PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Tell me that this is not true. I just read an article thats says in summary that in android 4.4 because of a security feature we might be loosing the ability to flash custom Roms...This frustrates me because I am getting the Nexus 5 for this exact reason (ROMS) and why Im getting rid of my I9500 S4. Please Developers tell me what you know about this. :S

I seriously hope this will not happen, because it wouldn't be Android anymore :/
Manufacturers who ship devices with locked bootloaders and with dm-verity enabled will be effectively closing the door on custom firmware installations.

Is this the case with the N5? No. You can unlock your bootloader. And whatever that other thing is, I doubt it applies to the N5...
Nope
I have not read this article. The new security features will stop you from rooting a device (using traditional methods) but any devices which can be unlocked can install custom roms and then also be rooted
Nexus devices can ALWAYS be unlocked and therefore can ALWAYS be rooted!
This is why you get a nexus device. Manufactures and especially carriers are locking down their phones to the point they're not any fun to own anymore. But nexus will always have custom roms and unlockable bootloaders
Hello, everyone!
Just wanted to tell you guys to calm down. System updates are always late.
If there is a possibility for unlocking bootloader on Sony's site, than the update will definitely be.
Even if it won't be 4.3, we will be able to create customs, such as MIUI, Cyanogenmod, or port roms from other phones.
You just dont know how to wait!
Yeah. I don't care much if there's no 4.3 update. I just want our device's bootloader can be unlocked
Totally agree with you guys. Especially now that Android 4.4 is already available for other MT6589 devices, who really needs 4.3? And now that Sony is already issuing unlock codes, hopefully the next update will result in the much awaited bootloader unlock "yes" status.

Hhmmm.....
I don't care about Android 4.3 update, what I want from Sony that they just unlock the boot loader
and then we can then create Custom Roms for Xperia C...
Hi there,
I know this May be a silly question but my iPhone 5s is getting on my last nerves and this is the only thing holding me back from ordering a Z3 today. Does anyone have any idea when the first custom roms will be out for the z3? I can't stand skinned androids (although I've never owned a Sony handset before).. I just wouldn't want to buy one and having to wait a few months for CM/PA.
Thanks for anyone who replies!

Mate what's wrong wid or iPhone by the way. One of the best phones on the market. Anyways about custom ROMs or PA/CM ROMs might come by end of Oct or Nov. No one knows but they are surely in the pipeline although I love the xperia UI which is close to stock android and the best among other OEM skins. I have come on an xperia from an iPhone. Trust me xperia is the only one phone where u would enjoy the touch sensitivity like the iPhone.

I love the iphones when they are jailbreakable but for the next forseeable months I can't see an ios 8 JB being released... I love the freedom on Android and constantly find myself going back to iPhone due to the lack of a decent camera found on any Android handsets (I've owned HTC One, S5, Note 3, S4, Nexus 5)..
You can't find a decent camera on any Android phone?
And you go to an iPhone for their cameras? Rly? Hahahaha hahaha you're funny.
Why are there almost no custom roms for this phone. The Android development section has 11 posts?
Other phones have thousands. Why is that.
I was thinking to buy one of these, but this sets me off.
Is there a root , that doen´t void warranty ?
thx

No there is no Lock Bootloader with root atm. I would guess once that is solved there will be more custom roms.

Most custom roms (CM MIUM AOKP AOSP PAC) etc require an unlocked bootloader as well as root. Unlocking the boot voids warrenty, hence the disclaimer in the OP of all their ROMS.
Root with a locked bootloader will only lead to custom roms based on stock firmware. they have more customisation than stock, but not as much as true custom roms based on another kernel.

