Purchasing Dilemma (A9 VS M9) - HTC One A9

After thinking and thinking I have not yet arrived at a final decision on the purchase of A9 and M9.
It is a paradox, A9 now costs about 320 Euros in Italy, while 390 m9. So it is more convenient.
I therefore ask you to help choose which of the two is most appropriate for me.
I don't play games on smartphone, I basically use it for working, expecially calling and internet.
But I am close enough to being an audiophile, and for me the sound quality on headphones matters very, very much. Consequently I am inclined to the A9.
Despite this, I fear that 2GB of memory and a processor not very powerful may limit me.
I currently use one Xiaomi Mi4C with a Snapdragon 808, a powerful cpu.
Also compared to m9 Htc A9 cannot be modded, and I like custom roms and modding in general.
So please can you give me your opinion and advice regarding my dilemma?
Thanks to anyone who wants to contribute!

Just try purchasing a 3GB RAM variant A9 and you should be fine. I have one, and it flies. No slowdowns and no processor issues. The audio is amazing and overall performance too.
If you don't get the 3GB variant, I'd suggest a M9 as it is a lovely device too, and is future proof because of the extra gig of RAM.

Hi, unfortunately there is no possibility to find in Italy a 3Gb variant, so I can only buy the 2gigabyte one...

I used both , now using a9 2 gb and it's sexy , fast and way better camera than m9 . If you don't play high demand games . you should be ok with 2 gb

As I said I do not play games on smartphone.
Ok, I'll buy it, I found it priced 307 euros, I think it is a good price...

you won't regret it . I bought mine about 500 eur. ?

It depends on what you like more, M9 is more powerful, with louder external speakers, and has way more custom ROMs, but the A9 has a better camera, slimmer build, and better (but quieter) audio... The A9 however does not have much dev support, unlike the M9 which has a lot of custom ROMs and better dev support... So each has there ups and downs

Hi I want to thank everybody, HTC A9 is arrived today!
I must say that I have noticed that has a power a little less than my previous smartphone Xiaomi Mi4C, but software optimization and hardware are really of higher level, there is no comparison.
I've red lots of posts but I do not understand one thing: I am planning to root it and I want to installa xposed framework without s-off (maybe I'll do it in the future).
It seems to me that the only way is installing SenseO V0,4 (maybe the only one deodexed for an European device), is it true or are there other way?
Thanks again for the advices!

Well, it depends. You can't install xposed on the AT&T A9, but on the developer+European version you can, you need to make sure you are on either 1.56.xxx.x or 1.57.xxx.x, the only one it won't install on is 1.27.xxx.x

Can you please give me a link were I can study? I do not understand if 1.56.xxx.x or 1.57.xxx.x are RUU or what else.
I've put the phone in download mode but I don't find any information about it.
Thanks!
Edit: I've done a fastboot getvar all

boot-mode: download
version-baseband: [email protected]
version-bootloader: 1.0.0.0000
mid: 2PQ910000

So I suppose I am a very old item: 1.10.161.7
The cid seems to be Vodafone, so I think the only way to mod the phone is with S-Off...
I am a bit confused...

So S-Off, then I've to convert to Usa Unlocked, and then A9 Base ROMs/Recovery-Flashable zips.
Also the [ROM]SenseO V0,4 needs 1.56+, for my phone is not available, so s-off again...
Ok, I will buy Sunshine...

No brainer take the A9, the M9 has a bad camera and get too hot specially in summer

Considering the HOX

Hi All,
I am considering upgrading to the HOX - 16GB white dual core version. I have a few questions.
1. How easy is it to root?
2. Is it true that only approx. 10GB is usable for storage?
3. Does HTC keep the device up to date with OTA updates? When is JB expected?
4. Any common hardware defects?
5. How does the S4 stack up to T3?
Thanks
This is a question you should be asking in the AT&T thread and not the Htc One X international thread
1. Easy to root there is a script that will do it for you.
2. I have heard that its only 10GB available.
3. They are generally the best OEM to release update they do release it first it will be a few months yet.
4. None on the S4 version as far as I am aware.
5. The S4 is very capable from videos I have seen it seems smoother when using day to day but it lacks in gaming performance. I also think its better for battery life.

I have the asia hox and I don't have none of the issues others with the European and other hox report not one. If u want LTE get the usa HOX. S4 pushs the same power threw 2 cores because its built on a newer arm design. How ever you don't get the graphics quality with the S4 that you do with T3 and you also don't get the 5th core. I have seen JB roms but nothing official. Idk if HTC plan on keeping us up to date but from what I see with the ruus they are headed in the right direction. 10GB is a lie unless you spent all week installing app after app or music. I'm completely new to android coming from the iPhone 4S and I was able to jailbreak this phone just fine. Just make sure your computer is properly set up with the SDK and know how to use cmd or terminal. I was on the same boat and I chose the Quadcore version.

