Adding a 4G toggle button in quick settings in Huawei P30 - Huawei P30 Questions & Answers

Not really sure where I should post this (maybe moderators can help me move it to the right place). Here is the deal. On my brothers P10, there is a 4G toggle button in the quick settings. Basically you can enable and disable 4G using that toggle. As far as my understanding goes, that toggle is just a shortcut to the explicit settings option which is found under Wireless and Networks > Mobile Network > 4G. Now to the issue at hand. My P30 (which is running EMUI 9, same as the P10 if I'm not mistaken) doesn't have this toggle in quick settings. But the actual 4G toggle is there in settings (under Wireless and Networks > Mobile Network > 4G). A quick search told me that weirdly enough Huawei has removed this little nice feature (I can't for the life of me guess why). Long story short... I want this toggle back because my connection usually drops to 3G and turning 4G off then on fixes it. Why not lock it to 4G using Settings Database Editor or something like that? Because my stupid ISP doesn't let people have phone calls over 4G. 4G is strictly for data only in my country; I don't know how it works in other countries. Basically if I lock it to 4G, I can't make or receive calls.
I know a bit of programming so I was playing around trying to add this quick settings toggle. I have added the toggle but now I don't know how I can tell it to basically do the same thing the 4G option under settings is doing.

Quick settings toggle called "Mobile Data", why not just toggle that to fix 4G?
There is an app you can create shortcuts with too
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sika524.android.quickshortcut
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.nicolai.buch.andersen.ns
Or add to the quick settings panel

I can't lock 4G because that means I can not receive or make phone calls.

I'd try one of those shortcut apps, they generally allow you to make shortcuts to otherwise unavailable / hidden settings
Never heard of any carrier stopping calls over 4G (VoLTE) Voice over LTE

Would this help?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=network.wcdmaonlymode.only3gswitch

I have downloaded and tried all the apps you suggested. They don't have the feature I want. They have options to add some useful features to the quick toggle section but there was none to toggle 4G. I guess that's because it's a feature that's very specific of Huawei OS (EMUI).
I live in Ethiopia. As a 3rd world country we have very weak network infrastructures. The 4G service is limited to the capital (it doesn't even cover the whole capital). Calls aren't allowed over the 4G network. The network automatically drops to 3G when you receive or try to make a phone call. It's the ISPs way of relieving the huge data traffic on 3G.

For all the times I've bricked with this app I still love it. There's gotta be a LIST of settings *what they do* put secure .global . System

Very helpful tip!!! Thanks!
Tried this on my p30 pro. Quick setting option became available, but would only work if the sim card is using the sim2 slot (nm/sim). This may work for now, but hinders me to use memory card in the future.
Any help is appreciated!

[Q][BAKED BLACKBEAN] 2G\3G switch not working

Coming from CM 10, did a full wipe (data, system, etc) and installed BB 8. the switch in power widgets and also the one in quick tiles don't work. The icon changes, but the change isn't actually taking place, and when I click again it's stuck. This is quite troubling 'cause I use 3G outside and Wifi and 2G at home, so I switch a lot, and right now I have to go thru menus to do that Is anyone experiencing this\ know of a way to fix it?

i dont understand why you even have to switch (manualy).
mine switches automaticly, without ever setting it up.
when home or a place with a known wifi-network it will always use that (and gsm/2g for calls).
when no wifi is availible hspda is used. (or wifi is switched off).
i have no excessive drain from the always wifi on, still get about 4+hours screentime in a 24h batterycycle.

Well, you must be lucky, because mine doesn't  , just did a test to confirm it:
1) switch on 3g and data
2) switch on wi fi
3) dial *#*#4636#*#* and tap "phone info"
4) scroll down and voila, tge phone is still in "wcdma preferred", it didn't automagically switch to GSM

Yep you right it broken it show 2g but don't change. Also as far I know and see is that the network data is turned of when wifi is on so you are kinda wasting your time doing what you doing.
I just checkked. Switch doesnt work.
But device works correct.
my device i will switch to GSM only.
Its always on cdma prefferd, thats just a setting that wil not change on itself!!
If i look at my cellinfo.
If i look with wifi off. The GSM is active. And the GPRS service is active On UMTS network.
Wifi on. GSM is active but the GPRS is inactive, So no data.
So it works correctly here.
(btw GPRS is just the global name for dataconnection, type of connection is next line)

