Ladies and Gents,
THIS IS A THREAD FOR BOUNTIES AND DEVELOPER CHATTER ONLY!
**WARNING**
If you have something outside of posting a bounty amount on this thread or you are not a developer working towards our goal, I will personally see to it that the moderation team closes this thread. They already did it once and, frankly, the Devs putting time into our device don't deserve your bickering. Want to get heated off-topic, do so in a separate thread and stop ruining things for the people who care enough to be patient.
Previous Bounty Thread Here For Reference and Amount Tally
$50. For the love of god people, think before you post. You are hurting the development more than you're helping it when these threads get closed constantly.

Thanks for restarting this thread. I understand people frustration but it needs to stay out of these threads. I come here for updates on progress only. I bought phone, I failed to wait until I was completly happy with the root situation. The developers here are busy working many devices. To many people are ungrateful, I apprecite the work of all developers, many spend countless hours of their own time to appease individuals that really dont care about their scrafise. Put me down for $25.00.
$250.. If it happens in the month of April, $400. Bootloader unlock only.
$100 for unlocked bootloader
$100.00 for root or unlock.

Alright - this here is the line in the sand.
If anybody else posts anything other than a bounty pledge, this thread is closed.
If that ain't clear, ain't nothing clear. Carry on.
25 for unlock ?

I originally had $30 for universal bootloader unlock or root but I am upping it to $100 for either if universal.
$50 for unlocked bootloader and $25 for root.

Dont know if this is helpful at all. I am not terribly familiar everything "under the hood" so to speak. But this was just released a couple days ago for the Note 4. I am curious if it is of any use for the s7(edge variant)?
Scratch that, this is post root, which we dont have yet. Apologies
@Binary100100 posted something interesting here http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/help/leaked-cert-files-root-t3362922

I am willing to give a reward of a bonafide Windows 8 Pro x86/x64 retail license to the person who successfully solves the problem of getting the G2X Qualcomm mdm6600 radio/modem fully working with the CM10.1 or stock LG ICS kernel or the kernel that is being worked on by AdamPK, Mazout360, etc. If I determine that more than one person has made a significant contribution to achieving that, I will give the same reward to them too. But, before I make that official, I want opinions about doing that.
Edit:
The code required to achieve success must be fully documented and publicly available to enable others to use it successfully too.
UPDATE
The poll ended overwhelmingly in favour of me rewarding development which gets the Qualcomm mdm6600 modem/radio working fully with an ICS/CM9/JB/CM10.1 ROM and Kernel.
There's no expectation or obligation of anyone to accept the reward of a bonafide Windows 8 Pro x86/x64 license for accomplishing the development goal.
The reward will be awarded after the goal is accomplished which is proven by the full/complete operation of the G2X and its Qualcomm mdm6600 radio/modem with an ICS/CM9/JB/CM10.1 ROM and Kernel and the submission, to me, of documentation of the method used, in the form of fully commented source code which can be understood by a person competent in the programming language used so that it can be used for verification and for further development.
If there is a dispute as to who ultimately accomplished the goal of getting the Qualcomm mdm6600 modem/radio working fully with an ICS/CM9/JB/CM10.1 ROM and Kernel, it will be resolved by examination of relevant documentation which I will use to determine the reward recipient(s). If more than one person, determined by me exclusively, contributed substantially to achieving the goal, each of those persons will be eligible to receive the same reward. If anyone who is eligible to receive the reward doesn't want it they may forego receiving it.

This won't incentivize cooperation which looks necessary to me.

im about ready to just buy another g2x and send tonyp my old one lol
In another phone section [Galaxy S Blaze] everyone chipped in to buy a developer a phone. I would totally do it for a seasoned developer who can likely fix the radio issue. A G2x isn't really that expensive.

i agree. they go for around 150 on craigslist, so if we had 6 people donate $25 just one time out of their friday paycheck, we might be able to really get somewhere with our phone developmentally, AND we could say we did it as a community which i think would be pretty freakin cool.:good:

Does anyone know

I suppose that, if the developer is already doing it, but they don't have a G2X such as tonyp, they would welcome getting one to enable them to do their development much more easily. I think tonyp well deserves getting a G2X for his effort. I don't know about anyone else who doesn't have a G2X who is contributing as much as he has and still is. Wouldn't it be helpful to ask him and, if he wants one, easiest to donate to him directly so that he can buy the phone? I am certain that, if that happened, he would be very pleased.
Unfortunately you can't count me in. I'm lacking the time and probably kernel knowledge to do that.
You need someone who got deep Linux kernel experience and skills.
Btw, offering someone like that a windows license is a little strange
(and just to brag about it: I got plenty of free win 8 licenses thanks to Microsoft MSDN aa ).
A potential dev has to have the phone. It won't work without one, that would take way more time.
The problem with donating a phone upfront is that it introduces expectations. If the dev fails it's always a bad feeling for both sides, that's why there are many devs who don't really like receiving phones.