See, this is how rumors get started. You can root the Teg3 One X. Here's the instructions.
http://www.thesuperusersguide.com/hasoon2000s-toolkit-method.html
There's no shortage of custom ROMs, kernels, and tweaks if you look in the dev section. Some of the biggest devs on XDA are developing for the Teg3 One X because of its potential. The phone's "S-ON" which imposes some limitations which I guess is what sabret00the was referring to. You also lose all or part of your warranty because to root you have to unlock the phone on HTCdev first and waive your warranty rights to use their unlock tool.
As for 4.0.3 vs. 4.0.4 vs. 4.1, nobody can predict when (or even if) manufacturers are going to push updates to their phones. The One X was further in its launch cycle when 4.0.4 came out than the SGS3 which is why it has 4.0.3. A major update that's in testing already shows the One X is being moved to 4.0.4. And there's absolutely no hard evidence of when JB is coming to any manufacturers phone to have a legitimate conversation of "who's going to be first." Samsung and HTC are both pretty piss poor at keeping up with point and version updates overall so singling out one device as an example isn't representative.
Some people in this thread really need to read the first post... He's asking about the S4 version, not the Tegra 3!

So just the CPU, case, amount of storage, radio, motherboard, firmware, battery life, and performance are different.
That's right, the screen is the same, probably.

Are you new here?
If you're talking about the T3 version he obviously stated S4 a few times in his post. Which is very easy to root and have little doubt about not getting JB.

Both the international and S4 OneX are both very easy to root. The S4 version hasn't gotten S-OFF yet, but that doesn't preclude you from using root access applications or flashing ROMs. Unlocking the bootloader has so far been done though spoofing the device's CID and using HTCDev to unlock.
Yes, it seems that the sdcard partition is approx 10GB in size. If you like your music, I suggest using Google Play Music and hanging out in places with WiFi access.
HTC has yet to officially announce JB for either device. I haven't heard anything about a community-built JB ROM for the S4 version, either.
No hardware defects that I've seen, though you may see fit to tweak WiFi on the software side a bit. Also, Gorilla Glass 2 isn't all that it's cracked up to be - grab a screen protector if you like going to the beach or anywhere with sand/grit/gravel.
S4 is great - it's the software running on it that's a bit of a pain. I popped AOKP on my One X and it soars in comparison to Sense 4. It's as if I've got Project Butter on here.

Should I buy the HTC One S?

My old one v isn't that good as planned and it has graphic issues, now I want to buy a new phone and the htc one s is a very good phone I think, but I want to hear some of your opinions.
Should I buy it?
And another question: Is this battery life prob in jelly bean fixed or is it actually there? Would you update from ics to jb? And why?

The phone is good, but not best. It would be a problem if you would have a S3 snapdragon processor instead of the s4. Also some people have a sensitive phone like me. Than you have screen tearing alltime you have a cm10 based custom rom. Also if you want to flash a ROM you need to flash the kernel with a terminal unless you are S-OFF. I would advice you to pay a bit more for a top phone like the Galaxy S3. The S3 is a highend Smartphone. The One S only a mid-range.

I don't know price situation in your country but I will suggest for add some more money try one X+ / GS 3
Battery life for One S is just fair if u stick to internet don't buy this one S because more power consumed & heats up
Xperia SP good in same price
HTC will launch M4 (mini One) soon try that but without sdcard slot & 10gb memory same as One S if really wanna this phone here some suggestions
S4 processor (S3 heats and p
20% less battery & less support of developers)
Color grey / white (black chipping problem)
64 GB variant available
If wanna root take care of S-OFF cid HTC_001

The only phone I would consider instead at this point is the new HTC one, but only if I could get it on contract for next to nothing. I believe the x+ has the tegra 3, so again I would choose the one s, especially since it's cheaper.

[Q] Which phone as my 1st android, HTC One X or XL?

Hey guys,
Im looking to finally venture into Android world, yes I know I'm very late
Recently these two phones have caught my attention, they are selling for around the same price, with XL cheaper by $15 and I have few questions from their users.
1. Which of these two has best rooting scope, as I'll root the phones as soon as I get it.
2. Dual core VS Quad Core, which of these is faster in the real world, And is the difference too much?
3. Which one has better battery life?
4. Does all XL phones has AT&T logo at the top?
1. I believe we have a better development community for the XL.
2. You'd be hard pressed to notice a performance difference, they perform about the same. But, the quad core heats up more. In a real world situation you'd struggle to find a situation where you actually need the extra two cores, plus phone software is constantly trying to shut down cores to save battery.
3. Battery life differs greatly from user to user so that's pretty much impossible to answer.
4. No they don't, only the at&t branded model has the at&t logo, the rest of them have the HTC logo. If possible try to get a non-at&t version, they're much easier to unlock the bootloader on.

Dual core S4 is slightly better in some instances, quad core Tegra slightly better in other instances. As timmaaa mentioned, you won't notice much, if any difference in actual usage. I think some people have gotten better battery life with the dual core S4, but also as timmaaa mentioned, there are a lot of other variables that affect battery life, so you may or may not find that to be true. More importantly, the Tegra chipset is known to be a bit buggier.
One other thing I forgot to mention is that the Tegra quad-core chip has prevented One X users from being able to get s-off.
Thank you all n Guys how is Xperia SP. Its about $50 expensive than the XL, but I get Adreno 320. Any advice for me?
The only Xperia I would buy would be the z1 or the z2.

