A little help with an adb script. Point in the right direction please. - Other Tools & General Discussion

Edit: I figure out how to accomplish what i was trying to do. So thank you to those that at least read and considered helping. If any one wants to know how post below and i will edit this post to show the updated batch file.
So i work for a guy who's company takes paper menus and puts them on android tablets. When loading said tablets there are at least 2 dozen settings/apps that have to be changed/removed. That being said this is not something I'm getting paid to write or make in the sense i was contracted to do so. This is something i am writing because in any given week i have to load 150+ tablets for whatever restaurant we might be setting up and i needed a way to make this process run a little smoother and to make my life a little easier. I'm new to batch scripting but it has been easy enough to figure and that's not what I'm stuck on. What I'm stuck on is a few commands i am having issues getting to work in adb.
Here is what i have so far: (It's not pretty but it does the job.)
@echo off
adb.exe shell "pm hide com.google.android.play.games;pm hide com.google.android.apps.photos;pm hide com.google.android.youtube;pm hide com.android.documentsui;pm hide com.google.android.keep;pm hide com.google.android.apps.docs;pm hide com.google.android.music;pm hide com.google.android.apps.docs.editors.slides;pm hide com.google.android.apps.docs.editors.docs;pm hide com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox;pm hide com.google.android.gm;pm hide com.google.android.apps.plus;pm hide com.google.android.talk;pm hide com.google.android.apps.maps;pm hide com.google.android.apps.genie.geniewidget;pm hide com.google.android.apps.books;pm hide com.google.android.videos;pm hide com.google.android.apps.magazines;pm hide com.google.android.apps.docs.editors.sheets"
adb.exe shell settings put global guest_user_enabled 0
adb.exe shell settings put system screen_off_timeout 600000
adb.exe install menuvative3.apk
Click to collapse
I still need to, if possible, Change the font settings from large to normal in display settings, Change screen lock to none and enable installation of none market apps with out the tablets being rooted.
For installing non market apps i have been trying to use "settings put secure install_none_market_apps 1" with no luck
The font i have found to be, if I'm correct, "settings put system font_scale ?" the question mark is where I'm stuck
and the screenlock settings i though was "settings put secure lockscreen.disabled 1" but still, no luck.
The tablets are all insignia 10.1" Flex Tablets
My knowledge of how the android os actually functions as a unit is pretty basic.
Everything in the script works great but as for the other three settings, any point in the right direction would greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advanced.

Loccy's BetterBrowser - now in Donut edition (v1.5: 8th Oct 11am/BST)

