In Camera, with the save location set to SD, I get a "Picture save failed" message when I try to take a picture,. The thumbnail shows up in the gallery shortcut in the bottom left, but nothing happens when I tap on it.
In ES File Explorer and Solid Explorer, I cannot write to or delete any folders or files from the SD card.
TitaniumBackup cannot create backups to SD card.
Has anyone else had this issue and/or know how to fix it?

What you can first try is to fix your permissions in TWRP, if you have it flashed. It is in Advanced > Fix Permissions > Drag slider.
If that doesn't work, then you'll have to re-format your microSD card. I'd recommend taking it out of the phone and formatting it to FAT32 on the computer first, then put it back into the phone and let Android format it again.

Under Advanced, I do not have Fix Permissions. I have:
Copy Log, Fix Contents
(nothing), File Manager
Terminal, Reload Theme
ADB Sideload, (nothing)
I'd prefer not to format my SD card again if I don't have to. I formatted it once already in the Pure XL because it couldn't read it when I took it out of my Note 4.

EDIT: I flashed 2.8.6.0 and fixed permissions. I am now able to write to the SD card. Thank you for your help!

It shouldn't AFAIK. Give it a shot to fix the permissions since you don't want to re-format.
EDIT: Gratz on fixing it!

Trust me I searched and now I'm tired and need some help.
I had my sd card filled with junk files so I cleaned the sd up.
Before doing this I was able to:
- power phone down
- press down volume key and power buton.
- phne would boot up and I had the option to choose RECOVERY.
- once in recovery I got the evo icon and triangle and exclamation.
- I than pressed the up volume key and power button.
- I than got choices were I would choose APPLY SDCARD:update.zip
NBow here's the problem! When I choose that I now get an error saying NO SUCH FILE EXISTS. Before the sd cleanup when I chose that I got option to install roms and do other things.
I copied EVERY update.zip file and update file I found on my PC to the root of the sd card and NONE work.
Can you guys please link me to the right file?
Thanks In Advance!!!!

What section should it be in? General?
Make sure you named the file correctly. You do not rename it to "update.zip" because it already adds the ".zip" file extension to the back. Just name the folder "update". I made this mistake, so I'm thinking you may have done the same thing.
yeah..maybe general, but I'd suggest using ROM Manager from the market..it puts a recovery there for ya

Thanks for that. I tried it but it tells me an error occured while attempting to run privilaged command. Its like my phone got un rooted!
I will wait for this thread to be moved were its suppose to be.
My guess would be that your microSD is corrupt. Assuming you're running Windows, pull any files you need off the card and save them, then re-format the card with:
FAT32 (default)
quick format
4096 bytes
Once the card has been reformatted, put your files back on and try it again.

Hi everyone, looking for a little guidance.
Phone: Android G1 (Rogers Canada Dream) running Cyanogen 4.2.15.1, been running fine since 4.2.6.1
Removed SD card while it was on and it rebooted... when it restarted it showed no applications and said the SD card was inaccessible and required a format. After rebooting a few times with no success I bit the bullet and formatted it... all apps are gone except for the ones that are on that image for Cyanogen. I have no market app to download new apps and when I plug it into my PC and mount it I don't see it show up as a drive like it did so I have no way to get the apps back on.
Has anyone had this happen before? Phone still works but I need to get it back to a state where I can get access to the SD and install the market... Any suggestions appreciated!!
There is a thread on the HERO section of Modaco site called "no adb, no sd". I think the 1st post on the last page MIGHT help. There are adb commands you can run to see if the phone has randomly stopped accessing the SD. Worth a shot.
PM me if you have trouble finding the thread n I'll have a look when I'm at my laptop.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
I misunderstood I think.
So it is now showing an sd present? Have you tried formatting in a pc?
Tried reboot without the sd in, then insert once fully booted again?
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
I remove the SD Card, formatted it in my PC put it back in the phone and I can store pics and vids on it and access them but cant see or access it from the PC when in the phone. I also have no file browser so I cant install any apps or even access the market icon is gone).

Hi there! I had posted on the forum with the G1 issue where my SD card seemed to have died.

I have since removed the SD card and reformatted it, I can store pics and vids and replay them so the card is fine. I tried letting it boot up then adding the SD card when booted, that caused it to reboot, same issue...
Not having access to the card, I cant install any apps or browse the SD to install from there... really sucks
I'd be willing to blow it away and restart too and install CyanogenMod-5.0.8 but I need some guidance.

I got your message pal....
Ok,.... So pictures and videos taken with your phone camera DO save to your SD?.... and you CAN access them on your phone OR if you put your SD into your PC/Lappy?... But not when trying to "mount SD"?
Or have I got that completely wrong?.... Did you put pics&vids onto it through your PC, and thats the only access you get to it?