Offering a Windows 8 license isn't that strange even in the Android/Linux community as many use Windows for some purposes that Android/Linux don't fulfil. The reward wouldn't be given until it was "earned". (And, also, but not to brag about it, I was also a member of MSDNAA but I've retired from that now.)
Kernel development/hacking is very difficult so anyone who would do it would have to have the phone anyway so getting the phone one already owns isn't an incentive. You're correct about giving a phone upfront implies that there is the expectation of a beneficial payback to whomever donates the phone which is a good reason not to give one and not to want one.
I am still committed to the reward I am considering offering. So far, the majority are in favour of it. When the poll is over, I will do what the majority wants.
We'd probably need some dev who already works for LG or some other company to get the radio working.. or as stated before, some who understands android coding extremely well such.

I was reading along the Internet and found the CEO's of AT&T email address. I took the liberty of composing my thought to him on this plague of locked bootloaders. Here is what I said:
Hello, my name is Mike. I'm composing this email in disappointment with AT&T wireless. Currently I bought a Galaxy S4 and started a new contract. And now I am having thoughts on terminating my service. Why would one do this you may ask and I'm willing to give you an answer and a request. Android was developed as an OPEN source development project, and Samsung has always been up for that with every device I have owned, so samsung is not at fault here. Recently I got an update that locked the bootloader on my device. This has made myself and many others in the development community highly upset and disappointed in AT&T because we know that this decision was made at your company's discretion. In the development community we thrive on Android. With every new android device and software version we are given a template. A template to brainstorm and develop a unique expression of what Android has to offer. We can make it our own and unleash the potential of our devices. That is what Android is all about, that is why it is an OPEN source project. I understand there are a vast majority of customers who do not care about whether their bootloader is locked or not, but there is a very large margin of developers who do care. We have a community to provide to. The community that wants something more from their device. To personalize their device. Customers spend a large portion of money on these devices. I myself paid 700 for mine. With spending that much money I think we deserve to have the right to do what we wish with our phones. Just like buying a new computer, the manufacturers don't tell you what you can and can't do with it. We understand that changing a phones system voids warranty. And we are willing to take that risk. I speak on behalf of the development community. Unlock our bootloaders. Do not make us switch to another service provider for our goals and spread the word of how a company takes the right we have that android gives us away. Thank you for your time and I hope to see change in the near future.
It seems like a shot in the dark but who knows we may just get lucky. I'm trying to make a change. Free our Androids! This is a link that may help. It's a petition and I understand that it's already posted on the forums but repetition will reach the goal. It's only about 67 signatures off to being completed so get this out here and FREE OUR ANDROIDS!

Unlocked bootloader = easy modifications to system = your data at risk = a vast majority of corporate byod users don't buy your phone = lost money
Unlocked bootloader = happy devs and tech savvy ppl = only a very very very tiny portion of their customer base = they don't care!

I agree with the second paragraph.
But this line of the first paragraph "Unlocked bootloader = easy modifications to system = your data at risk" I don't. YES it could if those with unlock bootloader could load something onto their phone that is malicious. But that can happen with locked bootloaders. Locked bootloader just doesn't allow having root as easy, allow modification that would allow you to switch carriers as easy (unlocking for free the Sim lock), allow for using custom Roms and help stupid people that cannot read or follow directions so as to not brick their phone. It has nothing to do with making the phone safer. As I said it COULD when users don't understand what they are putting on their phone. Basically ATT /Verizon don't want easy deleting of the apps so they can get paid for their crappy apps that cannot be deleted fully. They don't want users who screwed up and bricked their phone returning them. I can see their point of view as to returned bricked phones. But they SHOULD allow users to CHOOSE to unlock the bootloader which will void the warranty at their own risk (and maybe after it is paid off so people don't stop paying for their phone or anything after they screw it up).

I think this is their master plan. Their making it so hard to root that at&t and samsung are just making us get worn out waiting for root. Eventually people won't care anymore and just put up with all their bloat and tactics turning us into sheep like the apple people are. I am even getting wore out checking 7 times a day in these threads only to hear of all the ways that don't work to root. There is a 12K bounty to be paid. U think that someone would spend every second trying to root to get 12K. Something is up with this. Maybe they were contacted and paid more not to do this. If there is a way they can PM me it and I will post it and give them the bounty so they don't get in trouble.

