FiiO E18 Problem With Spotify - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi people, i just bought a DAC, FiiO E18, and when i skip one song, or just fast forward, it makes a loud af noise, i think its because the phone changes something in the audio when a track is played, like turns on something. Do you know if there's a way to avoid that? i turned off AudioFX and still does the same. Im in stock CyanogenOs13.
Btw, the dac works fine with other sources, its only the oneplus.
Happens only with spotify.
Pls halp ;_;

[Q] Sound quality concern

I've noticed that quality of sound when I connect speakers (3.5mm Jack) is poor.
Music sounds tinny and distorted. If I play the same file using my Nexus S, it sounds crystal clear.
Has anyone else found this or do I have a fault with my unit?
Thanks.
I'm also interested. It could be a deal breaker for me. It would be great if someone could dig up what A/D converter is used in Transformer (but it would probably require taking it apart ). It would be great if USB sound cards worked with Android.
If anyone who has one could run a test it would be much appreciated.
I'll add in my request for some info. Good sound is vital...
Do you get bad sound with headphones as well? Or just with the speakers?

Headphones a well.
I'm more inclined to think it's a fault as it really is awful.
just tested music via spotify. Sound through headphones is fine - pretty decent in fact.
<edit> youtybe vids sound fine also. <edit>
heard reports sound quality is fine, could be a damaged one you have?
You should also try checking if it's possible to put the jack deeper into the slot. The behavior you observed could be caused by bad contact. Also move the jack a little (rotate it) during playing music and check if the sound quality changes - maybe it's a little loose. But then it wouldn't be the same for headphones and speakers, so probably it's not it.
I got my transformer 32 two days ago and it worked perfectly, then today I have gotten my first SoD, and just recently my sound has gotten these same symptoms. Sound from both the speakers and headphone jack is very, VERY tinny and low quality. I thought it was linked to an app I just installed as it was not installed before when it worked fine, but the problem persists post-uninstalation. If anyone finds a fix to this PLEASE SHARE. I'd really rather not have to do an RMA already! :/
UPDATE: Now there is no sound period. I can not get anything to play from the speakers, headphones, OR over bluetooth. fun! *sarcasm*
UPDATE 2: Restart, sound is back, still fuzzy. Possibly a SRS Driver error? Perhaps the 'SRS Surround Sound' is more trouble than it's worth. Anyone know of a default driver that I could try and flash?
UPDATE 3: Sucked it up, backed up my files and did a factory reset. Sound is now back to normal sans the bad app. I'll update if it goes to **** again but let's just get this fixed Asus!
Interesting thread! I'm on day 4.5 and my speakers are tinny, which I'm saying is ok for audio only..yet not music, not even close.
But, a new world with headphone/ear buds and I discovered something interesting that I don't understand after playing around for 2+ hours. Yet now I'm really, really pleased.
My new Monster Turbine ear buds that are really nice on my iPod Touch to enhance give me an tinny sound like quality and are my newest. A 'no go' and I almost thought I had speaker problems.
But, my regular/standard iPod Touch ear buds and my Boise Headphones are really, really nice for sound quality...bass, deep sounds, etc.
I know I don't know enough about ear buds/headphones, but surprised that the ones I thought would work the best...didn't come close.
I do plan to watch them while I still have my 'return period', but super nice audio with the right ear buds/headphone only(s).
Similar issues:
Sound was fine for the first 3 or 4 day, then i started experiencing the same tinny sound, vocals almost seemed slurred audio quality was so bad, however notification sounds seemed fine. This lasted 2 days then magically the sound returned to normal. Again about 3 days later the same poor sound returned, so I searched these forums and someone had posted doing a factory reset which worked, however I do not want to be having to do this each and every time the sound goes fuzzy. Since the .13 update the whole poor sound good sound returning has happend once more....very frustrating
My 3.5mm jack works fine (day 6 for me). Sound quality is better than any other android device I've used. Volume is a little low but otherwise sounds fine.
My sound goes to crap every few days. Crackling, distortion, etc. A reboot always fixes temporarily. Clearly a software problem.
Going to miss the Dolby Mobile sound on the Iconia. While not perfect it was really good. Will see how the TF sound stacks up when it comes in tmrw!

