Hi everybody...I just moved on to this device and even if I've read this section for awhile and knew there's not much development I still have hope.
So, I've discussed with some people I know and there is at least the will to try to develop something. @javelinanddart made some nice kernels for my old device and he wants to make a CM ROM for S6 Edge. I know there were other attempts and I know they failed (at least here I couldn't find anything else).
He needs testers...and when I say tester I mean no newbies or users that just want to be cool..real, good testers. Someone who's able to flash and test kernels and ROMs, someone who has some medium to advanced knowledge and of course knows how to flash, take logcats and things like that. So don't jump in if you think you're not qualified. Devs are more than welcome to join this if they want to.
We would like to start a specific Hangouts chat for that to be easier to communicate, there will be NO public releases untill at least a bootable build is made. As with any other development, there is a small risk of bricking the device if something goes wrong but that's a risk we all know and accepted when we start flashing. So once again, THIS IS NOT FOR NEWBIES, please don't even think about asking to be a tester if that's the case.
If there is anyone interested, please let me know by posting here and send your Hangouts contact via PM (I don't want to have a public disclosure of personal info)
Also if there is detailed info about development for this device like kernel sources, device trees, vendor files and so on, please post the GITHUB links, it'll help the development.
Thank you...

Thanks for posting this. The kernel will probably be stock kernel with a few patches, i'll be releasing source for that immediately, however, the trees will be closed till we can get a booting build, once it boots, and maybe fix a few issues, I'll leave it there because I don't own the device (however clicking the donate buttons a few hundred times if you like the project might resolve that ) Screenshots can be posted here, and updates on what works or if it boots or not can be posted here, but most of the discussion will be in the google hangouts chat.
I'm looking mostly at @BMc08GT's stuff right now, and mythos.... something I can't remember.

thanks for trying port cm to s6 edge, good luck!!
I'm in for testing. I've been doing this sort of stuff since Android version 0.7 on the HTC Vogue, so I'm no stranger to the type of effort involved. I'll PM you my Hangouts details now.
I am up for testing on s6 edge g925f
Um, if I'm not mistaken both GS6 Flat and Edge have the same hardware so maybe you can make this thread in Flat section? It would get to bigger audience. Also what about funding the device to @javelinanddart? I have seen fundraisers couple of times so maybe we will start one here too?

I need a T-Mobile S6 Edge then, i personally don't care about getting one, I'm trying to help @Rapier out. I'll do as much as I can but I'm busy AF with school right now, idk if this will get far, or how far it will get

I am a tester for the g925f
I have a g925p, the Sprint edition. If this will be compatible with my device, I'd love to test. I know my way around a logcat haha

I recently got my SG6 edge, i love the phone, it's design, the camera, but i damn touchwiz. it makes the phone look so cheap and laggy. so guys go for it - i'd also help you in testing
Edge and Flat version of Galaxy S6 share the same hardware so Flat version users can also participate in tests I suppose?
I know nothing about development but since we have unified kernels and roms that should be possible I think, right?

Its a couple extra steps, and doesn't really take much longer than flashing a rooted rom file. Plus flashing the patched HBoot is safer, and for how "easy" this is.. I wouldn't expect any dev to take the time and make just a "rooted" version of the rom to flash.
Odd. I don't see anything in the forum rules that say people should ask for help. I don't blame the guy for asking. Why not? What's next--create your own ROM, why should others do it? Figure out your own root method instead of asking someone if they have?
For all the people who give the guy grief about asking, maybe someone else will say, "yeah, that's a good idea" and help the guy (and others) out.
Joel
I think it's more that this person is asking in multiple places for a few hours. Coulda had it done by now. Just rubs some people the wrong way.
Wow guys, well I think I can officially say XDA is no longer the same site I thought it was....
FYI, I had already done the posted method no problem. The only reason I made this thread was in an effort to request if a developer (of which I am not) could create a simple ROM that would help other newbies out and make it an easy one-flash task so they don't have to worry. But no, I guess it's a sin to be a newbie now huh? How dare anyone request something so simple from a developer (especially when a well known dev already spent more work creating another version of the same ROM). So this should be even harder for them to do right? And honestly, why anyone sees this thread as a forceful obligation for someone to fulfill the request is beyond me.
Very productive and helpful posts everyone. Great job at showing how supportive XDA has become...
You do realize pulling the rom.zip from an RUU takes about 2 minutes to accomplish, including the time it takes to google the "how-to". But you would rather bother a dev to do it for you, adding the trouble of having to wait the 20+ minutes to upload the 350MB file to waste precious personal server space for a single person's downloading convenience. A 2 minute job turned 30 minutes of someone else's time cus you didn't feel like it. The difference between a good noob and a bad noob: good noob asks how to get roms from RUUs, bad noob tells someone else to do it for them without hesitation.