You make it seem like a 12k bounty is a ton of money for someone who has to put in hundreds of hours of effort to look for an exploit. You have to realize the people capable of doing this probably isn't sitting at home without other sources of income most likely exceeding the dollar per hour gain from the bounty searching for an exploit.
I get that you are just venting but this doesn't contribute much. Yeah, it is their plan. Once rooting was deemed legal by the FCC they knew they would have to make it much harder to achieve root. The phone has been out for what a month? Most of the devs on here have families and jobs. This is what they do in their spare time. If this phone can't be rooted I won't buy it and I'd advise anyone else to do the same. If enthusiastic users like all of us don't buy unrootable devices maybe it will send a message. Probably not, but maybe.

Ok....if they dedicate 1 month..it's 12k.. the ratio to a year would be 144k...if you make that then great but 80% of America doesnt. I get your point they have other careers and family..I'm just saying..most every other phone has been rooted. All other variety of the S5 even before they got released except Verizon and att werent. I get your point. Just saying.

I think a bigger issue is everyone whining and complaining about this whole root problem and the devs who work on stuff like this are not really giving a rat's a$$ as much because they're not getting respect and being pressured too much by these whiners.
We all just need to wait patiently and respectfully. People ARE working on this, they just aren't giving updates because if they give the tiniest of updates, again, the whiners and other people are going to be then asking a million more questions about their new find.
Yeah, 12k is a lot, but as stated above, this is dev's hobbies, not their job, and with how rooting is becoming more difficult, a lot of them don't think it's worth the time, hassle and effort just to be treated like crap by the people on here who have done nothing but constantly ask for updates while not contributing. And besides, the bounty is just a verbal agreement. They'll be lucky that 75%+ will even fully pay out.

another pointless posting lol. stop trolling the forums. of course they dont want us rooting our phone and of course there are ppl working on it.. not everyone cares about money n last i checked the bounty was up to 15k not 12k.. just wait like everyone else and see what happens.. we will get root eventually im sure but might not be tomorrow lol

Guys, take a break on the topic for a bit. I'm locking this thread as well.
This was posted in another thread but I don't think many people saw it because it didn't have its own thread and a lot of people asked for it to have its own thread. It's been a while and no one else went ahead to make a new thread so I thought I might as well do it.
Here's the link below. Go to it and sign the petition, share with friends and family and all that etc etc.
https://www.change.org/p/federal-co...-circumventing-security-ver?just_created=true
It's pretty unlikely that this will make a difference as they've been doing this for a while with no penalty but its worth a shot. If enough people sign it we could at least get some attention towards this. So for the love of Android (and our hate for Verizon) take a minute and sign this and get as many people to sign it as possible even if your not a Verizon s6 user help some fellow Android users out.

That sounds like it would be a good idea. Do you know how to do that? The nice thing about change.org is it gets a bunch of people to sign it and back you so there's a greater chance of it being heard. But it there's a way to make a direct complaint that could be better though they may just ignore it.

Unfortunately I have never submitted a complaint so I dont know the process. This is all i could found : https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us
I am giving away a new S7edge to a developer of my choice to work on and create root/unlock for the snapdragon version.
If you feel you are competent enough to provide root for this device then send me a PM.
If you feel you know a dev that can do it if they had the device in hand then post their name here in this thread or send me a PM. In the end I choose who gets it based on their background. I will pay for shipping, etc for the developer of choice. All I ask is for you to work diligently on this device.
This device is the future of locked, unrootable devices. The sooner we get through this barrier the better for the sake of all future devices. This isn't the end, only the beginning.
There will be no developer bashing in this thread and will have this thread closed immediately if it happens.
Taking one for the team. Thank you.

Please, if you are going to do this, make sure it goes to a developer with a real track record of finding vulnerabilities and successfully exploiting them. There are not a lot of us, but there are a lot that like to pretend, I've seen threads like this where the same pretender ended up with multiple phones, and was just selling them on swappa immediately then claiming they bricked them.
If you want a review of candidates, I'm more than willing to do so privately with the OP.
If OP runs into an issue with this thread, he can report it or let me know and ill take care of it myself.

Lol i was really hoping you would consider but I will definitely be calling for your opinion when I collect more names. Its hard to dev for a device that one does not own. I hope some talented XDA members will step forward to the challenge. I really feel it will be a difficult task but I think it's something we all need to work on being this may be the start and future of unrootable devices. I hope they step forward now as they may face the issue in the near future. I appreciate your concern and hope to speak with your on your recommendation in the final decision.