You mentioned a bad app. What app was it?
I've just sound tested my TF the other day, and was quite impressed with the sound quality from the drivers. I did a comparison between my TF and my iPod touch using sennheiser bass driven earbuds. I'm definitely getting more clarity and bass from the TF than I am from the iPod. It sounded amazing. With that said though, I know there's a bug sometimes where I guess the sound driver isn't working properly and my movies start sounding like they're using 8-bit sound output.

Damn! I thought my TF had rubbish sound, and then found this thread, rebooted and sound became magnificent!

boost volume ?

has anyone found a successful way to boost volume ? seems a bit quiet on headphones as well as speakers.
i know my dad bought a cheap mp3 player and there was a software limit to headphones due to EU regulations !? is anyone in the US finding the volume low ?
Ive been using Equalizer app and its pretty good. But since 3.1 I'm getting alot of fc. Also if I am running playerpro I can't enable Equalizer. I need tofc playerpro first and then launch Equalizer in order for it to work. Even with Equalizer the speakers sucks. Hopefully there's a fix soon with the right and left speakers
My volume goes to 11 on my US Transformer. If you turn it all the way up the speakers are distorting so bad I thought they we going to pop. Definitely overdriving them.

lol..... movie buff maybe ?
seriously though my dads mp3 player was limited to a specific volume on UK settings. he changed to US and the volume significantly increased.....
We get all sorts of strange 'directives' from the EU..... including rules on banana curves !
www.itpro.co.uk/615685/rnid-welcomes-eu-mp3-volume-standards
US transformer and the volume was too low with my crappy over the ear headphones, but was louder with a borrowed pair of the standard iphone headphones (in-ear) ... still could have used more volume though. This was while on an airplane so it was a noisy environment.
I am using "audio+ (volume boost)" works wonders
Do any of these apps allow you to change the balance on left/right speaker? I'm looking for something that will let me play a video file with only the left speaker or only the right speaker. Anyone know of anything?

Poor Bluetooth audio quality

I just got the tmobile variant s6 and immediately went to test the Bluetooth audio stream on my 2015 gs350. I noticed a crackle in the audio. It is minimal but quite noticeable at high volume. This is disappointing as my Sony Z3 had excellent BT audio quality on my gs. Anyone else notice this?

I do not seem to have that issue over my car's bluetooth. T-mobile also.
I'm getting good audio quality via my Sony SBH80 aptx BT headset. Perhaps you can play on the Sound Alive equalizer.
Just wanted to let you know that I am having this same problem. When streaming music in high quality from Google Play, the treble is all crackly and distorted. It's really disappointing. I'm going to do some testing today against my old m8 and using non-streaming music. But never had this issue before.
It's probably the fact you are streaming audio. Try some high quality downloaded music, like from Spotify. I've no issues at all.
I am also having the same issue with the Verizon version of the S6. It sounds terrible over my car Bluetooth when streaming but sounds good through my bluetooth Bose headphones. I didn't have any trouble with my car Bluetooth with my iPhone 6. I really hope Samsung gets this sorted out with a software update.
I too am having issues with streaming bluetooth. I think that my issue with it is amplified, because I normally listen to music only on my Magnavox Turntable, and the sound from that console is unbeatable by any electronic streaming or mini-speaker. My son bought me a bluetooth speaker for my birthday last year, which was very nice of him, but the sound just does not compare to the 1970's technology.
Maybe I'm just old.
Do you happen to have any bluetooth le devices, like a fitbit, attached at the same time? I tried disconnecting my garmin vivosmart and there's a dramatic improvement.

