After the first time I flashed my phone I could never make GPS work again, and the GPS signal was already weak before flashing.
Now I've flashed it again and when testing with GPS TEST app, it said the GPS was ON, so I left the phone running the application the whole night, when I woke up, and it still couldn't get a lock.
Have already followed the procedure of using engineering mode to download EPO and use the AGPS thing, the network doesn't seem to be helping at all, it finds the satellites, but the lock won't work. I've even opened my phone and enhanced the GPS antenna by soldering a copper wire followed by an aluminium (Isolated with electric tape), I know this method improves the signal because I've done that with the WiFi and SIM antennas, the signals were improved by 65%, but the GPS? No can do.
I suspect the phone isn't recognizing the GPS hardware, that I still have to do something else, like installing a "driver" or something. I not even get a weak signal, nothing, it's like my phone's GPS hardware never existed. Get it? I got a feeling that the phone isn't recognizing the GPS hardware.
Another question, does the BT (Bluetooth) code in SN Write software has something to do with it? Because after flashing the phone, it is necessary to configure the IMEI and BT.

What did you flash your phone with exactly ? Most ROMs released recently have GPS and VPN bugs.

Original Stock Rom found at Doogee blog. Also tried the upgraded version, found in the same site. Only the upgraded version works well, the older one has a bug in the video.
I tried all the steps cited before, so would that be a problem with the ROMS?
Then what do you think about custom roms? I found some here, I'm willing to try them:

Custom ROMs are better just read known issues or bug list before flashing custom ROMs though.all the best.
Oops, the site mtkroms have only general ROMs if you flash you'll get bootloop unless you port the downloaded ROM for your phone

Not true at all. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2526106 I have this phone, have ported and used every single mtk6572 rom available, none of them enable GPS at all, this chipset is useless for that.
Any roms you need or want, jb4.2, then let me know. I'll either have it already or will quicly port it for you, but that is such an easy thing to do anyway: http://computerplusandroid.blogspot.com/2015/09/mtk-porting-guide-for-jellybean-same-soc.html
Find an mtk6572 rom you like, port it as described above, then flash it. NONE of them have GPS working well, I've tried so, so many. Just find one you like the look of. Mediamod v5 is a good one, and lollifox also.
http://the-daffi.blogspot.co.uk/ good list of roms, its in Indonesian but just download the links based on screenshots simple way is download it, unzip it, swap the boot.img from your working rom into the rom folder you just unzipped, copying over it. Then highlight SYSTEM, METAINF and BOOT.IMG with the mouse, and zip it back up as a .zip. Then flash that. If that boots and you like the look of it, then properly port it, all the .lib files, all etc files and things to make it work well.

What I meant was downloading a ROM developed for chipset say 6582 and then flashing right away would result in install failure or a bootloop etc.. So I just told him to search for one that's already ported for his phone.
I know downloading ROM from mtkroms and replacing some files ,decompiling boot.IMG etc are easy but most I guys talked this to didn't wanna go through all that hassle.
And about GPS some ROMs I tried GPS works others didn't so I thought flashing another would work I admit I'm not that knowledgeable ,was trying to help sorry.
you can port 6582/9280 to 6572 as well, its just harder. I have/had this phone and then bought one for my son, his was brand new, untouched and GPS didnt work even then

I use lenovo a5000 GPS works fine on kk/lp based ROMs but not on marsh based ROMs cuz it was a bug that came at the time of compiling forms source .
But you guy's problem sound more like a hardware
Defect in the phone than the ROMs. Best contact your phones customer care if they're still alive . unbelievable how a company can mess up on a vital component of phone like GPS.
I think its country dependant, it works fine in China according to forums, I'm UK and it doesnt and has never worked, and can only get JB roms as there is no kernal available for even KitKat
Thx fellas.
@robneymcplum Please, if you can port the ROM for me, I'll be very thank you. I've read the ROM porting tutorial, but didn't understand the last parts, stuff like de-compiling and compiling the boot.img.
@[email protected] They're more alive than ever, and still manufacturing those things....

