[UPDATE 11 MAY 2016]
This solution is slightly flawed on B209/B211. Accessibility setting keeps getting turned off by system. Audioralf has found how to keep Accessibility set after screen is turned off at Settings, Advanced, Battery Management, Protected Apps to set Tasker & AutoNotification to keep running after screen is turned off. Unfortunately Accessibility settings do not survive reboot. Setting Autolaunch seems to get Accessibility preserved on reboot. [END]
I started this innocent query on ajsmsg78's great KANGVIP Slim B209:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66559174&postcount=678
Many thanks to Audioralf for discussing, suggesting solutions and offering help en route. He suggested opening a new thread as the discussion has become too complex to remain on the ROM thread - here it is.
My original query was:
I would like to automate going from home to driving (to start with). I envisage a slick one tap process.
Simplest example would be tap one hidden notification button to do all of 1. Turn off Wifi. 2. Turn on Mobile Data. 3. Show Notification Icon.
Tasker etc fail to Turn On Mobile Data.
Any suggestions for minimum number of taps/swipes to achieve this, when X2 is sitting in car cradle.

Audioralf suggested Timeriffic but that did not show a Mobile Data toggle.
I expanded on my query
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66568134&postcount=685
My original connectivity issues on B209 was the WLAN/Mobile data switch REMINDER intruding whilst I was driving. Seemed whatever setting I chose, Mobile data got turned off, as I discovered when parked in some traffic jam. I dont get this if I turn WLAN off manually.
I dont recall having this issue in B112.
Also checking my Mobile Data billing (PAYG), it seemed thriftier to have Mobile Data turned off when not wanted.
Seems automation apps cannot toggle Mobile Data switch on this ROM.
But Kangvip Tools can via their button actions. I would like that one click could do several actions. I have not found an english Kangvip forum.
Also I would like to see a Mobile Data Enabled icon on the status bar, to minimise chance of hitting the next traffic jam.

AudioRalf suggested xorware all-in-one widget. The mobile data toggle works, but it is a widget on the homepage, rather than operable from anywhere.
I came across a solution
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66587950&postcount=700
I used a Kangvip button action to toggle Mobile Data. That action also puts out a toast "Mobile data enable/Mobile data disable". Autonotification has a plugin to Tasker that can catch toast events to trigger a set of actions, i.e turn off Wifi.

I find Tasker opaque so I will add some screen shots here later.
I am still looking to create a status bar icon that verifies Mobile Data is turned on.
I can reproduce your solution now.
I added a second task after turning wlan on or off: type Alarm, notification and type a text. This will inform you what happened.
Additional you see the wlan icon or the data/3G icon to be informed which status you have.

Great news you have it up and running!
I have not been able to get the alarm notification icon or text to remain on status bar.
Which is the data/3G icon? Is this icon shown when data connection is up?
I often lose cellular connection when driving.
I dont know why Accessibility setting gets turned off. Any ideas?

Seems the system turns off Autonotification Toast intercept after a while.
So the solution does not work anymore.
Could you search the Tasker forum for a solution. I guess it's a marshmallow problem.

Thanks for the pictorial guide Audioralf. I did not realise that icon represented the data connection.

Solution with 2 hidden man buttons without tasker:
My device: 701->703 Kang VIP B209
Yes, I have used that solution, but then forgot to manually off WLAN, and had the Mobile Data turned off by the WLAN/Mobile data switch reminder.
I guess I got carried away wishing for a simple 1-click solution.
Test on b211. If still auto deactivate , please report it into the tasker forum abd ask for help. We have paid it, so they should fix this.

I have reported it to AutoApps for B209.:

Looks great...can it be set up as a widget? It would be nice to have it as a fullpage widget on the home screen!
Brilliant, I love it If something comes up, you'll hear it. Lovin' it so far...
Looks good. Could you add the ability to sort applications in the "App Lock" scree?
Love it so far no problems, like the protection option the most.. thanks for this great application..

This is awesome man, installing it now.
very nice! I really like the ability to lock apps, brilliant!
Cool app, except for the app protection feature, which doesn't seem to work. Even after locking my apps, I can use them freely, it doesn't ask for the password...

