Whatsapp Voice Calls Too Loud!!! - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hey All,
I have a problem with Whatsapp voice calls, the volume of the conversation on the earpiece is too loud even on the lowest setting, I have to put the phone away from my ear in order to hear.
This is only on Whatsapp Calls. In regular phone calls and Viber calls it is normal and I can lower the earpiece volume normally.
Anything I can do to fix this? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling a different version of Whatsapp but it didn't fix the problem.
Any app that can lower the volume even more?
Thank you kindly in advance.

I think it's not a Whatsapp problem. I just noticed that Viber calls are also loud!! It seems that's a problem affecting data calls only.
If i restart my phone the problem goes away for a few minutes and then comes back.
Very frustrating...

mine does the same. I don't use viber, but whatsapp sure is loud. I actually noticed call volume doesn't affect whatsapp call actual volume. As you say it's too loud at the minimum, but it's exactly the same even at the max. It's like it's stuck at max volume, and lowering call volume in the phone doesn't actually affect real whatsapp call volume. is this your case too?

The volume in Whatsapp might be based on 'Media' volume setting instead of call volume setting -- of course, this would be a bug as well. Try reducing the Media volume level before or during a call and see if that helps. Settings -> Sounds and vibration -> Volume -> Media. Hope it resolves your issue.

That was my first thought too, unfortunately none of the volumes have effect on the whatsapp call volume..

Yes it's exactly the same thing. I also tried lowering all the volumes like media and call and ringtones... i even performed a restore to factory settings to no avail. Very annoying!

you can change that in settings

Change what in settings?
We mentioned that we tried lowering all the volumes from the settings. Is there any other setting to change?
Furthermore i noticed that sometimes if i make the Whatsapp call, there is no problem. But if i receive the call and answer it, the volume will be stuck on loud.
Please someone help.
Thank you.

I'm having this problem too. Extremely frustrating and I'm considering returning the handset and getting something non-Samsung because of it.

PS I have contacted WhatsApp customer support and they don't seem to be able to help - it appears to be a Samsung bug.

What can we do? Wait for a software update from Samsung?

no hints?

Well it seems that the recent Samsung Firmware update released this week around 300MB solved the issue, fingers crossed.
I'll keep testing though... and will report back.

Same issue here but with S4 and this thing started with lolipop update and persists.

Have you tried resetting it to factory settings after the update?

Tried two different roms and it was a clean install every time, I'm not using ota. This is a problem with lolipop TW roms on S4 and seems lke S7. Maybe android 6 fixing this bug? I can't try cause there are no 6 for s4.

I have a LG v30 and same problem .. cannot change call volume no matter what

same issue on my kenzo using custom rom

Hello, It was a firmware issue which was fixed in Stock ROM's, it won't be fixed in custom ROM's. You need to buy a pair of headphones with inline volume control.

No sound on incoming calls

I've had my Touch Cruise for a while now with no problems but in the last week or so I am no longer getting any ringtone sound for incoming tools.
Vibrate is fine but no sound is there, in the settings menu you can preview the ringtones without any problems but they just won't sound during a call.
Am I heading towards a hard reset/ROM flash or is there a quick fix ?
I had the exact same issue. Hard reset did the trick.
I own the device for a week now and did a lot of funstuff and installed a lot of applications, probably some 3rd party app caused this problem....
I had the exact same issue. SPB backup/restore did the trick.
Fantastic !.
Thanks for that guys, did a hard reset and all was well again.
Tried a backup & restore first but I think some rogue software was to blame as the problem persisted...
Now all is fixed. Cheers for the replies
hard reset shouldn't be necessary,
If you tap the speaker icon on the top bar it shows 2 speaker volume indicators. I suspect the right-hand one (ringer volume, as opposed to left one - speaker volume) was set to minimum (ie off). I've accidentally knocked the volume buttons on the side of the handset, turning the volume off before...
no sound orbit2 deaf
I'm new in forum...
I have same problem sound /no ringtone no voice during the call etc./just desapere after 5 min. I can't heare anything, but after reset everything is normal again fo about 5 min some time more.

In-call Volume problem with cm-10 - Really eed help!

