skinny rom compatability - LG G Stylo Questions & Answers

I've been on mm 6.0 and back to 5.1 .
I restored a twrp 5.1 recovery directly back from 6.0 using twrp . My boot loader
Is unlocked and I've used my own rooting
Method and flashifyed my twrp on both lp and mm. Since i'm on 5.1j with my bootloader still unlocked indicated on my
Splash screen can i safely flash the skinny rom on my metro g stylo with out a boot loop or a soft brick

Why did you go back to 5.1 if you wanted to flash the Skinny ROM?
I am going to try this Skinny debloated ROM soon. I have rooted T-Mobile Marshmallow on my MetroPCS Stylo and am missing some features that didn't flash correctly on my T-Mobile marshmallow.

I am always building stuff. I was working on a complete one click unlock Bl, Root and twrp and then another mm Rom build or two.
I always go back to my own builds cause I personalize them just for me but ran across the skinny while surfing and it caught my attention. I've been around for years and been doing this as a hobby since i retired and keeping myself busy.

Makes sense now.
Let me know how it goes when you (if) flash that Skinny debloated MM ROM.
I am curious if it works and if all the features like advanced text msgng and video calling and all the MM stuff is on it.

This rom works great so far. With the metro update and this it shouldn't take much to get both versons 6.0 mm. Sure would get custom roms going.
Thanks for your enlightenment.

Skinny Rom works great. The new MS63120B_00_0429.KDZ IS OUT. My Metropcs version phone can be set back to stock and I was wondering If using the new LG UP flasher will care that My Bootloader is UnLocked. I don"t know if it will Interfer and check its status.

thats a good question...i sure hope it doesnt matter to that tool that the bootloader is unlocked...if for some reason it did, maybe you could use lg flash tool 2014 and flash the lollipop kdz?

I went from t--mo mm to metro Loli..to get the metro mm...
I noticed that the bootloader was still unlocked after the Loli flash and kinda got concerned...
But, it never caused any probs...updated to mm metro and rooted smoothly....
I was kinda wondering if i could just wipe and flash skinny without extra caution and precautions...and then if i thought it was ( in my own opinion I'm entitled to) kinda not what i want..flash my mm metro back up...
Doesn't seem like it's been done..i could be wrong..
The drive to dev for this phone isn't as strong as i was hoping...
But, being the first android I've kept vanilla rooted with few tricks...it's not disappointing.

@Cyconumnum
Does the splashscreen still show
" unlocked bootloader "
And did you take the ota or
Flashed metro mm with lg up or the 2014 tool

I don't know what was debloated. The "Skinny" ROM itself is fine but what was taken out?

I used the flash tool to flash metro lollipop..
After that I went into fastboot to unlock the bootloader ...and it reported to be already unlocked...
It still showed "bootloader unlocked" at the top of the LG splash on the initial metro lollipop boot...
And reported it again booting the metro mm update

Sorry..the LG flash tool

I'm back on my personal juicy lp. I gotta get some new fast sd cards. I am working on another twrp for a friend in my spare time and have to hold up on roms and the total one click project. I would like to do the kdz 6.0 but i need parts .

Update; Found 16gb class 10 and worked skinny Rom, metro ota, and lg up flash tool. They both, metro ota and Lg Flash Kdz never showed skinny rom id'd. It said unknown device firmware. So bye bye skinny Rom. They both left the bootloader unlocked when finished flashing metro updates. As i stated before adb pkg and SuperSu needed updating and reinstalling for root and recovery was required. Splash screen still indicated an unlocked bootloader and loading the kdz from 5.0 kept data partition and required all out of date apps to be updated. Namely goggle playservices, adaway 311 needed (thanks guys) and xposed modules i uninstalled till I get time. Advance messageing was an Lg update not inclued in metro updates. Plenty of bloatware to lighten the load but still seemed less than skinnys bloatware. Good to be back on metro software and all the advance messaging and video calls worked. Now i DO gotta get more new sd's. Really out of parts to work with . Going to best buy to hold me over..
CHEERS ALL hope it helps you guys.
Edit; Forgot to add "Quickboot.apk" works 100% take you into all available modes.