Sure. Here is what I get by setting 2G network only, by going thru menus - and it's what I was able to set via powerwidgets on cyano:
Enabling and disabling wifi doesn't change anything about network, it only disables data.. but that's not what I need, sorry if I haven't been clear in my previous posts.
My point is enabling 2G network, not switching data on\off . The data switch works fine, but I want to stay on 2G when I'm not using wifi or when 3G signal is poor

I did not see so much difference but it's a thing that you not use.....
what does it fix? which wifi problems?
Actually I do use Smart Network switch, I switches between LTE and Wi-Fi. I also keep LTE alive in the background for faster switching.
If that is turned OFF - I get periods of "no data" usually when I am trying to navigate and the device had locked on some "Xfinity wifi " as that is a very common open wifi.
I am and most of us are "not paying LTE so we don't use it" - This feature allows for better Network switch and less periods of No-Data, IMHO

My device is a non branded edge 7, which also uses both of them simultaneously - that's a thing of beauty

That must be a regional issue. My S7e never lost a wireless connection or had problems moving between cellular and Wi-Fi. Regardless, both the radio h/w and s/w are going to be new on the S8 so things that affected previous phones aren't likely to affect it. We'll probably getting a totally different set of new issues and quirks.

As in you're in the EU and I'm the U.S. and haven't experienced what you're reporting. I also don't remember seeing chronic worldwide wireless issues on the S7e forum. So it doesn't seem like whatever the problem you're referencing is affected all S7e owners equally. And it certainly won't affect S8 owners because the radio h/w and accompanying s/w is new.

Seems like no matter what I turn off, wifi still toggles automatically, I've wiped cache, booted into safe mode, factory reset, took away permissions to system settings.
Is there a way to trace what is commanding wifi to toggle?
Maybe if I can trace it and will be able to disable it
I see that no apps have requested this through the "wifi control history"
I knew I couldn't be the only one experiencing this, so I'm glad there is at least discussion about it.
I made a related thread in the Q&A this morning before I found this thread.
I'm on the T-Mobile S8, and I do connect to a 5Ghz band. Thankfully I don't use smart network switch nor do I want my device scanning for bluetooth when I have bluetooth disabled (they say it's for "location accuracy", but it's actually for ad services).
I only disabled bluetooth scanning when bluetooth is off a few minutes before finding this thread, so I'll report back if wifi continues to drop in the coming days.

Same for me. Did you install some software update?
Well I've been messing around with this issue for hours and hours. The only solution is to set my routers to 2.4ghz because 5ghz makes this phone go crazy.
Just my 5 cents -> do this or stop wasting time until either Sammy releases a fix (doubtful) or root + custom ROMs start appearing (more likely) so a specific Dev fixes the problem.
This much money and I haveto change MY other equip to have it working.
Bah!

For those of you that are losing Wi-Fi connection and reconnecting, go into your router configuration and change the channel until you find the channel that is most reliable in your area. That's usually the main cause most of the time for disconnect issues. Change your 5Ghz channel and you most likely will find one that works fine. If the router is in "auto channel select" mode, take it out of auto and set a channel manually until you find the channel that works for your area.

is there a "wifi calling preferred" option on the Pixel 2, similar to the original?
i live in a rural area with super spotty cell coverage. when i'm home i'd rather it default to wifi calling. i have to enable airplane mode to ensure this, but seems like the original pixel had a "wifi calling preferred" option to enable. anything like that here? anything hidden that could be enabled with USB debugging?

I've tried this, but I don't see the new option. I've read this in other threads and it appears to be aimed at the original pixel. I'm not seeing this option under my wifi settings before or after the adb command. to be clear, I'm looking for this type of fix, but for the pixel 2.

Just google wifi calling preferred adb.
You should find directions on how to set it using adb. I did it and it has stuck through reboots and the December 8.1 update.
You can also do it with settings database editor in the play store but, you have to grant the program system permissions through adb first.

How can I determine if Wi-Fi Calling is active?

On my prior phone, there was a specific icon that appeared in the notification area and in the dialer when Wi-Fi Calling was active.
In the Pixel 3, I cannot find any indication of this status.
The only settings are Wi-Fi Calling on/off and Wi-Fi preferrred or Mobile preferred.
How can I confirm that Wi-Fi Calling is active before a join a one hour teleconference while roaming in another country?