The important bit - get it here:
Version 1.5 (Donut - also Hero)
Version 1.5 (Cupcake)
I've changed the hosting of these files from 4shite. You shouldn't now have any problems downloading. The new links are hosted at www.androidspin.com - thanks guys!
Optimised version of V1.5 (Donut) (thanks Dwang)
Optimised version of 1.5 (Cupcake) (thanks Hotweiss)
(note ref the optimised versions; Dwang's works fine on my Magic but I haven't tested Hotweiss's. If you have problems try the originals instead.)
MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT VERSION! READ THE CHANGE LOG (in post 2) TO SEE WHAT'S NEW.
Older versions can be found at the bottom of this post.
So what actually is this?
This is a new build of the stock browser, that incorporates the multitouch code from Cyan's build, along with some additional code of my own, primarily intended to make zooming less painful, and looking to gradually move towards an experience as rich as the Hero browser.
What does it do that's new, then?
* option in settings to disable the obnoxious on-screen zoom buttons that usually appear whenever you so much as breathe on the screen (turn off "Visual Zoom Controls" in the menu to get rid of them - off by default).
* when Visual Zoom Controls is disabled, option in settings to add zoom in and zoom out to the menu (although this will bump over options that are normally on the main menu to the "More..." list)
* Double-tap the screen to zoom in. When it gets too ginormous (about four zooms) a subsequent double-tap will zoom all the way out. Or you can just change this in the settings so double-tap always zooms in. Obviously it still has the multitouch option too from Cyan's code.
* Triple-tap to zoom out! (which I am particularly pleased about given that such an event doesn't actually exist in Android )
* Click top-right corner to pull down address bar. Click top-left corner to go back to homepage. Click top-left when on homepage to exit browser (i.e. "clear" it from memory insofar as Android apps ever get cleared from memory).
* Click bottom left to go to previous tab, bottom right to go to next tab.
* Maintain zoom level across a domain, so that when you get a comfortable viewing size, you don't lose it the second you move to the next page on a site.
* Maximum number of tabs increased from 8 to 32.
* As requested by fastludeh22, an option for "Mobile Web Settings". Select from Android, iPhone or Desktop browsing.
* As requested by fit333 (and who was as good as his word, and donated ), an option to lock in landscape mode.
* setting to enable hiding/showing of notification bar. Note that this needs the entire Browser process to be restarted to take effect (so use the top-left click to go home, click again to quit the browser, and then reload to see the effect).
What do I need to run it?
Well, a Cupcake or Donut based rooted Android phone, basically. Make sure you download the correct version. If you are installing on Hero, you might need to wipe all the application data otherwise you'll get force closes.
How do I install it?
The only "safe" way is to push it with ADB. Delete /system/app/Browser.apk and any Browser.odex. Then adb push my browser into /system/app/Browser.apk. Many people had success on Cupcake by just installing via file managers. I managed to upgrade - note, UPGRADE, not install from scratch - by downloading it on my phone from the download link. It'll tell you this is a system application, do you want to update it - say yes. This was on Dwang's Donut ROM. However, the only method I'll "support" is via ADB because it's all so variable. ADB should (in theory) work on any ROM.
I installed your browser and now I can't browse the interweb, my phone exploded, I lost my job and suffered an embarrassing rectal prolapse in a public place. I blame you!
Thank you, please call again. All purchases are final. I would suggest that one uses a program to back up your bookmarks at the very least before installing this.
This is the best thing since self removing trousers! What do I do now?
Send me money by clicking here.
Future improvements I'm hoping to do:
* A proper full screen option (i.e. where you'd also hide the title bar as well as the notification bar, and only show it when pages are loading)
* Hero-style lairy Mac coverflow-esque bookmarks (some way off in the future methinks!)
* tidy up what behind the scenes is, unfortunately, some really kludgey code!
Thanks go to:
* Cyan, obviously, without whom none of this would have been possible, and whose ROMs continue to break new levels of awesomeness
* makethetick, who pointed me in the right direction for the code in the first places
Raspberries go to certain individuals in this thread.
Older versions kept around just in case. THESE ARE ALL CUPCAKE BUILDS. IF YOU INSTALL ON DONUT YOU'LL GET CORRUPTED MENU ICONS.