Oh please, you are defending yourself ex post facto because you were attacked for being shown that if it matters that much to help the new commers you could make what you wanted pretty quickly by following a how-to. If you really want to help them, you could have probably finished the how-to and posted it in the time you took to complain.
It's great to do things for anyone new and I am all for it (which is why in the few months I have been an official member, I have 60+ "thanks," most of which came from answering questions or giving out useful information.
No one is attacking you for wanting to help noobs, but people will call you out when you claim to want to help and are shown, but ignore it anyways. It comes back to the quote:

If all someone said was to google it or do this yourself without telling you how it could be done with links or something then that would be messed up, but they did not. They gave you links in both this thread and the other (the other thread giving you EXACTLY what you requested in a link).
IMHO if you really want to help those you say you want to help, you could create a post in the developer's forum linking to the post that someone gave you in the other topic from rootzwiki. That way they can be pointed in the right direction.
Hi,
I'm really surprised no one has made a tutorial for implementing Halo (PA Teams creation) into a rom. I think it would be really useful because lots of devs with roms would like to implement it into their rom but have no idea where to start. Making a tutorial would help a lot of people out and if you made it noobish enough it would be even better for people who aren't full time devs but would like to modify there own roms. Someone please help, it would be much appreciated from everyone here at XDA :victory:

I guess you just fork your desired ROM's repository (say, CM10.1) and merge the HALO repository with it.
Here are some things that you might understand (I don't):

And here is something I guess you must understand in order to continue:

Here's something I found about git that may be of some importance (to either refresh your knowledge or to give it to you in case this is your first time, like me):
http://git-scm.com/book
Forgive me for being dumb, I just can't seem to understand git no matter how many books I read
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know, I'm eager to start working
Is it possible for someone to add a step by step process for this? I have been trying to "git remote add" the various links I have found to my existing AOKP build with no luck. I fetch successful and ran a build but see no signs of HALO just my normal build.
Thanks

Okay, you seem to be having issues regarding understanding the rules here (or pretty much anywhere on the Internet).
Let me refresh your knowledge of the rules you just broke:
Spamming. You posted a "+1" to a thread of a Forum that uses "Thanks" (for which you beg in your giant oversized signature) for a single reason; to avoid spam posts like this.
Necromancing. You brought to life a thread's two weeks short of being abandoned for a full year. I get reviving a thread after 3 months if you have anything important to contribute to it, but after a full year, posting spam!?

Oops.. Sorry boss.. I didn't saw the date.. First infraction on my part.. Will never happen again.. And I will take full responsibility.. Sorry again..
SORRY FOR GOING OFF TOPIC
Heres my little rant, First I would like to thank the devs for some superb roms, and the admin for doing such a great job too...
But I bet you, im not the only one who feels this way.....
Once upon a time we were all new here, and we all of us have leaarnt a lot, and even built applications and roms....
But, there are people who dont listen, read, and just want to be spoonfed everything.......
Also there are others who EXPECT the latest things, the roms with the latest firmware, the latest version of the OS and dont understand the words ALPHA and BETA.....
The development forum, is just that, its for developers to post roms and kernals, and as most of the items are not 100% stable, some have bugs, but NO, users expect and demand it works out of the box, and expect every answer to be answered asap, WHEN the answers are more than likely in the Q and A forum.....
But my big bug bear, is that people mess with the roms, and then moan why doesnt this or that work....or can you add this or that....well, the idea of this site is for you to gather information and try yourselves.....if it works....YAY.....if not, either reflash and re do it again....
So if something goes wrong, your screen goes green, or a monster comes out of your earpiece, there is always a answer!
That's the reason, why those Q&A Threads are created by the Mods. They meant to keep the Development Threads clean.
I'm also tiered of Questions like, which GApps to flash, Kernel settings, etc. over and over again. So now people that are new to this stuff have and platform to discuss, help each other > Let's hope they use it and we can inform us about the Development stuff in Rom Threads without those annoying posts.
BTW: Interesting is this Guy who seems to have an problem with Clean, Rom related Development Threads.

