Unlocked G2 no data on AT&T - T-Mobile LG G2

Hi all!
I unlocked my T-Mobile G2 successfully and took it to AT&T to get on the Go Plan.. The sales rep put in the sim card, money into my account and my call and text is good to go.. however there is no data at all.. I called AT&T CS and they gave me APN settings but still no data.. Ive seen people say they have LTE working on the same set up.. Any advice? Would flashing a stock AT&T G2 Rom work or would i get bricked?
Seems like the phone is compatible and uses similar bands.. At this point I don't care if it is 3G, 4G or LTE.. I just need data lol..

BUMP

I have an unlocked T-Mobile LG G2 and it gets data fine on the AT&T Network with H2O (an AT&T MVNO). Double check your APN settings, and make sure data and sync are enabled.

I got a tmobile G2 on AT&T as well (Cricket mvno) and have no lte. I get 3g speeds which tops out at 2 or 3 mbps but i get no att 4g speed.

I switched to Straight Talk (AT&T network) a few days ago and I get LTE (H2O only had access to the HSPA network of AT&T but not to the LTE or the GSM). Make sure you have LTE enabled in Settings -> Tethering & networks -> Mobile networks -> Network mode

Yes, I got LTE with a Straight Talk (AT&T network SIM) on the T-Mobile LG D801. I did have 2 issues with the service:
- Every now and then, right after I end a call I would lose signal for a few seconds.
- Once in a while data would stop and I would need to go to airplane mode and back to get it to work.

That is awesome to hear thanks for the quick reply. I am really glad to hear that I hope I have the same luck. I have one in layaway at a local trade it store fixing to ditch Verizon in late November coming from a galaxy nexus.

Are you running custom ROM or stock? What APN settings are you using. Where are you located? Sorry for the 20 questions just trying to get everything lined up and ready to go so when I get my g2 I will be ready to go. I already have all the software to root and flash custom recovery and my unlock code ready. Thanks for any helpful information you can provide

Do not flash ATT&T firmware on to your ATT&T phone.
You are describing the exact issue my bud had when he went to cricket. No Data Service. He called cricket and download a small package they sent through sms and then had him respond to the text with a pin. Fixed him right up. Call your service provider and explain the whole no Data issue.
Also, I don't know how you unlocked it, but if you used a method where you copied over files then that may be the problem.
I had a sprint G2 along with my TMO G2. With the sprint one I put a custom Firmware TMO base on there and it worked fantastic really glad someone made a sprint firmware that could support TMO. If you haven't tried this type of method I would. That could solve the problem.

[Q] Tmobile HTC One S on AT&T, only calls and text, no data..help

Ok
I've been trying to get this to work all day.
Spent two hours on the phone with AT&T
No luck.
What I have, my microsim from AT&T iPhone 4.
I put it in a htc one s purchased from amazon.
I can make phone calls and text, but no data.
Called AT&T.
The lady spent an hour messing around with mobile
network settings, APN settings, and I still have nada
Any ideas or help is GREATLY APPRECIATED.
I've searched various forums, etc.
Nada
I've reset phone at least 3 times.
Did the person who unlocked it do a crappy job
Would it still make calls and text if it wasn't unlocked.
Thanks.
1) APN settings. are you sure you've CORRECTLY taken care of that? use wap.cingular if you have grandfathered 3g unlimited plan, or use the "phone" apn if you are on HSPA+ plans. I know you said you tried apn settings but your problem really sounds like it originated from incorrect apn
2) are you using a EU or t-mobile based rom? I tried both and data works on both. but it disconnected periodically on a EU-based rom. When I was on the stock t-mobile rom, I popped in my simcard, deleted the original t-mobile apns and added my ATT apn, and data started working
3) even though my data works, sometimes its funky. The up and down signal would go on and off. To fix it, I need restart the mobile network (switch to wcdma only then back to wcdma/gsm auto)
I'm on TMo and my phone started acting the same as far as i know today. Unlocked and rooted, went through and deleted the bloatware yesterday. Data was working night before and been on WiFi today, but when turned WiFi off then there was no data connection.

4.5. Unless your area doesn't have good 850mhz coverage.. then you're SOL with the EU version.
Luckily most of the towers in the larger cities in my area have been upgraded.