Loccy's BetterBrowser - new stuff and bug fixes (v1.5: 7th Sep 11:30am/BST)
Changes for 1.5
* Bottom left/right corner click to cycle between tabs (so bottom left goes to previous tab, bottom right goes next)
* Slight change to top bar behaviour, because a couple of people didn't like it and were being put off upgrading. Top left corner to go back to the home page (and then again to quit the browser) is as it used to be. Pulling the address bar down is now top right corner rather than everywhere across the title bar - many people were complaining that they kept doing it accidentally so I've made it a little more "deliberate".
* Removed zoom in/out menu options. They were an early feature before I figured out double/triple tap, were buggy anyway (and non-existent in Cyan's implementation for Donut, even though the menu option was still there!) and I suspect no bugger used them any more.
* Glorious Donutty goodness! (i.e. you don't need to wait for Cyan to incorporate my changes, or suffer dodgy screwed up icons if you install the Cupcake version). I used Cyan's Donut branch as a base. He'd manually pasted in the code from my Cupcake based builds to create this in the first place, a real tedious and laborious process that I now didn't need to do, so many thanks for him for that.
Changes for 1.4.3
* Fix/change for maintain current zoom level across page loads. Now, it only maintains zoom across a domain (so if you're on site xyz.com, and zoom out to a comfortable level there, it'll maintain the sizing across pages on that site. When you go to another site abc.com, that one will start out at zoom level 1. This has the side effect of fixing the column-sizing issue that affected most sites but was most prevalent on mobile sites).
* Slight refinement to the top-corner and top-bar click algorithms. Should work a lot better now for those of you who have the notification bar visible when in the browser.
* Increased maximum number of tabs from 8 to 32. Not sure how this'll hold up, memory-wise - feedback please.
Changes for 1.4.2
* Maintain current zoom level across page loads (so it doesn't suddenly zoom back in whenever you go to another page)
* Fix for top bar clicks (i.e. click title bar to pull down address bar, click top left to go home) when notification bar not hidden.
Release notes/changes for 1.4/1.4.1
* fix to force close on mobile sites when double tap zoom cycle goes back
to the "all the way out" setting (and this time it's DEFINITELY fixed )
* you can now double-tap/triple-tap anywhere on a page to zoom - previously, you'd have had to avoid areas where there were links, otherwise the link would start to load before your zoom would happen.
* setting to change triple tap delay value in advanced settings (so the
lower the setting, the more responsive double-taps are, but the quicker
you have to get your triple-tap in!)
* setting to change double-tap behaviour, between the existing zoom cycle,
and also now just a simple zoom out only setting (so if you want to just
keep it simple, and have double-tap to zoom in, triple tap to zoom out,
the latter will be the setting for you). How many zooms this will result in per cycle will depend on the page you're viewing.
* change to double-tap zoom cycle behaviour - now zooms ALL the way out
to give a true page overview, and also introduces an intermediate step
between page overview and 1:1 zoom (this is a nice level for sites with
big fonts, eg. aintitcool.com)
* click title bar (or top of screen) to bring down the address/search bar
* click top left of screen to go to home page. Click it a second time when on the home page to exit the browser completely (or double-click from elsewhere).
Cool, double tap to zoom in and out would a nice feature to have.
Stupid noob question
I do need to uninstall the old browser apk first? Probably so.
mount and push APK to /system/app
do I need to chmod? and if so what is the number? 775?
Thanks,
Your Guinie Pig!
Chevy
Just flashed 4.0.1 yesterday and am running themeless. Rebooted just to verify and yes I have the same issues. FC on bookmarks and am missing the refresh and forward icons.
Cheers,
Etienne
cover flow
It would be great if u could add the cover flow feature that the hero browser has for bookmarks and Thanks a lot those buttons kept getting in my way to.
intallation
I'm sorry but how do u get it on the rom?
Will this work on JACxROM?
Edit: fixed version hopefully now on the first post.

Yes, I'd uninstall the old browser first.
Install would go something like this, from your command line on your PC:
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app
mv Browser.apk Browser.original
exit
adb push Browser-cyan-pn-mod2.apk /system/app/Browser.apk

Bloody hell. It's taken me a week to get this far
I tried this and it seems to be working fine so far... thanks I really found those buttons annoying too
I think the zoom buttons can be beneficial sometimes instead of multitouch zoom for situations when you are using the phone with one hand. That's when I have use for them. But I guess if the double tap feature from Hero were implemented, this would have the same effect. Good job on the idea tho and keep up the hard work!

Not sure. I believe JACxROM and Cyan's have the same multitouch stuff in their kernels, so I see no reason why it wouldn't, but I might be wrong.
The double tap from hero would be nice good work on this.
Anyway you could post detailed uninstall old and install new instructions? Maybe terminal and adb commands?
You are my new best friend !
Thank you so much. Works perfectly.
Very nice! Always wanted this after using hero's browser.
One question: would it be possible to make the browser full screen (like no status bar)?
Works Great!
This was a really cool idea! I also would like to be able to double tap as well.
One more would be a way to get the screen back to original size without having to go back or open a new page.
I installed completely through terminal.apk
Good Job!
no rush
Thanks for the intallation info. No rush take your time. I know u just posted this not too long ago. Think of it this way though if u could get that cover flow going for the bookmarks that would be a major breakthrough for u cause then the rest of the devs would have to come to u for help. I think Hycuro had it to but with a second home launcher from the hero built. Thanks again.

I mounted /system and rm -r to remove the original Browser.apk and com.android.browser in /data/data.
Then did the following..note that I renamed the apk to Browser.apk:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblk3 /system
cd sdcard
install Browser.apk /system/app/Browser.apk
reboot
Edit: Everything works fine.
Hi,
could you please create an apk file that also includes the Flashplugin? Is that possible yet?

