I'm on the fence between these three phones and have found good prices for each of them. Since they're at a similar price range I'm torn between the 3 as they each have their strengths. Looking for a phone that would last. Help on a decision would be appreciated.
What are the traits you are looking for? I haven't seen the Pure and G4 as low as $250 but spending extra to get the right phone is a better deal than saving $50-100 on a device used all day long. I'm a huge fan of the Flex 2, had the G3 prior, have not owned the Pure or G4. The 810 processor can get VERY HOT at times but also runs faster than what the Pure and G4 run.
I want something like a future proof phone so that I don't really need to upgrade in a year or two. Is the 810 still worth it with the drawbacks compared to the 808? I'll be using the phone for mobile gaming and media consumption.

If it was 6 months ago I'd be tempted by the pure as Moto were very good with the updates. Now they've been taken over by Lenovo, I don't think they can be trusted. (Look at what they did to the Moto E.)
As the G4 is newer, it will get M sooner and has a better camera. I suspect you can get the Flex 2 much cheaper than the G4, so I'd go for the Flex 2 (H950 3GB version.) It really depends on your priorities and how much you want to spend. If you want everything, why not go for the Nexus 6P?
I guess the Flex is the most bang for my buck. I like the 6P but the sd card is a deal breaker for me. From the prices I found the 3 were a hundred dollars apart.

I noticed the current Galaxy Nexus is 350$ which is a *great* deal on a fairly recent no contract device. (Was 400$)
The Nexus 7 is 200$ base price.
So, I am wondering if maybe the next generation of Nexus phone(s) could possibly launch in the 200-300$ range. While I may just be a little to hopeful, it doesn't seem like the antenna should jump the cost of a device that drastically.
So, what does XDA think? Would a sub 400$ phone have enough quality at launch? Or would they have to cut to many corners to make a device worthy of the "Nexus" name for phones? I would gladly pay an extra 150$ ish (around 350$ total) if it mean avoiding using an upgrade and getting locked back into a contract while getting relatively high end specs that (should) stay up to date for at least 2 years. Plus I would get to straight up bypass the manufacturers while getting almost guaranteed dev support.
It took almost a year for the gnex to reach that price, so yeah almost a year after the next nexus launcher, you will probably see a substantial price decrease.

I was more thinking about the nexus 7 launching with a tegra 3 and 1 gig of ram at 200$ range. Those are some pretty impressive specs for the cost. I am not trying to knock the nook tab or the kindle fire.. but, for 200$ if you want a tablet that doesn't require tweaking or much effort.. You're getting an extra 2 cores + stock jellybean.
While the Galaxy Nexus may have launched for more the price has dropped before it even saw a successor. A lot of phones will only drop in price once a successor has been released.

