My lock button started getting flimsy for a few days after I got my phone. First it would get every other button press and then it stopped working all together. Then the fingerprint sensor went out on it.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Now the phone battery died and it won't power on.

Well I think i found a way to get it to boot!
1 Press and hold power button.
3 Remove battery.
2 Slap that battery back in and boom the phone boots!
My finger print sensor has been inconsistent

Hi I have a problem with my Desire S. Recently got update now I when I receive a text or call when it next sleeps it will not wake when I press the power button.
If I pull the battery out it reboots fine and if I plug in the power cable it wakes up but not from the power button and its not exactly easy to just quickly slip the battery out of this thing.
I've done a hard reset (volume power button thing) but the problems still there has anyone any ideas for a fix.
Wondering about how to go back to last version is it possible?
You should be aware that it's extremely risky removing the battery from a running phone, there is a real chance that you'll damage the phone permanently
Sounds like your power button could be damaged, some roms enable the phone to be woodmen up using volume button, the one I'm on, see sig

This problem occurs frequently endymion 3.4 after call or even if the call was not successful. It seems the problem is with proximity sensor. When I swipe my finger over sensor or show light over sensor area it wakes up but not always.I do not face this problem with other aosp ROM.
Left field, do you gave a screen protector? This can effect they proximity sensor

A friend of mine had this problem. Turns out the proximity sensor was broken

its half way down.. i can lightly touch the power button and it will turn the screen on/off.. really becoming frustrating. id like to fix this on my own. any one been through this and have a fix? if i send it back through insurance, will it be completely covered? thank you.
Sounds like the tab the battery button connects to is either broke or simply undone itself. Taking the phone apart is the only way to find out.

Dear xda community,
Since I received my Nexus 5 more than a week ago I am experiencing something which keeps me thinking.
Sometimes when I want to pick up my phone to check something, the screen will wake up without me touching any buttons. Is this supposed to happen?
What's happening quite often because of that is: I want to pick up my phone -> grabbing it -> screen awakes -> but since I am pushing the power button myself half a second later -> screen turns dark again. This is a little annoying from time to time...
I tried to recreate this incident but it just happens every ~30th time. While doing this I keep attention not to hit a button accidentally.
Any Ideas whats going on? Bug or feature? Are you experiencing something similar?
Thank you and best regards!
Same thing happening with my Nexus 5. Screen opens on picking it up. It happens on randomly.
I cannot see any pattern though.
Could be a faulty power button switch? Making a connection under the movement?

It will wake up if the surface you put it on has a magnet in or near it. It's the hall effect sensor that does this, used for a cases that wake up the device when opened

Are you using a Custom rom?

There are some custom ROM/Kernel combo's which give the option to wake the phone by double tapping the screen. However this isn't present in stock. As some have already said the phone will wake if placed near a magnet, if I put my N5 on top my iPad it wakes when I pick it up. If none of these apply its probably faulty.
Few weeks ago I sent my N5 to warranty due to broken power button. They changed out the motherboard. When powering on, I didn't feel the vibration and keyboard vibration for example didn't work either, but since it came back to me with 5.0.1 on it, I thought it's some kind of a bug. Today I flashed 5.1.1 and vibration worked fine during initial WiFi password typing, but when I got to the Google account password, it didn't work already. I reboot the N5 later and still doesn't work. Is it safe to say I got a broken motherboard from the warranty?

Probably just poor contact on the vibration motor.
Maybe the contact is indeed poor. Did you try to clear the cache & Dalvik cache ?
I've taken the back cover off before. When you put it back on you have to sort of pinch the middle of the phone to get the last clip to connect, otherwise wireless charging doesn't work. Maybe that also affects the vibrator? If you pinch the middle of the phone about where the "S" in "Nexus" is located does it seem like the back cover is connected sufficiently? If it isn't you will hear it snap into place when you pinch it. You'd know if your wireless charging doesn't work properly.
i had this problem when i changed my battery. A good smack on the back got it working again
Woow, the story got even more weird now. Vibration just worked fine during a notification.
E: A good smack on the back helped.

I had an HTC M8 and the vibration randomly stopped working for a good 6 months (unrelated to a warranty repair, just randomly). It then started working again and hasn't had an issue since. Those vibration motors are finicky, apparently.
Hey guys. My other half has the S6 as do I and about a month after having it she dropped it on the kitchen floor and if I remember right the home button stopped working and a day later it was working fine again.
About a month after she got water on/in her phone I don't remember how this happened but the power button and home button stopped working BUT I could hold power and volume up/down and that would work to get the phone restarted which is odd as power button wouldn't work any other way. Anyway I did that twice and the power button was working fine again but home button was still dead. She left the phone under her pillow overnight as she does every night and the home button worked again.
Around a month or so later and she drops the bloody thing in the toilet! Fished it out rapidly and power button worked but home button didn't but the screen kept going on and off. I put it in rice for a day and the home button worked and so did power button BUT a day later the home button died. A month after this the power button works but then doesn't work for hours at a time and then works again for hours at a time.
My question is, is there anything I can do/try to get these buttons working fine again? I'm guessing not but its always nice to make sure. Every other aspect of the phone is perfect still.
Thanks in advance

Lol I'd say buy your Mrs a waterproof case
After a while, the water damages more components from my past so I'd get the phone fixed by Samsung if KNOX isn't tripped

Yeah her phone today started randomly popping up Google now just after the power button stopped working again lol. Surely Samsung would charge an extortionate price?

I wouldn't know haha, all I know is that Samsung offer 2 year warranty. Hopefully they would replace the device for you for a reduced price (maybe £200) like Apple do.
In the states, water damage is usually considered BER (Beyond Economic Repair)