By the way, I made it work once, I was at a high place and I could get my location using Sygic.
This phone has 7 antennas, where 4 antennas are the GND (Ground) part of each receptor.
You have to build a custom antenna for each one of them, soldering a small piece of iron or aluminum solves that problem. By using this method I was able to improve the wifi and SIM signals a lot. The only problem is that you have to very careful not to unsold the antennas of the board.
So following that logic, I conclude that the GPS not getting a lock is definitely a Hardware issue, I also forgot to mention that I went to an open space to get the signal. I can't get a lock on a single satellite, it is very frustrating, definitely not buying from those guys ever again.
Beside the GPS not working, this phone's touch screen is average, this phone's camera is horrible, this phone's internal memory for both applications and storage is terrible, this phone speaker is low, the headsets are annoying (They hurt your ear after using them sometime), the hardware isn't that great (Dual core with 512 RAM), so after seeing all the trouble I've got into, I should have bought a galaxy s4 by the time I bought that one, I had even sold my galaxy s3, thought I was saving, when I reflect about all the feature I've "lost" when I decided to save money, and it isn't a big difference between this phone's price and a galaxy s4.

I've only seen now that you've mentioned the country part.
I've been searching all day long and I found out that there is a way to not only download the country based gps.config file, but also use GLONASS (A russian supported GPS version like thing).
Also saw people saying they've last their GPS after Jelly Bean Upgrade.
Just flashed a newer rom that I've found here, still no luck. Now Loading....
PS: If it works fine in China, then there is a hope....

Lenovo ***ed up with our update for lollipop overheating ,battery drain etc so the guys at 4pda filed a petition so lenovo would release the source code and they did.
And the lads also have released custom kernel 3.4.67 and 3.10.54. I could only find recovery development in 4pda for your phone though.

This is the rom I'm using, seems to be the best for looks vs performance for all the ones Ive found, BACK UP your rom first in CWM just to be sure. Porting is easy, you dont need to recompile boot.img, just copy/paste your boot.img from the rom you are using now into the rom you have downloaded, is really easy. This rom here, 'should' work fine, but if it wont boot then its a boot image issue, simply unzip this rom, copy over your current boot.img and then rezip it back up. Dead easy I then change build.prop screen density to 190 if it isnt already, developer settings and change all the animations/windows to the lowest settings, I use nova launcher as I prefer it.
I then use xposed with holothemer to theme the settings to android L
gravitybox for the usual tweaks
bootmanager to stop various things from starting
and what ever else you need, with greenify and google play services removed, I have a resting RAM of 130/150 free with 2 day battery life.

Thx, I'll make sure to try it. Sorry for not having answered before, this site didn't show me there were new replies here. I decided to come to inform you guys that I found out why the GPS issue is happening. It's a NVRAM bug, I'm 99% sure. I've seen people saying they lost GPS feature after they flashed their phones and it was because of VRAM.
You can check it out here: http://www.chinaphonearena.com/forum/Thread-iNew-v3-NVRAM-download-backup-restore-tar-bin-files
I already had suspected before if it was the VRAM because the first thing you see on the phone after flashing is a ERROR VRAM in wifi networks. I wondered if that was the case, but until yesterday I couldn't find anything related to that, a few hours ago I found. Too bad I screwed with my AGPS, GPS and EPO files replacing files from stock rom. I guess I'll have to flash it again. Right now I'm looking for a NVRAM file. Man, you have no clue how I prayed to fix this thing., I was about to buy phone, not a Chinese one though (Not going to make that mistake again in my life... ever). lol

Apart from the GPS rom is faultless. Do this ONLY if it wont boot, it should work straight away though.
Dont need to add/remove anything from the boot.img, copy it as a whole file.