Pics taken DO save to me SD. I Can access them from a PC is I remove the SD and put it in the PC. Not when I plug the phone in via USB then tell it to mount.
I just did a low level format, same issue.
UPDATE: Just tried the Android System Recovery and Toggle USB-MS and it shows on my laptop now! Going to try the recovery backup now.
aha,... so its just a mounting issue, not that the hardware has turned itself off.
Once when using an older ROM (maybe Villain 10?) we had this same issue, not able to mount SD,... going into Settings --> Connect to PC --> and turning off Notify/ask me solved the problem.
I just partitionned it using:
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
print (to verfiy we know what size card we are dealing with, the details should be straight forward)
rm 1
rm 2
mkpartfs primary fat32 0 7500
mkpartfs primary ext2 7500 7948
quit
upgrade_fs
reboot recovery
Then put CyanogenMod-5 For Dream/Magic on the SD and renamed it update.zip
I'm in Android System recovery now and just did a nandroid backup.
I should be able to WIPE then FLASH UPDATE IMAGE right?

Yes, if you have the ROM image on the SD Card (FAT32 partition), you can go flash the image.

If your contacts are saved in the phone's memory, then yes. Any settings, apps, configurations that are stored on the phone will all be gone.
A wipe pretty much gives you the factory settings. (As if you just bought the phone) So you'll have to re-signin into your Google Account and let the Contacts Sync, etc..
EDIT: Depending on what you are flashing (flashing and wiping are two different things), you may not even need to wipe.
Hmmm I tried flash update image and got:
E: Cant open /sdcard/update.zip (No such file or directory)
When I mount it in system recovery I see the LOST.DIR and update.zip

Try this:
-Confirm the Image-
1) Make sure you have the full image you are going to flash. (Compare MD5 Hashes and/or just redownload the image)
2) Make sure the image you are flashing is the in the ROOT directory of your SDCard. In other words, it shouldn't be in any folder.
-Flash the Image-
1) When in Recovery, choose to flash an image.
2) Depending on what recovery you have, you may have to select/find the Image you want to flash.
3) Flash the image
-Wipe (Depends)-
1) If you are coming from a different ROM base (ie anything -> cyan), you'll want to wipe.
2) After the phone successfully flashes the image, wipe the phone.
Reboot.
Let me know how it goes.
I pulled the new image from: Latest version: 5.0.8-DS - 06/19/2010
Download: http://cyanogen-upda...8-DS-signed.zip
but it says no such file or DIR... weird...
The only partition I can see on my PC to put it on is the main partition...
I just downloaded the file and renamed it update.zip

I just realized the main reason that you posted this topic. From what I am assuming, either:
a) Your SD Card reader is dead
b) The software isn't recognizing the SD Card reader.
Best bet at this point is to setup ADB (ADB For Dummies) and flash the image from your computer. It can get a slight bit complicated, but just slowly go through each step for installing ADB.
Once ADB is set up, you can flash the image from the computer.

The SD card reader in my phone? It has to work if I can read an write to it ( tested photos and videos) and in recovery I was able to make a backup.
If its the software I need to flash it then right? ADB does make me nervous as I only used it once... I just tried using the terminal emulator on the phone to flash a recovery image I had made while back:
cd /sdcard
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-backup.img
and got the message "error writing recovery: Permission denied"

If you can view the pictures that you saved on the SD card from the phone, then both the software and hardware are functioning correctly.
Regarding the permission denied:
1) What happens if you "su - " in terminal?
2) First try one(1) ^ and then try to reinstate the permissions. (In recovery, go to console and type : fix_permissions)
Not sure otherwise.

Hi All.
I'm new to this and trying to install my first rom (aiming for cynagenmod 7- it has the language support i need, or so they say)
I rooted my phone and followed a yourtube video titled "How To Install CyanogenMod 7 Nightly on T-Mobile G2x after Nandroid Backup"
When i get to the part where i need to install zip from sd card, i can't find the file. I went back and copied the zip file into a few different folders, and although i can locate the folders, it tells me that the file cannot be found.
How do i get around this? Your help is much appreciated.

How did you download it? Through rom manager or from the phones xda app, browser? Look in folders with xda or rom manager?? Next time just copy and paste it to the root of the sdcard, not in a folder.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Downloaded it on a computer and then copied it to sd card
and you can't find where you put it? did you place it in a certain folder already created... you can plug your phone in to pc then enter recovery mode, go to storage and mounts at the bottom select mount usb then copy the zip to your sdcard in no folders.
When i try to do that t tells me unable to write to ums lunfile (no such file or directory).
From recovery mode there are some folders i can't see when i browse the folders on the computer when the phone is booted up normally - and vice versa. Is this an indicaiton of a problem?
Silly question: do you actually have an SD card inserted in your phone? If so, what did you use to format it?
i do have an sd, and i actually didn't format it. should i format? if so, what is the best way?