True, but the Galaxy Nexus with "worse" specs is still $350, phones are just priced differently.
I think the depreciation of price on samsung's devices is quite a lot. There is no point buying straight away anymore. Wait few months and you have a bargain.
The Nexus tablet is price controlled by Google to help make it even more attractive. I doubt they'll do the same with the next Nexus phone, but it will help drop the price of the Galaxy Nexus even more. Google and Sony seem to be the only ones who want to offer reasonably priced new-in-box devices.
I know all the tech sites and forums and whatnot always rave about the newest flagship device and seem to ignore even well specced budget phones, especially region or carrier specific ones. I am on T-mobile but am constantly checking out the new phones available on AT&T since T-mobile phones suck in general. There are some amazing budget phones that are almost as well specced and even better built, costing half the price, with 1/100 the publicity. Earlier in the year I bought a Pantech burst for one of my relatives. It only cost $200 on eBay. It was super smooth and fast, and the AMOLED screen made it pop. I was always playing with it and comparing it to my $450 HTC One X. The One X was actually slower, and the screen didn't feel as resilient. The camera was much better, but besides that, I couldn't really find any reason to justify the 2x++ cost.
Today I went to go play with more phones. AT&T has two new budget phones. The LG Escape and the Pantech Flex. They are both running a dual-core S4 and lightly skinned and super fast. Both have qHD displays at 4.3" with top tier IPS and AMOLED displays. At that screen size, 720p wouldn't have made much a difference for me or most people, and it's a perfect hand-holding size. I find it just as usable as the 4.8" S III, and even easier and faster than the cumbersome 5.3" Note I am currently rocking. The cameras are only marginally worse than top flagship phones, and they come with NFC and even big batteries. The LG Escape is a standout with 2150mah battery and a really great feeling curved and thin build that's grippy and rather seamess and unbroken. The petite size with very narrow bezels also makes it stand out. LTE is a given. Both devices are literally brand new just came out and you can easily find them on eBay for $250. I'm really digging the LG Escape and get more and more annoyed thinking about the $520 I dropped a couple months ago to get the international Galaxy Note in my pocket that is slow and clunky and big. And no it's not about price depreciation and tech obsolescence. The Note still costs $520 even today, and most flagship phones of yesteryear are still expensive on eBay.
Last year the difference between high-end and budget was more dramatic since the cameras were way better on the high-end side and you got dual-core instead of single core. The screens were also terrible with WVGA and poor viewing angles and colors. This year is very different. Budget phones have the same blazing S4 krait processor that the high-end has, with all the same NFC, GPS, bluetooth, and everything else under the sun. The cameras have not improved much at the high-end whereas the lower-end has caught up and is nipping at their heels. Build quality is even better on the low-end in many cases (cough S III cough), and they always have removable batteries and microSD slots to expand their pitiful 4GB of memory. In a month, the LG Escape and Pantech Flex will probably drop to $200. The S III and One X are both still super expensive. This year at least, the tortoise has caught up to the hare, and budget-conscious consumers should be aware how great the lower end offerings are this year, and not be afraid to save a ton of money. It's not every year the fastest processor available becomes commoditized for budget phones and carriers are forcing LTE and big batteries into everything from low to high.

It's a ZTE V970...not bad at all.

Wasn't really talking about benchmarks. Just general UI smoothness. The Burst felt a lot smoother, even within apps.
I'm basing these on eBay prices. Why would you want to lock yourself to a contract when you can save so much on monthly fees with a no-contract plan? I don't really pay attention to those Amazon Wireless or Best Buy or special sales because they all have a catch, and you usually have to be a new customer for the best deals.
The One X is still a good $350 for a new one on eBay.
I would not consider the Razr M a budget phone. It doesn't fall under $200. In fact, it's like over $450 on eBay. You could buy it on contract for $100, but the same goes for a lot of other flagship phones. The contract price usually doesn't correlate directly with the second-hand market price, so even if the Razr M dropped to free on contract, it would still be $400+. It only goes down over time. It's strange because if a phone is perceived as a budget phone like the Flex or the Escape, even if it has a $400+ MSRP, it will be a paltry $200 or less from the get go on eBay. It's all perception, even though the MSRP is probably right and the difference between the budget and flagship phone is really only $100-150 to buy retail as well as wholesale, people think they gotta price it way low since its budget.
It's kind of amazing how something like the Atrix HD, which is even faster/bigger/better than the original Razr on Verizon, is priced lower at around $300 new. The old Razr still commands $350+ for a new one. The Razr M still has qHD and the same internals as the Atrix HD but is a good $150 more. Yeah these are all eBay prices. Since the Atrix HD was launched as a budget $99 phone, even though the MSRP is probably only $100 difference at most from both old and new flagship phones, people will sell it much lower. Ditto for other budget phones that have an even bigger price disparity and sell for under $200.
It sucks if you have a budget phone and want to sell it used and get the most out of what the claimed MSRP is, but find out it sells for less than half that new and even less used. The on-contract price you paid is not a good measure of the phone's wholesale value the carrier paid since whether free or up to $200, the expensive contract plans make up for the difference and then some. That's how they can afford to drop everything to a penny on sale days, although they would of course love you to get the crappiest cheapest smartphone anyway. If you plan on buying these budget phones of course from eBay, and their perceived value drops them like a stone, it's a steal.
This minor difference between budget and high-end is gonna get much worse with Windows 8. They are all literally 1.5Ghz S4 Krait with 1GB RAM. Will a slightly better camera and a slightly bigger size/resolution screen really justify the over 2x price premium for a flagship?

I think a good budget phone with good specs as far as i search, sony experia tipo. Try to check it out in the web.
Definitely better if "budget" phones are simply last gen flagships. It would make for much better compatibility down the road.
That LG looks nice but I have a couple of friends LG phones and they have a lot of little issues so I'm a little gun shy of them right now.
I think we're starting to hit a sweet spot for phone tech. Jelly Bean runs great on a dual core phone with 1 gig so you don't need new tech for a nice phone.
I totally agree, just seeing the Galaxy S III on MetroPCS is pretty amazing. I know its kind of off topic, but it still surprises me.

