Hey Guys Please Help - EVO 4G Android Development

Trust me I searched and now I'm tired and need some help.
I had my sd card filled with junk files so I cleaned the sd up.
Before doing this I was able to:
- power phone down
- press down volume key and power buton.
- phne would boot up and I had the option to choose RECOVERY.
- once in recovery I got the evo icon and triangle and exclamation.
- I than pressed the up volume key and power button.
- I than got choices were I would choose APPLY SDCARD:update.zip
NBow here's the problem! When I choose that I now get an error saying NO SUCH FILE EXISTS. Before the sd cleanup when I chose that I got option to install roms and do other things.
I copied EVERY update.zip file and update file I found on my PC to the root of the sd card and NONE work.
Can you guys please link me to the right file?
Thanks In Advance!!!!

What section should it be in? General?

Make sure you named the file correctly. You do not rename it to "update.zip" because it already adds the ".zip" file extension to the back. Just name the folder "update". I made this mistake, so I'm thinking you may have done the same thing.

yeah..maybe general, but I'd suggest using ROM Manager from the market..it puts a recovery there for ya

Thanks for that. I tried it but it tells me an error occured while attempting to run privilaged command. Its like my phone got un rooted!
I will wait for this thread to be moved were its suppose to be.

My guess would be that your microSD is corrupt. Assuming you're running Windows, pull any files you need off the card and save them, then re-format the card with:
FAT32 (default)
quick format
4096 bytes
Once the card has been reformatted, put your files back on and try it again.

what did u name the file when u put it on the storage card
update.zip
try naming the zip file "update"
extracted or in zip format?
leave it in zip format
now comes back ... after cd/sdcard
"not found"
Go here.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443713 Download from where it says "here" Leave it in zip format name it update.zip and place it on ur storage card n try again
clearly it is not seeing the card let alone the file correct.. but when i plug in the usb to the lap top or use the card holder for the micro on the laptop it sees the laptop sees all the files on the card...
by the way if it is at least at the point of trying to find the card in the terminal emmulator am i at root.... i know this might sound like a stupid question but then again.. look at the number of posts i have...
thanks for your help
at this point it is the principal to accomplish this.... hours working on this and going strong..
trying your update file... while doing that i have a question again..
does it matter that this phone is still... rc19
also... i am using my laptop card reader to place files on the card .. i assume that is not an issue..
thank s
Try moving the file to your sdcard with the card in your phone. Meaning, plug your phone into your computer and transfer the file over. Then unplug the phone from the computer and try the update again.
did it and still no luck..
keeps saying... cd/sdcard; not found
i have been at this all day... there must be some easy ansswer to all this pain
it is not seeing the card..
maybe it is the emulator
but when i do the code to see if i have the img going it comes back with a 1
real quick.... r u sure ur sd card is discoverable in ur settings ?
You have the recovery image installed. I said this over at androidcommunity, but I think the problem is with your sdcard...I think a different card may fix your issue.
it looks like it is trying to install from card but cant... when i do the power on and hold the home key and then do alt+l..then alt+s ... i get
a few statements the last is E:cant open / sdcard/update.zip
no such directory
installation aborted..
maybe i should create a file sdcard and place theupdate file in it.?

What he was suggesting was to take the sdcard out and create a dir named sdcard on the phone and stick the update in there...then when he reboots and does the update the phone would pull the file from there...but after thinking about it...the boot.img would erase it upon shutdown..I believe..anyways it wouldn't work that way....

Forgot to delete PG58IMG.zip & need help!

I forgot to delete the PG58IMG.zip & my device when entering recovery wants to update that zip file & I can't choose the recovery option. My device will not go past the HTC screen. I have ADB installed, how can I get into recovery again & re-flash a rom? I'm a newbie so please forgive me if this is already posted somewhere, I did search but I'm freaking out a little about the current state of my phone! Thanks for your help!
if you can still use the phone i'd go in and use the phone in usb storage mode and delete the file from the root directory
I can't get past the white HTC screen. I can get into recovery but it tries to install the PG58IMG.zip before I can key down to the recovery option.