Change Your Screen Resolution on HTC Evo 4g

In this post I'd like to share a small bit of Android information with you. I've discovered it while looking around at the build.prop file and did some research on it, and it turns out to be a pretty cool and powerful feature. Of course, seeing as this requires root you can probably already guess that it involves some more-than-consumer level risk, so anything you do here is your responsibility. This is not a tweak for a fairly novice user. You will need some basic knowledge on command line terminal and how to copy/edit files. I will be assuming you know how to setup and run ADB, and how to execute it and work with it in command prompt.
What's this mod do? Basically it changes your resolution (not really, but for simplicity sake we'll say it does) to a higher pixel density. What this means is everything on your screen will look smaller as if you changed your resolution on your PC to a higher setting. Now obviously we don't want to increase this too much or it will make our screen look bad and be impossible to read things, so I recommend you stick with the settings I have and only tweak it if you're daring.
Now for setup:
1: You require root access for this to work, so make sure you have it prior to doing anything else.
2: Next you will need to get your build.prop file from the /system directory. An easy (and free) way to do this is to use Astro file manager. Open up Astro, navigate to /system/ and copy the build.prop file to the sdcard.
3: Hook the phone up to your PC and enter USB Mass Storage mode. Open the drive on your computer and copy the build.prop file to the desktop.
4: IMPORTANT: make a second copy of this file, and rename it to: build.prop.BAK - accept the change to filetype and leave it alone for now.
5: Open up build.prop using notepad. Once its open you'll see a whole ton of text assuming you have Word Wrap enabled. Press Control + F and type in "density" then press enter.
6: Close out the search menu and find the number "240" to the right of "density"
7: Change the number from 240 to 200. Save the file and close notepad. (Note - higher numbers means bigger text/objects, smaller numbers means smaller text/objects allowing you to fit more on the screen)
8: Put your phone back into PC Mode, and then enable USB Debugging in Settings->Applications->Development
9: At this point I assume you have ADB setup on your PC. Copy and paste the modified build.prop file into the folder with ADB, and then open up a command prompt, change directory to wherever you have ADB installed (ex: cd C:\adb\ ), and type in "adb devices" without the quotes to start ADB and make sure your device is configured properly
10: Now you must push the modified build.prop file to your sdcard. To do so type this in:
adb push build.prop /sdcard/build.prop
11: You should see the text indicating it successfully transferred the file. Now type in "adb shell" without quotes. You should see a $: appear. Once it does, type in "su" and it should change to a #: sign.
12: Now that you're in root access, you must mount /system as read/write to copy over the new build.prop file. To do so type this in exactly as it is, making sure to not skip any spaces or use wrong letters/characters:
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/system /system
You should see the line repeated and that means it went ok. If you get anything else like an error, somethings not right with the text you entered. Go back and double check it.
13: Now we'll copy the file from the sdcard to the system directory to overwrite the old build.prop file:
cp /sdcard/build.prop /system/build.prop
Again, you should see the line repeat below to confirm it copied it successfully. You can now reboot the phone to make the changes happen (note: for a speedy reboot, simply type in "reboot" from the #: prompt, this will drop you out of root shell and do an automatic reboot of your phone pretty neat)
Once your phone is booted back up you should notice some pretty significant changes in appearance. Everything will look smaller much akin to the changes you see on your desktop PC when you increase the resolution from say 800x600 to 1600x1200. In case you want to change it back to the old look, simply re-trace your steps using the original build.prop file, with the pixel density set to 240 instead of 200.
Screenshots for comparison. Note how lines of text are fully exposed in the new screenshots compared to the old ones, where it has to scroll/cut off text in App names etc:

Been using this for a few days now. It works great. They should have released the Evo with the higher resolution from the start.
Looks great in my opinion. I lowered just slightly to 220 and i used RootExplorer to just change the Build.prop file.
Shouldn't this be in general? This is like dpi in windows lol... not resolution

yeah, root explorer is fantastic. it even creates a backup for you after you edit the file.
The interesting part about this is, I made a thread about the density change back when the EVO first launched and nobody cared lol
Just changed to 200 with the aforementioned app, the only problem I have is the main status bar and most of the popup menus and stuff look like crap. Hoping we can find some higher resolution (or whatever) pieces to use. Might be because I'm using Manup's theme.

i noticed that too....so i just went to like 215. 200 was looking good though
ro.sf.LCD_Density=240
Is that the proper value to change in root explorer?
Right below it, there is another value of 160, that's why I ask. I'm on an Evo
Poor resolution has always bugged me. On such a big screen, that number of pixels really isn't enough. This will be a great mod, just don't wanna mess it up.
Thanks.
see there's an easier way to do everything, by that i mean there is an app for that, lol.