It depends on the user. Not everyone would afford or even like to change phone after a year or two..
I have been looking at some of the Pantech phones as well. I havent pulled the trigger because I havent found much information on durability and reliability.
well for me i always prefer budget phones in general .. i don't like to spend much money on a phone that i could whack or loss any moment...

Well, I got a Samsung Galaxy S4 as a gift and as much as I appreciate it, I'm not a fan of the Samsung brand because of their build quality (it improved in those 2014-end devices but I'm talking about the GS4). The GS4 is being sold by the main stores at 399€ so I'm planning to sell it for 320€/350€, buy the OnePlus One and even buy a case/skin for it.
Well, trading the GS4 for the OPO is a no brainer but I am thinking in selling the GS4, get the money and save it to spend it later on a better 2015 phone.
What should I do? Should I buy the OPO, should I buy another device or should I wait? I would buy the OPO without a doubt if it was some months before but after hearing all the confusion between OnePlus and Cyanogen, CM12s being promised to around this date and still being unreleased... Should I wait for a possible "OnePlus Two"? Should I buy a Nexus device? (I currently own a Galaxy Nexus)

You won't get $350 for your s4, check swappa.com for me easy place to sell and to get a realistic idea of what you'll get for yours. I've had a lot of phones and the 1+1 is far and away my favorite. Dev community is excellent, hardware is top notch, great speakers, beautiful screen, awesome battery life, it's really does everything perfectly. How long do you typically keep your devices, though? If you want to keep your next phone for more than a year, I'd say to wait and see what 2015 flagships bring.
Without a doubt if your interested, buy the phone! I've recently bought a Nexus 6 and the OPO is still one of my favorite phones of all time even compared to the Nexus 6!

Nah man, I can sell it for 350/320€ without a problem. Here in Portugal mobile contracts are rare, 95% of the population buys the phones carrier locked (which means we can only use that carrier's SIM cards in our phones) and the devices are expensive. GS4 is being sold at 399€ new in the big carriers so I can sure sell it for less 50 or 80 euros.
I have my Galaxy Nexus for almost 3 years and I don't change my devices often, maybe 3 to 4 years. I also can't spend over 500€ on a device so I don't have wallet for a HTC or a LG or a high end Samsung (even though they aren't the best price/quality choices, I'm just stating xd).
I would be sad if I bought the OnePlus One today and June or July comes and "OnePlus Two" comes at the same price, with better specs and the CM12s. But I don't also want to wait until OnePlus decides do reveal or not a new device. That's why I'm asking here, to know the thoughts of the ones who bought the OPO since they sure are better informed than me.
Definitely get it. I had motorola, samsung, nexus etc I even had the LG G3 before coming to the 1+. I love it, hands down the best phone I have owned and I wouldn't get rid of it till it is properly dead.

I wouldn't be sad, theres always going to be the 'next' follow up phone, even if you buy the 'newest' it doesnt take long for a successor to come along or at least the rumours. With the Oneplus One you are still getting great value for money, stable CM11S, CM12S due shortly (definitely), along with OxygenOS and lot of other custom ROMs to pick from. Not to mention the obvious like nexus-easy bootloader unlock and root.
You can also now get a OPO relatively easy, plenty of invites knocking about or just purchase directly every Tuesday. I imagine its going to be pretty hard to get hold of an invite for the Oneplus Two when its released, as I'm guessing it will be invite only for the first while, so factor that into your thoughts around waiting time/availabilty.
I've had the Galaxy S4, HTC One M8 and Nexus 5 all within the last 5 months and overall the OPO is better than them all. Theres no added bloat, no difficulty/warranty issues unlocking the bootloader, solid stock CM and as many custom ROMs as you like and the battery life is fantastic. In terms of the nexus 5, its basically a nexus 6 for those who were underwhelmed by the nexus 6, in terms of large (without being too large) screen, great battery life (non 2k screen), decent camera and very reasonable price.
I'm looking at picking up a phone on a budget and the Nexus 5 is a definite contender from just looking around. Reviews and such are great, but they're mostly just yapping about specs and not actually telling me if it's good or not. That's why I'm asking here, finding out from the people who know the phone best!
So, is it worth it at this point? Is the lack of an SD card slot as irritating as I would assume? For those with multiple devices, is there another phone you can compare it to?

