[Q] Anyone succeed with GPS with custom rom - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Did anyone able to use gps with custom rom ( I would say CM base). I research and try everything that's I could find here but not success.
Every time I do clean wipe everything including a internal storage. So that will nothing left behind.
I know that stock is work fine with gps. some said that install and replace stock but I have no idea that what file will left in our device when we delete all.

Always had the same problem when running Paranoid Android (not tried other ROMs). Had to return to stock, where GPS runs fine. Would also love to kknow how people have got it functioning.

I am trying too. I modified gps.conf files, tried some workarounds mentioned in cm11 thread like restoring GPS Status backup from stock with titanium so far with no success. Some people say that it works but it doesn't on mine whatever I do.

I run on CM and I don't have any problem. Everything works fine with gps and I didn't use any fix or something similar.
I'm on CM 11-20140627 and I have 1032 phone.

Interesting, why does it work on some while it doesn't on others? Maybe some variants are having problems...
I have xt1033 asia version.

Which recovery did you use?

CWM

As I wonder is about library missing or some partition need from stock ?

I've also been using the micro gapps package, would this matter?

I had problems with Paranoid Android and GPS too... If anyone know something about that, please comment!

Hey i found a solution, you have do this flash following in this order.
- flash stock 4.4.4 (depend on your current)
- flash cm
- flash gapp
I try this twice and work like a charm.

I am having he same problem on XT1032 running Carbon ROM. GPS worked fine on stock, no signal with Carbon.
I found many answers saying to flash stock and then reflash custom ROM. I will try it, but I wonder, how does this help? Isn't the phone restoring the whole system? Do I have to keep the gps.conf from stock?

I've read in some CM thread on here you need to flash stock ROM then enable GPS and get a lock. Once you've done that then flash your custom rom. Sounds STUPID and dosent make sense I know, but a lot of people say this is how they got it to work.
EDIT: I can confirm. I've just flashed stock 4.4.4 and played around with google maps. Flashed CM11 nightly and my GPS is now working ok

Did you wipe anything, like Dalvik, Cache and Data, or you just flashed it over?

Sorry people, I was so happy to have my phone back working, I forgot to write it back here.
Yes it worked indeed, all I did was flashing back the stock, going outside to have a gps lock with gmaps, then re-flashing back the Carbon. I also kept a copy of the gps.conf, but I never needed it, the GPS got a fix quickly. Working fine so far, it only takes some tens of seconds to fix, from time to time.
I can't remember if I also did all the wiping, I think I didn't, but I made so many trials in a couple days, I am not sure.
Thanks a lot guys!

Yes, this worked for me too on PA.
I couldn't even see a single sat (it wasn't just a lock problem). No matter with gps patch, gpx fix app, or gps.conf I used.
What I did?: Back to stock, lock GPS, flash again the custom ROM (but don't wipe /system!).
Good luck on that guys, it should work for you too.

GPS works fine on this unofficial CM11 rom for me. Stable daily driver rom for me, YMMV.
General advice is to:
- make sure you get a GPS lock on stock rom first
- flash CM11 (or other custom rom)
There may not be a file left on the device. it may just be that stock contains the code to initialize the GPS functionality on the SoC or chipset firmware. Whatever, it works...

Can't return to ICS based Roms

Hi,
I need some help. I am an XDA lurker and have learned a ton. I am mostly aware of the usual fixes for these things, but I can not return to any other ROM than a CM10. CM10 data and camera are not working great, even though I LOVE this ROM and LOVE these developers, I can't use it yet.
Firtst, my backups are gone, I know, I know. But they are gone. I tried flashing NoSympothy and invisibleK,s stock ROMs but I get frozen at the Galaxy SIII screen everytime.I have tried all the usual system wiping drills, cache, data, etc... Formatted everything. I have downloaded from multiple sources. It seems like it doesn't like ICS now?
I am rooted and UNLOCKED! Woohoo, thanks Adam!!!!!
Any suggestions?
Recoverys to CM10 work. New flashes to CM10 work. But no stock image or stock rom?

You have to flash the stock kernel as well as the ROM. Try flashing the Synergy latest nightly build it includes a custom kernel as long as your bootloader is unlocked.
Thanks,
I had a feeling it was something with the kernel. I wasn't sure what was included though. I think I tried to get synergy from here on my phone and it just kept opening new windows instead of downloading. I will grab the just the kernel from somewhere and let you know. I'll update in an hour or so. Thanks for the next few steps to try. Much appreciated!
That was it THANKS!!!

Stock ROMs include the stock kernel. They will work as a one flash wonder. Your issue more sounds recovery based. Which recovery from which app were you using? It more sounds lime maybe you're still on a kexec recovery which is why you couldn't flash stock but synergy latest worked (or something of the sort, maybe other way around)

XT925 - Wifi not working after Custom Rom install (but bluetooth works?)