there were a lot of posts (including one of mine) where people complained that when data network mode was activated and they tried to answer / make a call, they couldn't. and if they did try to, it wouldn't answer and the network bars would become grey (that is, no bars) and it would take a couple of minutes for network to come back (or until you restart, whichever comes first).
anyway, i had some issues with my phone and i gave to the service center. i told them of it and they flashed the stock ROM + kernel. i had some other issues as well, so they said they'll keep the phone for two days.
so i'm getting my phone back tomorrow. now i want to know if flashing the stock firmware did in fact solve anyone's issues. if it did, i'll continue with the stock rom / kernel (please tell me which was causing you the problems). if not, i'll flash a custom ROM / kernel again. please let me know.
also, does anyone know why this happens? is some app causing these problems? because after flashing a new custom ROM (without any user apps installed) i can call / receive properly without deactivating the data network mode.
but, no user apps (and no google account sync either) = no internet traffic.
i'd request the expert devs (ROM makers, kernel developers, testers etc) to please leave their opinion as i'm not the only one who faces this issue. a few of us do and this is one of the few unsolved issues on this forum.
thank you.

ur last custom rom??? wer u using 3g turbocharger??
frankly i don't know what 3g turbocharger is :/
i was using kyrillos' ROM 8.0 (updated to 8.1) and i did run the supercharger script, but i don't think that's what you're talking about. i wasn't using the 3g network.
i've been facing this issue for a LONG time now. i've changed a few ROMs but same effect in all of them. maybe it's something to do with the european firmware (i live in mumbai, india) or something, i'm not sure. are you on vodafone? where in india do you stay?
Well even i am facing this strange network problem but only indoors!!
Outdoors the range is full!!
Since we all flash custom roms that are based on european base, i thought that the problem is related to the modem.bin AKA baseband!!
So i was thinking of just flashing the modem.bin again from any asian firmware.
But before doing that i flashed the old ddjg6 (eclair) rom just to see if baseband flashing is worth it.
Well the network problem was still there!! so the conclusion was that baseband/modem.bin flashing wont affect anything!!
stay happy!!
I cant remember if kyr8 had 3g turbocharger tweaks on build.prop.. But yes with 3g turbocharger on , I hav sum issues with data connection...
-tapatalked by RnB
Btw did u get phone.apk force close while happenin this??
-tapatalked by RnB
phone.apk force closed often. but never because of the weird data connection. i think it just generally force closed.
and i have been facing this problem since kyrillos' 6.0 or 7.0. one of the two. can't remember. also, please look for my "a request for a custom lock screen?" thread in galaxy 3 general and let me know if you can help. thanks!
also, people who are facing such issues please leave your name and "symptoms" here.
yes i also face the same problem of network,no solutions found yet.but i am not sure whether this prob happens to all the network or just VODAFONE,as i am using VODAFONE only.
okay please visit this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1229423&highlight=data+network+mode&page=2
also, here's a bit of my network story if it helps anyone understand this issue :
i bought the phone when it was running Eclair. it worked fine for a few days then i started to face the issue. when i tried sliding the green answering thing to the right, it just wouldn't answer. it would go back in it's place. when people called me, it said it was unavailable. my network used to restart, and calls would randomly get cut and i couldn't call back immediately. i had to wait for 10-15 seconds before i could make / receive any call again. within this time, the calls would dial, but not connect.
so i upgraded to froyo (JP2) from the samsung gallery. my phone worked PERFECTLY for two months or so. no call drops, no nothing. then all of the above started happening again.
i tried flashing different ROMs, kernels etc but nothing helps.
and neo, i face this problem everywhere. indoors and outdoors.
okay so i'm getting my phone back tomorrow. does anyone have any tips for me? something that i should or should not do? like flash a european ROM or just the kernel or not to install a specific app or something?
i do have the same situation. it worked very good by me, till marcellusbe released his cm7 alpha4 i think. i installed it, and since then i have got that network problem, during calls f. example i lose the communication. i dont hear amything, it freezes, and turns back to menu after a few seconds. then i notice that its in the flight mode automatically. and this just happens me when i have got the data connections on. if i deactivate it i dont face any problems like that. i also noticed since i once installed cm7 alpha4 , i have got a strange battery drain. i charg the phone till its fully cjarged, after 3 hours i do not have any battery any more.. help me in that ... PLEASE
i really become frustated the whole time when this happens to me, pls find a solution!! ....