Same problem I have. Anyone know a fix?
Sounds interesting. Will this app be avalible over the market soon?
Sounds very powerful. But a few screen shots as preview would be better.
Ive only been using this for like 5 minutes and i'm thoroughly impressed. Only thing i could think of to make this better, is some widgets and toggles, but regardless this app is AMAZING. Thank you.
Had this on for all of 2 minutes after seeing it recommended on another forum (word spreads fast apparently!!), love it!
Can see it replacing alot of apps for some people. Really well done especially for a first release.
Feature requests
- battery/3g usage widgets? This would mean I could kill another couple of widgets
- on the detailed data screen, it shows combined 3g/wifi data usage, can it be implemented so we can just see either 3G *or* wifi, rather than combined? Would be a good way of spotting rogue downloaders (of course the summary would still show that now, but it'd be easier to spot problems on 3g which is where it costs you $$ if things go bad).
Edit - just found a bug
2g/3g traffic -> more detail -> touch on an app and get FC of com.zdworks.android.toolbox, then goes back to main app summary screen.
HTH
Thank you very much for this *Great* App I'm lovin it!
Excellent work!
One thing, is it possible to have an increment of ONE minute in DO NOT DISTURB?
Then it would be perfect!
Cheers!
DAVE©
Brilliant.
Does it work in landscape? I would love to use it on my Streak.
Nice app. I've got a suggestion about the mobile network netcounter settings. The app considers only data per month. Could it be possible to customize it a bit more? I've got a data plan which gives me 50 MB per day (not per month) so I cannot use this part of the app because doesn't fit with my dataplan. Another nice thing could be to hide the standar battery icon (the one near the clock) when the Notification Icon si set to "Battery". Another nice thing could be the Ignore List in the Task Killer (there are some apps I don't ever want to kill).
Anyway I like it a lot!
This sounds interesting! I will give it a try and be back with feedback
Very cool application but it has some issues on my galaxy s , App Lock feature if enabled the application keeps crashing else everything seems fine.. Loving it
AutomateIt is a simple automation tool for your Android device.
The application lets you define a set of your desired behaviors in response to events on your Android device. Each behavior/rule is defined as a pair of Trigger-Action that can be selected from a large set including SMS, bluetooth, wifi, location, headset, applications, battery and more triggers/actions.
AutomateIt provides a default set of useful rules to get you started:
Low battery warning
Quiet at night
Normal sound mode at morning
Max volume when headset unplugged
Lower volume when headset plugged
Unmute by SMS
Create your own rules with AutomateIt or use its built-in Rules Market with thousands of rules created and shared by AutomateIt users and use them on your device!

I really like the idea of this, being so heavily configurable, but it doesn't do the 1 thing that I want. I want to turn off screen lock when connected to my home wifi. There's already a dedicated app for that, so it looks like I'll have to stick with that for now.

If you do update this to include that action, then I'll be all over it! Cheers for the hard work.
Can it be moved to SD?
Can you make that i can select multiple triggers, if one, or more because true (or all true), then execute it.
Also to have more actions per rule would be nice =D

Nope. Since AutomateIt has a service running it cannot run from the SD card (at least that's what google is recommending)
If you have some workaround you can suggest I'd love to hear it...
To bad i don't have a CC, because then i would buy the pro version.
Can i buy it via SMS or so?
The pro version is only available through the Android Market
I tried automateit and it was not reliable in the one function I needed most which was "enable bluetooth when plugged into power" and "disable bluetooth when power disabled"....I'd find bluetooth left on or find it off when it should be on....finally went back to the dedicated app.
I also recall it not doing other functions such as "run app x when power enabled" "close app x when power disabled"....alternatives would be checking for home wifi ssid or any method of it knowing I'm "home". (I run wired tether as soon as the phone is plugged in to tie the phone to the local lan )
famewolf, I don't know which version you have tried but a lot of things has changed in AutomateIt in the last few months and the rules that you described are exactly the ones I have defined for myself and they work flawlessly (a list of all my rules and other ideas is available here).
I also didn't get any report about these functions from any of the users who downloaded the app (>25,000 users...)
I'd appreciate it if you give it another chance and report any errors to me so I can resolve them (just press "Help !" on the About screen if you encounter any error).

I'm willing to give it another go but I think my usage might also be a factor...if I toggle airplane mode on/off to get the radio to go to 3g vs E then the app has to handle resyncing the bluetooth which also got turned off and back on for example. My home phone have bluetooth links so when I dock the phone it links to them etc...
Does it support importing and exporting of rules yet? I can see where a webpage where you could checklist the rules you wanted and it builds you a customized ruleset being very nice.

Yes. AutomateIt supports backup and restore of your rules (I think it's supported for over two months now so you probably tried a VERY old version...).
As for having a webpage to select rules and build a customized ruleset, I agree that this could be nice but currently I prefer focusing on adding more features to the App. maybe someday I'll build someting like that...
It would be great to have a WiMax on/off option for those toting Evo's, etc.