Pretty simple, remove your memory card and boot your phone.
Or use a card reader to remove the file.
Cheers.
or do what he said lol
I just realized that but when trying to to read the card on my PC it ask to format? Won't that delete the files I need? I can get into recovery when taking the SD Card out but it needs the files to flash. Any help? Should I do a data/factory reset?

Just delete the PG58IMG.zip.
I will not show me the files on the SD Card! It's asking me to format to use?

[Q] Can't find zip in recovery mode when trying to install rom

Hi All.
I'm new to this and trying to install my first rom (aiming for cynagenmod 7- it has the language support i need, or so they say)
I rooted my phone and followed a yourtube video titled "How To Install CyanogenMod 7 Nightly on T-Mobile G2x after Nandroid Backup"
When i get to the part where i need to install zip from sd card, i can't find the file. I went back and copied the zip file into a few different folders, and although i can locate the folders, it tells me that the file cannot be found.
How do i get around this? Your help is much appreciated.

How did you download it? Through rom manager or from the phones xda app, browser? Look in folders with xda or rom manager?? Next time just copy and paste it to the root of the sdcard, not in a folder.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Downloaded it on a computer and then copied it to sd card
and you can't find where you put it? did you place it in a certain folder already created... you can plug your phone in to pc then enter recovery mode, go to storage and mounts at the bottom select mount usb then copy the zip to your sdcard in no folders.
When i try to do that t tells me unable to write to ums lunfile (no such file or directory).
From recovery mode there are some folders i can't see when i browse the folders on the computer when the phone is booted up normally - and vice versa. Is this an indicaiton of a problem?
Silly question: do you actually have an SD card inserted in your phone? If so, what did you use to format it?
i do have an sd, and i actually didn't format it. should i format? if so, what is the best way?
Your help is much appreciated

Did you try, while in recovery, taking the back off your phone, pop out the sd card, wait 1 second, then pop it back in?
Stupid question, but it's a mistake some beginners make, but did you unzip it by any chance? That could be a reason CWM isn't seeing it. Once you DL the ROM you need to leave it untouched. Then place on SD.
After that in CWM go to choose zip from sd.
And you attained CWM via NVFlash correct?

no, didn't unzip, left it as cm_p999_full-201.zip
and yes, did get the CWM via NVFlash
Maybe you accidentally copied it to internal memory instead of the sdcard. You can check in cwm under internal sdcard I believe is what it is called.
When you connect the phone through USB it mounts both internal and the sdcard.

My file explorer sees it in both the root and the folder I created in the root - both can't be seen in recovery mode.
Should i list the directories i see in both views?
In cwm are you selecting install zip from sdcard or install update from sdcard

you may have put it on the "internal sd card" instead of external sd card, however this is not an issue if you flash CWM 5.0.2.0 or later, it has an option to install zip from internal sd and external. i renamed my external sd card to avoid future confusion (otherwise i see two "removable disks" when i plug my phone into my computer)
Check your file names on your SD card. Check what you see listed in Recovery. If you see differing file names, then you're accessing the wrong memory.
I'm going to assume you tried booting with the physical buttons. Try booting with CWM which should give you a blue menu.
i did try to boot both ways and both times i did not find it... for the millionth time i took the sd card out and put it back in and rebooted using cwm, and funny enough, it found the direcotry... and yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, cynagenmod7 is my new rom
thanks for all your help, support and commiseration... really, much appreciated. i do ve a few more issues that i have to research now... again, external sd not found though... will probably solicit more help
again, thanks

Don't unzip the file. When you flash anything via clockwork, it flashes using .zip files.

Need Help!! Wiped phone in TWRP, but install zip wasn't on phone! No backups!