Straight talk SCH-S986C

So I snagged a straight talk galaxy S3. I've already got it rooted running official cm12 for the Verizon varient. Is it at all possible to get this thing to pick a verizon/page plus sim? From looking around I've come to the conclusion that the Verizon S3 is the most similar. What would be the options?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Anyone?

There is a sim slot. I actually have Verizon contract. After flashing everything an changing a few settings I have talk, text and data but its steady roaming..I wonder if I'll get charged for roaming? Anyways I'm sure if everything is working there's gotta be a way to stop it from roaming.

Maybe a modem? Been scared to try it because I'm confused as to what will cause my boot loader to lock.
Don't know why it worked but *228 just fixed my roaming problem. I thought you couldn't *228 a LTE phone? I know the straight talk S3 has 4G disabled but I'm still running a 4G LTE sim card. This is really strange lol. Never in a million years would I have thought I could get a prepaid phone running on Verizon contract. Maybe pageplus will work as good so I can get away from these high bills and get unlimited internet.

Wondering what it takes to make this phone a full Verizon phone. It runs off the Verizon towers, its running a Verizon ROM and recognizing it as a i535. What else would need to be changed? And exactly where do they disable 4G? In the modem or physical hardware of the phone? Maybe someone will help! I do not want to use this s4 anymore. Locked bootloaders kill me lol.

Well I'm making the switch to straight talk today. Hopefully cdma workshop can get 4G working. I've searched and searched and I can't find any explanation as to why or where the 4G is deactivated. by the process of elimination, I've come come to the conclusion that it has to be in the physical hardware. I'm going to try one more thing before I start tinkering with cdma workshop. I'm going to try to flash a d2lte rom to see if that does it. anyone know of a lollipop d2lte rom?

I think the issue with the straight talk S3 is indeed the hardware, they managed to remove the 4G option on this variant and the VZW prepaid version also

I'm wondering if the process they used is the same process page plus retailers used on 4G devices..because my girlfriend had a Verizon s3 that they had to flash to 3G so it can be used on pageplus..when she switched to a note 2 a few weeks ago they told her they offered Verizon's 4G coverage now and she would get it on her note no flashing required. Worked right outta the box. We took her old s3 and hooked it up for my mom. They said that it had to be flashed back to 4G so I'm wondering if straight talk flashed this phone to 3G only with flashing software..if so, is there a free program anywhere to do this? The CDMA workshop trial has never given me the outcome I was looking for.

If you are saying that you were on Verizon because you had the Verizon wireless showing in your status bar or because it said it in your phone somewhere then no you weren't on Verizon, your phone showed that stuff because it has that stuff in your build.prop, that doesn't mean you were on Verizon, the only way to actually be on Verizon is if you actually setup an account with them and activated the phone on their network. Supposedly Verizon won't let you activate a straight talk phone on Verizon account, this device is not able to carrier unlock and that's what you have to do to actually switch carriers and use your IMEI on another network. It shows SCH-I535 because of the build.prop, all of that Verizon stuff and the i535 stuff can be edited in the build.prop, that has nothing to do with who you actually have service with, that's just there because its written in the ROM.

Could you guys , anyone, tell me if you can roam on regional towers like verizon does with straight talk smart phones? I've tried selectel in the past and have had nothing but trouble thus far.
I tried activating an old droid x2 on tracfone and when I got it home it wouldn't roam on regoinal towers where verizon and tracfone dumb or feature phones will roam. I was told that tracfone android phones will only operate on verizon towers only. Since I had verizon before, and the tracfone coverage map covers my area, I assumed it would work. After a lot of back and forth travelling 45 min one way to activate on a verizon tower, and it finally did, I had zero coverage once I got about 30 minutes from home and then again none at home either. A tracfone rep as well as other forums said that tracfone androids only operate on real verizon towers, and at my home there's only regional towers.
So does anyone know if straight talk will roam on towers that verizon normally does? I know selectel did without data, voice only, at home on those regional towers, then something screwed up and it now only works on verizon towers or verizon network extenders which I don't own. Since selectel released their 4g sims, my selectel dealer said that would fix it. But no it didn't . I've been unable to get a straight answer from either selectel or the selectel dealer in my area, he originally flashed it to 3g only which he guaranteed me ws not illegal, but I wonder about that. Anyway, They can't get it fixed back properly.
If I can get a straight talk monthly plan cheap enough, I'd gladly switch as long as it roams on regional cdma towers that I have both voice and data on with verizon.
I just can't afford big red anymore, at the moment.
Thanks for any and all responses.
Nope - Straight Talk doesn't do roaming. You pay less, you get less... Don't expect ST to do OTA updates either - they won't!