Same here. Lowering the treble help a tiny bit but what's music without treble . I've tried disconnecting my pebble watch but no dice. I really don't want to go back to aux.
In my car, before I disconnected the Garmin, I found that adjusting the toggles in Play Music - edging the first dial two toward Treble and the other dial three toward Instrument helped a bit.
I noticed the crackling on treble as well. As evanl81 suggested, I disconnected my Moto 360 (switched it to airplane mode), toggled the phone's bluetooth to have a fresh connection to the car, and the crackling is gone by at least 90%!
Very disappointing. Didn't have this problem with my Nexus 5. I'd very much prefer to not have to disconnect my watch every time I get in the car

That would be a problem. I'm starting to think that we are wirelessly connected to too many things!!
So it looks like my pebble watch was the problem. Seems i can't have other BT devices connected while connected to my car. Once I put my pebble in airplane mode, then off/on the BT radio and all is good! Sucks but at least it's a workaround.
I'm trying to use AutoInput and Tasker to automate the disconnection and reconnection of my watch when connected to the car bluetooth right now, still working out the kinks though. :\ Endless little things and inconsistent behavior.
It would be fantastic if this gets fixed by Samsung at some point!

No, I have a Nexus 4 with 5.0 and now with 5.1 and its connect to LG g watch, a parrot ck3100 and auki bluetooth reciber and the quality is perfect. With S6 I only connected to my LG g watch and auki and the audio quiality is a ****.
i don't know about bad audio quality for bt but i get audio cut outs and choppiness when using my jaybird bluebuds. it gets really annoying. i noticed it happens in wide open spaces too like when i'm outside but not near any walls or enclosed areas. if i'm indoors, it works perfectly fine. i remember reading about the way bt works and the signal needs to bounce off other surfaces or something like that in order to work properly. i had this same issue way back in my OG Droid days and there was a build.prop edit to boost the signal by giving bt higher priority.
anyone else have this problem? i'm on VZW variant btw.
other than this issue, bt audio sounds perfect. i also use Viper to give the audio volume a major boost.
I'm having the same issue on my car audio.
It was perfect with the Nexus 5, very disappointed to have this with the S6.
I just got my sg6 have a samsung gear live and bluebuds x I get crackling sounding high end, very annoying, coming from an HTC one m7 with the same setup and had zero problems, really hope they are able to fix this!
OK so I enabled the tube amp setting and nothing else, it seems to have made a huge difference. I can now listen to music without cringing. Hope this helps.
Ok, I made a few findings about the issue. I also have a moto 360 connected to the S6 and the crackling is so high that is imposible to hear music with a minimum of quality. So i tried with the watch off or in airplane mode and the crackling is still there but sometimes it dissapears after connect and disconnect the bt devices but not always. Now, the elephant in the room:
I have a Samsung Hs3000 bt stereo headset and the music quality is superb even with te moto 360 connected. The magic is that this particular device has aptx codec included. So if you have an aptx bt device the quality its going to be there. For no aptx devices i'm trying an experiment: i remember from the nexus 7 2013 and other android phones that bluetooth audio quality was bad since kitkat and the problem was bluetooth compression was too high. There are two files that control this behaviour: audio.a2dp.default.so and bluetooth.default.so. If we could edit this two files maybe we could fix this. If someone can help me and tell me what program can i use to edit this files on my computer i'll try to fix it myself.

Just wanted to follow up on this thread - I recently switched to the Note 5 (which I love) and also got a Huawei Watch. When the watch is connected to the phone and the phone is connected to bluetooth, the sound quality is really horrendous. So I'm guessing it's something with the BT smart implementation in Samsung phones or something? It's really annoying. I too tried to work out some stuff with AutoInput, but it's a huge pain. The only real workarounds are to put the watch in Airplane Mode or just disconnect through the Android Wear app. And unfortunately there are no shortcuts through AutoWear. Oh well.

Headphones volume

Anyone else is struggling with SUPER LOW headphones volume? Before OP6 I had HTC One M8 which was LITERALLY 3 times louder. I am using SoundMagic E10c(cable, jack) and I am wondering if similiar problem exists for BT headphones. Need some way to have music with decent volume, since I am listening to music basically all the time.
Any way to fix this?
That's true. I hope that there will be a Sound mod in the future

The same problem doesn't exists in case of BT headphones for sure... Its just bad with wired one's, really underwhelming! Waiting for some good audio mod to maybe help fix that issue if possible.