I installed an unofficial version of cm 10 that was linked by someone here in one of the forums, named "cm-10-20120816-d2vzw.zip", other than NFC (which I don't care about), everything works, even mms, I have cwm 6.0.1.2, and aosp kernel, so no kernel required. It runs VERY smooth, I've been using it instead of TW for a few days now, and happy with it. Anyway, when I get calls, every time, the in-call volume shows low, but it's at its loudest possible, I have to click higher, then lower to get it under control. I have installed volume+, but that doesn't really seem to have any effect on any volume anyway, but regardless, this resets on EVERY call, I don't think volume+ would cause that. It resets again for the next call even if I lower it of the previous calls. Does anyone know a fix? Any way to get the in call volume setting to stick? All other volume settings are remembered, why not this? It's so out someone walking by 50 ft away could hear the phone (not speakerphone) clearly. Really need help with this!
Any suggestions would be welcome.

In-call volume reset after every call

Hello buddies, I own a 64gb One bought directly from OnePlus.
But I'm facing a serious issue. When I speak on a call I have the call volume set to max. But many times when receiving calls the call volume has been reset two clicks down. It's like it can't "save" the setting for the in-call volume.
Any thoughts?
I'm on 33R, and already did a hard reset but the problem insist.
When i was in 33r, i faced this too. Switched to cm nightly and Mahdi. once i reinstalled 33r and the issue was gone. So i think a simple reflash could do it, not reset. Or wait for the 38 update. This could overwrite the culprit too...
My volume stayed at max then, so it is not a "feature" i think.
Thanks for the answer kondroid.
My device is completely stock and even though after a hard reset the issue is there.
I don't have the time to install everything from scratch so I'll wait for the 38R OTA update.
But if the problem insist after the update how can I reflash the device to a completely factory stock 38R or 33R?

Hmm, weird. Only time I get this is when using earphones.
There is a setting:
Settings-> Sound -> Volumes.
Uncheck safe headset volume.
But that is for headsets. You already said you dont use it.
Cant think of anything else. Meanwhile, try Volume+ and see if it helps. I've not use it, but just read about it.
I'm experiencing the same issue, have yet to find a solution other then manually cranking the in-call volume up to max every time. Not a biggy for me though.

Yup, I have unchecked it but it's for the headset that I'm not using.
Unfortunately Volume+ doesn't help, it's CM11 issue.

I'm talking numerous times a day on the phone because of my work, and it's pretty annoying 50 times a day to crank up the volume.

Mine is with every 2nd/3rd call or so, not EVERY single call, but i do agree with you, its pretty annoying, but since i haven't found a solution yet, and haven't heard of anyone else complaining about it (except now for you) i figured id just live with it. If its solvable then by all means i would like to have it solved.
Same issue here, still no solution. Posting a Q&A post here, to gain more attention. http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/call-volume-automatically-reset-to-low-t3273699
Did anyone find a solution or got this solved?? I have the same problem as bill_viper
I am on CM11 44s, I set the volume to 2 notches and it resets back to full when on another call. The setting is not getting saved or something.
This problem has cropped up a couple of days back, previously it was working fine.
Anyone having any idea?
what is you use the volume rocker and only "priority notifications" are shown and reboot the device.

Low incoming call volume

Has anybody experienced low incoming call volume? It works great on blue-tooth.
Thanks.
I actually have the opposite issue - normal call volume is awesome, but blue tooth call volume is low.

I agree. This is a serious problem especially when I am using public transport as it becomes really hard to hear the caller most of the time unless I am in a quiet place. I hope this problem as well as the back button blinking issue (appears to be data transmission related on 4G) is also fixed when Android 7 is finally released for ZF3U.
ASUS Pegasus X008. Low in-call volume.

Got the same problem.
Found two suggestions in Internet:
1. Go Engineer Menu *#*#3646633#*#*
Put all values for sound to max.
2. Downloaded ASUS Madia wizard.
Raise all vales to max.
But in vain. Still the problem persists.
Please suggest anything, if you have beaten that problem.
Hi! I cannot enter the Engineering Code as mentioned above. Each time I type it at the last symbol it clears the whole code. Is there a different code for the ZF3U? My in-call volume is non existent and I am still trying to find a fix.

Extremely low Bluetooth volume

Hi,
I have an issue with my Samsung Galaxy S8+.
If I try to play music via bluetooth to my speakers, the volume is very very low. The settings are on max and media volume sync can't be enabled.
I tried playing music with my Samsung Galaxy S7Edge and the volume was completely normal and very loud with nothing changed on the speakers.
I also tried this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/how-to/low-bluetooth-volume-car-fix-t3595530 with no result.
My BT speakers: https://www.trust.com/en/product/19367-tytan-2-1-subwoofer-speaker-set-with-bluetooth-black
My S8+:
Android 8.0.0
Stock
Knox triggered: 0
Never did any manual flash. Always just updated it.
Are there common reasons for this or good fixes? Or is it just a software bug?
Thanks for your time!