The line below it (With the value of 160) has a # in front of it as that is the default value if none specified. Change the 240 to 200 or 220 or 210 or 190 etc depending on your preferences. Again, appelflap has an awesome application to easily do this for you and it provides a boot monitor as well that will check to make sure you can see the screen, and if you can't it will revert back to default setting in case you mess something up. It costs approximately $1 and is well worth it.
On my evo I am using the app and I set mine to 180. Everything looks fine so far. I don't recommend using it with the sense launcher at this level though.

Appreciate all the feedback. When it comes to system tweaks like this, I've always preferred to do them manually. Makes it easier to keep track of changes, and, if you know what's goin on 'behind the scenes'. Even with winmo, I always would opt for tweaking via registry editor, rather than some blind, hands-off tweak app.
Thanks all, though.
Edit: ok, foot in mouth. So I opened root explorer, found build.prop, opened it clicked the mount R/O toggle, but can't seem to edit it no matter what. NVM, found editor
Also, I checked out the app on the market, looked at comments and saw lots of people say that density broke certain apps, and can't get back to normal, broken phones, blah blah blah
Anyone speak to this?
Exposes lame apps
Worked great on rooted EVO running CM6.2.
Need to increase the power of my bifocals now!
Also exposes lame apps that display set screen resolutions, such as WeatherChannel. Poopnoodles!
Very cool find, not one I will be keeping though. The taskbar icons get a bit blurry, and the widget/icon spacing looks ugly.

Just tried that. Was able to make a few changes with no problems. As soon as I tried to go back to the stock settings my phone would no longer boot past the white EVO screen. Doing a restore now
And of course the restore isn't working properly for some reason. Argh.
yeah
Yeah, I read the thread by Appleflap, about his app, and it really sounds like there are a lot of issues from doing this (at this point), some of which cannot be recovered from. And at the very least, there are apps and icons that won't scale properly, and there's no fix for that but to find new ones (from the horses mouth).
Things to be worked out by some real sharp devs.
I'm not totally convinced that this makes things anything beyond just smaller. I've been testing this a various resolutions and am not sure it really adds any new pixels...aren't "pixels" more hardware related? If it were just a software thing wouldn't everyone do it?

Any way to get "swype down" to close apps in android? - + one more Q

Coming from Nokia's N9 myself I realy miss some of the feature of the Meego OS, and was wondering if these are available on android:
Is it possible to get a function to "swype" downwards to close an app ?.
Also is it possible to get a quick "mini menu" where the top status bar is - where one could togle things like blutooth, wifi, etc.
Also how does one "clear" the status messages without having to click everyone of them ?.
Is there also a way to close all apps (I know the Galaxy Tab have this feature - but I guess that is something built into some samsung stuff) ?

My friend looking at your post, it seems like you are not familiar with the term called "rooting" and "custom roms".
Three of the features out of four you've asked are there in custom roms.
The swype down feature.. Looks interesting BUT i am afraid so far we haven't seen it in android yet.

Yea - know there is way to root it - but haven't realy looked into it as this is a company phone, so would like to keep it "clean" - was hoping maybe some launcher/apps would add this functionality.
However I found the nexus actually have a quick mini menu at least Not sure it provide everything I wanted but it's a start
thnx for the reply
Root + Xposed + Gravity will do all except swipe down.