Did you try, while in recovery, taking the back off your phone, pop out the sd card, wait 1 second, then pop it back in?
Stupid question, but it's a mistake some beginners make, but did you unzip it by any chance? That could be a reason CWM isn't seeing it. Once you DL the ROM you need to leave it untouched. Then place on SD.
After that in CWM go to choose zip from sd.
And you attained CWM via NVFlash correct?

Maybe you accidentally copied it to internal memory instead of the sdcard. You can check in cwm under internal sdcard I believe is what it is called.
When you connect the phone through USB it mounts both internal and the sdcard.

you may have put it on the "internal sd card" instead of external sd card, however this is not an issue if you flash CWM 5.0.2.0 or later, it has an option to install zip from internal sd and external. i renamed my external sd card to avoid future confusion (otherwise i see two "removable disks" when i plug my phone into my computer)
Check your file names on your SD card. Check what you see listed in Recovery. If you see differing file names, then you're accessing the wrong memory.
I'm going to assume you tried booting with the physical buttons. Try booting with CWM which should give you a blue menu.
i did try to boot both ways and both times i did not find it... for the millionth time i took the sd card out and put it back in and rebooted using cwm, and funny enough, it found the direcotry... and yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, cynagenmod7 is my new rom
thanks for all your help, support and commiseration... really, much appreciated. i do ve a few more issues that i have to research now... again, external sd not found though... will probably solicit more help
again, thanks

Don't unzip the file. When you flash anything via clockwork, it flashes using .zip files.

I rooted my Samsung GT-S7580, following the tutorial on this forum, everything went ok. After rooting I wanted to use an app called GL to SD (tried FolderMount first but it didnt work due to some faulty thing) after I opened it it said that it needed to change some folder/files issues and rebooted.
Now I can;t access "device storage" anymore, can't install anything. If I plug in the USB cable all I can see is the external sd card and Phone 127MB/128MB but if I open it's empty. I cant copy anything to either locations. Same thing with the phones file explorer I can only access the external sd card, if I click "Device Storage" it's empty for a second then it backs up.
I did a factory rest ... same thing. Please tell me there is a way to fix this and I didn't just make my phone a paper weight.
I can still use odin and android recovery system.

Iif this isn't a Note 3 (N9005) you aren't going to get any help here...
Each device has its own way to root and different recovery. If you flashed something from this forum in all likelyhood you have (possibly) bricked your phone...
My suggestion would be to find your stock rom and flash that... Then (hope you backed up) wipe everything and try again...
I used a tutorial for my phone model and like I said the rooting went fine. I was able to install and uninstal apps, even rebooted it a few times. The problem was after that gl to sd app did something to my file system. Most things still work, I'm on it right now. It seem that I can't access its internal memory

I would do that, if I could find some place to download gl to sd apk .. I can't install using google play and seems all links lead there.
EDIT: The newest version I could find (2.2.0) only has "move data". "Show mounted folders", "Purchase PRO" and "Setting" under those 3 dots and none of these show a restore setting or any mounted folders.
Please update v2.2.22
Only new version has this feature.

I have the same problem, but the system writes "Not enough memory to install applications". Installed via Google Play, through the apk files - nothing works. Does anyone know what exactly this program is changing? I am excruciated wildly. I do not want to reflash the phone.
I have Samsung Maxx GenxDroid7, which has very low internal memory (<200 MB). I have an external micro SD card of 16 GB, but still couldn't install many apps due to insufficient internal memory.
I read on the Internet that if I modify vold.fstab and replace the word "sdcard" with "sdcard2" then my external SD card will act as internal memory.
So I rooted my phone and installed Superuser, but I haven't installed ClockworkMod recovery or any other custom ROM yet.
Problem Description:
I installed ES File explorer on my SD card and allowed root access to it via Superuser. I then went to /system/etc/ from ES file explorer, edited vold.fstab and replaced the word sdcard with sdcard2.
When I restarted my phone the external SD was no longer accessible. ES File Explorer is also gone, so I cannot undo the change that i did. I tried installing ES again from my data connection, but the installation fails (and the phone reboots immediately). I am not able to install any new apps.
I am unable to access my external SD card, so I can't put anything there via PC or via recovery. I tried pressing the power button +Volume down to go into system recovery mode. I see only these options
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
When I try to select the second option, it says "installation aborted" as the SD card is not accessible. I tried to select the 3rd and 4th options, but that didn't help either - I think factory reset will not reset vold.fstab.
I only have the default apps and Superuser now. I somehow need to find a way to get write permission to /system/etc or to /system/etc/vold.fstab.
Can someone let me know how I can edit this file again? I don't have an original vold.fstab

I think the best idea is to ask the person that wrote the guide you followed in the first place how to reverse what you did.