Well if flashing customs roms and kernels is not helping, you need to try only flashing the stock modem.bin!! I really dont know how to do that safely but people do it!! If you can update the OP like "Please help in flashing just modem.bin" then maybe someone makes and give you an update.zip or a tar containing just modem.bin.
If that too fails to solve your problem, then you must demand a replacement of the handset from samsung! Thats all i can say man!!
Well, the same is happening with me. Even i have vodafone and i live in pune, india. I didnt use eclair for alot of of time so I don't know whether it is a froyo-eclair prob.
The problem that happens with me is that, when i go to my classes (which are in a damn closed area) i dont get any signal. Even though the network bars are zero i still get messeages and phone calls. but when i call someone or message it does not reach. It only happens in some places like my classes and school, but not at my house.
I found a way (not quite conventional but works). I have found that when i flash a rom; irrespective of whether stock or custom; the signal catching is quite stong. But after a month or two it is becomes laggy again. So i flash another rom and again it's good. I dont know whether it is a correct method but works for me.

okay so i've been using the stock firmware for two-three days now. and i've been facing absolutely no network problem as such.
when i press *#1234# here are my results :
PDA : i5801DDJP2
phone : i5801DDJP2
CSC : i5801DDJP2
build info : 2011, 04
now can someone interpret this for me? i mean tell me what exactly this means. which of those is my ROM build, my kernel build, or baseband or whatever.
tell me if there are any custom ROMs / kernels built on these builds (or updated ones, but still indian updates) so that i can test if those work for me?
thanks.

There is no custom rom build on this build as this build is lot buggy than the other european firmwares.
And that phone is the baseband responsible for the network and all!!
Some people face network problems some dont!!
Here is the phone of i5801ddjp3 firmware
http://www.mediafire.com/?34yrw4b7fe63tri
If you unzip this file, you get the modem.bin
Now there has to be a way to flash this modem.bin over custom firmwares!!
here is the sgs version of it!! This thread contains of all modem.bin of stock firmware to be flashed over custom rom to get better baseband for samsung galaxy s!
Even I used to face similar problem but only on custom rom's not on stock ones.. but using the stock rom's is too boring so now I have flashed with purungrit's rom v.1.0, kernel G3 mod 2.0, and its working fine, no network issues. The theme is good with extended power menu and 5 lockscreen.. u can try this. we can flash custom rom's based on Indian firmwares and face no network problems, problem is only with European or other countries firmwares..

Yup!! right now i am fighting my exams!!
If somebody can do it!! ;-)
Greetings XDA Users;
I'm fair experienced with Android 2.3 (Actually quite experienced with Acer e310 / Fastboot & ADB).
My girlfriend gave me a Samsung i9003 SL (XWKPG) phone.
I was choosing the rom wich could suit me better and i messed up something. I have installed the KitKat Rom from ehndroix; and tried to roll back to ICS ROM (Wich i loved and could manipulate for my needs).
The device softbricked. (Couldnt get into the system). I've re-flashed "XWKPG-Cfroot-08112011" with Odin to get inside the CWM.
Now im stuck in the CWM, and cannot install anything.
As far as i've searched there is no fastboot mode for Samsung; and i'm not sure if the ehndroix changed my partitions.
So i cannot manually flash Roms (Boot / data / userdata / system / flex etc...) on my device.
With this said and before i do something that could hardbrick my device i'm kindly requesting your help to recover my device.
I also tried to get the stock rom but unfortunly ALL links in the entire web seem to be broken.
Note: I'm not experienced with Odin (in wich i've read several posts saying that if i'm using it while my partition system was changed can actually mess my device).
So i stopped before doing harmfull moves to this amazing device.
Note 2 (ICS ROM Bug!?): Ehndoix ICS Rom wasnt letting me to get network. Any idea why?
Any help would be 100% appreciated and thankfull.
Best Regards
Help Request- More Info
- I dont have any *.pit files.
- I have Stock ROM CWM Backup
- I have ICS ROM CWM Backup
But none can be flashed using CWM.
Follow this tutorial for recover your device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2329200
Only one thing ics, jb and kk have different partition layout than gb, if you want to downgrade android version you have to flash stock firmware first. Hope you understand this is very important.