That's the closest thing I know of for swipe down to close apps. It can close apps by swiping from any edge you want, but requires the Xposed framework
Any gesture navigation app will give you the "swype downwards to close an app" ***current app
Just set the gesture
There are a couple of problems with the things you wish to do as far as I can see it:
1) swiping downwards to close an app will cause you some issues in the long run, specifically given that this is how you open the notification panel. From the videos of the N9 that I have seen, the close-app gesture is started from the edge of the screen, not somewhere in the middle? This is exactly how you open the notification panel...
2) It's not as quick as it could be (yet) but there is a mini-menu for toggles in the notification pull-down if you pull down with two fingers, or pull down with one then tap the icon in the top right
3) There should be a little icon looking like three staggered rectangles in the notification pull-down when you have multiple status messages. Tapping this should clear all status messages.
4) Closing all apps on Android is (generally) a bad thing to do. With Meego (and Maemo before it), all open applications are true multi-tasking so will be holding active RAM in use in the background so closing all running apps has a practical use (I used to use an N900). With Android, however, we actually only have a partial hybrid multi-tasking, where only apps with an API call to explicitly stay active will remain fully active in the background (eg. music playback). Everything else is put into a partial suspend state. If you keep fully closing everything, then Android will have to re-open it from ROM rather than RAM which will have a detrimental effect on your battery life. This is heavily paraphrased from an Android development engineer. As for Samsung, this is basically pandering to customer ignorance who still think that anything in the "recents" menu is draining their battery because that's how it works with Windows. To put it very bluntly, Android is better at memory management than you are
Unlike with Meego/Maemo, the entries in the Recents menu are not actually all open and active. As the name suggests, this is only a "history" list of apps you have had open since boot. The lower down this list, the more likely it may still be active, but not guaranteed.
Sorry if any of the above is borderline patronising, but I feel that this sort of Android RAM misinformation needs to be explained whenever I see it! :silly:

That's the closest thing I know of for swipe down to close apps. It can close apps by swiping from any edge you want, but requires the Xposed framework

My friend looking at your post, it seems like you are not familiar with the term called "rooting" and "custom roms".
Three of the features out of four you've asked are there in custom roms.
The swype down feature.. Looks interesting BUT i am afraid so far we haven't seen it in android yet.

Swipe down to close app is there in Xposed using swipe back module.
You can read that Swipe back has a feature to change thje swipe edge , top to bottom or vice versa

Thanks for the clarification appreciated
Yea the N9's screen is part of the swype system (the screen sides are curved), as it differs from swyping from the edge of the screen or within - it's the same from the sides, one can either swype from edge of the screen - flipping thru the apps that is open - or one can swype from just inside the edge to scroll thru f.ex images in an image viewer - the N9 also have a "notification" bar - or atleast a "top" bar, but that's activated only by a touch of the top line (where it shows status) - instead of dragging it down.

Clearly based on other responses there is an Xposed module that allows you to close and app with a downwards swipe, so my response may not therefore be the whole truth
With some sort of selectable "active area" of the Xposed swipe you might be able to get the best of both worlds; i.e. swipe from top left downwards to close current program, or top middle and top right to open notifications? (or any combination thereof of course!)

[STOCK] [8.1] Disable Statusbar padding after the 8.1 update.

Hi all,
This works with all devices on 8.1 without round corners. Oreo 8.1 by default has statusbar padding enabled for devices with round corners, but this device among a few others doesn't have round corners and the padding seems like a waste of space to me (and a few other users too)
A simple ADB shell command fixes it and removes the padding.
Requirements:
- Mi A1 or any near stock Android device
- Should be on 8.1
- A brain and should be able to read and follow the written instructions.
- Platform Tools along with ADB drivers
Steps:
- Assuming it's your first day at XDA, enable Developer Options in Settings by opening Settings > System > About device and tap the Build Number 7 times. You'll be promoted to enter your lockscreen password, do so.
- You'll see a new sub menu, Settings > System > Developer Options.
Tap and scroll down to USB Debugging and enable it.
- Connect your phone to your PC. Download the latest Platform Tools and run the ADB.exe file.
- Hover over an empty space in the Platform Tools folder, Hold Shift + Right Click > Open Command/PowerShell window here.
- Run <adb devices> and it will pop up a dialogue on your phone screen asking for access to your phone. Grant the permission.
- Run the above command again, and you'll see an alpha numerical code (will be different to each user)
- Run <adb shell settings put secure sysui_rounded_content_padding 0>
- Voila!
Works on:
Mi A1 (tested personally by me)
Pixel
Pixel XL
Pixel 2
Will update this list frequenty. Suggestions on how to improve this thread are always welcome.
Did not worked for me
ADB seems to accept the command, but the padding is always there
This setting doesn't seem to be available on Mi A1 by default.
Before trying I wanted to take a note of stock value, but:
command: adb shell settings get secure sysui_rounded_content_padding
response: "none", but it should be some number instead