i'm actually really content with it being on a stock rooted with various mods.....wish i could get the soft buttons to theme..that's nothing bad thou lol..
MM is a nice environment ..i wish i could install themes from cm13 .....but, as much i do ..i'm not gonna brick my phone with themes...did it before just changing the font on my F6...ha
but, it's great....makes enough sense....
my guess about the bootloader not getting changed with the ROM would be a bios type thing...i'm not toooo android savy..

I like the Stock ROM. There are several options for themes.
Layers in the Play Store
G4 Tweaksbox (requires root)
LG Apps Theme Engine (requires root)
LG SmartWorld (no root required but only available on Marshmallow T-Mobile Stylo ROM)

ok ill explain the best i can for you.
Lets say for example that the bootloader was unlocked for the flex 2, if we downgraded with the current method that I did, then youll end up with a brick BECAUSE...after the 5.1.1 update, the bootloader was also updated, but if we had an unlocked bootloader, it would be no problem because then you can get right into fastboot since the bootloader is unlocked. however the reason my flex 2 bricked was because you cant downgrade bootloaders unless there is a specific way to do so, and if its unlocked...well since mine wasnt on the flex 2, when i flashed the TOT from ZV5 OVER a ZV6 bootloader, the rest of the partitions flashed, except for the bootloader end of it because it returned a "Version on phone is currently newer than the one being flashed" and declined the flash, since ZV5 wasnt build around the ZV6 bootloader, it doesnt know how or what to boot..
thats just a simple version, going into specifics is the Devs department, but in lamen terms, thats whats going on..if we had an unlocked bootloader it wouldnt be an issue because we could flash an older bootloader without the phone rejecting it. but once root is achieved on 5.1.1 then there will be a way to restore the FLex 2, the G3 you have although it may not have an unlocked bootloader, its been out for long enough to where exploits have been discovered, but if youre referring to upgrading and downgrading on Custom Roms, thats not the same thing, its only for official TOT's and KDZs or Official LG Firmware.
it would be like trying to flash a sprint variant with a tmobile rom....its just not built for it, its like having a Ford mustang with a V6 and trying to put a V8 motor in it without changing the computer/wire harness etc. it will fit...but it just wont work.
did that help for you to understand?

Ya i understand that part... Ive dealt with bricked phones... Ive recovered all but one.... Why are some able to downgrade though... In another thread soomeones says hes gone back aand forth a couplw times... Thats why i was confused..
So there's no way to root the Sprint lg g flex 2 (ls996) once it's on 5.1.1? Because we can't downgrade right? Wish I knew this before I bought one off Swappa.

Yeah I don't regret buying the g flex 2 considering I got it for $260 on Swappa. Really happy I got top of the line hardware for this price. I'm sure root will come or maybe a way to unlock bootloader so we can downgrade.

Moto G LTE XT1045 updated to Lollipop rolled back to Kitkat

Okay, so I recently bought a used Moto G LTE, seller said it would be on Lollipop 5.1. When I received it, it had been rolled back to 4.4.4. Hence the screen ripple at every boot up (which persists until the phone is locked and then unlocked) that almost gave me a heart attack the first time. A little googling later I learn this happens because while you can downgrade android the upgraded version's bootloader remains. So last night I finally got around to rooting since I just can't go from a rooted phone to living with a non rooted one, feels like my phone has a noose around it. Anyway I wanted to know if it's safe to flash CM on my phone now or should I reupgrade to 5.1 first? And if I should is there a way to get it to update OTA again? If not any suggestions where to find the firmware? I just want to feel free to flash roms without bricking my phone. Here is a screenshot of my About Phone, in case someone needs it to help, imgur.com /v8iLOU7

Hi.
In my xt1040, i can flash CM 12 lollipop or a stock rom based from kitkat 4.4.4 without problems (I have a updated bootloader), to get OTA updates again, its necessary flash the stock rom (KK or LP), without root, PURE stock (with all "bloatware").
Now im using a optimized rom from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/4g-development/rom-stock-motorola-4g-lollipop-rom-t3142816
No bugs, amazing battery life, and a pure stock, no "bloatware", great ram management.
Sorry for bad english.