So I'm new to rooting and flashing custom roms on android devices. This also shows that I'm new because I forgot to make a backup of my stock system before moving forward, hence this problem.
So I currently have CM 10.2 flashed on my phone and so far I can't get the wifi to work. My bluetooth works perfectly fine (I've read that if one fails usually the other should too), so I don't know what to do.
At this point I'm sure i'm stuck because I've flashed a few different roms already to see if i can fix it (10.0, 10.1, 10.2, and hacker's aosp 4.4) but the wifi isn't working in either so I stuck to the rom that had the fewest bugs.
What's weird was that it was working when I had 4.4 flashed, but when i found it too buggy and flashed CM 10.2, now it doesn't work.
Anyone else have this problem? I guess I can live with it for a while until maybe I purchase a new phone.
Thanks

The first time, no. I thought I may have installed 4.4 incorrectly so after installing 10.2 i tried flashing 4.4 again, but I did wipe the caches, system, data and dalvik caches the second time going back after reading in this forum how to flash over a custom rom. But then seeing that the bugs were still there, i wiped again and went back to 10.2 and I've been there for a day now.

[Q] GPS on Infusion Beta3

Hi
Sorry to post here rather than in ROM thread as I don't have enough posts.
I've just updated to Tillaz's Infusion Beta 3 ROM. It all looks great and I haven't found any problems except...
It seems as if GPS is disabled. Maps will find me using wifi etc but isn't getting a GPS lock at all. GPS status doesn't "see" any sattellites at all (i.e. they're not even there with insufficient signal). I have GPS enabled in the location settings and it all worked before the update. Clean wipe all done.
I'm guessing that it's an internal setting somewhere but perhaps someone can help? Is anyone else experiencing this?
Many thanks
Sam

I have the same problem running CyanogenMod 11 build 20140120. I cannot get the GPS to work with this custom ROM and I cannot report the bug in the ROM thread because I don't have enough posts.
Does anyone have a method of re-activating the GPS after installing a custom ROM?
Thanks
Thanks - glad to know I'm not alone!
It's strange as it worked fine on beta 1 and 2 (both based on retail stock 4.2.2 I think) so I wonder whether it's moving to the GPE that has done it - does that fit with your experience moving to one of the CM11s?
I'm surprised that there are not more people who have this issue, however - I don't know whether we've managed to do something funny or if it is a proper bug...
Fixed!
I managed to get my GPS working!
Here are the steps I took:
1) Boot into (CWM) recovery
2) Backup your current ROM
3) Restore the stock ROM - you did make a backup before you flashed the custom, right?
4) Boot into the stock rom
5) In Settings->Location, switch on the GPS
6) Launch Maps app
7) Wait until you are located on the map
8) Reboot into (CWM) recovery
9) Restore your custom ROM
10) Reboot into your custom ROM
Your GPS should now work.... well mine did after taking these steps.
I'll also post this in a separate thread for anyone else that is having problems.

For me, it worked well on the first network I connected to but then although it could see the next one (home) it wouldn't connect. I was going to try incredibull's GPS fix by going to infusion b2 but found everything worked so I stuck with it. Hope you find a solution...

Ambient display keeps screen backlight on

Hello.
My problem is that sometimes, when I receive a notification, ambient display turns screen on to show it (as it should do normally), but then, when it is supposed to turn screen off again, it only goes black, but the backlight is still on. It's hard to notice, but I don't want the backlight on, using battery, when I think it's off.
The only way to turn it off is by activating ambient display again (moving the phone, waving in front of proximity sensor, pressing power button), and then it would show my normal lock screen and then turn off, until "something" makes it leave the backlight on again.
Anyone have/had/knows this issue? I've used Mokee ROM, now I'm on RR and it happened on both, I don't remember if it happened in CM. Could it be something app related?
Thanks.
Yeah same happened with cm 12.1 latest nightly too.....just checked it now...

Hi there !
When you have installed the custom rom, you have probably flashed directly from another custom rom , is this correct?
If so, it may be your phones drivers slightly messed up at the moment seeing as it has different parts from other roms, depending on how you flashed it.
My solution would be to flash the stock firmware , which can easily be found in the forums, and then flash twrp, then your rom of choice. If that doesn't work, its likely a bug in that specific build of the rom you are installing , seeing as another person who has replied has had the same problem .

That's strange! I guess it may be something like the drivers you said, because just one user said that have the same problem, but I'll have to wait until I have some free time to flash stock and root and flash CM and restore all apps and that again... I hate that part of installing another ROM.