Note 5 on Cricket?

I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. I'm trying to help a friend out by doing a little research.
A friend's daughter has a Note 5 on Verizon. (Long story short, friend's ex husband is supposed to pay for daughter's cell phone as part of divorce agreement. He did for a few months and then skipped town. Phone was cut off.) My friend has a phone on Cricket, and was wondering if she could use the Note 5 on Cricket. The local rep tells her that she cannot, that the phones are incompatible with Cricket's network, but I'm wondering if it is just their way of trying to get her to buy a new phone.
It's not a big deal if the Internet part of the phone works (her daughter mostly uses wifi anyway), but the phone part needs to work.
I'm using a Verizon note 5 on cricket. You get 4g lte but I'm having issues with mms. Sometimes mms will work and other times it won't
Did you just put the Cricket SIM in and go, or was there anything else involved?
I put in the cricket sim card and enter the apn.
Cool. My friend is going to go to Cricket and get the SIM kit and I'll hafta punch in the APN data for her later...

I had the same issue. I do get 4G LtE in some areas but not all the time
Also, if you see the carrier it says ATT not Cricket...
UPDATE: My understanding is that ATT/Cricket works in a different LTE band than Verizon. So that might be the issue. Not sure if you can change that in a non-rooted phone.

More than likely it's probably because Verizon's network is CDMA and Crickets network is GSM and they are incompatible with each other. You can check and see if you can switch the bands but I don't know if it's possible to do that on the Verizon phones since they're locked down so tight..

I actually got it working! This is for anyone that sees this. I entered cricket apn, then I was selecting global, and gsm. I figured those were the 2 that I needed, so I went back and forth between the 2, getting more frustrated! I finally decided screw it, and selected CDMA/LTE and low and behold!!!! The 4GLTE signal popped right up! So it is working, mms too. I'm stoked.
Edit, after further testing, calls will not work while in CDMA mode. Sucks, but I think it was too good to be true. So here's what I came up with.....toggle CDMA/LTE mode, wait for 4GLTE to pop up, once it comes on, toggle back to global mode. 4GLTE will stay enabled, until a call comes in. After your call, H+ will pop in, just toggle the CDMA/LTE, and back to global. This is the only way I've found to have constant LTE.
It seems that to enable the LTE bands, they must be enabled by toggling the CDMA on. Weird but it is what it is, especially with not having root.

Verizon S7 Edge (SM-G935V) on AT&T with LTE tip

Hi all, just giving a quick 2 cents after my recent experience attempting to activate a Verizon S7 Edge on AT&T.
*Following a data reset you will need wifi for initial setup if you are using an AT&T sim card.
After following the guide in AT&T's web site for APN settings I was not able to get any data or mms service (this is using the NXTGENPHONE APN), so I did some experimenting. The following APN settings worked for HSPA+ data and mms, but NO LTE and NO MMS if connected to WIFI:
Name: ATT
APN: phone
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: not set
Password: not set
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
Multimedia message proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
Multimedia message port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: not set
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Bearer: unspecified
Mobile virtual network operator type: none
Mobile virtual network operator value: not set
So at this point I had NO LTE service and NO MMS IF connected to wifi. Utilizing the LTE Discovery app from the play store I could see that LTE was "not available" but on my wife's S7 she was getting LTE on Band 4. To make a long story short I got online to an AT&T chat rep who told me that HSPA+ and LTE are the exact same and they just show up different on different phones... THIS IS NOT CORRECT!
I educated the dumba$$ rep that HSPA+ and LTE are not the same, and asked to speak to a tech support SPECIALIST. After a short wait for transfer the final solution that worked was to have the specialist change the IMEI on file for my phone number to an AT&T branded Note 5 (I had an old one on the account and just used that). I then restarted the phone and had to wait about 10 minutes for the HSPA+ to change to 4GLTE signal. MMS now works when connected to wifi as well! Please note that this was achieved using the above mentioned APN settings- using AT&T's guide for NXTGENPHONE still results in NO data or MMS.
So the bottom line when transferring a Verizon S7 Edge to AT&T:
1. Use the above APN settings
2. Call AT&T and change your phone number's IMEI in their system to an LTE capable AT&T branded device (in my case note 5 worked)
3. Reboot and wait about 10 minutes for the signal to register
**DON'T let a representative tell you that HSPA+ and LTE are the same thing.. we're talking 8 Mbps vs 50+ Mbps download and 2 Mbps vs 20+ Mbps upload!
Cheers
***Admin I accidentally posted this in the ROM section; can it be moved to discussion/guides? thanks
Did you by chance even try the U firmware? It should work on any US carrier since its the firmware on the US Unlocked S7E and should have necessary files

