As the title states, since unlocking my bootloader I've been having 2 issues The 1st was that the soft keys quit working. They were completely unresponsive. I solved this by resetting the phone to a backup I made in TWRP after i unlocked the phone. The 2nd is a little more persistent. the 4G icon is now Grey. It used to only Blue I had never seen it Grey. It will have 3 bars but still Grey. Also last night at home and I've only seen this once. While on wifi and with a full signal. The wifi icon was Grey. I remember my DX2 had this issue but I don't remember what the fix was.
Any ideas ??? Thanks in advance
I've also just noticed that all of my emails sent though gmail aren't being sent ?
I had a similar problem with two RAZR Ms after unlocking those bootleggers and rolling back firmware with rsd. Was not able fix before phones got replaced. They went gray and did not have data other then WiFi.
1080xt 4.4
The gray data icon isn't a problem, it's just stock Android. The Verizon ROMs had the blue data icons left over from JB.
The icons were gray but turned blue when connected to Google services.
I think there's an Xposed module that will let you theme the icons any way you want them.

Hey Chavalier
Thanks for your reply.
I can do that but is there any alternate solution available to avoid formatting my device?
Same Issue
I'm not sure what carrier that you are with or if that even has anything to do with it. But I am with T-Mobile and I initially received the update a couple of weeks ago and right after my phone updated I noticed that my messages would no longer appear on the edge screen. Everything else worked just fine except for that. I called T-Mobile and they had me do a factory reset (which always sucks). After the reset the phone worked just fine for a couple of hours then went right back to experiencing the same issue. I called in again and this time they suggested sending me another phone because it sounded like a hardware issue and she also told me that no one else in her department with the same phone had any issues with their phone after the update (how true that was or if she really even asked anyone I don't know). So I called back in yesterday and the guy suggested that I do not install the update and just bypass it (I didn't like that idea at all but I figured I would give it a try). So now the update updates on it's own and I can't even bypass it. So after a new phone, 5 factory resets and plenty of frustration I still can't receive my notifications on my edge screen.
Please someone help!!

"Hi guys. First of all, i registered specifically to tell you of this solution. It's a very frustrating problem, im not sure if it's a bug too...
Ive tried factory reset, clearing cache (all three times, though it's probably a bit useless considering I'm not rooted/flashing custom roms).
As most people realize, this works until you restart the phone or randomly in the middle of the night as the phone goes into deep sleep mode.
I've tried disabling, enabling apps to no avail.
This is the solution my friends...
Go to settings->sounds and notifications -> notifications on lock screen change to show contents.
You may need to restart the phone.
And notification is back.
Im not sure why this is the case (i have fingerprint lock enabled), but i think this is done for privacy purposes. It will be silly if you had notification hidden then it comes up on the edge screen. So when you have notification hidden, the bug is probably that ALL notification is hidden.
Let me know if this works for all of you!"
It worked for me! Hopefully it works for you too! The only drawback is now everyone can see your messages on your lock screen. But at least it's back (sort of).

Hi
I am still facing a small issue with the phonebook as if I am scrolling through the contacts for quite sometime, the screen refreshes suddenly and take me to the Homescreen. Other that this no issues at all.
Since updating my Edge 915S ota to 5.1.1 I don't get LTE connection anymore, it only shows 3g.
Can you please advise how I can get LTE/4G back?
Many thanks.

Well,
1. Factory reset
2. Flash via odin
LP is awful, i would stay on kitkat.
just received an update today for my verizon note 5. so far ive only noticed a change in the gallery app. thoughts??? are you going to update?
Honestly I don't like the newer gallery.
I never use the built-in gallery unless it's to interact with just taken pictures before using another app to organize them competently.
Is that the only change besides a newer security patch? The update isn't out yet for the Verizon Software Upgrade Assistant app yet, which is the only way an MVNO user can get these incremental security updates.
I've noticed the wallpapers have been changed, disabling theme store and theme setting does not keep paid/trial themes set, I also noticed a Google option in the settings menu, but it could have been there for awhile, and animations seem smoother for me
Looks like the update is finally available on the Software Upgrade Assistant application. Will update and report back anything I can add to this discussion.
EDIT: Installing the update now, will be doing a factory reset and fresh install to eliminate any issues since I use PackageDisabler Pro.
EDIT 2: Can't really find any differences besides maybe the gallery, which I wasn't all that familiar with initially anyways. Phone seems the same animations/speed wise. Security patch is at August 1. Still has the same bouts of random lag with Chrome tab-switching, and long pressing the home screen and apps in the app drawer can bring visual choppiness to the UI still. Phone does seem to run better without disabling any apps though, CPU usage seems light with the bloatware that is installed from the get-go.
EDIT 3: Battery life is definitely improved. Have 2.5 hours SOT with 1.5 of that Star Wars Heroes and just now hit 50%.
Updated yesterday, been running about 26 hours! Animations are noticeably smoother! Battery life seems better also!
Unplugged the phone at midnight when fully charged, looked at 4am, 99%. Very nice, used to lose roughly 1% an hour.
Any official release notes mention improvements to standby battery drain on this update?
Anyone having issues making and receiving calls or sending messages after the update.... not sure what's up but after taking the update my phone function will randomly not work and then sometimes will. Very frustrating...