On mine and my wife's P3/P3XL, when a call is in progress and WiFi is active the main call screen very clearly says WiFi Call. I am on T-Mobile. I had the OG Pixels on Verizon and T-Mobile at various points, but I honestly don't remember if it displayed anything differently while on Verizon.

I guess now that I look at the screenshot, one way would be to put the phone in airplane mode and turn on WiFi and make the call. If it goes through, you're on WiFi. If not, you aren't.

I'm on the Q beta 5 and on O2 UK network and with the status bar pulled down all the way at the top right it scrolls along saying O2 UK WiFi calling if I am connected to WiFi :good:
Edit, just noticed it says the same thing in the status bar on my lockscreen too
Dial *#*#4696#*#* then phone information, then click the three dots in the upper right, then IMS Service Status. It will tell you if it is available or not.
I found several ways to identify Wi-Fi Calling. From the lock screen (only) it will display "T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling" in the notification area.
When unlocked, the status is not available from notifications (single swipe down).
However, a second swipe down from the notifications screen (that expands the quick settings), then "T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling" is visible at the bottom in the same row as the Settings icon.
When making a call, it will indicate "Wi-Fi Call" from the dialer after the call is placed, and a short delay. When the call answers, the dialer continues to display "Calling...", then it changes to "Wi-Fi Call" after a few seconds.
There is no assistance in determining if Wi-Fi Calling is active from the dialer before placing a call. From the keypad, the green handset icon is unchanged whether or not Wi-Fi Calling is active. From Favorites or Contact there is no clue if Wi-Fi Calling is active. This is where the quick settings screen seems to be the only way.
When I posted this thread, I was in Europe. I had excellent Wi-Fi, but Wi-Fi calling never worked, so I was never able to see these status indicators.

Question Android 12 Disable 5G

Is it possible to disable 5G on the Galaxy S21+ on Android 12 & One UI 4.0? I've searched through the Android 11 method of Settings>Connections>Mobile Networks> Network Mode but apparently that has been removed all together. I couldn't find it in Dev Options either.
Could it be hidden somewhere else?
Does anyone know the ADB command?

To anyone else wondering how to do this, I ended up using an app called Samsung Band Selection to remove the use of the 5G band.
@USAMac , I have used the Samsung Band selector for some other purpose, can you detail how to remove the use of the 5G Band.
Would appreciate your time.

Happy to help. I used Samsung Band Selection straight from the Play Store. Once opened, 'Launch Band Selection'
Weird...my T-Mobile S21+ with Android 12 has this option. Settings -> Connections -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode -> "LTE/3G/2G (auto connect)"
I have to use this a lot cause 5G around here isn't that great in some places.

Maybe this was just a Verizon modification

I wanted to share with you that I ended up switching my connection type to GSM/WCDMA/LTE because in my area, even LTE is not always present. I've personally found this to be a lot more flexible in service and took away the occasional G I would see next to my signal bars. Hope this helps!
I'm also experiencing the same thing, does anyone know a solution?

I was referring to the removal of Network Mode
There's another app called Network Mode Samsung that gives greater details on what the bands mean:
GSM ALL -> 2G GSM only (GPRS/EDGE)
WCDMA ALL -> 3G WCDMA only (UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA/HSPA/HSPA+)
LTE ALL -> 4G LTE only
GSM/WCDMA -> 2G / 3G only
WCDMA/LTE -> 3G / 4G LTE only
Band Selection Mode -> Manually choose 2G/3G/4G Bands
I intentionally ordered a 4G model, but they sent me a 5G model samsung flagship. It isn't what I ordered. However, what happened was I thought I was using a safe 4G phone but after holding it a minute or two I started getting this splitting headache, and I don't get headaches. Then I looked at the About phone section and discovered they sent me a 5G model! That's not a placebo effect folks. I didn't know I was using a 5G phone until AFTER I got the symptoms - headache, fatigue, foggy brain, head pressure. All symptoms of 5G radiation. I never had any of these symptoms before.
Well this phone is going back immediately. But I did take the opportunity to test the app listed.
I installed the Samsung Band Selector app and it does allow to switch the bands. However, I'm not sure if it actually does disable 5G, I was trying to figure out a way. I didn't add in a sim card, so Signal Spy didn't work. Maybe I'll add a sim card just to check it.
But anytime I took off airplane mode the headache gets worse, in fact I am keeping this phone away from me, I don't want the 5G phone anywhere near me, I'm waiting on a return label.