Ok, I have spent some time thinking about this one for you, as I really want you to get this one fixed!
Although I need abit more information.
1) Does the issue occur on stock rom?
2)Are you sure it is not a problem with the build you are running?
3)What exact steps did you use to flash the rom?
To show that you appreciate my help so far, please click thanks

1)I can't tell if it occurs on stock, because on stock I use moto display (which doesn't have this issue).
2) I'm almost sure, because I've used 2 ROMs and both do the same. Maybe I'll have to try with CM nightlies?
3)I followed the guide in "general" section to flash stock using fastboot and android sdk. After that, I booted on stock, then rebooted to bootloader, flashed TWRP, entered to recovery, wiped data and then flashed RR ROM with it's gapps and then flashed moto camera and gallery. After that, wipe dalvik and cache and rebooted to system.
Right , ok. I recommend trying one of the cm12 nightly builds, seeing as they worked on my phone fine in terms of ambient display

Well, the other user that commented on this post was also using latest CM nightly, so I'm not very positive about it, but I may try it when I have time.
Well , looking at all of the information In this post , I think it is safe to say ambient display is not fully working on many roms :/
I installed a new build of cm12 earlier, and I found that sometimes the backlight will stay on , but other times it is fine.
If you want to work on this together, email me at [email protected] , and then we can look into it abit further ?
I will take a thorough look into the forums to see if others are recieving any problems as well .

[help] My WiFi is slow and disconnects

So last night my phones wifi was working fine. That's until I made a few modifications to it.
Things I did:
Installed TWRP Recovery Menu Moto G port
Installed CM13 Osprey Nightly 20160704
Installed SuperSU
Installed Gapps
Right after all that I realized my WiFi wouldn't connect during the CM13 setup. It just said saved after I entered the password. I tried manually connecting it, it went from full bars to one bar then goes back to saved.. When my phone actually connects to the WiFi it is running extremely slower than normal. It also disconnects at random times.
Things I've tried to fix the problem:
Reinstalling ROM w/wo Gapps & w/wo SuperSU
Trying new router
Allowing all permissions that were not allowed
Enabled legacy DHCP client (saw on a forum)
Contacting ISP to see the strength of modem
If anybody has a solution it would be appreciated. I am not sure what to do. Also im in the same room as the router so the connection strength should be solid. If any other information is needed I'll provide it asap. Thank you.
Try Resurrection Remix, Turbo, CandySix or another ROM... there was grumblings of WiFi issues on the last few CM nightlies in various forums (not just Moto G, but not all devices).
Just flash Resurrection Remix (or whichever ROM) and Mini or smaller gapps package, should be better.

I just finished flashing a new ROM. The ROM was called Turbo. But the sad news is I am still having the issue with the WiFi. Its extremely slow and sometimes I will lose connection to it.
Question: is it possible when I flashed a new recovery/ROM and rooted the device of ruined the WiFi adapter?

It shouldn't. If you are using a case check by removing it. Otherwise flashing firmware via fastboot again may help. I was having a problem of phone rebooting when sim was inserted, I flashed firmware and was good to go. It can solve issues with phone radio and subsequently (maybe) your wifi.

Very odd... Flashing a ROM or recovery doesn't touch the modem/radio firmware, although the WiFi on the Moto G 2015 is largely driven by the kernel modules that are compiled with it. Both CM and Turbo, and most roms for the G3 are based on CyanogenMod.
My next step would be to try another kernel, I use squid and WiFi works fine, but any newer kernel has the latest kernel drivers. If the results are the same, might be time to step back and reflash the latest stock Marshmallow image completely and work backwards... Root, test, Flash kernel, test, flash rom, test, etc.
You were in marshmallow before starting the whole thing, right?

I was on marshmallow before I did everything. Before I proceed with flashing the original Marshmallow image, is there anything I should take not of during the processes? Also this will make me sound like a noob but what do you mean flash the kernel?

Restoring the stock images is pretty simple, just log the process... It will return to compete stock.
In the Original Development area there are custom kernels, you can flash them with TWRP to replace the stock ROM kernel. Squid is my personal favorite, we'll balanced without tweaks.

Either restore the nandroid you (should) have from before rooting/flashing, or use lost101's guide and rom images to flash via fastboot. The threads are in general.

I don't have a backup because I don't have enough storage. But I did follow lost101s guide.
The bad news is I am still having issues with the wifi. It's not as bad though the speed is decent and it disconnects a lot and just shows saved.
Therefore the problem shouldn't be with the custom rom and I tried using a different device to see if it's my internet but it worked fine.
My conclusion is either the wifi/Bluetooth adapter needs to be replaced.
Although my problem was not solved thank you for trying to help me solve the issue! Much appreciated.
Oh a post after a long time.
I have been having exactly same issues but only with nougat roms.
If I restore my rr marshmallow backup wifi works just fine.
Is flashing stock firmware the only solution?