Android 6.0 for Metro PCS Variant?

Hey there. Do you all think that the Metro Variant of the G Stylo will receive the Marshmallow Update, now that the T-Mobile variant should be getting the update? Any thoughts? I checked the LG Open Source page and there's no sign of marshmallow for the T-Mobile variant or the Metro PCS variant, so thats also got me scratching my head a bit. Any thoughts?
I know is weird i have the t-mobile version and didnt get the update yet i double check via lg bridge on pc and it said my phone is update but im still on 5.1.1 lollipop. And some ppl on threads said they have been updated but no kdz files uploaded this is cracking me up.
6.0 update
I have spoken with metro tech support and they have repeatedly told me that they are waiting for T mobile to release the metro varient firmware they have said we r going to get it

Pretty simple just follow these steps from DrakenFX return2stock
Instead grabbing files for MetroPCS you grab the T-Mobile one.

I tried this last night, it did install the tmobile firmware without a problem, and it also installed a 146 meg update, but thats all it gave me, did not detect or install MM, i tried LG Bridge and what it did was detect my phone as a Metropcs version and wanted to download and install the metro Firmware.
Maybe i did something wrong who knows, lol..
keep me updated..

So let me get this straight. I have to Root my phone, via whatever method works, and then follow the instructions on that link to flash tmobile stock rom, then grab the OTA?
Cant I root and then use a program like....idk titanium back up or Rom Toolbox to flash that rom?

You can't take an OTA if your phone is already rooted. If you had not rooted, you would have had a working MM on your phone and THEN you can root after.

I downloaded an update.zip from the tmobile marshmallow update, transferred it to data/fota and ran the software installer but nothing shows up. keeps reading my system is up to date (Im using a metropcs device like you & running a tmobile stock rom as well.)

how to find unlock code on sprint lgls996 flex 2

Hi,
I bought LG G flex 2 (sprint) pin packed. When i opened the box it was unlocked and i could use any sim i want. I reset my phone plenty of times but it didnt asked me amy activation code. It is currently operation on zv6 version software. I want to know how i can find out the activation code on my phone? Is there anyway? Because i am thinking to upgrade it to zv9.
If your phone is unlocked, meaning it can be used with any carrier with their SIM cards and it's never complaining or not working (never saying "Invalid SIM" and everything works, calls, SMS/MMS, etc) then you can do pretty much whatever you want in terms of upgrading to ZV9 (just remember once you do that you can't go back to ZV6 of course but why would you).
Upgrading to a newer build of the OS won't affect the unlocked status - the upgrade doesn't muck with the carrier folder on the device so, if it's truly unlocked presently it'll still be unlocked after the upgrade.

Thanks for you advice but now i have another issue. When the software is installing it gives an error and stops the update. That means some files are missing and if i flash the software then i am toast.
Can't help much there, you haven't provided enough actual information to work with. For me and this Flex 2 I got a few days ago, I had issues myself: it was on ZV5 unrooted so I took all the OTAs for ZV6, ZV7, ZV8, and then ZV9 and it was working fine, then I decided (instead of doing the actual root process itself) to flash the ZV9 rooted system image and that broke things somehow. I restored ZV8 from the TOT file, still had problems, did it again, still problems, then I finally said what the hell and flashed the ZV9 stock image on ZV8 and it worked for some reason. So then I flashed the rooted ZV9 system image and voila, now everything works as it should.
Would still like to get that ZV9 TOT at some point but if someone is out there trying to charge people $30 for it, that's a bit stupid in my opinion.
Anyway, my Flex 2 is now running great with ZV9 rooted with Xposed and the one module I use and I have no intentions of altering it again till I can figure out how to get it working with T-Mobile 100% (the current unlocking procedures are not working for me in my situation).