In my experience a lot of people mistake this forum for a help desk.
They think we're all here to hold their hands through everything, and show them exactly what where when and how again and again, every step of the way. We're all happy to help, but none of us are willing to have to deal with constant problems caused by people who refuse to read the bloody description.

Some people apparently prefer utter chaos to clean order. Usually the ones who don't have to manage the mess. I would not want to be tasked with locating anything on that bloke's computer....

"That bloke's computer" is just fine and dandy, thanks - very tidy indeed. Nearly every medic I know is digitally very well organised , we couldn't do our jobs if we weren't. I have 5 TB of work-related data accumulated over a 26 year career. Or, to put it another way, don't make lazy assumptions about people you know nothing about.

Most of the CM12.1 ROMs have not been updated for more than a month. Except for Mokee ROM, and those guys don't even have a thread.
I know the rules of XDA about no ETAs and stuff, but I would like to know what's going on with CM12.1 development, will we get more updates, or is that it?
I also see CM13 is available, but that doesn't mean CM12.1 development should completely stop.

you bought a phone that doesn't have half as many developers as the more popular ones. the developers that are working on CM13 are the same ones that were working on cm12.1. If you want more regular updates, get a phone that is supported by developers, or better yet, work on becoming a developer so you can help them out.
More importantly, it doesnt matter if the developers stop developing cm12.1 or cm13 for that case. This is not a paid job and they are not obligated to develop. More often than not these developers are users who pay for the phones themselves and share their development so people like you and I can enjoy our phones more. It is and always has been, their prerogative. Respect that.

1. I didn't know bout the low number of devs, sorry for that
2. I get regular updates on mokee, I didn't ask for more updates, just information on what's going on, and whether I should stop expecting more cm12.1 updates from the Roms devs who have a thread
3. I tried my best to become a Dev, so don't call me out on that, I could barely download sources, it went on n on for over 3 weeks, so I couldn't, I even asked ppl if the sources could be transferred, but no luck there
4. I know devs aren't obligated to develop Roms n all for us, but asking for information, that would take them a minute to type out is not a crime, and I am certain that I didn't anything that might offend them, and if they are offended in any case, I'm terribly sorry.
I'm only asking the same question ppl have been asking in other ROM threads
And if I actually wanted to offend them I would have tagged them, which I didn't so it straight out means I am simply inquiring bout development progress
. Whatever you deduce from my original post, I respect the devs very much but once again asking for info where there has been none for over a month is not wrong.
You can read my post as negative or simply as me being inquisitive, that's not in my hands, it just depends on what kind of person you are.

point one, Well if you read the post quoted and not the post that you edited, you would see that your tone is ambiguous, especially this point "I also see CM13 is available, but that doesn't mean CM12.1 development should completely stop."
point two, if you had in fact read the related threads, you would have seen some, if not ALL of the developers give the disclaimer that they're working on some part of CM13. In fact the CM13.1 thread itself has the major mi4i developers involved to some extent. The onus is on you the end user to find all this information. If I could gather all this, I don't see why someone else cant.
point three, it was a suggestion that if you want regular updates to try and be a developer. No one is calling you out on that. I can't help if you have a inferiority complex and think that other people are targeting you.
TLDR: all the information you are "asking" for is available in some form on these very forums. Don't be lazy and read the threads. Don't expect the developers to answer each and every of your non-developer related questions.
Want more updated information? follow their progress on github. Since you've tried to download the sources, I'm pretty sure you know how to use github.