Ok, thanks. Still , although the warranty is lost. There is still so little activity. Why is that. I just read the news, that Sony release AOSP Versions for all phones and allows the bootloaders to be unlocked. I thought that this would be a developers dream, for CM for example.
So, whats wrong with the phone. I still dont get it.
Was considering z3 went with g3 as there seems like way more dev support for LG phone and tons of LP roms in alpha beta stage.
Whats up with sony?
No one want to root because of loss of DRM keys..
And what does that mean?
thx
I'm not sure if it's a good idea to resurrect a old thread (zombies!)
but i see there are almost no custom roms for Z3 (either stock based or AOSP or something else)
the stock based are still on Kitkat.. (1 Rom)
AOSP i see only Cyanogen but with very little development (of course a pair of roms based on CM).
The freexperia project is almost non functional.
I'm not demoting the devs / modders... just not finding the root cause of this.
The Very old Samsung S3 is still getting too much love than our new phone, that has qualcomm SOC and thus, unlimited (sort of) open source development
Something is wrong with this phone or i'm missing something?
Im waiting too..

Stock is good enough.
I know stock is great. Just wonder if a modified custom ROM could squeeze the battery further. I doubt it but u never know.

It could happen, that is true, I'm sure soon Z3 will have some custom ROM's for users to play with, on it.
Is it worth to unlock bootloader?
I consider unlocking bootloader, cuz i would like to flash Cyanogenmod. Is it better than Roms based on sony's stock kernel?

I still haven`t unlocked the BL, and I don`t plan to do so anytime sooner. I flashed probably a milion phones till this day and each and every time I go back to stock. In my opinion flashing custom roms is only good for older phones, such as my girlfriend`s galaxy s1 ( yes, you read it, s1 . Custom roms breathe new life to such phones. Our z3 already has an amazing stock 5.1.1 rom and it will get the next version of android aswell, so I don`t see any need to flash cm or any other custom rom.

Listen to @Brontok please, I unlocked the bootloader of my old Xperia TX because it was old and in its last months but I wouldn't have done it if it weren't for that reason, to start the camera quality diminished considerably and the Sony features are gone... I suggest you not to, at least not for now.
no it's not, i did in my z2 and it was worse so i sold it and i bought a z3 and with lb is much better
Depends on you
If you wanna unlock ur bl it ur choice. But dont forget to take a full ta backup and storing it somewhere in the cloud if u wanna restore later. I am not the custom roms kinda guy, i prefer stock. I use a stock based rom. If u r gonna unlock the bootloader u gotta sacrifice the camera quality and other sony functions(can be restored later using backed up ta). Do some research before you unlock the bl. And good luck:good::angel:
I did it the moment I got my device. I don't care for all the functions and such of a stock ROM. Vanilla or bust in my opinion.
Supposedly our device can be bootloader unlocked right? I mean I tried going through the process on Nokia's website and it allowed me (tho I didn't go all the way cuz my device is registered and I'm afraid they'll void me the warranty as soon as they give me the unlock bootloader code) so why doesn't this device have more custom ROMs?
I sold my Mi A2 and bought this device and although its a much MUCH better device than A2, I do miss the many custom ROMs that device has available, and it baffles me because A2 and this device share most of the same specs. I know the bootloader unlocking issue WAS an issue months, if not years ago, because HMD didn't allowed it. Is there a lack of source code for the development of custom ROMs or this device doesn't interest the community what-so-ever?
There is no official way to unlock bootloader, only unoffical.
Nokia 7+ has treable support, so any a/b GSI should work.
Who would want a custom ROM on an Android One phone?

First, you may have not read a lot on our beloved XDA forums/community, otherwise you would know some better behavior. So, get some manners.
Second, usually, you wish for/use a cleaned and better responsive custom ROM to get away from bloated **** ROMs installed by phone manufacturers, but with an Android One device you do not have to. At least, I hear that is why loads of people use/buy them (including me). Unlocking the boot loader and installing Magisk is nice, but what else do you need then?

I actually prefer a more AOSP Pixel version of Android than anything else (Pixel Experience), plus Mi A2 already has a custom rom based on Android Q's beta, something this device does not have.
