Does 4G LTE work with T-Mobile SIM card? - Verizon LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hi,
Has anybody tried yet if T-Mobile 4G LTE work on the phone without any hacking required? To give you some background, on the G4, getting T-Mobile LTE to work require rooting and chasing some system parameters. Wondering if that has been fixed on the G5 and works out of the box now.

I'll have access to a t mobile sim tomorrow. I give it a try and let you know.

I put in the T Mobile sim card in my VS987 and I was able to get 4G LTE. It was using Band 4.

That's great news, the LG G4 was limited to HSPA+ only.

not anymore, theres plenty of threads on verizon g4 sections that explains how to get constant 4g signals and i got it to work on my g4 with 4G LTE all day long

Hi I was wondering how you were able to get data on your LG G5. I currently have a T-Mobile SIM in a Verizon LG G5 but I don't have any mobile data? What network settings do you have?

chances are he got it for a minute or two and then it went to 3g or HSDPA after that. There seems to be no good way to get LTE for tmobile on this phone.

I had to try a ton of various APN settings before I got one to stick. Unfortuntally for you, I transfered that phone over to an VZW unlimited plan in April and no longer have an active T Mobile service line to mess with.

GSM? My Sprint SGSIII does not have a sim card. But I will go see what you're referring to. Thanks.

Unfortunately the sim card for the sprint version is internal so that wouldn't work for sprint phones.

It won't happen, unless you have an in with someone in Verizon that can add your ESN to the system manually (not bloody likely), the ability to flash a Verizon ROM on your phone (difficult, but not impossible, but a fast way to a softbrick), the ability to unsolder the Sprint LTE SIM from the phone and replace it with a Verizon one, and the ability to live without LTE for the life of the phone.

Well, that doesn't sound very appealing, living without LTE. But heck, I can't use it now anyway since Sprint's LTE service is up in almost NO locations

[Q] US GSM Moto G won't work on AT&T

Hi guys,
Just got my Moto G from Amazon. Upgrading from a SG2 skyrocket. Went to AT&T store to get a micro SIM. Before leaving the store I made a test call, worked perfectly. When I got home I wanted to test the HSPA+ speeds. It won't connect to mobile network. Called AT&T and they said the IMEI is not recognized in their system as a phone, and as such, will not be assigned a data plan. I called Motorola and they said since I bought it from Amazon, only Amazon can help me.
So I requested a new unit from Amazon, but then I got thinking...is there a way to fix this without having to return it? I don't want to go back to my SG2 for a week while I wait.
As a secondary note, I had my SG2 look for the Moto G via bluetooth and it was recognized as "XT-######". I thought that was strange that it wasn't called Moto G or something similar.
Any help or ideas?
Thanks,
D.

You need to find out what AT&T's APN settings are (Or whatever carrier you're using) and double check if they match with the one you've chosen on your phone.

wait it's not recognized as a smartphone by AT&T? You may have just answered my question! I was looking everywhere to confirm this. I want to get the G for my mom to use on her line, she has a data block, I don't want to use data. So can you confirm this?

Just replied to your thread. It won't work. AT&T eventually recognized that it was s smartphone trying to connect to the network. They put me on a pay-as-you-go data plan at $2/mb.

AT&T also has its own prepaid (GoPhone) where you can get unlimited voice/text for $50 no data (wifi only) and aren't required to purchase data. However, it's cheaper to go through an mvno like he said.
I'm on GoPhone myself but I'm debating if it's worth the potential customer service hassles to move to a cheaper MVNO like H20 or Airvoice.

are you sure? Because in my situation, the line already has a Data Block. I read somewhere that as long as you do the data block on the line before switching sims, they can't know it's a smartphone. I may just try it and see if they find out. I'll disable Mobile Data from the phone and make sure it always has WiFi.

Unlocked G2 no data on AT&T

Hi all!
I unlocked my T-Mobile G2 successfully and took it to AT&T to get on the Go Plan.. The sales rep put in the sim card, money into my account and my call and text is good to go.. however there is no data at all.. I called AT&T CS and they gave me APN settings but still no data.. Ive seen people say they have LTE working on the same set up.. Any advice? Would flashing a stock AT&T G2 Rom work or would i get bricked?
Seems like the phone is compatible and uses similar bands.. At this point I don't care if it is 3G, 4G or LTE.. I just need data lol..
BUMP
I have an unlocked T-Mobile LG G2 and it gets data fine on the AT&T Network with H2O (an AT&T MVNO). Double check your APN settings, and make sure data and sync are enabled.
I got a tmobile G2 on AT&T as well (Cricket mvno) and have no lte. I get 3g speeds which tops out at 2 or 3 mbps but i get no att 4g speed.

