how do i identify which model Xperia M2 - Sony Xperia M2

I have been given a hand me down Xperia M2 and I used the Companion app to update the ROM. During this process, I noticed that there were quite a few different model Xperia M2. I selected the D2303 but I have no way to tell which model I actually have.
Is there a way to tell? The phone seem sot be functioning. There are no descriptions on the outside of the phone to tell me which model this is and I have no way of opening this (is this right) to see if there are anything written on the inside.

does that report the correct model even after applying the wrong rom? I am uncertain if the different model ROMs work with minor issues or not

The model name is attached to a ROM, so unfortunately no
I don't know how to make the M2 display the correct model name as I never had an M2 phone
Maybe Flashtool displays the correct model name

It won't. Open the SIM Tray and, with your nail, try to open the badges below the SD Card slot. They'll tell you what model it is.

Thanks Kizoky for trying. Linuxct has the exact instructions I was after.

[FIRMWARE] UK Generic C2105_15.0.A.2.17

I just made a ftf file for Xperia L C2105 Version 15.0.A.2.17 UK.
It is 100 % STOCK with no changes or anything.
It will run on c2104 but you will have to skip baseband.
You may skip UNKNOWN in flashtool as well!
Flash via FLASHTOOL

I want the UK one for c1204
And changing it to the UK version, I'd still be able to use my Sim card right?
And is it safe? Cause I've partially rooted my phone

Quote me next time as it is easier for me to know someone asked for an answer!
Well, in theory it should work fine as the phone has everything same except the basebands. So in flashtool, untick baseband and flash. It would surely work. I have tested different basebands on Xperia U and P and they both worked fine as long as I unticked baseband in flashtool.
This is unlocked version and thus you can flash it without any sim restrictions. (Its sim free and not under any contract)
You would be unrooted after flashing this. It is safe!

I took this firmware out of my phone which is from the UK. UK uses different basebands from USA. You can not get a C2104 that will be supported by UK. However, you may flash UK firmware on your C2104 but you will need to skip baseband in FLASHTOOL
I extracted the ftf and checked the build.prop and for some reason the region is shown as US. I suppose it is better than my factory one which was from Ukraine.

Modify Oem.sin

is any workaround to modify oem.sin? i just want to add my operator VoLTE settings. Thanks
Did you ever figure this one out?
Its impossible to edit a .sin file and flash it using flashtool.
You have to do it via a custom ROM, hence a rooted device is needed

hmm,, I do not know, you can try it. Just swap the necessary .sin files using flashtool and try to flash it. there are 3 outcomes.
1. it will work (Great)
2. It will not flash (No problem)
3. It soft brick s your phone, so just flash a .ftf to restore your phone.
It works to flash oem.sin from other regions firmware with no problems , my problem is that my operator just released VoLTE and VoWIFI and Sony didnt add the settings in their firmware and the only way to do it is if i root the phone or if i could edit OEM.SIN before flashing (but seems thats not possible). My operator doesnt sell any Sony phones so probably will take a long time till my operator will contact them to add the settings in the firmware or maybe not at all or maybe only for latest devices or for the future models (i cant know that). Sony does have the VoLTE settings in like all EU firmwares and VoLTE + VoWIFI in specific operator firmware but only for Orange in my country and im using some other operator.
Edit:// just get the firmware that has your operator settings then flash only the oem.sin from it with flashtool , i did that with mine and i had no problems.

I have a problem in that my phone was never released by my operator! Do you think it'd be possible to get an OEM.sin from another phone altogether? They have released both the XZ Premium and Z5 Premium (I have the X performance). Alternatively I think if I edit the modem.conf I might have a way to get VoLTE too

this is experimental try replacing firmware folder with elabel-Gxxxx-india-row_xxxxxxxxx_41.3.A.2.XX_S1-ELABEL-LIVE-DE8D-PID1-0004-MMC.sin and also you need to manually extract update.xml from indian firmware.... if it is set to unpack automatically in xperia firm it will be replaced by update.xml from the big file that size 2.6GB , you need update.xml from the indian firmware placed inside 46MB file
FYI without unpacking there will be like 3 files
one size 2.6 , other two size 46mb and 1.2mb
we need update xml from 46mb file and sin from 1.2 mb also dont forget to remove elabel-Gxxxx-yourcountry-row_xxxxxxxxx_41.3.A.2.XX_S1-ELABEL-LIVE-DE8D-PID1-0004-MMC.sin

I have edited the relevant files on my device. Is there any way to force the phone to pick up the new oem settings? Will it require a format (reset to get it to work)?

