[Q] How to copy/paste between apps on S5 KitKat - General Questions and Answers

I had a Droid4 on both ICS and JB for years and don't recall this issue. I just upgraded to an GS5 this month and found that copy/paste doesn't always work (read never works as expected).
Example: Copy text from Chrome to Message+
I want to send an address of a company to someone in a text. I long press, select, copy in chrome. I then switch apps and go to Message+. In message, I long press and paste. Instead of the address, it pastes some phone number I copied at some other time.
In the last few days I noticed that sometimes I can copy text and when I go to paste it won't bring the menu up as though there's nothing in the clipboard (no context for what I was doing there, don't remember).
What am I doing wrong? This is the same process I've always used on Android so either the Galaxy is different, KitKat is different, or I'm not understanding how some of the apps on the GS5 work compared to my old D4.

The interesting thing is that if I copy the same text from Chrome and paste into a text box in the same page, I can then copy that text and paste it into Message+. That leads me to believe there's something in the copied text string that the clipboard is unhappy with pasting into Message+.

[APP] Chrome to Phone application

is quite fun.
Try it if you're running Froyo.

Love it! especially for installing apks on the phone, just right click the link in Firefox and use Send link to Android!!!
This has already been posted, several times. Please use the search function before starting a new topic.
I have a lot of hopes for the whole cloud thing (push notifications?!) but this chrome thing can be done without Froyo or a cloud etc. I have oneliner scripts on my phone and computer to send clipboard contents back and forth between the two via ssh. Copy any text on the PC and click an icon and, bang, it's in my phone's clipboard. Copy some text on the phone and tap a gscript shortcut and, bang, it's in my computer's clipboard.

Click to collapse
Not completely true. When you send a link to your phone with the extension, if you have text highlighted, it does copy it to your Android clipboard and like you said that's possible without the push server. However remember that the page/maps open automatically. It's not just sending a text link, it's sending an Android Intent. That is a very powerful tool that opens a lot of new possibilities for developers. Sending links back and forth is quite useful but it's really just a proof of concept.

[Q] What is PDU_log folder inside SD-card ?

I noticed inside my SDCard a folder named PDU_log. In there are files like sms114.pdu and so over. When i opened one of them with text editor it shows a sms that i sent. Is this a security warning ? Google gave me no answers and i found one thread in hd2 section but nothing was conclusive
Anyone? It bothers me a lot and i also noticed that if you delete the folder reappears again after reboot
What ROM are you running? I looked through everything on my SD card with Root Explorer and I don't have that folder.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
I'm running RUU_Pyramid_S_HTC_Europe_2.08.401.1_Radio_11.59.35 04.00U_11.16.3504.16_M, and i can confirm same folder on my SD. All my text messages are in that folder. It look like sms backup. BTW i deleted all my text messages in inbox, but is still have them in PDU_LOG folder. I deleted PDU_LOG folder, after reboot i have him again, this time empty
I'm running InsertCoin 3.4.6 and also have this folder on my SD-Card. The messages are stored in cleartext (with a space between each character) and the files also contain the recipient's phone number.
I would really like to know where this folder and files come from as I don't like my messages being backed up automatically without me setting this up.
pdu_log
Same here, insertcoin 3.4.6, PSU_log reappears after deleting. Sms and mms backup with phone numbers inside. I noticed a strange behavior as well, as I just deleted that folder I instantly saw a download notification in the notification area, pulled it down it was blank and disappeared shortly after... I find that very very strange.
UPDATE:
I just removed my HTC Sense account and the folder has disappeared. Based on this observation I'd say it's syncing with your HTC Sense account, for what reason, I don't know as there are no related options under the HTC account sync settings... Interesting..

[Q] Pasting Hyperlink into Phone's Email App

I need to be able to copy hyperlinked text into an email. For example, I want the word forum to link to http://www.xda-developers.com/ without having to type the whole address.
I have a Nexus 5 running 4.4.2. I can copy hyperlinked text into a NEW gmail email, and it shows up to the receiver as hyperlinked text. In other words, the receiver could click on "Forum" and it would take them to your home page. However, I need to be able to do this with my work exchange account.
I have tried MailDroid, aquamail, mail.ru, cloudmagic, k-9, enhanced email, and others that will run exchange. With some of these you can just forward the text, but I need to be able to copy and paste the hyperlinks because each message I send needs changed made. I do know what I am trying to do worked on a Samsung Galaxy s3 running (not sure if it was jellybean or ICS) Tried finding that app. Copied it to the system app folder using FX app (with root access), but it won't work--the email keeps stopping.
It is a work account so I cannot forward it to gmail.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Thank you,

[Q] Default app behavior for adding attachments

So I've been using my OPO for several months now and love it, but there's one aspect of it that I haven't been able to fix just yet. I'm not sure if this stems from moving to 4.4 from 4.2 or something rolled into the stock CM11 rom.
With my past Android phones, when I would go to attach a photo to a text message or send one via skype or another app, it would ask me for what app to use. I use quickpic as my default gallery app so I would select that as my default for that action and all was well with future attachments. With the OPO I don't get a prompt at all and instead it directs me to a "recent files" view where everything that I have recently saved or modified on the device is displayed.
Along the left side it lists all the file browsing apps and services on the device (stock gallery, G+ photos, file manager, dropbox, quickpic, etc) which I can then press and it will load that app for me to choose the file I want. I just want it to go directly into quickpic and skip all that other nonsense but I can't figure out how to make it do that.
I've reset the default apps on the device in hopes that this was some system app that was taking over, but it still does not bring up the "default app" prompt to let me choose what I want. I have attached a screenshot of what comes up.
Any ideas how to override this behavior and get back the use of my gallery app?
