the button area) while the rest of the phone is at normal temp including the battery.
turn off capacitive button backlight, just a thought

yeah. i played it on my XE too. its not perfect, but its good. just sometimes the accelerometer stops working or something else. the car's steer freezes and it goes at a direction for some seconds and then it comes back to normal. i don't know that it is my phone's problem or the game's.

I have played through the entire game on my Sensation. At first I was hesitant to purchase it because I didn't know if it would run at all. To my surprise it ran reasonably well even on the stock Sense image I was using at the time. However, after playing through it a little there was obvious lag, stutters and just hiccups that would come at inopportune times and cause you to lose the race. I then switched launchers to Nova while still retaining the stock Sense ROM. Things got better, much better actually, but still not good enough. Then I rooted and went to cm9.1 stable + Nova and things were almost perfect! I played through the rest of the game, actually pretty much the whole game, with cm9.1 + stable and there were only a few occasions where framerates degraded or hiccups/stutters messed up the gameplay. I thought what I was seeing was pretty much the best the sensation could do. That was until I recently upgraded to Albinoman's CM10.1 Kang. With that ROM NFS-MW is now running practically perfect. I think the key difference here is the amount of free RAM. With CM10.1 I have significantly more free RAM and can hold open 2 or 3 times more apps than with CM9.1. The Sensation is severely lacking in the RAM department and NFS-MW is a very memory-demanding game. The lighter the OS load, the more RAM is available to the game, the less swapping occurs and the ultimately the more fluid the game plays. Hope that helps.
perfectly running under cm10 by albinoman
if you are running sense, use faux kernel 10b9 or 10b8 overclock it to 1.7 then use intellidemand as governor.

Hi,
Try using faux with intellidemand governor.
What are you normally doing when your phone gets hot?
I'm normally on YouTube and the battery drains quick the CPU temp stays at 48 degrees crlicus

I always found I'd get random reboots and overheating with my phone, no matter the ROM. So I underclocked it, which actually seemed to make things worse. What actually solved the problem was securing the battery with something like a piece of card. Seems that a lot of Sensations had batteries which didn't quite contact the battery correctly, so when it needed a large spike in power (waking, opening apps, some transitions etc) it'd shut off to prevent a power surge. You might want to see if it makes a difference. You'd think with such a high quality design and materials they'd get the basics right....

Up to 70°C-75° is safe and normal when gaming; if you go above that (ex: near 100°C) then the SOC can be permanently damaged.
