Cyanogenmod for Exynos S7s - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Morning all,
I'm looking into the possibility of getting Cyanogenmod (likely 13) running on the S7.
I've recently found that I have a lot of time on my hands and as I'm a fan of the ROM it would be fun getting it up and working.
I'm posting this to gauge popularity as well as attract insight from experienced developers, I'm going to start development next week (PC issues = replacement) so any help is much appreciated

BUMP!

Good luck...

why the hell are you posting in dev section ? turn /brain on

It's a dev item, this will be updated as the ROM is developed.. doesn't really fit into 'questions and answers'
I suppose a mod can move it into 'discussions' to suit your requirements

where is this question on top of the topic a "dev item" ? where is the development you sharing ?
development section is ONLY for development, not for questions around CM13 or other stuff...
another thing of CM is not asking for ETA

I give up, clearly you know how the internet works best so you have won this round *standing ovations please*
I'll be back once I have put something together...

I am in if there will be good camera app, or native one.

He is willing to port cm3 to S7. He is testing how people would react to it before dedicating some of his time into the development.
@ha3kser Go ahead. I will test it since alpha stages to help you out.

ROM That Works

If you Verizon S5 Developer Edition owners are looking for a ROM that works go here: https://www.elementalxdesigns.com/eclipse/showthread.php?12016-ROM-TW-VZW-SV-Dev-Ed-SM-G900V. This ROM is a WIP but everything works and it runs smooth. It's a TW based ROM but it runs pretty nicely and every function works. The developer makes no promise as to the speed with which he continues to develop the ROM, but it is a pretty good ROM at this point.

Sorry, I didn't intend to break any rules. I know finding a stable ROM for the S5 (developer edition) is like finding hen's teeth so I thought I'd share. If I should delete this post I will.

Thanks for the help....done.
Been using this rom for a couple weeks. I haven't installed any of the updates yet. Everything works on it.
Can't wait until the retail S5 gets Safestrap as we should see a few TW roms. I've also been watching the unified development section. I'l looking forward to CM working out the bugs so those roms will be come stable enough for daily use.

The operative word in the OP is "works". The five ROMs listed in the thread you provided all have major issues such as can't receive or make phone calls, camera doesn't work, no data etc. To me that is not a stable/working ROM. But, it is a start so I'm not complaining.

Yeah, I tried a lot of AOSP ROMs on my S4 and was never really satisfied with any of them. The TW ROMs just seemed to run smoother and everything worked on most of those ROMs. But, I hold out hope for the S5 and AOSP ROMs , maybe there'll be a break through

Best Rom/Kernel

As its now open season on XDA for best ROM threads (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55678988&postcount=5) I thought I would post this
What's the best rom and or kernel for the s4?
Quality of post doesn't matter, and it doesn't matter how much work has been put into that ROM/kernel
It also doesn't seem to matter if you offend any devs with your response or we have these kind of threads (seemingly as per XDA mods)
Discuss..

in my opinion best rom is imperium rom if you want samsung tw
Well I didn't see that coming. Surely the "best rom" is particular to the user and there isn't an overall better rom. Perhaps the mods have given up and just want to contain the pointless personal opinions to 1 manageable thread.

Come on guys
When best ROM threads were banned, there was at least one thread popping up every day...now its a legit chat no one has an opinion?
What changed? Do you guys only like creating threads that aren't allowed? You certainly weren't bothered about XDA rules before...
For i9500 Omega is the best for me..
I would really like to see an updated version of Perseus kernel but I think that project is dead..
because of this reason, omega kernel is also best.

