Which phone? - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
Long story short my G3 has failed me and LG are paying me a settlement since they won't replace it due to lack of stock so I'm looking to buy a new device under the £300 mark!
So far I'm debating on the OnePlus 3 or the Moto X Style (Currently £299.99 from the Moto site). Any other suggestions would be great.
Thanks.

[Q] Cyanogenmod for LG G Pro 2 D838?

When will Cyanogenmod for LG G PRO 2 release? I'm waiting since forever.
why not just trade in for a OnePlus? it's similar spec, cheaper and CM as standard.
Yeah, did that only.
Oneplus one is cheaper but invite system is a headache but somehow I was able to get an invite and I finally got the oneplus one.
P. S. Selling an LG phone was none less than a nightmare as most people still prefer a crappy second hand Samsung phone compared to a second hand LG flagship device with awesome specs.
Actually, OnePlus now use their own OS - Oxygen.
and every tuesday, you can buy the OnePlus without invite.

[Q] Droid Razr M, time for an upgrade?

Hey xda-developers community,
For almost the last three years, I have been a proud owner of a Droid RAZR M which has been a great phone. I also own a Nexus 9 which I really like having the stock android experience. I want a phone that can run the latest and greatest Android, even if that means installing a custom rom like Cyanogen. I only have a sub-$250 dollar budget (I know, it's low) and have had my eye on the Moto G. I would love to get something like the Xperia Z3 Compact, or an LG G3, but simply do not have the money. Is there some product that would reasonably fit in my price range, but have better specs that the Moto G (2nd gen)? I've had a look at the HTC Desire range and i'm a little unsure. The country I live in, it is very difficult to get mobile phones (no Amazon, very high import taxes) so I would buy this phone in July when I visit the United States. By then, the Moto G would almost be a year old. I may also visit the States again in Christmas and wait for the next Moto G or even the next Nexus. Is it worth the wait? I feel I am ready for an upgrade, as my Razr M is stuck on a build with tonnes of bugs, high battery drain, and I also have a cracked screen that I have not been able to find a replacement for here in my country, but if there are hopes of a better Moto G in the future. The Moto G appeals to me because it seems to have significant support with the XDA community (custom ROMs, kernels), but the specs are not great. 4G isn't that important to me, as 4G is expensive here as well as bad coverage. I just don't want to buy a phone that will be obsolete in a matter of months, if not obsolete spec-wise already. Will I just have to settle because of my budget? Is there some phone I simply have not seen yet?
Much Thanks, and forgive me for my ramblings,

G Flex 2, Moto X pure or G4?

I'm on the fence between these three phones and have found good prices for each of them. Since they're at a similar price range I'm torn between the 3 as they each have their strengths. Looking for a phone that would last. Help on a decision would be appreciated.
What are the traits you are looking for? I haven't seen the Pure and G4 as low as $250 but spending extra to get the right phone is a better deal than saving $50-100 on a device used all day long. I'm a huge fan of the Flex 2, had the G3 prior, have not owned the Pure or G4. The 810 processor can get VERY HOT at times but also runs faster than what the Pure and G4 run.
I want something like a future proof phone so that I don't really need to upgrade in a year or two. Is the 810 still worth it with the drawbacks compared to the 808? I'll be using the phone for mobile gaming and media consumption.

If it was 6 months ago I'd be tempted by the pure as Moto were very good with the updates. Now they've been taken over by Lenovo, I don't think they can be trusted. (Look at what they did to the Moto E.)
As the G4 is newer, it will get M sooner and has a better camera. I suspect you can get the Flex 2 much cheaper than the G4, so I'd go for the Flex 2 (H950 3GB version.) It really depends on your priorities and how much you want to spend. If you want everything, why not go for the Nexus 6P?
I guess the Flex is the most bang for my buck. I like the 6P but the sd card is a deal breaker for me. From the prices I found the 3 were a hundred dollars apart.

Which phone should I buy?

My trusty Nexus 5 has finally called it quits and I'm looking for an affordable 'good' phone to tide me over until I'm willing to shell out on a new phone again (at least a year, but my Nexus 5 lasted 3 years so who knows).
I am in the UK and looking to spend £200-£250. I was all set to buy the Moto G4 Plus (4/64GB model) but have discovered other options that may be to my liking.
Priorities:
not noticeably slower than the Nexus 5
east to root/ROM
good long term prospects of being supported by the XDA community
good screen (5-5.5 inch and >1080p)
I have currently got three options:
Moto G4 Plus (4GB RAM, 64GB) - £224
OnePlus 2, £250
LG G4, £250
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
In your options, the one plus2 is a good phone. I almost got the lg g4 last week but after searching I found that there are users saying they have a bootloop problem ( but lg will fix it) I dont want the hassle so I did not take the g4. For the moto g4, not sure.
I have an s5 right now. Bought it coz its only $50. Its better than my iphone 5s where I always have to charge it.

New phone to choose LG g5 or the honor 8

Hello community,
While custom development is very important for me, and I would build my own stuff what is the best phone to buy?
I know lg is not open to devs but the have some working roms.
Bot on this thread of honor 8 it seem that is not much progress of developing due the lack of sources from honor.
So I holding off to buy the honor 8 is there any news of progressing with the release of sources?
Since you are a developer I'd say you would be better of getting the LG G5. As it runs on the Snapdragon 820, which is easier to develop custom ROMs for than the Kirin 950 used in the Honor 8. However the Honor 8 does have much better build quality than the LG G5.

I usually stop reading right at this point and recommend a Nexus.

Yeah, a Nexus is the perfect device for custom ROM developers.
If you have to choice between Honor 8 and LG G5. Go with the Honor 8. LG doesn't unlock bootloader. Their customer service is horrible. I bought a brand new unlock LG Flex 2 and the battery die in 10 months. I contacted LG and they wouldn't fix it under warranty because it was bought unlocked. Their reason was I didn't buy it brand new because it was unlocked. I provided proof of purchase and it clearly stated the phone is unlocked and brand new with the purchase date within warranty. They refused to fix it.
Stay away from LG. Look through all the LG section here. People are frustrated with LG phones. This is why LG keeps losing money in their mobiles business. They make unreliable products and don't honor their warranty
I was just in the same position a couple of weeks ago. My Xperia Z5 compact battery was dying, and wouldn't even make it through a day. I did a lot of comparison between the LG G5 and the Honor 8. I finally went with the 64GB version of the Honor 8, and I have no complaints so far.
This doesn't really answer your question, but I thought I'd throw in my experience.
If that is your only choice go for honor. G5 modular concept really messed up their build quality. A friend of mine has one a while the bottom does not fit all that secure after he fiddles with it a lot. Now he uses Moto Z, seems more secure to me.
Thanks all, I am now having a Oneplus X. I will go for the honor 8! Nexus 5x is nice phone my girlfriend have it and she love the fingerpint scanner so that's why I pick those 2 phones plus and wanted better cpu and charging