Greetings Acuicultor;
Thanx for the quick repply and for the partitioning info. I hope that by flashing the CFRoot i didnt messed up anything.
Ehndroix should have included the info where the partitions are changed (or maybe i havent see it).
Once again im thankful and Ill try it out when i reach home and let you know how it went.

Greetings;
That tutorial lead me to more dead links or (if i unlock my hosts) to an ad page without a way to get the pack.
Either ways i could restore my device with another way.
I flashed a *.md5 file from another website with Odin; (ill try to post the name of the site; filename and link here later); booted the drvice under cwm;
Erased cache and data; recovered my previous backup of ICS rom and restarted.
That helped me for now. Later ill just have to check i my device has network signal or other errors due to this way of flashing.
Im gratefull for your help. Also going to press "thank" if it is possible with this new account.
Best personal regards;

In a matter of fact i was actually looking for it right know (LoL)
Thanks
Greetings.
Yesterday i went up so tired in testing roms that i completely forgot to say how it went.
Resuming:
Tested several Roms; 100% were pure garbage. I wanted an ICS rom.. I realized that battery goes waaaay to fast on almost every rom.
Sadly couldnt find a Stock GB ROM with ICS theme. Well... i could install or flash a theme. I actually tried flashing 3 themes
One lead my device mad rebooting every 10sec. Lulz!
So i went back to stock; installed wich is for me the best launcher ("Nemus"); added my favourite wallpaper; removed all the bloatware; installed favourite apk's and got quite happy with it.
Ofcourse not what i wanted.. But i have consider that Stock is perfect. Customs for this device (Samsung) are not unfortunly.
Next thing to get will be a Kernel with smartass governor.
Overall:
Samsung is far more difficult to manipulate than my Acer Liquid Mini e310. But i can say i understand a little bit how it works now; thanks to your help.
I freaking miss fastboot mode...
But life goes on.
Once again many thanks; you got me learning new methods really fast.

So... Deodexing using this method. Correct?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53119142
I just cant find anywhere the file (CF-Root that enables deodexig) for my device "XWKPG".
But i could get the 2nd file (*.zip file)
"DeleteUnwantApp_Cwm-New.zip"
I'm wondering if this file only is enough.
I've been removing unwanted apk's with es file explorer.
And i noticed that the device gets problems like:
- Restarting while watching youtube videos.
- Experiencing some lags. (although it happens with stock firmware from sammobile without removing the apk's).
Wich i find weird. My Acer e310 doesnt Lag a bit. Either undeclocked or overclocked.
One of the resons i find My Acer Waaayyy faster than Samsung i9003. (Probably due to having 512mb Ram)

You are in the right direction, that trhead is the one who has the files for odex stock firm but it seems some links are dead. Maybe you get lucky and someone give a mirror.
Its the odex.zip file what you need not deleteunwantapp....zip, this is for remove easily unnecesary sistem apps.
From other side, theres good lag free roms for the sl, maybe you dont find the best ones or your flashing methods are not the optimus for each rom or maybe your configuration and installed apps are killing you. Who knows? Keep in mind you have an sl. Even flagships devices like s3,4,5, motox,lg2... Sometimes have some lag under certain conditions.