Not sure if Android gives same access as WinMo, but during a phone call if I set it down on a flat surface it would automatically switch to speaker-phone, and switch back when picked up. Is the same possible on Android with this App?
I can't figure out how to use this app.
I would like WiFi to be triggered "on" when entering my house, as well as WiFi triggered "off" when leaving my house. I rather not trigger WiFi on/off each time I want it to.

an app called tasker is thousand times better...
If you are as annoyed as I am that EMUI disables per app notifications and forces a single system wide sound then keep on reading, I have a simple no root solution. If you're already familiar with Tasker then the rest is probably going to seem very obvious and this tutorial isn't for you. But if you hadn't thought of this yet, well then, you're welcome lol. It's an elegant solution I almost overlooked while trying to find ways to enforce a system wide change with magisk or xposed modules.
Of course, Tasker or some other reliable automation app is necessary. If you don't already have it...........well it's time to catch up on things because you're missing out on one of the greatest pieces of software known to android. Nowadays with ADB permissions like pm grant your.app.here android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS available to developers you hardly need root to pwn your phone. But keeping on topic....
I'll use the stock Messaging app as my example. I want my text messages to have a different notification than say, the rest of the bloody system. Go into your apps list, select Messages, then select Notifications. Turn OFF the notification tone as seen below:
{

}
In Tasker start a new profile and call it Text Notification if it prompts you for a name. The first context should be Event > Phone > Received Text; Type: Any, Sender: leave blank, Content: leave blank. Example is below:
The second context to add is App > select Messages; select Activity and Invert to avoid notifications while the messaging app is open. See below:
Now add an enter task. Select Media > Play Ringtone > select the Notification channel, then select the notification of your choice.
You can do this with as many apps as you like, as seen below. I don't have any personalized ringers or notifications in my list but it is entirely possible to do with little exploring or effort.
I've included a couple sample Profiles for this task. You can import and use them as is or use one as a template for other apps by changing the context of the Tasker profile to trigger any time there is a notification for that app. Remember to turn off sounds for that app in Apps> Notifications and to go into the task and select a new sound that's on your phone. I find I get best results if I set the priority of the profile above 35 and the task to 'Abort Existing' with 'Keep Awake' checked. Nobody would know it's not the way your phone worked normally, it's that snappy. If anyone has any questions or needs another sample profile I'll do my best to help.
Is it possible to configure sound and vibration to stop ringing if you are using the phone?

Yeah you can do that super easily. Just add a new context for State > Display > Display State: set to off. This assumes the screen is generally only on when you're using the phone. If you have notifications set to wake the screen that may interfere. Essentially you can layer as many contexts as you like though, so you could add an additional context for portrait orientation for example and it would stop notifications only if the screen was on and in portrait orientation. I've included a sample task with the screen off context applied below.
An alternative is to add a profile that switches to vibrate mode at a chosen trigger. The profile below will place your phone into vibrate only mode any time the phone is placed face down with the screen on - anytime you are receiving a phone call or notification simply flip the phone facedown to mute it. You could add an exit task or other profiles from there to determine how the sound turns back on.
@djparent i dont understand how you are adding two contexts before entering a task. Once i finish the first context, it is getting me to add a task. How do i add two contexts before adding a task?

It's very simple if not straight forward lol. Once you've created your first context then create a task as requested. Once the task is created then long press on the original context and it will present you with a pop up menu to change, add or rename contexts as you need. This allows you to create ever more complicated profiles as your skills/needs for Tasker progress. Best of luck!
Newbie to tasker
Hi I also can't seem to add more than one context, I'm obviously missunderstanding lol. Could you please post some more details on how I do this, appologise if this sounds very obvious, I'm sure as I use the app more I will soon be more competent. Thanks in advance ?
Is it possible to stop notification sound when on a call or to only beep when on a call?
Not really sure where I should post this (maybe moderators can help me move it to the right place). Here is the deal. On my brothers P10, there is a 4G toggle button in the quick settings. Basically you can enable and disable 4G using that toggle. As far as my understanding goes, that toggle is just a shortcut to the explicit settings option which is found under Wireless and Networks > Mobile Network > 4G. Now to the issue at hand. My P30 (which is running EMUI 9, same as the P10 if I'm not mistaken) doesn't have this toggle in quick settings. But the actual 4G toggle is there in settings (under Wireless and Networks > Mobile Network > 4G). A quick search told me that weirdly enough Huawei has removed this little nice feature (I can't for the life of me guess why). Long story short... I want this toggle back because my connection usually drops to 3G and turning 4G off then on fixes it. Why not lock it to 4G using Settings Database Editor or something like that? Because my stupid ISP doesn't let people have phone calls over 4G. 4G is strictly for data only in my country; I don't know how it works in other countries. Basically if I lock it to 4G, I can't make or receive calls.
I know a bit of programming so I was playing around trying to add this quick settings toggle. I have added the toggle but now I don't know how I can tell it to basically do the same thing the 4G option under settings is doing.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Quick settings toggle called "Mobile Data", why not just toggle that to fix 4G?
There is an app you can create shortcuts with too
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sika524.android.quickshortcut
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.nicolai.buch.andersen.ns
Or add to the quick settings panel

I can't lock 4G because that means I can not receive or make phone calls.

