Wide Angle shots vs Action Camera??? - T-Mobile LG G5 Questions & Answers

I have the G4 but am considering the G5 based on the wide angle shots and vids. I use an action camera to video some races by hand. Is it just as good?

HDR app

Hello,
is there any good app for HDR photos for the Galaxy Tab?
Thanks
I use Camera 360. Its a little buggy and does not scale to full screen. But it takes wonderful Tilt and Shift pictures and reasonable HDR shots (strong or light HDR effects)
Vignette takes great hdr shots its my fav cam app so far

If the resolution of 4096x3072 (12.6 megapixels) is not just interpolated from for instance 4000x3000, then the HTC Ultra is currently the phone that uses the largest camera sensor area: 30.2 mm^2 . That's nearly a 1/2" sensor (30.7 mm^2). Samples from the Pixel only have a resolution of 4048x3036 (12.3 megapixels), therefore the Pixel uses a slightly smaller sensor area of 29.5 mm^2
The HTC U Ultra is currently also the phone with the largest full frame equivalent aperture: Approximately f/10. In theory it has a Galaxy S8 equivalent aperture of f/1.6 and an Iphone 7 equivalent aperture of f/1.4 , so in theory the HTC U Ultra's raw files should have the best low light performance.
All Untouched. Frog and flower shots were cropped.
Digital Zoom
A few more taken today, all untouched - HDR Auto
A few more. Really love the color and exposure, all untouched.
Camera is great ?
Or what ?
Just wanna try it over my mate 9
Worth to try?
Love mine.

Best photo resolution

Hi everyone!
Which resolution do you use, 12 mpx or 20 mpx? 12mpx gives you hybrid zoom x2 but phone only uses rgb lens, while 20mpx supposedly uses both lenses to create a hybrid colour/b&w pic. So which do you use? I have it on 12mpx in order to use zoom but don't really know which is best.
Cheers!
It actually depends on your preference and the situation you want to create in the photo. I use the 20mp when shooting wide angle landscapes, while im using the 12mp when shooting portraits or closeups

Thanks for replying! I've actually found that shooting a normal close up pic on 12mpx shoots in kind of a wide-angle effect. Last friday celebrating carnival at school, I was able to fit in a whole class of 28 kids from a few feet away. If u look at the pic, it looks like it has been shot on a wide-angle lens!
Any more opinions on camera config are more than welcome!
I don't believe that the 20MPx option uses both cameras. When you partially cover the B&W sensor, there is no noticable effect on the photo. Looks like it is only software based up-scaling and may get you jagged edges sometimes. After some testing with 20MPx and then 20MPx resized to 12MPx just for comparison, I prefer the 12MPx default setting.

Hi Marian, thanks for your reply!
So on a phone with a dual camera, what would be the purpose of the dual lens?? If one is rgb and the other monocrome, don't they both work together to provide depth information and zoom? Or do all colour pics use just the one rgb lens and the other is exclusively for b&w pics?? Seems a little pointless to me...
You are totally right about the sw upscale to 20mp as any other camera app only detects a maximum resolution of 12 mp, but it seems strange to me that even on 12mp colour pictutes, the phone wouldn't use both lens (depth and zoom) because the inferior P20 Lite precisely doess that on all the reviews I read about it (I've always thought that was the point of all dual-lens cameras).
Cheers!
The B&W sensor should provide depth information. You can try different camera modes and cover the B&W sensor. The phone says "Please do not cover the lenses." in some camera modes. But if you don't put finger too close, nothing happens. I can't tell it does anything at all to the image quality which seems strange. Did they made some mistake in latest build? It only does have some effect on aperture mode when you can see heat haze effect on display. It sucks we don't have more options like jpg quality or sliders for post-process filters.

Recording Video from 5x Lens

Has anyone noticed that when you're shooting videos in the 5x mode you're not actually recording video from the 5x lens. You're recording from the 2x lens digitally zoomed in.
You can test this for yourself by putting your finger over the top lens while recording at 5x and see for yourself
Another fun fact for anyone who didn't know is the 5x lens is actually a 3.7x optical zoom. So if you want the very best quality photo you should pinch the cam to 3.7x as beyond that is digital
I'm using software 11.0.9 Global

I thought you can actually record video from 3.7x lens.
And fact that its "just" 3.7 is well known.
But very surprised about video recording. Real shame, wonder what it would look like.
That is true for the stock cam app. But if you install the opencamera app that is on this forum adapted to the mi note 10 you can use rhe 5x camera for recording video, as well as manual controls for focus and exposure, it works really well

Yeah, this Open Camera for Mi Note 10 helps a lot. But wonder, if anyone got it working in video mode using Gcam?

Camera question

Hi guys,
So, we have a number of options when taking pictures and recording videos.
I want to know your opinion on which one is better.
1. Photos: So in 108mpx camera mode we do not have any ultra wide angle or optical zoom. Is it worth using that camera at all or just use standard 12mpx camera that has both optical zoom and ultra wide? Did you notice and difference in picture quality?
2. Videos: In 60FPS mode we only have digital zoom whilst in 30FPS (both uhd and full hd) we do have optical zoom and ultra wide. Does it mean that 60FPS video is made by 108mpx camera and all other modes are made by the other camera? Which one is better?
3. How come telephoto and ultrawide can work together but 108mpx cannot? What's the point of 108mpx if we can't use all extra perks?
Thx.
I came here to post the same question, I've just switched from an iPhone and the choices overwhelm me.
Would be great to here what people think the best settings are. I had made the assumption that 108mp = better but then as OP mentions that takes away ultra wide capability.
Depends what -you- want.
You need to learn about the technologies, formats and so on to make the right choices.
One size doesn't fit all... no real short cuts to knowledge.
Plenty of info but it's spread across different websites and involves multiple disciplines.
Welcome to the immersive world of digital photography...
I'd suggest searching for advanced camera settings on the Note 20 ultra on YouTube.
There are some good videos on the featured and which setting to use in certain circumstances.