Under CPU manager App:
Governor: deadline|cio or bfq
Scheduler: smartass v2
Unfortunly there is mo "lag free" option for Bam Kernel.
Well in fact every device has its own lags or freezes.
The lags and freezes on this device is seriously impressive and constant.
Although i managed to get more performance and less lags by:
- Always performing clean installs;
- Using DDLF2 Rom with Bam Kernel
But there is a catch to perform a Clean install. Seems like everything you've done before gets allocated somewhere on the device. Like some previous settings and files or apk's.
So everytime you flash a rom some stuff from the previous flash will be there causing some sort of problems.
So to prevent errors like: crashes, auto brightness not working, having apk's you havent installed, etc you/i Always have to:
- Perform Cleaning*
- Perform factory Reset
- Flash sammobile firmware
- Flash CF-Root
- Perform Cleaning*
- Flash DDLF2
- Flash Bam Kernel
- Flash the Kernel "Fix" (Fixes Wifi)
- Perform Factory Reset
* Erase Cache; Dalvik Cache; Format Boot, Data and System
And the device performs everything more eficiently with just a few lags.
Some more tweaks:
- Im using Android Assistant app (to automatically clean my device cache)
Unfortunly i couldt find a way to use ext4 on this device yet. At least tried everything i did on my Acer e310 (Wich is running perfectly and Overclocked with impressive battery life).
Im pretty sure that by having ext4 will improve even more the performance of the device and certainly kill all the lags. Like i did in my e310.
Note: My e310 wich is 2 times faster than any iphone3 and probably the fastest (stable) e310 in the world. (So many months working to achieve that - im a prowd owner). Sadly just doesnt support flash. ^^
Either ways the way to go for our Samsung would be using the internal SDCard partition as ext4.
But so far all i could get were crashes, stops and reboots.
I also dont have "apk"s suffocating my device. Even after a clean flash it will lag a lot. Wich i dont think it is normal for any device.
But i will keep up untill i get the perfection as usual.
By comparing my devices i think the issue is the difference of Ram.
My e310 has 512mb.
My i9003 has only 256mb.
This said the sollution is logical.
The device needs Ram. In this case "virtual ram".
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA Free mobile app
Try this kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351056
It have the posibility to convert to ext4, and sl have 512m of ram too.

Greetings acuicultor;
Thanks for the information.
I will check the Kernel after work.
And you are right i completely forgot that i must have a compatible Kernel. I didnt even checked if Bam Kernel supports it.
About device Ram:
Seriously? I would swear ive seen 256mb). Thats totaly good news and very Interesting.
Since the combination between 512mb ram and ext4 is often good and it will be even better than i was expecting.
Sent from my E310 using XDA Free mobile app
Nice Kernel. I just noticed i wrote the wrong Kernel name i am using.
Im not using the Bam kernel; but Bagaria's. (The same you recommended)
I've installed the ext4 apk and converted the partitions.
I can see a fairly good difference.
So far no freezes but there's still some lag. Specially waiting for the device to respond in several situations. But it is faster.
I shall re flash everything and see the difference.
By the way; can you advise any custom Rom without bugs?
I use almost everything in a device so bugs cannot exist.
Just a note for the people who may be following.
If you intend to use the same rom with the same kernel.
My rom ( DDLF2 ) requires a fix file found on the last pages of bagaria kernel thread.
It fixes the stuck wifi (wich happens after flashing the Kernel file).
Meanwhile i found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145133
In wich it seems a good idea but can wear off nand.
This is the idea of what i intended to do. But im giving up because i want the device to work for years.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA Free mobile app
Bugless rom for sl dont exist though, but theres some roms working perfectly like "Fly on gb" by lolation and "qwerty rom" by IoSconosciuto booth roms runned pretty good in my old SL.
I really flashed EVERY script available in xda on that device and only gain freezes and random reboots, i think is better to keep the sl's roms lighter, just little tweaks in build prop. Thats what worked best for my device.
Sent from Mallorca to your face
I agree. I've tried 5 / 6 roms so far and also noticed that they come with apps that are useless. I havent checked the scripts yet.
But i still agree with you.
Probably there are too many and / or duplicated scripts.
If i get more time ill try to make a custom rom myself and try to make it lighter.
Although it will require some more knowledge specially with the performance scripts.
I cant complaint much now. After i configured the ext4 my device is now running way better!
I will try one more rom (Nameless Rom) and see how it works.
Please press thanks if it helped you.

I think this will be my last question. Thanks to everyone for your support and patience.
My knowledge for this speciffic device and servicing has been evolving a lot since i started this thread. (Also by soft bricking the device - lol).
So here's the question:
Ive seen several times references like "xwkpg", "ddlf2", "xwkpq", etc.
What do these references stand for?
Rom type for specific i9003 versions?
Or rom variants that can be installed in any i9003?
i.e: what would happen if i flash a xwkpq rom on a xwkpg device?