It is literally impossible to write something on the internet without people commenting on it. Moderators if you wish, delete this thread, because it is causing nothing but nonsense, rather than being informative which I wanted it to be in the first place.
and to the person who has this much time to criticize me rather than use it find info that I was asking for in the first place.
Its not wrong to write in ambiguous tones, if I speak that way normally. And if it had hidden meaning, seeking out the positive part in it is generally better. Anyways given your first response I changed it, so more people don't go on about it like you. No other reason to edit it.
To answer your question why can't I devote time to search through threads, well I did, but I also gave in time to create this thread so more members don't have to go looking for information, everyone's time is precious, I was trying to help people so they could find info in just one thread.
Your "suggestion" was just as ambiguous as my tone, so don't.
"Inferiority complex" hahaha, so funny I forgot to laugh.
I know it is and I have also read it, not lazy in anyway. I wanted to provide as I said before a thread where every other member who is not a dev or cannot use github can find info.
I have been providing help according to my capability since my Xperia phone, so your lazy comment is literally out of place. And btw it was one question, that too in the entire Mi4i forum. I am sure you can check in profile.

Let me just clear the air here. Fisrtly, one cannot "steal" something that is openly, publicly and freely available on github. In regards to the legal mumbo jumbo you posted, makes 0 sense to me and means nothing, since that is not the case we have here. I never once re-released anything, nor said anything about taking credit for the work you did. I simply put the rom together from open source materials, just as anyone in the world can /could do and released something that was not built and released. Big differences there. Now, had I hacked your github and started building and releasing your private folders, then what you are talking about would be on par with what you are posting. Long story short, I found the source, built the rom and tested it. I then uploaded the Rom and was in the middle of making this Main post when I came across your cm12.1 post mentioning 14.1. I then tagged you out of mutual respect for your work and personal feelings so that I would make sure that I wasn't stepping on your toes. I now know your feelings and that I am stepping on your toes. Because I have respect for you and your work, I have no problem deleting this thread and the Rom. Just didn't make sense to me at the time that somebody had done all that work and released no rom, so I thought I would be nice and help people out. The better thing to maybe have done, for the benefit of others confusion, is to make the 14.1 thread ahead of time, even if it's blank until release. Silly one would have to read hundreds of pages of cm12.1 stuff to get the gist of what's going on with unrelated 14.1 stuff. I do Apologize for any confusion on my part and any bad feelings you may now harbor. The Rom is your work and now that I know the timeline of things, I'll back off and let you handle it. I will be focusing on getting out more recoveries to compliment your rom. The recovery kernel is built using your sources but the device tree for it was fully made by me, so no confusion there. Again, sorry for basically beating you to the punch of your own release. Like I said, had I not read the cm12.1 posts, I never would have had a clue to any of this. Hopefully you can accept my apologies, move forward and be friends...

Hi,
Yes, you're completely right there (my bad): you can't actually steal something that is public in the web (I'll try to keep my future work in private repos until it's stable then). I was just really pissed off to see someone shared the ROM that I was working on (so hard for almost 6 months) in a new thread without even waiting for me to allow you or something. But whatever, no offence here (I accept your apologies) and as I previously said (telegram) thanks for understanding my decision and thanks for deleting the ROM. I'll try my best to get stable 14.1 working as fast as possible and I'll release it once it's ready. If people really wants to try the beta of LineageOS 14.1 I'll create an special post in the 12.1 thread with all the stuff later.
About the recoveries I know you just used my kernel tree, I was talking about the device tree/vendor tree you used to build 14.1 (which are the ones I've been working on this months).
Regards and sorry for the confusion.
Hey Rortiz2.

That would make sense. If you do not want to publish your ROM yet fire at least a non-open beta to get the ROM faster and more stable. Let me know if I can support you here in any way.
I would love to be able to test lineage 14.1 on this device, I have been using 12 on it since it released
