handcent?

is anyone using HANDCENT SMS over the STOCK SMS application that comes with SENSE and ANDROID on the EVO? I am testing it out and its pretty cool! is there any reason not to use it? does it drain battery???
Been using Handcent for months now over the stock messenger & it's a go
Swyped by Gator_don & his Evo
I prefer handscent over stock app any day. Best part for me is that it pops up messages over the lock screen and lets you reply with out unlocking the phone.
I've been using Handcent since the Hero came out and had that massive battery drain issue with the stock message system that kept the cpu at 100% without letting it sleep...the first thing I downloaded when I got my EVO was Handcent! I love it!
I've always used and loved Handcent.
I used for a while with hero then evo, dropped it a month ago and get better battery lifr since, its a great program but in my evo it drains more battery than stock and I guess I just got used to stock again. miui messenger rocks too
Handcent since day one.
I've been using Handcent since the day after I got my Evo. I've tried others, like ChompSMS, but I keep coming back to Handcent.
handcent all day errryyy dayyy
Google Voice
The only draw back on handcent there is no way to use your google voice number with it.
But I love it.

Well said.
Well, I installed it and used it for a day and then could not figure out which combination of settings would keep the stock messaging app from popping up notifications in addition to the handcent notifications. clearing all the text notifications from not one but TWO apps got on my nerves in a hurry.
Simply disable notifications in Messages and you only have Handcent's popping up.
Is anyone else experiencing any lag with handcent?? Takes forever for the message to pop up on the screen n takes even longer for it to notify me once the message does pop up. The last few updates seem to have messed it up. Ive tried to uninstall n reinstalled but that hasnt worked. N on top of that, the stock messaging app doesnt work at all. I will never get any texts and sent texts will not go thro. So im stuck with handcent i guess for now.

You have to keep the messaging app, if you delete it/uninstall it, it will cause handcent to have those issues.

Correct but there is not way of using the google voice with any other messaging app. Only the google voice app itself. It would be great if you can integrate it with your messaging app and only need to use one. That would be sweeeeeeeet.

You simply open the stock app and go in to settings. From settings turn off all notifications. This stops the stock app from popping up and having 2 different apps telling you about your messages.

[Q] I feel like such a noob but, can Gmail notifications not be disabled anymore?

So I flashed Cyanogen Mod and I hated it. Unfortunately I forgot to do a backup of my stock rooted rom. So i flashed a clean install of the latest stock rooted rom. Now gmail notifications are driving me nuts. I remember that you were able to disable them before by simply going into settings within the Gmail app. Now this option is gone. I feel like such a noob.
I might as well through this question out as well. How on earth can I set handcent as my default texting app? Again, before flashing the new rom, this was also in the settings menu for the app but now I can't seem to find it and whenever I get a text I get two notifications. One from the stock texting app and another from handcent.
With hancent installed you have to disable notifications in the stock messaging app.

Stock Messaging App Issue

I am running Rooted Stock. Everytime I restart my phone the Stock Messaging App pops up a notification at boot. It says that I have 5300 messages.
When I open it, I see a bunch of threads even though I have deleted them in my other Messaging app. When I try to delete them in the Stock Messaging App it freezes and then force closes. If I open the Stock Messaging App from the app menu there are no threads and when I go into the settings to turn off notifications, the Stock Messaging App freezes and force closes. I have tried going into the app manager and clearing cache and clearing data with no change .
Outside of this I have no problems and I just cant seem to figure this out. I am trying to avoid wiping the phone for what seems like a simple issue. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Permissions and default apps issues.

This device acts very, very odd. It seems that whenever an app is installed from the play store, its default move is to block every permission that app may have. It doesn't even prompt. So I have to go in to the permission manager every time I install a new app and "trust" it. Is there any way to just disable this permission software and go back to the way aosp marshmallow asks for permissions upon installing apps?
Also, I keep setting my default mms app to Google messenger, and literally every reboot it reverts back to the stock messages app.
Lastly, is there any way to have the hold home and swipe up function changed back to context search instead of this Chinese search app that is useless to my non Chinese speaking self?
Im sure ill have more to ask soon. Very odd acting phone indeed.
Have similar issues myself with this, even though I have driven apps permission they don't always work especially emails when the screen is off. I have been over and over the settings but just can't seem to get it fully right

CM12 Messaging app...

I've flashed it in recovery, tried installing just the apk, actually got it to work for about 3 hours and one point then after that continual unfortunately, messaging has stopped responding crashes. Anyone know of a work around for this or a port for the cm12 messaging app to work on CM13?
Disable your messaging app and install this. Its a an excellent messaging app. You can check if it satisfies you.

Or just use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.messaging
So I found it works until you set it as
Default then force closes. Without it, I can view messages and everything once it's set to default is when you can't open it anymore.