Hi all,
Did anyone able to use gps with custom rom ( I would say CM base). I research and try everything that's I could find here but not success.
Every time I do clean wipe everything including a internal storage. So that will nothing left behind.
I know that stock is work fine with gps. some said that install and replace stock but I have no idea that what file will left in our device when we delete all.
Always had the same problem when running Paranoid Android (not tried other ROMs). Had to return to stock, where GPS runs fine. Would also love to kknow how people have got it functioning.
I am trying too. I modified gps.conf files, tried some workarounds mentioned in cm11 thread like restoring GPS Status backup from stock with titanium so far with no success. Some people say that it works but it doesn't on mine whatever I do.
I run on CM and I don't have any problem. Everything works fine with gps and I didn't use any fix or something similar.
I'm on CM 11-20140627 and I have 1032 phone.
Interesting, why does it work on some while it doesn't on others? Maybe some variants are having problems...
I have xt1033 asia version.

I am having he same problem on XT1032 running Carbon ROM. GPS worked fine on stock, no signal with Carbon.
I found many answers saying to flash stock and then reflash custom ROM. I will try it, but I wonder, how does this help? Isn't the phone restoring the whole system? Do I have to keep the gps.conf from stock?
I've read in some CM thread on here you need to flash stock ROM then enable GPS and get a lock. Once you've done that then flash your custom rom. Sounds STUPID and dosent make sense I know, but a lot of people say this is how they got it to work.
EDIT: I can confirm. I've just flashed stock 4.4.4 and played around with google maps. Flashed CM11 nightly and my GPS is now working ok

Sorry people, I was so happy to have my phone back working, I forgot to write it back here.
Yes it worked indeed, all I did was flashing back the stock, going outside to have a gps lock with gmaps, then re-flashing back the Carbon. I also kept a copy of the gps.conf, but I never needed it, the GPS got a fix quickly. Working fine so far, it only takes some tens of seconds to fix, from time to time.
I can't remember if I also did all the wiping, I think I didn't, but I made so many trials in a couple days, I am not sure.
Thanks a lot guys!

Yes, this worked for me too on PA.
I couldn't even see a single sat (it wasn't just a lock problem). No matter with gps patch, gpx fix app, or gps.conf I used.
What I did?: Back to stock, lock GPS, flash again the custom ROM (but don't wipe /system!).
Good luck on that guys, it should work for you too.

GPS works fine on this unofficial CM11 rom for me. Stable daily driver rom for me, YMMV.
General advice is to:
- make sure you get a GPS lock on stock rom first
- flash CM11 (or other custom rom)
There may not be a file left on the device. it may just be that stock contains the code to initialize the GPS functionality on the SoC or chipset firmware. Whatever, it works...
Hi all, I aren't a new user but have attached my Google account on this log in so....meh.
I understand that from update 4.4.3 and upwards many N5 users experience loss of their mobile network where switching to aeroplane mode then back again is the only way to rectify this? I was fine until I recently swapped to Virgin (UK) which uses the EE network, ever since this my calls go straight to voicemail unless I manually select the provider myself.
I was having a whale of a time with CM11 and only found out this issue after tearing my hair out for a couple of weeks but it is something I cannot have because I need my phone to be available *always* due to issues with my mum. So what I have now done is backdated my system to 4.4.2 which seems to have worked *but* I now get the system update notifications which I have dealt with but I now seem to have messed up the Play Store
Is there any one solution for this problem where I can have everything actually working as it should? 4.4.2 stock seems to run a lot better and seems a lot quicker in all honesty, quicker than even CM11 than is the gods honest truth.
Please help I dearly love this phone and need it to work for personal reasons and I aren't in a position to buy another right now (quit joib to look after mum etc) have I tugged at your heart strings enough yet?
Flash 4.4.4 but flash the 4.4.2 radio then?
On my carrier in Australia, I've never had a single drop issue, on all versions of the radio.
I live in Ohio and my connection is awesome with ATT. The only problem I have with network is my house and church. Lol Everywhere else like work is awesome. I think the network you choose is the major player in this. The phone itself is great on network.