Sorry, im confused. I was thinking of following this guide and seeing if it works: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...de-flashing-sm-935u-firmware-verizon-t3415145

you just flash the odin tar then root as usual.. the U firmware is for the US unlcked
I flashed first the 935U firmware and then activated the phone with AT&T, once you insert the sim the phone reboots, changes the APN while it reboots and once it finished all data/talk/text services with AT&T are fully functional. I am guessing Verizon lokcs down the APN features of the 935V firmware so that we stay with verizon.
I'm planning on flashing that rom tomorrow. The issue I have is modifying it for unlimited tethering as I use MetroPCS and pay for unlimited Internet. Fox fi does work but counts against my hotspot data. I tried it with a vpn but I use my hotspot for Netflix and I get an error saying to disable the proxy service or vpn. Wifi tether router connects but I get no Internet. I guess the main issue for me is getting the damn netflix to stream off my hotspot via chrome cast. I'm all ears, open to suggestions and help. Ps. I am currently rooted on Verizon rom. All apps are also paid apps not trying to free load here as I believe hard work should be compensated for. I also would love to have the video calling and wifi calling that I pay for.

My brother actually tried this. I sent him my 935V after I flashed it to the 935U firmware. He had the same problems the OP had where MMS and data won't work unless it's on the HSPA+ APN settings. He's coming to visit soon so I will try going to a store and seeing if they can set it up with a new sim. Or should I just call them and have them switch the imei?
Not sure which route is better here.
I actually just flashed the U firmware and now am right back where I started. Could be that for my region att has a hard time registering it. I'll be calling att this week and will post back my findings. I do like the U firmware better though. Seems cleaner and faster.

I think AT&T just block LTE access for non branded devices. Since you mentioned that it works after you register the sim with your AT&T note 5.
I just did a massive conversion of our squad car laptops for law enforcement at work from VZW to AT&T. The way they provision LTE access is trying the ICCID (SIM Card #) to the IMEID of the devices GOBI modem. All of my rigs came up on HSPA+ and not LTE. Once I sent the ICCID and IMEI of the particular unit to our government rep the mobile came up on LTE. I'd try calling them and saying you need LTE provisioned on your SIM. Provide the ICCID of your SIM, the IMEI of your device and your mobile phone #. Hope this helps.

I tried this with my brother's phone and they said that because it's a non at&t branded device there were limitations on what may or may not work when it comes to data or messaging because they don't guarantee anything as it's not theirs. So he had HSPA+ speeds for a few days until i saw this thread and called again. I gave them the IMEI from a display phone and it worked fine after that.

Thanks, he didn't really care as he's just happy with the phone but I'm glad I got it working as it was intended. By any means necessary.
After flashing the u firmware I called att and was able to get it activated again. Just takes persistence and patience lol.

Glad to hear it worked. I remember when I had a Nexus on AT&T, and I had to call them to have LTE work using a different phones info lol.
Does anyone have any experience with Cricket? I'm thinking about using my S7 Edge on the U firmware with Cricket, but I know they don't have the same level or type of customer service as AT&T. I'm hoping it will "just work", but it sounds like it might not.

Hi Geoff,
Don't know if you're still considering using a Verizon S7 edge on Cricket. I currently have one and it works fine with the network. And I have no issues with calls or MMS via LTE. You only lose connection go Band 17.