Thank you so much timmaaa. Can you point me to sites worth reading about rooting and custom ROMS, ive zero knowledge about them, so any help would be great.
The only site you should ever go to for rooting etc is right here, XDA. It's the only fully comprehensive site available. Other sites don't properly distinguish between phone models, which is very dangerous and can cause bricks. The other sites usually only plagiarise XDA content anyway. Once you've decided which phone you're going to buy you need to do some research before attempting anything, this is very important, there is a certain level of knowledge required when modifying your device and proceeding without it can result in a damaged phone. If you end up buying a One XL I have some very valuable threads listed in my signature which will get you started.

M9+ or A9?

Hello!
I am very happy with my G4 but I want to return to HTC, I just can't live without their UI and metal casing.
What is a better choice?
A9 which is newer but screen is smaller or the M9+ which has a bad camera but a very good screen QHD + 5.2''?
I sold my M9 because I had sometimes trouble reading text as I have some astigmatism, is the Amoled screen of the A9 better for text reading or I should definitely take the M9+?
If i had choice i would take the m9+ but the black band on the m9+ make me get the a9 .. the a9 is a very good phone too ..
I've had both and I would choose the A9. I love the form factor and the screen. The GPU in the M9+ is worse than A9.
A9 is just beautifull
I do not know the M9, but the A9 is the best *gg* .
Like the A9 better, except the processor...they really need an M10 in this thing...the M9 will melt down your phone and eat the battery. Wish there was something in between these two models.
Only the 2GB RAM/16 GB internal memory A9 is available in my country, will it be much slower than the 3GB model?
And will a custom rom or RUU be compatible on both models or each one has its own rom?
2gb is very cool and smooth don't worrie i use the same.

Oui! I just remembered the M8 is also 2GB RAM and was smoother than M9 (though thanks to Leedroid Rom)
Thanks God I have this 64GB SD Turbo, though because I lose 16gb compared to the G4 I just sold, I will have to delete 3 VR for Google Cardboard adult movies (2-3GB each)
BTW anyone tried the A9 with Google Cardboard 2.0?
I use 2Gb ,too. Very smooth like Will972 said.
The A9 is a very tempting deal, especially the US unlocked version(they really are living up to their timely updates promise)!

htc one a9 vs: lg g4/galaxy s6/nexus 6p

Lg g4, s6 and nexus 6p are htc one a9's rival.
I want to ask some questionst to htc one a9 users.
1) why did you choose htc one a9 over lg g4?
2) why did you choose htc one a9 over galaxy s6?
3) why did you choose htc one a9 over nexus 6p
I'm not fan of any company.
I just want to read your comments and your useful experiences.
İnformations in this thread may be helpful for customers.
Short answer, long answer doesnt matter.
I always loved HTC devices and had almost every single one. I currently own a S6 also but here is my reason why I would buy a A9. HTC phones have great build. The A9 has a fingerprint scanner with AMOLED screen and 3GB of ram. Sense OS is super solid. NO LAG. Despite having a somewhat midrange CPU it performs everyday tasks as expected and very smooth. Charges up really fast and does last all day with battery tweaks (greenify). The S6 I would say is the ultimate phone for people that wants the best of everything but you'll be stuck on stock software with no modding and rooting for most US carriers. The A9 can bootloader unlock and have root.

Smaller screen, no lag, love the build quality, htc UI is better than any other, amazing sound output.
Thx for your comment.
Is there a difference between a9 vs s6 on listening music via earpods.
I heard htc one a9 has a special feature about listening music via earpod
I sold my nexus 6p and then bought the A9, there are far more custom roms for the nexus, but I just found it to big for day to day use and I also bent it (never happened to me before) also as mentioned above the sound output on headphones with the HTC blows the nexus away I don't know what the actual hardware difference is but listening to music on the HTC (which I do a lot) is much much better.
I miss the custom roms of the m8 and nexus but other than that really liking this phone....

Then had the G4 for several months, loved the phone, big screen and high res for VR, HTC Car was compatible somehow, but when they begin to die (motherboard fault) and as I had no warranty, I passed to the A9.
The A9 has a faster and smoother UI even though the cpu is not as good as the G4's one, audio perfection of the A9 absolutely destroy the G4, metal body...the only thing I missed is the big screen + 1440p which are perfect for VR.
With the A9 in google cardboard 2.0 you can see the pixels and the limits of the phone, perhaps the cardboard 1.0 is better as smaller
Thx for comments.
Reviewers and editors on internet give very quick decisions.
They just looking specs, compare specs and give a decision.
Generally they arent using phones on long term.
Long term user experiences are very important.
The one thing i would add is its slippery, i've ordered a Dot matrix case but is taking an age to turn up, in the meantime its bare and slippery in the hands... Obviously when the case turns up it'll be sorted....