To 100 % prove it to myself I did the stock system updates, first to 4.4.3 then to 4.4.4 straight after I rang myself from a landline and it went immediately to voicemail. I then tried to install Cyanfox and that fails on the set up wizard as did liquid
linaro, both using the correct gapps and several versions.
So my next try is an older CM M3 iirc because I think doing the radio thing is a bit beyond my skills Lethargy

theres an easier solution than that...! grab a baseband/radio here http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...t/modem-nexus-5-flashable-modems-efs-t2514095 download the zip file to your phone then flash it in your custom recovery. it takes seconds and can flash as many radios as you like until you find the perfect one for you

simms22 you may just be the sexiest person alive, just updating cm then I shall give this a try.
Will report back, appreciated massively so far guys.
Edit - well, it seems to of worked, I am getting some weird google log in errors but I aren't sure if that is related. Letting it download the apps etc then will mess some more tomorrow but the phone definitely rang and didn't go to voicemail. simms 22 you are a gem, thank you very much.
Hello.
My problem is that sometimes, when I receive a notification, ambient display turns screen on to show it (as it should do normally), but then, when it is supposed to turn screen off again, it only goes black, but the backlight is still on. It's hard to notice, but I don't want the backlight on, using battery, when I think it's off.
The only way to turn it off is by activating ambient display again (moving the phone, waving in front of proximity sensor, pressing power button), and then it would show my normal lock screen and then turn off, until "something" makes it leave the backlight on again.
Anyone have/had/knows this issue? I've used Mokee ROM, now I'm on RR and it happened on both, I don't remember if it happened in CM. Could it be something app related?
Thanks.
Yeah same happened with cm 12.1 latest nightly too.....just checked it now...

Hi there !
When you have installed the custom rom, you have probably flashed directly from another custom rom , is this correct?
If so, it may be your phones drivers slightly messed up at the moment seeing as it has different parts from other roms, depending on how you flashed it.
My solution would be to flash the stock firmware , which can easily be found in the forums, and then flash twrp, then your rom of choice. If that doesn't work, its likely a bug in that specific build of the rom you are installing , seeing as another person who has replied has had the same problem .

That's strange! I guess it may be something like the drivers you said, because just one user said that have the same problem, but I'll have to wait until I have some free time to flash stock and root and flash CM and restore all apps and that again... I hate that part of installing another ROM.

Ok, I have spent some time thinking about this one for you, as I really want you to get this one fixed!
Although I need abit more information.
1) Does the issue occur on stock rom?
2)Are you sure it is not a problem with the build you are running?
3)What exact steps did you use to flash the rom?
To show that you appreciate my help so far, please click thanks

1)I can't tell if it occurs on stock, because on stock I use moto display (which doesn't have this issue).
2) I'm almost sure, because I've used 2 ROMs and both do the same. Maybe I'll have to try with CM nightlies?
3)I followed the guide in "general" section to flash stock using fastboot and android sdk. After that, I booted on stock, then rebooted to bootloader, flashed TWRP, entered to recovery, wiped data and then flashed RR ROM with it's gapps and then flashed moto camera and gallery. After that, wipe dalvik and cache and rebooted to system.
Right , ok. I recommend trying one of the cm12 nightly builds, seeing as they worked on my phone fine in terms of ambient display

Well, the other user that commented on this post was also using latest CM nightly, so I'm not very positive about it, but I may try it when I have time.
Well , looking at all of the information In this post , I think it is safe to say ambient display is not fully working on many roms :/
I installed a new build of cm12 earlier, and I found that sometimes the backlight will stay on , but other times it is fine.
If you want to work on this together, email me at [email protected] , and then we can look into it abit further ?
I will take a thorough look into the forums to see if others are recieving any problems as well .

Thanks! I have a lot of work right now, so I can't work with this now, but I'll email you when I have more free time!