I'd try one of those shortcut apps, they generally allow you to make shortcuts to otherwise unavailable / hidden settings
Never heard of any carrier stopping calls over 4G (VoLTE) Voice over LTE

Would this help?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=network.wcdmaonlymode.only3gswitch
I have downloaded and tried all the apps you suggested. They don't have the feature I want. They have options to add some useful features to the quick toggle section but there was none to toggle 4G. I guess that's because it's a feature that's very specific of Huawei OS (EMUI).
I live in Ethiopia. As a 3rd world country we have very weak network infrastructures. The 4G service is limited to the capital (it doesn't even cover the whole capital). Calls aren't allowed over the 4G network. The network automatically drops to 3G when you receive or try to make a phone call. It's the ISPs way of relieving the huge data traffic on 3G.

You sir... you are amazing. It worked. No need to fiddle with creating apps and stuff. It's just quite odd its disabled by default. Its a quite handy feature. Thank you very much again.

For all the times I've bricked with this app I still love it. There's gotta be a LIST of settings *what they do* put secure .global . System
Very helpful tip!!! Thanks!
Tried this on my p30 pro. Quick setting option became available, but would only work if the sim card is using the sim2 slot (nm/sim). This may work for now, but hinders me to use memory card in the future.
Any help is appreciated!

I cannot find the line. This is what came up looking for it through SetEdit.
What can I do?
If I add the line, should it work?
Thanks in advance!

I can see toggle button appear after setedit but its just dead button... maybe its for 2nd sim.
any other solution?
Hi guys.
Recently bought the phone and have been enjoying it so far.
Couple of nags appeared while using it. The lack of doubletap to sleep and the lack of NFC tile (because I don't want to be blasting my google wallet all day).
So after some investigation and some GitHub fishing I was able to develop an app that does both. The goal was to be as clean as possible and avoiding having background services, especially continuous Acessibility services.
THE APP HAS NO INTERFACE!!!
So what the app does is give you an app icon that you can put on your homescreen. When pressed, that activates an acessibility service that locks the screen and allows use of fingerprint or face unlock. The lock is instant with no fake black screens.
The main advantage here is that the app kills itself and the acessibility service also kills itself so the service only runs for 0,03 seconds while turning the screen off.
You also get a "Lock" quicksettings tile that does the same and a "NFC" tile that activates and deactivates the NFC directly through the tile, updating the status dinamically.
Advantages versus other apps like Tasker:
- Zero background services
- Zero battery usage
- No continuous acessibility services that change how apps behave and introduce lag (see: https://www.xda-developers.com/working-as-intended-an-exploration-into-androids-accessibility-lag/ )
To achieve this the app uses the android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS.
Install instructions:
Install the APK, than go to acessibility and try to activate the service, it will be greyed out. Go back to apps, find the app and press the 3 dot sign on the top right, press allow blocked authorizations or something like that.
Then go to ADB (search on XDA or the web if you dont know how to do that) and give the SECURE_SETTINGS authorization with:
Code:
adb shell pm grant com.buildingromspt.lockandnfc android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
After that the app is ready, use the launcher icon or the quicksettings tile to lock the screen or use the NFC to turn it on or off.
Enjoy!

EDIT:
New version with Wi-Fi tile and English and pt-PT locales:
New version
Requires location permission to show the current connected wifi network name, you can disable the "precise location" slider.
Pretty cool! Nice work! This was one of my main gripes as well. I just picked up the s23 Ultra which does have the NFC quick setting, but I'll have to give this a try when I flip back to the Pixel for a change of pace.
I'd be interested in a similar solution for a WiFi quick setting - a few less clicks than drilling into Internet first.
Thanks for sharing!
I'm planning on adding a wifi and a Android Auto tile when I have time
Fantastic !! Something i was waiting for a long time on a Pixel ! Thanks for your great job ! I agree for a wifi tile and a transparent widget for lock the screen if it's possible ?
Thanks again.

There's already a transparent widget for lock the screen, I use it for a few months now, and it works flawless.

Really great work. Thank you

Unless the power button is broken or something, I think the hardware buttons are good enough to last a really long time. Other components are likely to fail before the buttons do.

It's easy/fast to lock your smartphone with double tap on the home screen, than try to find the power button at night, specially when you come from an Xiaomi MI 10 with reversed volume and power buttons.
And by the way...
Are the hardware buttons on Google Pixel 7 good enough to last a really long time?

Getting used to the buttons is just a matter of time. I would rather get used to the different layout than have an app that runs with Accessibility 24x7.