Weird, there is padding present in the stock 8.1 build. Another user confirmed that this worked for them. This is specifically for stock ROMs, most custom ROMs have the padding disabled by default.
works like a charm voilaaaaa
when i enter the adb shell settings put secure sysui_rounded_content_padding 0 line in PowerShell nothing happens, so i can say it does'nt work for me at least.
---
Edit:
But when i change the 0 to 0.1 or 0.5, it says: System UI has stopped, and AGAIN nothing happens.
it works for me, thanks!
It worked for me too. Thanks.
Sent from my Mi A1 using Tapatalk
worked nicely thanks! this bugged me quite a bit
I really like the added padding but for the testing I tried it and it works perfectly (on A1 and Pixel 2)...
Is there a space between "secure" and "sysui"?
Worked for me, thanks!
I found out as well that you can put negative values to save even a bit more space, although did not test extensively to make sure it doesn't get buggy at some stage.
settings put secure sysui_rounded_content_padding -8 seemed to be the max to me, but I have tweaked DPI and font size, so not sure what works for who
I'll stick with the 0 though, don't want to take risk to have to change it every 5 minutes...

Well, I tried it and it wasn't working except in Spotify app. I wonder why.
Thanks for the tutorial mate. I really hate this padding then you solved this! Working perfectly.
Does this works to enable padding in 8.1 pixel experience rom in any device?
I think round corners is removed in July patch.

Your DPI makes it seem so, but it isn't. I'm on the latest July Stock ROM and padding is present.

Should work in theory, you'll need to change the input value though

Is there *ANY* A11/A12 way to hide/free the status bar space?

Hi,
I got a used OnePlus 7T Pro, because it was a better choice for me in many ways than new phones. I just absolutely love the screen.
But I was trying to find out, how to make actually everything fully use it. Afaik there used to be a way on A10, that is no longer working.
So I searched the whole week how to hide the status bar, and in the end decided to even root and try various Magisk modules, or EdXposed/GravityBox stuff, pretty much anything I could find because many people reported "status bar height = 0" to do the job. But it really doesn't.
It allows to hide the *contents* of the status bar, BUT the space there is still covered by an ugly bar that apps (browser, whatsapp, anything) aren't drawing over. And that looks even worse than having clock+battery present honestly :'(
So I am desperately trying to search for ANY way to accomplish a fullscreen experience. Does anyone know of one?
I actually like the stock OxygenOS personally. But at this point, I'm willing to hop on any good quality custom rom that would allow it.
(I am even considering somehow downgrading to A10, but would absolutely prefer not to).
I can't believe people here aren't all over this / that everyone with 7/7T pro didn't already do everything in their power to accomplish a full system-wide fullscreen experience. So, desperately pleading anyone, is there some Rom/Mod/Module allowing this?
Thanks
Oh, one additional thing: I noticed, that when changing the option under
Settings -> Developer -> Display Cutout
The status bar (and the reserved space around it) actually does change and move up/down for various options. The "Waterfall Cutout" makes the bar significantly narrower, and apps are properly respecting it (= being drawn a bit higher) too. Which gives me some hope.
There is an installable Magisk module called "None Display Cutout" from here:
[Remove display cutout][ROOT] Full screen 21:9 for apps in landscape, incl Netflix.
Requirements: Magisk root. Download and install the "None Display Cutout" in the Magisk managers module repo. It will add an option in developer settings display cutout options, "No Display Cutout". Choose it, and apps, including netflix, will...

These just don't try to accomplish complete status bar disappearance, but they touch on the "Display Cutout" settings in some way. So they *could... maybe* be modified to make the status bar completely disappear? Since they alter the overall display bounds even on Android 11 successfully.
Honestly, those 2 are the most promising directions I stumbled upon, but I personally don't know how to modify them to do what I want (= shrink the whole status bar area to 0 pretty much)
/// I reposted this to OnePlus 7T Pro (I am sorry I originally did not notice 7Pro and 7TPro have different categories), here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ay-to-hide-free-the-status-bar-space.4395539/
But if allowed, I'd rather have the thread left visible even here in "7 Pro", since I believe the solution would work on both and usually the semi-solutions I stumbled upon were from "7 Pro" devices too.