It's oreo, they messed up the volume and everything audio on oreo, no fix right now I'm going to make a topic to see if it's possible to downgrade back to nougat.
Not just an Oreo thing. I've had the same issue with the Bluetooth in my car as well.

it's amazing that you can't tell the difference at all, it's very noticeable, i am unable to hear anything when i receive calls in my headset either, this latest oreo update is broken.
found something online, it's something to do with media sync, try connecting the bluethooth device, then go to settings, bluethooth, 3 dots and select media sync, select on and make sure both phone and headphones volume is max and restart phone, anyone notice any difference? i'm testing it now.

Yea that was the first thing I have read about when I started searching for it. I wanted to try it, but it seems like my BT speakers are not compatible with it. It says that it isnt compatible when I try to activate it. Not sure if there is a workaround to make it working.
I don't think this is an Oreo specific problem. I've encountered this bug since marshmallow.
The only way I could get it to reset the volume back to max was when I used crdroid.
The volume would get set very low. I could open the global equaliser via Google music. And the volume would not change.
I would then access the global eq via another music player. Just make a tiny change to any parameters and boom. The volume is now set to the correct level again.
The moment I would use Google music to access the eq the volume would jump down again
My tablet is now on naosp and the volume issue has popped back up.
Doing the same procedure will reset the volume correctly.
It is rather annoying to have to do this.
I don't know what is causing the problem but it looks like the global eq ultimately effects the output volume disabled or enabled

No difference at all with three different devices I connect to. I do have media sync disabled already. Hopefully you get it figured out.
I've done a test on my S8+ now.
I downloaded the latest firmware and flashed it with a complete reset of the phone.

After the flash of it the BT issue is gone. This was done yesterday (4/10/2018). I will report back if the BT issue returns OR in like 2 weeks+ if everything is still fine.

do you need root for that though and i never had this issue in nougat, this issue first happened in oreo.
And i have a universal eq setting on a separate app called precise volume which does the same thing.

It dosn't work anyway, still the same, on a good note they have fixed the low volume for incoming calls on my headphones, just the music volume is still crap.
I think my only solution is another set of headphones that support LDAC but they are £300+ lol or to get a Microsoft music player, i have a laptop that even beats what the old volume was on nougat so maybe a Microsoft music player would be a good idea, gonna look around.
It was good while it lasted i guess.

I wasn't rooted before but since then have rooted via magisk systemless root. I can still use pay and bank access etc...
I'm using viper4android now and have also disabled the system EQ.
I have just got connects2 for my car last weekend.
On the odd occasion the volume will drop when opening automate(the driving launcher) which is set to launch playmusic on Bluetooth connection.
But as soon as I swipe down the volume jumps back up.

Yeah for sure but be aware you might loose functionality on apps like banking and payments.
I use magisk to hide root so I can still use those functionalities.
Make sure you read into it first.
I've had a replacement connects2 module fitted today and all is going well.
Viper4android my EQ is absolutely amazing in comparison to other EQ and in my case the volume issue has been solved.
Actually it's really loud as I was used to the lower level.
Steps I took.
Unlock bootloader ( wiped my tablet)
Flash magisk
Install magisk manager
Added selinux module via magisk manager
Added viper4android via magisk manager
Disable global EQ
Set selinux to permissive
Install viper4android driver. Prompts when opening the app for the first time.
Reboot
And it's all good.
The bug with AutoMate seems to be tied to my maps speed prompting notification voice.
If it does revert to no EQ, I drag down from the top bar and it's back up again
I hope it works for you. Plus you now have a very awesome EQ as a bonus

Try enabling Developer mode (press Build Number 8 times). Then turn on Disable absolute volume. This de-links the phone volume control from the headset's volume control. Now you should be able to increase volume on both independently.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS. I had two pair of bluetooth headphones. A Cheap pair with volume control and a fancy pair of JBL Frees with no volume control. I could NOT figure out why sometimes the volume was great when they connected and other times it was VERY LOW all the while the cheap pair sounded great when I turned them up. I was at wits end blaming JBL and Samsung when it was a setting for Bluetooth devices.
Thanks again Huyi. Very glad I found this post.