My earphone volume is fine. Using non standard music player/ equaliser and good bearphones
I don't know why people say it's quiet on headphones I've 3.5 jack. I use bullets V2 from OnePlus and the volume and quality are fine.

I haven't noticed a difference in the sound over my LG HBS850 (Bluetooth), and I haven't tried my 3.5mm cable headphones yet.
I have OP6. After reading the complaints here checked with different brands of earphones. The sound is really loud and clear. Even at medium levels I have sufficient loudness. Equalizer too works well. I checked the earphone audio in Player Pro music player, Saavan streaming music and YouTube. I am very much happy with what I hear in terms of loudness and fidelity. I don't think the mentioned complaint is true universally.

I experienced the volume loss as well. When using the phone in my car I have to adjust the radio by almost 10 ticks (from volume 18-20 to up to 30 now).
Yesterday in my car with the oneplus 3 no problems, but the 6 has some very low volume settings. It's kinda frustrating at this point, the volume sucks and the quality doesn't match up to what the oneplus 3 could produce. I think it has something to do with the equalizer that oneplus 6 now offers. This morning while trying to adjust the settings I've downloaded the snapdragon equalizer on top of the baked in equalizer and that seems to kinda do the trick (boosts the volume by a bit).
Oh boy, same here. Using a pair of M50x's, they don't need much power to get going but I've noticed it's not as loud as my 3. I have a fiio K1 amp but didn't work on the 3, figured it might! work on the 6 but nope! so I guess I'm stuck using a amp with the headphone jack.
Oneplus really needs to improve their audio output power, that's for sure.
So I just noticed something. Music is actually fine and loud ONLY when i am choosing ringtone. Spotify/Google Play/VLC etc. all is silent, even after installing Viper4Android it's still to silent.
I agree, the volume of the headphone jack is very low and the overall sound quality is bad. My HTC one A9 is brilliant when using audio files from the jack. It's loud and clean but the OP6 is too low and very bad sounding. Not for audiophiles. I tried with Viper and it's the same.
I felt low volume intially , but after 5.1.8 update I think the volume is good. (May be its just my feel ?)
I tried with ATH M50x and samsung stock earphone.
With the filo e7K the sound quality is good enough ...

I have cheapo ear buds with 16 ohm impedance, just like yours. Anything above 80% volume is uncomfortably loud. Perhaps your unit is defective?
chiming in, no issue here, brand new, white OP6... I'm smitten
for me volume too low even with viper4android
Massively loud with black player, amp and good bass earphones, even the speaker is much louder than my HTC 10
Give ElementalX kernel a try, I've flashed it and boosted my amp output. It helps! with viper4android I don't really need an external amp anymore. But.. it's still better

Same here until i have changed the headphones value (Rx1 and Rx2 mix digital volume) on the "mixer path tavil.xml" file located here : Root/vendor/etc
90 is perfect and you will see a huge difference ! Try and let me know. If you prefere i Can also send you my customised file ?
Don't what y'all talking about, the sound over the headphone jack is so loud to the point I set it only at 60-70%... And the quality is great too, Had a nexus 6p and LG G5 before this one.. but i tried a lot of phones
This one is really loud with great quality overall

Apple AirPod Pro earbuds with OP6

Using AirPod Pros with the OP6 has, at least in my case, been frustrating because of very low volume. Indoors, it's OK, but when I'm outside, it's a struggle to hear what I'm listening to at times. ElementalX kernel allows me to boost volume for the speaker and a plugin earphone, but it doesn't do anything for Bluetooth. V4A helps a little, but not enough, even with playback gain control and the equalizer jacked up.
One solution is to go back to my corded earphones. The above items work great there.
Any ideas for increasing volume with bluetooth earbuds?