Unfortunately, Odin will not let you cross-flash bootloaders or ROMs. Cross-flashing may even brick the phone.
I recommend returning the phone as soon as possible.

I will do that .. it's my only option
I searched and it seems to me that they were installing a custom rom !
becouse I did install a custom rom and it worked fine before flashing the phone with the SM-G930K
so I will install this one :

Good luck. Please report back with your results.
Thanks.
- Update -
I just installed TWRP for SM-G930F :
twrp-3.2.3-0-herolte
and then I add the the custom rom :
SuperMan-Rom SM-G930F V3.0.1_O_Final
and now everything is working fine even the sound and duel sim is working too
if we recap on this phone on the back of the phone it said SM-G930FD
and in Samsung download mode is said : SM-G930K
and on the operation system I am using a custom rom that said SM-G930K
by the way I am stuck with the TWRP can I flash back only the stock bootloader ?

You can but changing only the bootloader may cause problems with the installed ROM.
You should only install bootloaders that are meant for the phone model number that is shown on the download screen. Never try to downgrade the bootloader to an earlier version because this may cause additional problems that include bricking the phone.

So I was right thinking that it is used device, and I presume that the previous owner changed its CUST. It is so called "rebranded device".
First you have to find out the original region (or CUST) of you device.
Type *#*#2846579#*#*, then 3, then line 4. You`ll see something like "hw/eu". The "eu" (or some other letters) will show your real region (CUST).
Then you can just flash (dload) the FW for that region, find the suitable FW here. Then the device will start to update itself.

The alternative way is to flash the original CUST for your region, you can choose which way is easier for you - 1) to dload the original FW or 2) to flash the original CUST. I think the (1) is easier. Besides, I`m afraid, the (2) is impossible, because the device is rebranded, you can`t flash anything with HiSuteProxy, because it will finish with "Connection to Authentication Bridge Failed, Process Aborted"
P.S. possibly, the previous owner rebranded the device, then couldn`t fix the situation and got rid of it. But there is absolutely no problem. Just dload the original FW, that`s all!
Here is a similar situatiion. I hope your case is the same.

eea is equal to C431.
Formally, your region is correct, it is original. I don`t know, may be the previous owner has changed the CUST a multiple times.
Anyway, my choice is to dload the original FW. It will reset all data on your device, so better to make a backup. The original FW you can find here (or may be you can try to ask the author of the thread SilviuO to help you to find the suitable FW for dload)

Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Verizon Dual Sim

Hello Folks,
I bought a 1 week old Verizon Note 20 Ultra and discovered it wasn't dual sim even though the box has 2 IMEI's listed.
The sim tray also only has space for 1 sim card.
Does Verizon disable the second IMEI and if not, can I flash the phone to with a rom from another region to enable the dual sim which IS very important to me.
Welcome to the party man, Unless Sammy unlocks esim at some point, you are SOL. No US model supports dual sim.

Not happening.
SM-N986U and U1 devices have two IMEI for "future" eSIM functionality, but currently have the feature disabled in the modem (firmware) and in the carrier CSC config. Even if you were able to enable it on the modem side, the moment you drop your Verizon SIM card in, their CSC feature set will lock you out of any eSIM functions.

All 986U/U1 devices have two IMEI numbers. Showing a snapshot of the box with two IMEI's is nothing new. Mine looks the same. Still doesn't support two physical SIM cards and again... Feb 2020 security update never existed on the Note 20. It was released in August of 2020.
Also, your device serial number doesn't match the serial number on the box.

I believe he's referring to Multi CSC firmware, which all Samsung devices use now. They are multi carrier, not multi device. This is why you cannot flash a 986F/D firmware onto a 986U/U1 device. Different internal hardware, and in some cases, different CPU.
There is no 986U/U1 firmware that has dual SIM card capabilities. The pit error means the pit file is either for the wrong device or was edited and not properly signed before being repackaged.
Even still, you cannot enable a hardware feature when the hardware doesn't exist.
Dual SIM phones have a different physical SIM slot configuration than Single SIM/eSIM devices.
Sure... the trays are the same dimensions, but the contact pads are different.

I unpacked the image file you referenced. The pit file looks like it was pulled from an S20. I could be wrong, but I see references to it.
This is basically a debug custom ROM. Not for a daily driver. Anything you activate will not survive an upgrade.
I'm also pretty sure you cannot link to these ROMs on XDA as they're used for changing IMEI info, and removing FRP locks. Great for people who deal in stolen devices.
Good for devs to get into the software, but still questionable software.

Because it allows you to bypass FRP locks and write new IMEI info. Phone thieves love this.
Again, good for devs, but no end user should ever be running on this as a daily driver.