So what do you suggest should i stay with my current version and wait for developers to build something cool?
You could build something yourself I suppose, I'm happy with my Flex 2 at this point (still need to replace the glass/digitizer but that's a given).

I am happy too but i just want to upgrade it.

Downgrading my (unrooted) carrier locked At&t Note 8.

My note 8 had OneUI pushed to it about a week ago even though I kept refusing not wanting to while I was sleeping. It says my bootloader is v5. This is actually what it says (N950USQU5DSD3). My problem is that when I search for the firmware I'm wanting to downgrade to (the last oreo update possible for this particular phone) on Sammobile I can't find the one for At&t. I see ones for Verizon, sprint, etc. But nothing for at&t, which one am I supposed to use and where can I get it? This is going to be my very first downgrade/upgrade, really my first time doing anything like it on android. And I CAN do this right? There's nothing I should be aware of that makes what I'm trying to do not able to be done is there? The biggest reason I'm asking is because I have very limited tools to work with, I have a little 12" Acer aspire one (no disk drive) running windows 7 home basic, mobile hotspot from my wife's phone(the last software I tried to download and use came from xda out of a thread I found titled, "Stock Oreo N950USQS5CRF6 Odin*files*for AT&T*NOTE*8" it failed halfway through 2 nights ago during the beginning of storm, and the whole time it would only download around 32kbs so it literally to FOREVER! Only for it to fail halfway through. Was I wasting my time or was this in fact the firmware I'm looking for? If not, as I asked before, where could I find it?? Thanks a bunch for any help.

^^^^^^^Is this all I need? Do I need to follow this tutorial or a different one?? What version of odin, do I need anything else
Sorry for so much all at once, I really hate this update and want Oreo back.

Follow the steps from the above-linked post, and follow them very carefully. I did, and I was able to successfully downgrade from Pie to Oreo on my AT&T NOTE8.
I actually flashed the unlocked firmware, which has zero AT&T bloat. It works just fine for my needs. I don't think AT&T WiFi calling works on this unlocked firmware (I haven't tried - I don't use it).
Caveat emptor: whichever version of Oreo you choose (either the AT&T stock, or the unlocked firmware), we are stuck on the February 2019 Android security patch.
Only Pie gets the latest security patches. As long as you are ok with this, then proceed with the downgrade to Oreo!

A little off topic, but has anyone seen an AT&T security update for May yet? I'm still on April security, and it's basically mid June?
Tha k you I'll check it out when I get off work, I didn't know you could flash the unlocked firmware on a carrier locked phone
Let me get this straight. Can a locked bootloader AT&T SM-N9500U on Android 9, N9500USQU5DSD3 downgrade to Oreo? I thought this bootloader whould not let you go back.
I LOATH Pie and wan to go back to Oreo so bad, please tell me there is a for sure way. This is my first permanently locked bootloader phone and it's killing me not to flash an software I prefer.
I dont know I wish someone could tell me forsure whether it will work or not because now my phone is getting another software update notification so it's getting ready to force another update on me and I doubt after that I will still have bootloader v5. Can someone please verify whether my current bootloader (N9500USQU5DSD3) will downgrade successfully to back to oreo or not? I have the oreo firmware I want to use downloaded and ready to go which is (SM-N950USQU5CRL1). Can I downgrade to this without messing anything up?? Please I need a fast reply I dont want this new update forced to my phone and updating my bootloader to v5 where I can ever go back to oreo.

Yes you CAN downgrade back to Oreo. BUT you MUST go to a bootloader 5 firmware.

Yes you can go to that firmware. You will want to back up and allow it to factory reset. Be sure to use the modified version of Odin. Go HERE, post #2