I'm getting a phone on a contract, so the Nexus 5 is $0 on a 2 year contract from Virgin Mobile. They have the LG G3 too (no G2 any more, but that's okay) for $0 as well but I'd have to pay for a more expensive plan. Broke life bites, but everybody needs a phone, and I'm never home so a land line is useless to me lol.
id say that if you are like me, a college student, and dont use your phone for about 3 classes a day plus an hour worth of driving, then the nexus 5 is definitely worth it and the battery can be ignored. If you use your phone like a desktop then id look elsewhere, i can pack out amazing battery life on my n5 but compared to other phones that get the job done at no extra battery cost, those are worth it.
The n5 is still a beast phone and i will keep it till it dies even though i can go get the lg g2 from my mom and just swap sim cards, plus she wants my phone cause its a tad smaller, but i love my nexus. something about it just cant be replaced.
1+1 is a nice option too
It's amazing how well the N5 has held up this late in its life. I have an N5, a 2014 Moto X, and an iPhone 6 and the N5 still gets used at least as much as the other two. I have a tendency to buy a new phone every 6 months or so, selling the old one to pay for the new. I've NEVER made it past the year mark with any phone other than the N5, and we are well past a year now. There's just something about it that still compels me to use it, and I'll certainly never sell it. So you ask if it's still worth it? Absolutely.

Definitely worth getting of you can find one. The play store is sold out I believe. You can try your local Craigslist, even better on swappa.

Another vote for yes. Like metalhead, I've never been happy with an Android device for even a year, until my N5. Bought at release, and if I didn't shatter the screen a month back, would still be using. As is I'm on a moto x 2014, and while I do like the phone, and it really is a better phone, I'd still almost prefer to be using the N5.
As for no SD, I buy everything in 32GB and find I always have plenty of storage space for my needs.
I will agree the battery was pretty bad, but as I'm not a heavy user I never had a problem making it through a day on a charge.
I've had this since December 2013. No intentions of changing!
Support wise, custom Roms etc........ its hard to beat a Nexus device.
I would say N5 is still a very worthy choice:good: at the right price.
I recommend buying new. The warranty is so worth it.
Never buy used nexus 5's simply because there will always be something you might have issues with and no warranty :/
One note. You can't compare a 1+1 to a nexus 5. One is a phablet the size of my face and the other is a phone with a nice size display. The 1+1 is only 2mm shorter and narrower than the nexus 6....just to put it in perspective. Its a great phone but there are a huge risk to buying it.
I recommend buying like a small 2000mah battery pack that's the size of 2 flash drives and carrying that with you in your car or something. Just in case.
Is the nexus 5 worth the 350-400$? Yes.
Just got my sister a moto g 2014, looked at the specs, and they are exactly HALF of the n5, so if we do math, 203$ for the moto x2 = 406$.

Light user: you use your phone mostly after the work day, and then you don't use it too much. You should have around 75% by the end of the day (my experience).
Heavy user, you have plenty of free time or you need your phone 24/7 cause you have your own business, you will be charging your phone around 4-5pm if you wake up at 6am.
My trusty Nexus 5 has finally called it quits and I'm looking for an affordable 'good' phone to tide me over until I'm willing to shell out on a new phone again (at least a year, but my Nexus 5 lasted 3 years so who knows).
I am in the UK and looking to spend £200-£250. I was all set to buy the Moto G4 Plus (4/64GB model) but have discovered other options that may be to my liking.
Priorities:
not noticeably slower than the Nexus 5
east to root/ROM
good long term prospects of being supported by the XDA community
good screen (5-5.5 inch and >1080p)
I have currently got three options:
Moto G4 Plus (4GB RAM, 64GB) - £224
OnePlus 2, £250
LG G4, £250
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
In your options, the one plus2 is a good phone. I almost got the lg g4 last week but after searching I found that there are users saying they have a bootloop problem ( but lg will fix it) I dont want the hassle so I did not take the g4. For the moto g4, not sure.
I have an s5 right now. Bought it coz its only $50. Its better than my iphone 5s where I always have to charge it.