Haven't run into any of those issues, maybe a clean install would help if you haven't already wiped system cache or the Phone/Messaging app cache.

Yes. Have had this problem on both of out Note 5 phones.

Is it safe it update
The reason why I say this is because I'm so concern about the battery life on my phone. The main question is: Does this update improve the battery life or does it make the the battery life worse ??
I get better battery life on the new update, but if you do decide to update, I would recommend doing a factory reset after taking it. That or flash if with ODIN. I would bet that most of the niggling issues people are having are upgrade related. Also if you do anything involving debloating/package disabling outside of the disable function built into TouchWiz/Android do a fresh install.
The update removed by Amazon Music app and when I try to re-install it in the Play Store I get a "Can't Install" error... Anyone else encounter this?

Found my own answer. The instructions in this link to enable Audible, update, and then install Amazon music, worked!
Am I stupid, or did the battery percentage in the status bar disappear?

I'm stupid. I forgot there's an option in the battery settings. Maybe I knocked it if no one else had it go away with the update.
Hello,
I have just updated today to new version of firmware.
After the update all I can see when the phone restarts is "System UI has stopped".
Only other thing that works properly is always on display and partly edge screen.
The phone works only if I set dpi to over 390, under 390 it is always displaying that System UI has stopped and I can see only black screen.
Does anyone have any idea how can I fix this issue so I can set my DPI back to more useable value?
I already disabled the extra dot in the nav bar in settings. I am not sure what else is new and may be causing that.
Also problem with system ui has stopped
I get the problem when i go landscape in any app. System ui has stopped.....
Happens after software update that i got a few days ago...

That same update broke my mobile data.
Factory reset didnt fix it for me but if i were you id try that first.
Short of that (and what I did) was flash the previous firmware version in odin to fix it..
Im going to try and flash the new update in odin to see if it messed up my phone again as sometimes OTAs can cause issues.

Got to the app uninstall updates and clear cache
Did you have the SystemUI Tuner installed? I have/had it installed, and now anytime in landscape it crashes. Still having the issue, and done everything short of a factory reset.
---------- Post added at 04:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:34 PM ----------
Try this: going into Settings -> Display -> Navigation bar and just change the Button layout. It worked in my case, or at least so far.
I enabled the top option for the navbar that gives you the option to hide it and it seems to have fixed it for me.
Edit: Between this and switching the button positions the problem has gone away completely no matter what settings I use.
Had it installed, had to factory reset. sucks.

Same exact thing happening here on my Note8 but how did you get to any settings with a black screen? I'm stuck with only AOD and edge screen working. T-mobile OTA update killed my phone! pretty pissed.
P.S. My signature needs to be changed now that I have a stock T-mobile Note8

How did you uninstall substratum (and it's addons)? The same thing has happened to my Note 8, but I can't uninstall anything because of the black screen and system ui error. By the way, thank you for posting that substratum was causing your issue. Without that knowledge I would still be scratching my head.

Seeing as how @oldkingclue has a total of 2 posts, they're probably not coming back. However, you, @superhero7, have been around for a while and can maybe help. Did you figure out how to solve this issue? There are many people affected by this same error. I also have substratum installed, so it's likely causing my issue. The problem is that I can't find how to uninstall it because of the black screen. Any suggestions, besides factory reset? C'mon....be our "superhero" and bail us out! :fingers-crossed:

How were you able to change the DPI?
I had gotten a phone call from my boss but was driving so I didn't answer. I never saw a voicemail notification so I figured it wasn't important. I got to work the next day and she asked if I had listened to the voicemail. I said no because I never got a notification that she left one. So I opened up my phone and it turns out I had 9 voicemails dating back to mid September. Just had my wife call me and leave me a voicemail. Never got a notification. Opened my voicemail, and there was her message.
Has anybody else had this issue?
I've recently had the same issue. The notification always used to show but since around September my voicemail notification no longer appears. I'm unsure whether this coincides with the update to android 8.0 though.
I am having the issue as well, but I have it isolated to a third party dialer I use. If I unistall it, the missed call and voicemail icons work fine.
I had previously set the downloaded dialer to leave notifications alone but for some reason it stops the voicmail icon.