For goodness sake, DSA wants to know why "best rom" posts are now allowed even though there is no such thing and it can offend developers. Reading threads, especially the OP, before posting would go along way to improving XDA.
For me Phoenix rom is the best all the time. About kernel, I think alucard's
Pros: ahead of it's time (S5 mode and other features), rock stable and battery very friendly.
In the same time I'll be really hypocrite if I say this is the only one. Many others brought me love for my phone again as echoe, imperium, myba and your black box( which I wish to see continued some day
And there are some firmwares with great potential, which is also imprtant
Conclusion: lucky us
the imperium rom, because you have the s5 design and a stabel rom.
and the googy kernel. it has a good battery life. :good:
Lol, thanks
I'm staying subscribed to this thread until someone actually gets the point of the of the OP. Fingers crossed.
Pheonix with kt kernel smooth criminal v5 gives almost 5hrs+ SOT so Pheonix has been my fav rom since the day version 9.3 was released no bugs and everything works plus its very light thats the best thing and it was probably the first rom to make one handed operation work as on note 3 and s5[emoji14]

[a lill' bit of OT, excuse me]
/me have seen better times Naaah, rolling in silence here and there, since I worn myself out... and if explicitly not being poked, I maintain my calm and post where I see due. In fact I'm enjoying while always learning from XDA knowledge and masterpieces around S4.
Aside that, I'm toying with my phone, tweaking it to my preferences, but it seems I have to perk with it almost every time Google (continuously) screws it up with their Google Play services and additions I never needed :silly::silly:
[/a lill' bit of OT, excuse me]

[OFF-TOPIC] The one and only S4 off-topic thread

Hello everyone,
There's a huge amount of off-topic posts even if not declared with "OT" around threads in this XDA section.
So, I thought it's best to give a dedicated place where to talk about everything, hopefully this will reduce OT posts around forums, making them a better place for us as there should be less junk while trying to find what we need.
Now with that said, this doesn't mean that there are no rules in this thread, all of XDA rules still apply.
Flaming and the belittling of other users (of any title) will not be tolerated and dealt with harshly by the moderating team.
This should be a fun place for us all, to have a chat and a general vent of frustrations.
Lol :silly:
Fair point fella, but what's wrong with people posting in the off topic forum?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/off-topic
The s4 forum is for device specific threads..

[R&D]New CM ROM project - TESTERS NEEDED

Hi everybody...I just moved on to this device and even if I've read this section for awhile and knew there's not much development I still have hope.
So, I've discussed with some people I know and there is at least the will to try to develop something. @javelinanddart made some nice kernels for my old device and he wants to make a CM ROM for S6 Edge. I know there were other attempts and I know they failed (at least here I couldn't find anything else).
He needs testers...and when I say tester I mean no newbies or users that just want to be cool..real, good testers. Someone who's able to flash and test kernels and ROMs, someone who has some medium to advanced knowledge and of course knows how to flash, take logcats and things like that. So don't jump in if you think you're not qualified. Devs are more than welcome to join this if they want to.
We would like to start a specific Hangouts chat for that to be easier to communicate, there will be NO public releases untill at least a bootable build is made. As with any other development, there is a small risk of bricking the device if something goes wrong but that's a risk we all know and accepted when we start flashing. So once again, THIS IS NOT FOR NEWBIES, please don't even think about asking to be a tester if that's the case.
If there is anyone interested, please let me know by posting here and send your Hangouts contact via PM (I don't want to have a public disclosure of personal info)
Also if there is detailed info about development for this device like kernel sources, device trees, vendor files and so on, please post the GITHUB links, it'll help the development.
Thank you...

Thanks for posting this. The kernel will probably be stock kernel with a few patches, i'll be releasing source for that immediately, however, the trees will be closed till we can get a booting build, once it boots, and maybe fix a few issues, I'll leave it there because I don't own the device (however clicking the donate buttons a few hundred times if you like the project might resolve that ) Screenshots can be posted here, and updates on what works or if it boots or not can be posted here, but most of the discussion will be in the google hangouts chat.
I'm looking mostly at @BMc08GT's stuff right now, and mythos.... something I can't remember.

I'd be right happy to, but being a newbie to XDA prevents me from doing so. I've posted the ROM multiple times in moto g7 telegram channel, if you want to check it out, go there. Until I get 10 replies, no luck for xda
Well, anyway, here's the latest message. And here're sources. When I get the chance, I'll do 4.0 with android 10 base, but for now, this is all I can offer.
