Can I flash a custom rom from at&t or other compagny on a canadian s6 (g920w) - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Topic says it all!! If yes from wich one?

Anyone?

I assume you are talking about SM-G920W8?
If so, then that depends if you are on android 5.1.1 or 6.0.1. for 5.1.1 there are several options, here for example.
If you are running 6.0.1 i'm not sure, but i don't think there's anything out for you yet.
If the rom supports W8, it's written in the ROM, so to answer your question: No, if a custom rom states it supports only SM-G920F and SM-G920I for example, you can't flash that on your device.

Flashing D6603 5.1.1 on D6616

Why can't we flash the D6603 pre-rooted XZDR 5.1.1 Rom on a rooted/recovery D6616? I thought the only thing stopping us before was that we did not have root or a custom recovery on the 6616, so we could not do it without losing DRM keys. Has that changed or not?
Because bricking your phone isn't fun
Right, I understand that there are risks involved. What I am trying to understand is what in particular creates those risks. Could you explain a little further why flashing a D6603 zip would brick the D6616?
I am curious about this as well.
I just recently got my Z3, which I had to unlock since I use AT&T. I now want to root and put 5.1 on it, but it seems like the T-Mobile one is so locked down. As far as I know about DRM keys I don't really care about them since I am not planning on using any Sony software (except maybe the camera software) If I could just put 5.1 on it, with a camera app that shoots RAW I would be happy.
What version do you have? We have root for the D6616 but that won't help us get 5.1 from what I can see. Best bet is to get the D6603 if that is what is most important to you.

I have the D6616.... I guess I don't care so much about 5.1 as I do getting the best battery life possible. But it looks like custom roms are not available since the boatloader is locked?

That's correct - we're limited to modifications of stock. But that makes me wonder why 5.1.1 wouldn't work.

I've been looking for a 5.1.1 for the D6616..... Prerooted.... No one has this yet? I am on 4.4.4 stock rooted ROM, and I have a flashable 5.0.1, but I see no reason to not want 5.1.1, so why do you say root on 5.1.1 isn't doable?

It's not root that's not doable. There exist 5.1.1 prerooted zips for D6603. The issue is that 5.1.1 for the D6616 has not been released yet, hence it has not not been rooted.

Flash a G930F Rom on a G930K SGS7?

Hello everybody,
I'm looking for the answer of my question but I still didn't find it. I live in Hong Kong and I bought a SGS7 from Korea, the model is SM-G930K. The phone is unlocked but there are bloatwares from the carrier and I can't remove the sound of the camera on this model.
That's why I was wondering if I could use an international rom like from the SM-G930F? I wanted to try but I'm afraid of bricking the phone. The SM-G930K from Korea is also a Exynios version, so I really hope I can flash it with an international rom.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, I made a mistake! How move the topic to the questions and answers section?
G930K user here, too. Yes you can, but directly flashing G930F firmware through odin is not possible due to difference in partition sizes. Still, you can flash custom ROMs which can be installed through TWRP(e.g. Superman ROM).

But custom ROMs have to mention G930K or not? Or just a classic custom ROMs from G930F is ok?
I remember, a long time ago, may be before Android, I edited the ROM just with an hexadecimal app, and I could change the model and some stuff. We can't do something like this neither?

Just flash G930F ROMs, it doesn't matter whether G930K support is mentioned or not. No need to edit anything.

Isn't it what the re-partition option for?
Sorry to bump an old thread, but that't the clearest discussion I've found so far regarding flashing on the K variant.
I'm asking this for the S7E though (G935K > G935F) and everyone on the other forum says that it is just impossible to do anything on the K version ( which seems weird to me since the hardware is exactly the same and root/TWRP work fine).

I made a research during few weeks about that, and it's still not clear. I have also read that the modem is faster than the classic S7. But I have not found a loud and clear answer.
Until someone try to flash a G930F rom on a G930F phone, we won't know.

I know this is an old thread but does someone know the answer whether it is fine to flash a g930f rom to a G930k variant?

Hi. Apparently you cannot. If you want another rom, you have to install an alternative recovery, root your phone, and install a custom rom.
Anyone found clear answer?

Hi. No you cannot. Check my previous message, the only way is to install custom rom.
Those devices have same hardware. But the partition sizes are different. If you want to know, just flash custom recovery (TWRP) to your korean S7 and flash LineageOS or RR. Because all of them suggested our devices as well like this: (G930 F|W8|K|L|S). It will fail when you try to flash it by recovery. Because Galaxy S7's Korean variant's partition sizes are different from international and canadian S7s. There was one guide to flash AOSP ROMs to Korean S7's. There will be guide to resize of partitions on ROM's installation. But all commands are needs Linux Based OS, but not Android. I was tried it by Termux on my Galaxy S7. ext2simg command was still not available on Android's terminal . Others was available... so sad. And python codes are so simple to run. One day I will try it on Linux Based OS'd PC.

Not fine. But our devices have same hardware (F = W8 = K = L = S). Only the partition sizes are different. You just need to flash custom recovery (TWRP) then choose custom rom what you want for your S7. I'm suggesting SuperMan ROM and BatMan ROM. They are so stable, and clean. BatMan ROM was not fully stable on my G930K. Then I tried SuperMan ROM's clean, stock installation method on AROMA. It was really clean and Stable on my G930K. Try it bro :fingers-crossed: all of them TouchWiz interfaced. If you want try AOSP, you need to resize your partition sizes by this guide.
Is it possible that I install twrp to install smg930fd firmware in my smg930s Samsung s7 and uninstall twrp after doing this ?

SM-S906L S6 Tracfone variant............can anything beyond 5.02 be flashed ?

There seems to be no compatible Odin-flashable firmwares or custom roms beyond 5.02 Lollipop for this SM-S906L Tracphone variant or at least talked about.
Someone mentioned the stock SM-G920R6 TAR,MD5 MARSHMALLOW can be flashed with some tweaking but no confirmation at all.
Does anyone know what exactly can be flashed on this thing beyond 5.02 with confirmation?
did u every find it

Question about the nougat update.

Hey guys hope you are having a good day, I read online that some variants of galaxy s7 won't receive the nougat update, is that true ? Or did all the variants receive it ?
Thank you in advance.
After reading too myself, It was found to be a bug. If that is indeed the case, there is no reason to worry as you can easily use ODIN to flash the latest version of Nougat.

Thank you that's reassuring, so I won't have to worry no matter what variant I get ?
Yup, don't worry, the cases you have been reading are isolated cases.
