Make a TWRP backup.
Flash back to stock using the provided zips.
Unlock your device.
Root your device.
Install TWRP again.
Flash your backup.

Been looking all over for this and it is not easy to find. If you find it, post a link.
Or call Metro directly. I may be doing this soon.
I know somebody has to have a stock rooted G Stylo from metro. I recently ended my employment at metro so I know longer have easy access to phones. Can someone please upload the APK?

That simple solution would be to take the earlier guys advice. It doesn't take very long and you would have been done days ago.

The simple solution isn't always simple for somebody on fixed bandwidth with no actual internet or ISP, a 2GB file is not an option for me at this point. A small APK that's mere KB's is a much better alternative. Thanks though.

I actually ended up in a hotel as of recently, so I just used the wifi while enjoying the stay. Needless to say, while being "lazy" I managed to pull the APK from the stock rom and upload it to devhost.

One problem. It doesn't seem to play well. Installation fails and I'm not quite sure how to make it work. If anyone needs anything else from me, please let me know. I made a backup of the stock rom.
We will have to see though, being that im so damn lazy.

MetroPCS Official Device Unlock APP - SOLVED
This will work if you have a un-rooted MetroPCS device
1. Please back up all your data ( any pictures, video contacts etc).
2. NOTE This step will delete all your data and wipe your phone clean - Do a factory data reset : - go to setting and search for "reset"
when your phone restarts it will load up the MetroPCS stock ROM and you will have all of the MetroPCS app suite including the official MetroPCS device unlock app.

Greetings, All.
OK was real comfortable rooting my EVO-4G, and tweaking every aspect of it. ROM installs...
But That was quite some time ago, and a completely different brand of phone than my new
[Sprint] Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900P). So I find myself a bit lost. What I'd like to do, is
make myself a backup. Before doing anything to it. You wouldn't mess with your phone
before making a backup, would you?
So I figure CWM is probably the best route to travel for this, yes? If so, what's the process?
I download ClockWorkMod, and what?
NOTE: I do not have/use Windows. So anything Windows related will not be an option.
Thank you for all your time, and consideration.

First, please edit the curse word out of the title. Curse words with symbols/letters are still curse words .
Second, since you're not on Windows, your only option is to root in Linux using heimdall(Google has tons on this). You can flash custom recovery through there. By the way, you technically don't need root to do a backup . Good luck!

I'm sorry, I meant use Google to narrow down the search XDA. Sometimes it's easier to search and put "xda" at the end in Google and find the forums you want. XDA has a good search function too, but Google is faster sometimes.

I use Philz recovery exclusively for my flashing, backup, rooting, everything. You're not using Odin(I recommend borrowing a buddy's laptop with Windows for 5 min, it's much easier than Heindall), so you'll have to research how to flash the tar through Linux, but it can be done. Here's the recovery tar. Be sure to thank @Phil3759 while you're over there. The man is a genius at building these recoveries. Good luck!

Better check before u do all your sarcastic bull****.......That's for KitKat ,not Lollipop........
1) The person you're telling to check and accusing of sarcastic bullsh*t is the OP of the linked thread.
2) Literally the very next two posts are about using the exact same method for Lollipop.
As someone once famously said, "Better check before . . . "
I did try it and it didn't work on my Lollipop...... I did check it and I did try it.... Plus I did search for my the root before I asked for help......

Every Note 4/Edge I've worked with has accepted whatever root method was used in KitKat for Lollipop. From what I've read, there may be a few models around the world that this doesn't apply to, but I haven't worked with any of those.
Mine's from India? Know anything about that? Is there a way around this?

Any chance of downgrading? I thought I saw a post somewhere about upgrading to lollipop while keeping root.
Will that work?
I'll try it out then.....
Sent from my SM-N915G using XDA Free mobile app
To be honest, I have no idea. It's just one of those threads I glanced at while looking for something else. I'm not planning on upgrading to lollipop until xposed and more support in general, so it didn't interest me at the time.
Firstly, sorry if I sounded sarcastic, there a a million+ people out there who start by just going "how do I root....." without checking and having the information stickied EVERYWHERE - been here a while & am a shift worker....
Sorry to hear it wiped your info, didn't have that problem because I always have everything backed up and start on fresh install, less problems that way...
As to getting root in KK and keeping it through a flash to Lollipop, Chainfire has a new flashing app called Flashfire that seems to be VERY good (as per all his apps) but it is a beta test you need to apply and join, you also need to be rooted.
I've used it to backup most of my data with good results but haven't felt the need to flash anything yet. It is the successor of Mobile ODIN so you will need to flash Lollipop bootloader, modem and non-hlos.bin in PC ODIN but it should be able to flash Lollipop while injecting supersu (1.46 Supersu) and keeping root.
I'd start there - Chainfire's Flashfire.
Good luck
Yes, that's what I was trying to remember. Best bet right there if normal root methods aren't working. I personally like to run towelroot, even though there's an effectively 0% chance of it doing anything, just 'cause I can

We AT&T users also lost root with 6.0, nor can we go back. Im HOPING his method may have something we can use to root our phones as well! (although I highly doubt it, as it probably had something to do with the unlocked bootloader.)
Almost at the point of doing the unthinkable and jumping to an iPhone. More and more phones are being shut out of being able to achieve root
Google translate works better with Vietnamese to Cantonese (I can read it) as they're pretty close.
Unfortunately, I don't see any clue.
Anyway, I flashed 100% stock + root using the two parts ROM from development section, and flashed root in TWRP during flashing process.