Hello everyone! I just downloaded and moved an install zip of a ROM to my sd card using root explorer. Problem is I had wiped everything beforehand in recovery without confirming that the zip was on my sd card! I was sure it was on there as I had done this many times before, but I couldn't find it using TWRP.
How can I fix this? I have an sd reader but it doesn't support sdhc

I swear I looked everywhere, but I'll double check. Is this an issue with TWRP? I never had a problem like this with CWM.
So how do I boot into recovery with the phone off now?

So frustrating! I know that the damn zip is on there somewhere, but I can't see it! I checked data/media and found TWRP, but no zip. You found the zip on the external card in data/media and not the internal storage correct? Any other suggestions that I can try other than getting a compatible sd card reader/adapter?

Where did you put the file?
I found it on the internal storage as thats where I had my file.
did you use the file manager function in advanced to look for it?
and in the future make a folder called 3 and put all flash-able zips in it
i use the 3 becuz recovery has numbers at the top of the list
I always download and move the zip to the root of my sd with root explorer before I flash. Never had any problems until using TWRP. Not saying it's not my fault for not making a backup first, but something screwy is going on with it. I'll be going back to CWM.
If you can't find it... Download the file on your computer... Connect to your phone computer as disk drive... Transfer the file into a recognized folder and then flash it...

yes I used the file manager, but didn't find anything. I think what happened was that the zip was on internal storage and was erased when I wiped. Not sure how it was in internal storage because I'm almost positive I moved it to the root of sd before booting into recovery. I could be wrong though.

I've never used TWRP but from the recovery you should be able to mount your phone/ sd card to your computer and transfer files... might be called mount and storage or something close to that...
I know enough to get me into his predicament!
I used this to root (don't think I used Odin with that), but I do remember messing with it for something else as I do have it installed. So I'm no expert as you can tell!

ok go to the link above download Odin (extract to the folder) and the root66 tar
put them in a folder on your desktop
put your phone in download mode and plug in cable
(Turn off Phone
Hold down Volume Down + Power + Home Button
Press Volume Up when Prompted after the security warning)
Open up ODIN
Put the stock.vzw_root66.tar in the PDA section
Select box: Auto Reboot
it will take awhile "do not unplug" wait for it to say pass it will reboot on its own

You should use the CWM 6.0.1.0 version. Also, the best idea is to use a secondary SD card, not the internal storage. You will notice that in the recovery, the option names are wrong. The one that says "external" is actually your internal storage.

Here is what worked for me. I got a lot of help from a lot of people on this site, so I want to share the knowledge.
I downloaded two files (which are attached to this post).
Put both files on your EXTERNAL SD CARD. If you don't have one, get one.
Boot into recovery mode. To do this, shut off your tablet and then press the power and volume up button at the same time. When you see the Samsung logo, let go of the power button only. When you see the next graphic with the android you can let go of the volume button. You should be in recovery mode now.
Use your volume up/down button to highlight 'apply update from external storage' Press power to select
Use your volume up/down button to highlight cwm.zip and press the power button to select it
** When cwm appears DO NOT use the volume +/- buttons anymore. Instead use the touch screen to do the rest of the procedure
In CWM use your finger to choose 'install zip from sd card'
Now, (not sure why) use your finger to tap 'choose zip from internal sd card'
Use your finger to scroll down until you see the root.zip file that you copied to your sd card and tap it
From here, you're good to go. I have no idea why I had to choose the option to choose zip from INTERNAL sd card, especially since I didn't do so. But, regardless, this worked for me. I installed Superuser and Titanium Backup without a problem.
I hope this helps you. I am by no means an expert at anything Android, but this site did go a long way with helping me out. I hope I was able to do the same for others.
One thing I did not understand is why, when I was asking for help with rooting my tablet, people suggested I use Mobile Odin. Mobile Odin requires the tablet be rooted to use it, so using Mobile Odin to root isn't possible unless I am misunderstanding something.
Edit: Now I am embarrassed. I just found this, after the fact.
You're almost there!

Sorry, Christiaan, but YES, there on the bottom you will find INTERNAL CARD too.