Yes, I got LTE with a Straight Talk (AT&T network SIM) on the T-Mobile LG D801. I did have 2 issues with the service:
- Every now and then, right after I end a call I would lose signal for a few seconds.
- Once in a while data would stop and I would need to go to airplane mode and back to get it to work.

Are you running custom ROM or stock? What APN settings are you using. Where are you located? Sorry for the 20 questions just trying to get everything lined up and ready to go so when I get my g2 I will be ready to go. I already have all the software to root and flash custom recovery and my unlock code ready. Thanks for any helpful information you can provide

Do not flash ATT&T firmware on to your ATT&T phone.
You are describing the exact issue my bud had when he went to cricket. No Data Service. He called cricket and download a small package they sent through sms and then had him respond to the text with a pin. Fixed him right up. Call your service provider and explain the whole no Data issue.
Also, I don't know how you unlocked it, but if you used a method where you copied over files then that may be the problem.
I had a sprint G2 along with my TMO G2. With the sprint one I put a custom Firmware TMO base on there and it worked fantastic really glad someone made a sprint firmware that could support TMO. If you haven't tried this type of method I would. That could solve the problem.

Note 5 on Cricket?

I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. I'm trying to help a friend out by doing a little research.
A friend's daughter has a Note 5 on Verizon. (Long story short, friend's ex husband is supposed to pay for daughter's cell phone as part of divorce agreement. He did for a few months and then skipped town. Phone was cut off.) My friend has a phone on Cricket, and was wondering if she could use the Note 5 on Cricket. The local rep tells her that she cannot, that the phones are incompatible with Cricket's network, but I'm wondering if it is just their way of trying to get her to buy a new phone.
It's not a big deal if the Internet part of the phone works (her daughter mostly uses wifi anyway), but the phone part needs to work.
I'm using a Verizon note 5 on cricket. You get 4g lte but I'm having issues with mms. Sometimes mms will work and other times it won't
Did you just put the Cricket SIM in and go, or was there anything else involved?
I put in the cricket sim card and enter the apn.
Cool. My friend is going to go to Cricket and get the SIM kit and I'll hafta punch in the APN data for her later...

I had the same issue. I do get 4G LtE in some areas but not all the time
Also, if you see the carrier it says ATT not Cricket...
UPDATE: My understanding is that ATT/Cricket works in a different LTE band than Verizon. So that might be the issue. Not sure if you can change that in a non-rooted phone.

More than likely it's probably because Verizon's network is CDMA and Crickets network is GSM and they are incompatible with each other. You can check and see if you can switch the bands but I don't know if it's possible to do that on the Verizon phones since they're locked down so tight..

I actually got it working! This is for anyone that sees this. I entered cricket apn, then I was selecting global, and gsm. I figured those were the 2 that I needed, so I went back and forth between the 2, getting more frustrated! I finally decided screw it, and selected CDMA/LTE and low and behold!!!! The 4GLTE signal popped right up! So it is working, mms too. I'm stoked.
Edit, after further testing, calls will not work while in CDMA mode. Sucks, but I think it was too good to be true. So here's what I came up with.....toggle CDMA/LTE mode, wait for 4GLTE to pop up, once it comes on, toggle back to global mode. 4GLTE will stay enabled, until a call comes in. After your call, H+ will pop in, just toggle the CDMA/LTE, and back to global. This is the only way I've found to have constant LTE.
It seems that to enable the LTE bands, they must be enabled by toggling the CDMA on. Weird but it is what it is, especially with not having root.

Many are wondering because you can get the G5 for $120 from Best Buy right now. The AT&T version is really the one to get, but I believe the Verizon one, while unlocked, doesn't have all of Tmo's bands available. They hide them. You do get 2 and 4 but no band 12.
I'm not active in this forum, and I haven't picked one up yet as I'm resisting the urge and have a Z play and Note 4. But if you can root and get into the service menu you could/should be able to make band 12 usable.
Anyone else have anything to add/offer?
Currently we are only seeing HSPA+ and not LTE with a CRICKET Sim inserted.
I don't understand why it won't get LTE on Cricket. It has band 2 and 4. Maybe I have a defective phone.

No same thing here with T-Mobile SIM.. If you put it on LTE/CDMA the LTE sticks but since we don't have VoLTE on the VS987 its pointless to do that unless you don't care about incoming calls. This has been a issue for verizon LG phones after the G3 and to make things worse *#*#4636#*#* is disabled.
